Re: Kingdom Hearts 4 Team Provides Dev Update, Shares New Screenshots

roy130390

@JR150 I used to love the series (KH1, KH2, and Chain of Memories) and at some point it became a convoluted mess and the time to wait between entries got too long. This is coming from a massive Metal Gear fan, which is also a long series but, unlike what some people say that usually have little to no experience with it, it has a story that it's easy to understand, just extensive. I can't say the same about KH though... Between the heartless, nobody, unversed, dream eaters, time travel, realms and too many characters is was just too much for me. Not to mention that the drama and intention of getting the player in the feels became annoying and a bit cringe worthy. KH3 also seemed to have flawed gameplay because of the braindead difficulty.

This, of course is just my opinion. There's lots of fans of the series so I'm sure that they'd disagree with me. Personally I enjoyed The World Ends With You much more than I ever did KH and would recommend that one over it. Nomura worked in both franchises, but he wasn't involved in TWEWY's story so maybe that's why I find it so much better.

Re: Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Has Been Rated For Switch 2

roy130390

@yohn777 ? Why would I be waiting for another reply? Usually when people say "let's agree to disagree" it's because they don't plan to engage anymore. Also, calling you self absorbed is in no way proof of me being provoked by what you said. It's just pretty accurate for someone that keeps thinking that his opinion is the "truth" which is the actual insane thing about this conversation. Also, supposedly ending a conversation just to continue days later does give me an impression of you being triggered though.

Another insane thing is using such a flawed argument as "how many games have you programmed"? By your seriously, deeply flawed logic we can't criticize anything unless we are able to replicate the product. And not just games, people can't have opinions about the flavor of a meal, remodelations, a movie, any device or pretty much anything they can't do. It's pretty simple: I have played games all my life, from fighting games to arena fighters and I love the multiplayer aspect of them and unbalanced games simply don't last long and end up dying because of that reason and despite of the evidence supporting that I just state it as my opinion.

No one has to be a game developer to give a valid perspective. What defines the weight of an argument is the logic behind it and out of the two of us, I was the one to explain the reason why behind mine. As I mentioned, it's simply good core game design philosophy and they did try to apply it to a degree but failed by doing the team point system. Simply put: multiplayer games with exploits and unbalanced rosters will get the gameplay experience stale, repetitive and frustrating. That's literally happening with the community right now but what do I know? All you have said to justify yours is that it's an arena fighter so they are unbalanced and developers know better than me because I can't make a game.

You won't have the need to "deescalate conversations" if you do this:

1. Don't say that your opinion is the truth. Handle it as what it is, that means your perspective.

2. Stop trying to invalidate other arguments by calling them different things. It looks like a cheap way to make them lose importance. Besides, chances are, specially if your points are flawed, that the person will point out the irony and they'll do the same thing with yours.

3. Learn to deal with opinions that are different from yours. Again, out of the two of us you were the only one saying I'm wrong and you had the need to adress it to prove that. From my perspective, that looks like you got triggered but you do you. A normal reaction would be just a normal disagreement without assuring anything and just explaining your perspective.

Not trying to be rude but if you feel the need to have the last word and reply to this, by all means do but I'm done and I won't read it simply because there's no point and honestly it's exhausting that you don't see the irony in many things that you say. Telling me to "reflect" while not seeing this is proof enough for me. Consider it a "win", me getting triggered, an excuse or whatever you prefer.

On a positive note, I'm sure that regardless of anything, the game will regain life on Switch 2 for some time. I'll get it again eventually and, while I doubt that it will stay relevant for long for me, I'll finally be able to play it with some friends that are also interested on getting the Switch 2 version.

Re: Talking Point: How Can The Next Animal Crossing Improve Crafting?

roy130390

Those "QOL improvements" have never mattered to me. Animal Crossing is a relaxing game with slow pacing in which repetition is intended but people perceive it as tedious because they want to advance or accomplish things like in the average game. The game is about doing what you feel like, so when something starts feeling tedious, it's better to change activities. Crafting, fishing and all of the activities are done with an intended pace and cycle that is meant to be almost like a time for reflection and peace. I'd bet that if they have delivered those things in an update like many people asked they would have stayed relevant for about a week or less for most despite of being described as game changers.

