@Murasaki_Nichirin Literally the first comment from the first JRPG subreddit result when you search about Arise and it's story:

"There is practically no worldbuilding, the characters are pretty one note, villains have no presence and very weak motivations, the pacing of the plot is awful and it's highly cliched and predictable. The soundtrack is mostly generic orchestral background noise and it doesn't even attempt to work with the story at all. There are no recurring melodies or character themes and I think that strongly affects their ability to create an effective story. Plus I think the writing is some of the worst I've seen in a JRPG. Even the skits are pretty weak as they repeat the same conversations over and over. Plus they tend to drag on for over a minute while on average old Tales skits were 30 seconds tops."

Look, I'm not saying that comment is right and they do mention that others enjoy it. It's as simple as understanding that to each their own. As for the "short" story, I'm almost at 30 hours and going through the DLC. I didn't see any "terrible" character dialogues either, just the usual tropes that I see on most JRPGs I played. As with Arise, most people seem to enjoy the story.

As for your logic: gameplay is the main aspect of a game, so if Granblue Fantasy Relink craps all over Arise and other Tales games in that regard, they are pretty much inferior games in general.

Again, I don't think that way. I have played a few Tales games and love them. I'm just showing you how annoying it is to talk to people that think that they know better than anyone else. Personally, even if Arise has the better narrative, I have always chosen gameplay first. Yes, it's a JRPG, but it's also a game and I play them to have fun. I enjoy good stories, but not if they sacrifice gameplay for it. I'm planning to play Arise in the future, but not gonna lie, your approach is kinda dissuading me of doing it.

@Murasaki_Nichirin Putting the obvious aspect that a review is an opinion aside, I'd expect that if someone claims that it's because a game had clearly an overall better reception over another and that's not the case here. Both games were received and pretty even in terms of scores. What's "obvious" to you is just based on your preference, so it's not for anyone else. Arise actually has a lot of criticism, like having enemies that are too spongey and the break system not working well with bosses.AI partners are also considered bad while Granblue ones are pretty efficient.

Hell, you chan check threads of people asking about both games and people are in favor on Granblue.

It's as easy as "to each their own", specially when your supposed better game isn't really more popular in the general consensus.

Re: Review: Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok (Switch 2) - A Deep, Addictive RPG With A So-So Story

roy130390

@-wc- It's more of a hack n' slash with RPG elements to me. While you do have moments of talking with npcs or assigning equipment and skills, it's definitely more focused on combat. Story is serviceable with likeable characters, just nothing exceptional. The gameplay, music and visuals really stand out. Both single player and multiplayer are optional and enjoyable. The demo even lets you try a few different characters so that could be a good option in case it interests you.

Was wondering if you guys would review this. Haven't had this much fun with a game's combat in a long while. I really hope that people don't sleep on this title because it deserves to do great in sales. Best hack n' slash game I have played with a roster of almost 30 characters to play, all with their different play style. Also, I haven't seen the news here but Granblue Fantasy Versus will be released in Switch 2 with crossplay and a roster of like 40 characters.

Re: Rise Of The Tomb Raider At 60fps On Switch 2 Would Have Required "Serious Compromises"

roy130390

@Max_the_German There's no hypocrisy. There's so much to take into account that people don't consider when optimizing games like the engine compatibility with a console, type of game and even dev talent. Just because some devs are fantastic and do miracles it doesn't mean that these are lazy or aren't doing a good job. It's like someone saying that you should be fired because somewhere in the world there's a dude that does things double as fast as you can despite of your best efforts.

Before someone mentions Resident Evil 9, I got that game on release and it had serious dropdowns that many reviewers downplayed or didn't mention. Switch 2 is a more powerful machine, yes. But this game is also graphically demanding.

If that's your standard, that's completely fair. But personally I wouldn't be going with a Switch 2 if I'm expecting 60 fps on every or even most games.

Re: Mini Review: Sonic Frontiers - Definitive Edition (Switch 2) - Fans Deserve Better Than This

roy130390

@BrewsterTea It was generally well received but there was a part of the fandom and reviewers that didn't like it. Combine that with the Switch 2 edition being terrible and it affects it's reception more. This game shouldn't have problems running on this console and if they can't deliver that they shouldn't have done an "upgraded" version then. Not to mention that it's sold at full price instead of being an actual upgrade for Switch 1 owners.

Re: Review: Star Fox (Switch 2) - Stays On The Rails, But Absolutely Hits The Target

roy130390

As someone who's kinda tired of them making the same entry over and over... I feel like some reviewers are underestimating the amount of people that have never played a Star Fox game. Sure, it's kinda annoying to us that played them, but this is an old game and the last remake was on a console that only like 17 people had. Personally, I'm going to try to see past that and enjoy this remake that clearly has a lot of work and passion put on it's development.

