Re: Hands On: Forget The Name, Square Enix's New Action RPG Is A Lovely HD-2D Take On SNES-Era Zelda

roy130390

@nhSnork Alleged 3rd world country user here and I do think it's a bad name, at least "The Adventures of Elliot" part and for an RPG. It would be a good name for a children's book or series though. "The Millennium Tales" sounds much better without it in my opinion. It might be nitpicking or whatever, but I don't see the problem with that. There's a reason why games have names and just like the gameplay, the character designs and the soundtrack it's an aspect that influences in people feeling attracted to it. Personally, it doesn't dissuade me from playing it, but I can easily imagine someone recommending the game to another person that doesn't know anything about it and simply being put off by the name. I'm willing to bet that "Triangle Strategy" is a good example of that.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Director Acknowledges Performance Drops: "We Prioritized Fun And Playability"

roy130390

@IOI They do optimize their first party games pretty well, but they also aren't portable and they barely get any exclusives out compared to Nintendo, so it's easier to keep a good record with a way smaller library. And to be honest, if they had performance issues in any of those they wouldn't say a thing.

As for Nintendo, it's not like they get a pass with everything. Hell, we just saw them getting attacked for releasing a console with a performance right in the middle between a SteamDeck and a Rog Ally while having a cost that fits right in the middle between a SteamDeck and a Rog Ally.

@tseliot It's not only the consoles that got stronger, games became way more ambitious and demanding, so it's understandable that things kinda even out. Optimizing games, making them work for different consoles and other aspects are harder than ever and a lot of people think that it's as easy as "this console is more poweful than the other, it should run better!".

Re: Review: Tamagotchi Plaza Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Well, At Least It Looks Great

roy130390

@Lizuka I didn't mention not being allowed to go lower from a certain score tho. That being said, reviewers should try to be as objective as possible and no, it wouldn't render the concept of scoring games pointless. Like, at all. The reviewer can feel however they want and have their preferences and it's pretty much impossible that they won't influence in the review to a certain degree, but there's a reason why general consensus exist and why most tend to not defer from it so drastically. While they can disagree with it, specially when it comes to liking/disliking something, when they are professionals they really have to be able to explain why they reached that conclusion and be satisfying or they can lose credibility. There's no objectively good or bad games, but there's definitely ways to measure quality in an objective way: the resistance of a material relative to their functionality, the optimization of a game and the clarity on a music track are examples of "objective quality". Certain aspects are definitely measurable and comparable to predetermined specifications. Those are tools that reviewers use to have fair reviews regardless of preference. So when you see Mario Kart World's optimization, performance and control responsiveness, those are aspects that are undeniable and that should prevent the game from reaching certain scores.

If you don't believe me, you can look for the existance of objective quality. Again, I completely agree about good/bad games being subjective, but there's definitely objective quality to them, just as with pretty much any other product. It's the difference between seeing the most graphically advanced game and say: "it has bad graphics" and "I don't like those graphics".

Re: Feature: Every Switch 2 Launch Game, Ranked

roy130390

Can't say that I agree with the placement order of this list. I think that the new entry of one of biggest exclusive franchises on the console is clearly number 1. Mario Kart World has been a fantastic way to enjoy and discover the console's capabilities.

Re: Where Are Mario Kart World's Non-Mario Racers? Producer Kosuke Yabuki Has The Answer

roy130390

Unlike the Nickelodeon characters on Sonic Racing, the crossover with other Nintendo characters felt like a crazy situation that could happen because I can see these characters coexisting in the same multiverse, so I enjoy them. There's still a certain harmony and cohesion just like when you see Disney characters from different movies together. I hope that they return as DLC and wouldn't mind new additions.

Re: Reaction: Donkey Kong Bananza Has Instantly Become My Most Anticipated Game Of 2025

roy130390

@zool I'm sorry dude but that makes no sense. It is showing what's new and released in the future. How to make it go into more detail? They are literally showing you parts of the story, the characters, the enemies, the abilities that you can do, etc. How is this trailer just "blatantly selling you something" and previous ones aren't?

