@Znake As someone who doesn't have much interest in this game, all I can tell you is that finding a character design unappealing and saying that someone should go back to school is harsh as you are pretty much implying that they didn't learn properly. Things can be uninteresting to a person and still be well done at the same time. Judgding the anatomy of the characters, details, expressions, posing and other aspects it seems like quite a capable artist. As for the "cowboy hat", they aren't only for them.
@somnambulance I wouldn't say that Yoshi games were always this way. Yoshi's island is what I consider the best platformer on the Super Nintendo and one of the best ones ever and, while it wasn't hard by any means, it was still challenging enough. There definitely needs to be some kind of difficulty to keep engagement. Sure, this game could be directed to 4 year old kids or something, but if that's the case it's better to do a specific mode on the game rather than the whole thing about it or you really limit your audience. Specially because, again, they actually weren't this way originally.
Wow. kinda surprised about it, but I guess that it being available on Switch 1 too gives it leverage. It's a great series so I'm happy to see it selling well.
Very interested in this. The first one was really good but needed a bit more "football" and a bit less rpg elements if that makes sense. It probably won't change much on that part, but I'll be satisfied as long as they simply add more to what they already had.
@somnambulance I mean, consider the factor that media outlets were hating on the Switch 2 for being "overpriced", despite of people being perfectly fine with the prices of the Steam deck and Rogue Ally with the Switch 2 price and performance being right in the middle and somehow not fitting according to people. Most individuals simply parrot and repeat the loudest noise they hear and that's what happened with the Switch 2. Itst not a matter of "that big game that justifies the purchase " not happening yet, it did happen and they are Mario Kart World, Bananza and Pokopia. They would just be affected by the overall controversial reception of the console regardless of whatever came out.
I constantly see people saying that MK World or Bananza aren't those games because they aren't "for everyone" and just as there were a lot of people interested, a lot weren't. Newsflash guys: that applies to ever game in existence ever. No matter how big or small. It's one of the most useless observations in the history of mankind.
Nowadays more designs go for a cartoonish style so it's pretty cool to see something like this go for some more "realistic". It also fits the series quite well in my opinion.
@Thesharkfromjaws Not trying to be rude but it should be pretty obvious considering the franchise's popularity that there's people that cared regardless of how you felt about it.
It was my most hyped game on the console but just as we are not priority, they aren't one anymore either. Right now Granblue Fantasy Relink took that place.
@sportvater No problem, personally I didn't take offense so hopefully it didn't sound that way. I was just trying to offer a more positive view. Cheers!
I'm a bit conflicted about it. On one side I love that they look like the marionettes from that old Nintendo commercial and the avatar functionality with the gesticulation and all is genius , but on the other side I really want a new one, not another remake. I'd love that they try something like Assault again. Anyway, I still want to support it. It's at least a guaranteed fun time.
It's not my favorite style of game but the demo was pretty solid and Yatch Club gave so much content for Shovel Knight, so I'll definitely get it to support them.
@sportvater I'm not familiar with these games but aren't they single player? How can it be dead on arrival? Besides there's always people that play them. Those percentages seem arbitrary as there's usually lots of people wanting to replay cherished games and younger generations wanting to play what they consider retro games.
@dew12333 The point of their comment is that people tend to go to extreme sides when there's an argument and they think that there isn't a middle ground and people that don't fall on either side and just label them as either a fanboy or a hater depending on what they are supporting rather than checking their argument which is situational.
As for choosing a side, you are free to choose whatever you want but it kinda goes against what the person is saying, at least on the way you are reaching your conclusion. You are basing your support on allegiance rather than looking at the situation. As you mentioned, Nintendo is selling you products and neither is actually doing something for you or really cares about you regardless of how you feel about their games. The relationship should be merely transaccional but it's up to you.
It makes sense to support Nintendo in this case because there's a reason why IP laws and fair use exist and it's something that applies to everyone, not just big companies. These situations aren't just about some "big company stomping on the small hard worker who's just doing fan tributes", it's about people linking the IP with this project and making a business out of it. Things like the quality and image of a franchise could be affected negatively by a factor that isn't controlled by them and that's just one example. There's many reasons why these laws exist and sure, there's powerful people that abuse them but that happens with law in general and they do more good than bad. Your argument made in another comment about using other's work is pretty much the gist of it.
I know Bi Han is there but not as Sub Zero... I need my favorite guy there, specially if it's Kuai Liang but I guess it will probably be until the next movie. Otherwise it looks like a fun time.
It's a great game, but the performance should me much more stable. It's not terrible, but "passable" is just such a low standard for a game that relies a lot on it's visual aspect.
As for the detective aspects, I agree that I'd like more of it, but it was clear that it was a shooter since the start. Wouldn't mind if they take a few hints from the Arkham games in a sequel tho.