Re: "This Is Even Worse" - GTA 6 Code-In-A-Box Reveal Reignites Game-Key Card Debate

roy130390

Nah, for me Game key cards remove the biggest advantage that a digital game has: direct access. Sure, it's only putting the card on to play, but I can't tell how many times I opted to play one of my digital games instead of searching for the physical one. Not to mention that, like physical, just as you can borrow and sell them you can also lose them. It's the worst of both formats in many ways for me.

Re: Two Point Hospital: Full Health Collection "Coming Soon" To Switch 2

roy130390

@Anti-Matter In this case the "appropriate for kids" argument doesn't make sense because both franchises are. You made it clear that it was because you aren't interested in this particular crossover and while that's perfectly understandable, the world doesn't revolve around you so it's a matter of understanding that it's made for others that enjoy it.

When you said: "Not everyone is keen with a certain franchise" you were right, but that applies to all DLC, including the ones you like. You are free to feel negative about this content and comment, but people will question your arguments when they aren't true or well sustained. It does relate more than previous crossovers, it is appropriate for kids and it's simply a matter of you not liking said franchise.

Re: Preview: Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok Feels Right At Home On Switch 2

roy130390

I'm dying to play this. I have waited for so long because I had the feeling that we'd eventually get it on the Switch 2, which wasn't even released at that point. Love hack n' slash games and from what I've seen, this is one of the best. I really hope that people don't ignore it because it deserves to do well.

Edit: the demo is awesome, you can even try a lot of different characters and I think that you can even play online.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Title Update 1.1.11 Out This Week, Includes Switch 2 Handheld Improvements

roy130390

@AussieMcBucket If there's a series S version ( I wasn't aware) then there's definitely a chance for it to come to Switch 2. They might be waiting for reception before committing to do another demanding port. That being said, I'd be cautious about the series S and Switch 2 version if it comes eventually.

As for people always saying that I get it, but this is the first time I said it. It's not that I don't think it possible, it's just that I doubt it's quality considering Shadows. Then again, Shadows is a bigger game so it might be more demanding than Resynced despite of this remake looking great. However if it sacrifices as much as Shadows does on portable mode, I'd personally stick to the PS5 version.

Re: Crazy Taxi: World Tour Officially Announced For Switch 2, Launching 2027

roy130390

@squiddu-real Nope. The whole gaming industry is responsible of carbon emission, data centers (regardless of not using AI), waste, etc.

And that's my best response because well... it makes sense? If you aren't gonna consume games with AI because of that you might as well check all that you are consuming to support your cause as much as possible.

Ok cool?

Re: Crazy Taxi: World Tour Officially Announced For Switch 2, Launching 2027

roy130390

@N00BiSH Not saying that you can't care about those aspects. However, if you really care about all that to the point of boycotting because of the environment then be ready to go against the whole gaming industry.

Hell, if I were you I'd be preparing a lance and a thong because there's just so much from the daily life commodities that involves hurting the environment. I agree that it's a good cause to be concerned about and I'm not exactly sure why you took it personal as I was referring to people just complaining about the use of AI for being, well, AI.

Re: Opinion: Mario Kart World Deserves Its Flowers, So Let's Stop Comparing It To MK8 Deluxe

roy130390

I liked Mk8 Deluxe a lot but yeah, I prefer World. Having more options while driving with tricks has enhanced the gameplay a lot for me. As for the complaints about the open world "not having much", it seems that people mostly refer to things to do and get. Can't say I feel the same as there's plenty for me to do because, even if I have finished most challenges, I play the open world from time to time to practice tracks and tricks. One would think that driving should be the fun part for people. And sure, incentives are nice but the game had enough for me and now the open world is like a much better "training mode". It's nice to be able to appreciate the tracks, practice on different routes and you know, simply drive because that's what I want from a Mario Kart game.

Re: Koei Tecmo Is Bringing Attack On Titan 3 To Switch 2

roy130390

@babybilly It doesn't matter how old something is when it comes to spoilers and people are constantly watching movies and shows and reading books way after they are released. By your logic, when you recommend a friend to watch something it won't matter how much or what of the story you tell if the show/movie is old and that's not the case. If you do that, you would most likely hear a complaint or ruin your friend's interest. We avoid spoilers simply because the surprise element is a big part of enjoying stories and if we'd knew what's coming it would make it considerably less engaging. Even predictable stories, which by the way are usually heavily criticized because of it, still offer engagement as you still have to see to be 100 % sure that what you are expecting will happen. To most people, they are a big deal and with good reason.

There's ways to announce that the whole story is there without showing, like literally saying it.