What I'd like of the best installments is to get more of what we have. Not less functions like some suggest. More villagers on your island or whatever they do, more interactions and dialogue, more activities and more depth to the things like we already have. Things like being able to do caves and tunnels, have more levels and even small mountains, vehicles for transportation and things like that. More space to do things, but always with a process. No bulk crafting, no warp points and not stuff that breaks the immersion of a methodical, relaxing life.

Re: Review: Labyrinth Of The Demon King (Switch) - FromSoft & Horror Vibes Straight Out Of '97

roy130390

@Chlocean As someone with a Dark Souls gif as profile picture... I can kinda understand that and agree with that. The games became so iconic that nowadays a lot of games feel influenced by it or straight up trying to do something very similar and it feels saturated of those type of games. Having said that, if you are interested in this one, it's more similar to the King's Field series, which is the Souls predecessor. I don't consider it a particularly hard game in terms of combat and it relies more on exploration, puzzles and resource management to feel challenging. Combat is actually quite simple but fun. It does have it's learning curve in terms of timing with blocking but that's it. Well, at least for the couple hours that I have played. There's a demo in case that you want to try it.

Re: "It's Very Powerful" - Borderlands 4 Dev Hypes Up The "Perfect" Switch 2

roy130390

@Grumblevolcano I don't think it's odd since they could have started development after all the other versions. They could also be considering that lots of players have more than one console and PC and are expecting that some will double dip so it arriving a bit late works at their favor, or they are simply giving it more attention than other versions as stuff on Switch sells better a lot of the times and on Switch 2 it will be one of the first AAA games available so potential sales are even better.

Re: Double Dragon Gaiden Doubles The Fun With A "Free DLC" Update On Switch

roy130390

@JakedaArbok I agree. The beat' em up genre is one of my favorites and this game is one of the best for me, which says a lot considering that we have plenty of good ones nowadays. The style isn't even "chibi" to me as some people say, it's more akin to the old Kunio games, which is pretty much a sibling franchise to Double Dragon.

It's sad to see people lose their jobs, but I wasn't a fan of Polygon. Personally, while I haven't liked every article, I'm happy with you guys for the most part. I really hope that this site and it's staff don't disappear as it's one of my most frequented. That being said, it's important to see what went wrong with Polygon to prevent that from happening.

I wish you long and prosper careers to all of you.

Re: Elden Ring Has Now Shipped Over 30 Million Copies Ahead Of Switch 2 Launch

roy130390

@Andy_Witmyer Love those 3. BOTW is my favourite Zelda ever and one of my favorite games. I took some time to click with Witcher and Skyrim but they are great once you do. Skyrim offers so much freedom that to this day it's unmatched in that regard. Of all of them Witcher 3 would be my least liked gameplay wise as combat was a bit too simple and repetitive for me, but the world building, characters and story make up for it.

About the comment of Railizah, just to offer another perspective I'd say that you have on both alternatives for paths and exploration and sure, there's more in Elden Ring as it's a bigger game but in both you need to reach certain points for that and while there's some improvement in combat, I'd say that gameplay feels really similar and I don't see that much of a difference between more recent Souls games and previous ones. Some jank might be reduced but they are still essentially the same in core gameplay with more tools which is expected from bigger, newer games. The thing about combat in this series is that once it clicks, it's easily one of the most if not the most enjoyable combat in rpg action games with simple core gameplay but considerable depth for those that want to experiment. It's very similar to the Monster Hunter series in that regard, as a lot of people feel it janky and even counterintuitive at first but once you get used it makes a lot of sense.