@anoyonmus The franchise is pretty good for the most part. Games are all over the place but I'd say there's more good than bad. The Digimon World games are divisive as a lot of people don't understand the system (they are similar to the virtual pets) but once you do it's actually very good, just more challenging than your average Pokemon game. Stories in anime and games tend to be more mature too but still directed to all public. All the games on Switch (Cybersleuth collection, Digimon World Next Order and Survive are good games). Survive was criticized by people saying that the marketing was deceptive about it being a visual novel despite of it being mentioned pretty early on it's announcement.
@MirrorFate2 Shovel Knight sold more than 2 million copies and it's estimated that Mina the Hollower needs to sell about 200k to save them. Even if that estimate is considerably off, I think there's definitely a good chance for them to be saved considering their popularity and reputation. They were doing free DLCs for many years so it's not like they have been struggling because of bad games or anything like that. They just need to handle their finances better.
As for whatever decision they made during development, it seems that it worked pretty well considering that most people reacted very positively to the demo.
They'll probably wait to see how it does in other platforms before investing resources on a Switch 2 port since it's still a recent console and this project has been rumoured for a while.
@Dev-N This is a very fair take. I don't have the game myself but I did hear about the things removed or simplified from the 3DS like how marriage works as they don't even share a bed or do as many things together. That's a shame because there's really no reason to remove things, just to improve with what was added in this game. Still, it's good that we got a sequel and this time it seems like it's getting more attention.
It's a great game. In some ways better than Shredder's Revenge and in others worse, but that's high praise considering that's a very high bar. I just wish that the music was as good and that the DLC adds replay value.
@SykoMuffin I agree, besides that's probably why they weren't that aggressive with censorship. This game needs that kind of freedom to really shine with funny situations, so if sharing online is the cost, I'm fine with it.
@Picola-Wicola Yeah, same here. That was what got my interest when I saw the article and I expected more discussion on that. It was my most anticipated game so the pause of the release was very disheartening.
My experience has been mostly positive as I expected most of this, but yeah right now the game is still on a basic state. My main gripe with it is that, after all these years, how is it still possible that we can't have an adult character? Hey kids, like Mario tennis? Well, that's whack. Here's Nickelodeon Extreme Tennis Next! Who needs Bowser when you can use the radical Michelangelo! Mario who? Here's SpongeBob! Rated E for everyone that is cool!
@Max_the_German To each their own but Okami was completely ignored when it came out on PS2. As for being "empty" I don't know what to tell you, it even has secret bosses, weapons, side quests, etc. I found it underrated and much better than every Zelda aside from Wind Waker. Same with Okamiden, which somehow managed to be a portable Okami and yet it was completely ignored compared to the DS Zeldas, which were decent but nowhere close to what they accomplished with that game.
I remembered this review just because of how unprofessional and useless it felt at the time since I had such great memories of Snow Bros. After getting the game recently I came to say that it's actually worse and more inaccurate than I even remembered. Parts like saying that the enemies potter about are straight up lies as there' many different kinds with many movements and some more aggressive than others.
I'm usually very respectful but in like 10 years or more of being on this site, this is by far the worst thing I have read on Nintendolife and it gives the impression that the reviewer tried to be funny rather than doing a good review. I thought that it wouldn't be as bad as my first impression but it made me cringe several times. There's also a clear bias against the game because of his preference for Bubble Bobble, which in my opinion while similar, was slower and less fun than Snow Bros, which felt faster and more engaging thanks to the rolling snowball mechanics and even offers other playable characters with their own twist.
Pokopia is a very impressive game. I wasn't planning on getting it until I saw that it was made by the devs of Dragon Quest Builders. I always wanted those and I had a blast with the demo of the second one but never catched them on sale. I was worried about Pokopia feeling less engaging because it doesn't have combat but nope, it's definitely addictive and fun. I do try to avoid playing it for too long as I feel that games like this and Animal Crossing work better that way.
@Sanangelo89 What the hell are you even talking about? Quote whatever I said that you are responding because I really have no idea. You probably got mistaken and wanted to reply to someone else or otherwise it doesn't make sense.
@AtlasLivesAgain Money in this game is mostly used for cosmetic reasons. Sure, you can buy some stuff to make things faster and easier, but most people don't do that because that's practically not playing the game and it's relatively easy to get those things anyway. It's quite intimidating as there's lots of things to learn and do and there's even an (in game) economy to understand and participate with to make things easier, but there's a reason why it's considered one of the best and most friendly free to play games out there. I've played it since 2014 and stopped some years ago simply because I spent too much time playing this game and I was ignoring others.
Online functionality for one game sucks so I'll be getting it in a sale then. Also while the X men Arcade game is the main attraction, I think that people aren't appreciating the Avengers and Spiderman beat'em ups enough. To be honest all of them show it's age (even Xmen) but are still fun games. Yes, even Separation Anxiety. Unfortunately I mostly play online with friends because of the distance so they kinda messed it up by doing just one of them online. They are hour long games so I need more options to replay them and multiplayer always adds a lot of replay value for me.

@MatoFilipovic They have mentioned that there will be more playable content in the next DLC.
Got them and they are pretty fun, specially Cyclops. I'm really happy that they went with the jacket look.