I don't know what to tell you about the gameplay... you say that they didn't show how gameplay works and I'm honestly baffled. Are you sure we saw the same direct or that you saw it entirely? because they did show how the gameplay works and yeah, there's a lot of smashing because that's the core gameplay but they also showed platforming, collecting, etc.

It really wasn't any different from any other direct, specially the in-depth ones that focus on one game.

Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"

roy130390

@KBuckley27 From what I saw of the article, it's just Sega. Yakuza is kinda niché and Sonic X Shadow Generations sold pretty well on Switch 1 but didn't do much to upgrade the game for Switch 2 as far as I know. On top of that, they are competing with other strong games like Cyberpunk, Rune Factory and Fantasy Life after people spent a lot of money on a new console and one of the most popular franchises got a new, expensive entry.

Re: Say Hello To Pauline In Donkey Kong Bananza

roy130390

That was a great direct! The game looks absolutely fantastic and, while the first time it caught my attention, now I have no doubts that I'll get it regardless of reviews. I'm willing to bet that it will do great in that regard either way. Sculpt mode and amiibo functionality were very forgettable, but it really doesn't matter because after seeing the core gameplay I'm sure it's gonna be one of the best platformers ever.

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?

roy130390

@The_Nintend_Pedant People have a really hard time understanding that their taste is subjective, so don't worry about it. It's definitely annoying though.

Personally Free Roam has been fantastic. I always wanted a relaxing mode on Mario Kart to enjoy the stages. On top of that, this one included challenges and costumes to unlock so it's much better than just receiving the average practice/free mode. The map is so charming and full of details and it has been a great way to relax and take my time to enjoy the game when I'm too tired/stressed for racing.

Re: Best Rune Factory Games Of All Time

roy130390

@Arawn93 Maybe some games do it better if they separate combat from farming, but as a series that offers both and other things like crafting and cooking, it's my favorite so I wouldn't say that it's just because of the relationships. Closest is Stardew Valley and while I can appreciate the game, I still prefer RF games by a long shot. I do agree that the relationships are one of the best things about the series though.

Re: Best Rune Factory Games Of All Time

roy130390

Guardians is great, probably the second best one for me, but I wouldn't put it above Rune Factory 4. This is a cozy series for me and faster farming and automating certain things isn't something that I prefer. To me, these games are about taking your sweet time with them and slowly leveling each thing by actually doing it. It's also a bit too easy for my taste. Having said that, it's a fantastic game.

Re: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Kart World?

roy130390

10/10 for me. I don't share the sentiment about open world needing more, it's practically a much better practice mode to use between races and to experiment. It has many challenges and lots of fun details to discover. I don't care about a story mode so going directly to the gameplay, which is buttery smooth, is very satisfying and The tracks and music have been fantastic, as well as the new characters.

Re: A24 Bringing Elden Ring To The Big Screen With Ex-Machina Director

roy130390

They really need to stop making live action adaptations of everything. Elden Ring and the Souls series is something that doesn't fit that format at all... but people will get excited, it will probably be terrible but sell enough and the cycle will continue...

I know, different strokes for different folks and all, but I really don't get the need of experiencing something that is pretty much a sure thing to be inferior to the thing that you already have at your disposal.

Re: Randy Pitchford Defends Borderlands 4 Pricing Comment

roy130390

Seriously, all he has to do is shut up. I feel bad for the devs that work so hard on this game only for this individual to come and sabotage everything. I hope that people remember that there's a lot more than this guy behind the game, so while I understand not wanting to contribute to what he said about needing to pay $80 to be a true fan, it would still be nice to consider the game on some discount and to judge it for it's actual merits instead of hating it for just one guy. Unfortunately, there's no way of supporting it without giving money to him, but it's just too big of a project with so many people on it that do deserve the money for it's work to just ignore it to try to damage him. Besides, it's very likely that it would hurt any worker way more and he'll just end up in any other company and projects.