Since Elden Ring is considerably harder and it will cost a considerable amount, I'd recommend trying Dark Souls for the time being to see if you feel better about the series. I do agree that you can like ER while disliking previous Souls games but it's a risk that I might just recommend if you still didn't like Dark Souls after playing more but you still have curiosity about ER and when there's a sale, which happens with frequently and significantly with Bandai Namco games. Either way, if I can be of any help feel free to contact me.

Re: Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Has Been Rated For Switch 2

roy130390

@yohn777 Uuuhmm, sure. They can make whatever they want, it doesn't mean that it will be a good product though, specially when a core aspect to make it work is ignored. I don't know what made you think that you touched a nerve... It honestly kinda sounds like something one would try as a desperate measure to invalidate another argument but judging by this last reply I shouldn't expect much of a good explanation so yeah, let's agree to disagree.

Re: Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Has Been Rated For Switch 2

roy130390

@yohn777 To begin with, just as it's your opinion that they are "intended that way", it's mine to say that's a poor excuse to allow mediocre balancing. Only difference is I'm not self absorbed enough to tell you that you are "flat out wrong". After all, it's your perspective and it's as valid as mine. Same about not shutting up, as just as there's people constantly asking for better balancing there's others that just won't shut up about the games being intended that way, even if the player base disappears including them.

I don't know if you checked my comment properly as I actually recommended FighterZ as a better alternative for those exact same reasons, but it seems that you didn't and you should if you expect to have a proper discussion. All I'm gonna say is that balancing is a core aspect of any game, specially one that wants to keep online activity. It doesn't matter the genre, it's not just something from fighting games. If you have a game with a 200+ roster with such a poor balance, it won't matter because 90% of the playerbase will use what are considered viable characters, and those are usually just a few and will make the game feel stale. That amount of repetition will harm it and very likely kill it. You don't have to be hardcore competitive to want somewhat fair chances and this would happen on any genre. It doesn't matter if you play a party game, a racing one or whatever. And that's exactly what's happening right now with Sparking Zero.

So no, I won't shut up about what was an obvious core flaw that it's actually killing the game. If you feel different, that's fine. Personally, I just consider it a poor excuse and I think that anyone who is or was active online and is able of critical thinking without letting bias cloud their judgement can say that it's what happening with the game.

Re: Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Has Been Rated For Switch 2

roy130390

Hardcore Dragon Ball fan but while I do plan getting the game eventually I'll wait for a heavy discount. Arena fighters are unbalanced and lead to a lot of frustration on PVP and the community that defended this game from any legitimate criticism is pretty pissed off right now for the problems that they decided to ignore. It doesn't matter the core material/source, a certain balance in player versus player games is important and there isn't a lot of single player content to distract yourself if you ignore the online component. I recommend FighterZ over this by a long shot. XenoVerse 2 is also a better alternative. This isn't a bad game but it has the same problems that the Tenkaichi series and other arena fighters games had and they were justified because of nostalgia. Now the player activity is very low for a game that sold so well.

Re: Elden Ring Has Now Shipped Over 30 Million Copies Ahead Of Switch 2 Launch

roy130390

@Andy_Witmyer It's very similar. If I may give some advice: the thing about Souls games is that you have to ignore those people saying that they are brutally hard because that gets into your mind. They aren't unfairly challenging like many old games, not even close. I hate those kind of games. Once they actually click, they are pretty fair. Learn to procede in a careful way, try to attract one enemy at a time, to raise shield and dodge, how armor weight influences movement and to consider your stamina. It really is just a matter of developing a bit of patience and not trying to kill everything you see or try to advance in places in which you will get overwhelmed. They are cryptic in some things, so don't feel shame in checking videos and the wiki.

Also, don't play online until you are familiarized with the game.

Dark Souls 1 and Demon's souls (PS3) are the most approachable in the series in my opinion. The others feels harder, with Elden Ring being the hardest in my opinion.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Switch 2 Rating Spotted Online

roy130390

@ottoecamn Here's the thing mate, you just said it yourself: at one point, it was. They are free to change that and take more freedom. Considering how many years people have been whining about the franchise, I say that it's been more than enough time for them to understand that it's going on new directions. Also, the crossbow thing was ridiculous even then because there's lots of things that they took liberty with in those days. And, as far as I know, when they talked about historical settings, they were referring to things like recreating the cities as accurate as possible. Not things like how the story and characters were handled. I don't remember claiming that they are great sources of accurate history either. Also, how about mentioning recent games which are the actual current direction and much more crazier than that? No Greek or Egyptian minister made a fuss about it. It's fiction.

You have no idea about my vague whataboutisms? That's because they are intended to be vague. You don't have to search hard on anime and games from Japan to find examples of what I'm referring too. There's many examples of it. Like making Quetzalcoatl a blonde chick in Fate Grand Order. And, no, I find nothing wrong with that, despite of being latino. Again, it's just fiction. Let's not have double standards, it's as simple as that.

As for the part about Ubisoft pushing the narrative of Yasuke being a real black Samurai... That's because he is. Every source that I find says that. You can claim that people with a certain agenda recently did that but I knew about that character and that specific aspect about him ages ago. And I can't find any evidence saying otherwise. Hell, even Japanese games handle him as black like Guilty Gear Strive and Samurai Warriors 5!

Regardless of what you believe about Yasuke, it's baffling to me that anyone thinks that this game is somehow more insulting to the Japanese than any other form of media that they have handled based on other cultures. Even if Ubisoft claims something as dumb as them being accurate, which again all I know is that they said that Yasuke was in fact black, it's simply a matter of not taking it that seriously.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Switch 2 Rating Spotted Online

roy130390

@ottoecamn Yeah, everybody knows Assassin's Creed is totally about historical accuracy and not about taking liberties with historical characters and fiction. The Japanese are the only "victims" of Assassin's Creed taking creative freedom with their culture right?

Also, the Japanese are definitely so respectful when depicting other cultures and they never ever take any liberties. They'll never offend anyone by doing say... making one of the most famous serial killers in history a champion of humanity. And they would definitely never sexualize a minor in their media in any shape or form. They are also definitely not infamous for misinterpreting black characters and their culture in general. If you wanna learn about other cultures and everything about the world, you should definitely go to the Japanese entertainment industry.

Come on, personally I think that just as Japanese are able to take creative freedom with other cultures, others should be able to do it with theirs. It's fiction. It's simply entertainment. There's a clear double standard recently because anime and other japanese things are very popular around the world. Don't tell me that you wouldn't be defending a japanese game or anime taking said freedom with culture, religion, etc.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Switch 2 Rating Spotted Online

roy130390

@PikminMarioKirby Come on dude, at this point you are grasping at straws and there isn't really anything different from this game that deserves that measure and it's more your personal bias against it. As for Ubisoft being anti consumer or whatever, they don't have the best reputation but it should be up to the consumer to choose to get their games or not. Personally, while they keep on saying controversial, dumb things, I find their games serviceable and they behave pretty much the same way almost every AAA company does. They just have more of a bigmouth.

Re: Opinion: It's Time To Get Rid Of Fall Damage

roy130390

As some have mentioned, it's different on each game. Having said that, I prefer it on most games. You may find it "tedious" to avoid, but that's because of a constant necessity of doing things as fast and easy as possible. Part of the gameplay is being cautious and creative enough to move without causing yourself that and learning to appreciate different types of pacing goes a long way to make gaming more enjoyable in general.

Re: Nintendo Direct: Mario Kart World: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?

roy130390

8. It was good. Not everyone sees the treehouse sessions and this was a good way to expand and at the same time resume the new features of the game. I like that there are hidden costumes and missions and battle mode is still there. The only thing I didn't like is how they handled costumes on the roster as it could have been a submenu accessed when selecting a character.

I'm kinda baffled how angry and miserable people choose to be over almost everything nowadays. I understand the complaints about the new price of games, but it's just not with this. It's with almost every game and everything I see. The world is very crazy right now.
