I got Panzer Dragoon Saga the day it came out. Beat it in 2 weeks, sold it on Ebay for $120. Felt pretty good about myself. That feeling has changed since then.
That's one of the mystery packs revealed. Great pick, but I was thinking they would be FF16 and FF7 Rebirth. I'd happily go for another year of DLC packs if they felt like it, even after spending $99 on the complete edition. Or even put up a 2nd quest for all the songs.
The N.A. SNES version, called Final Fantasy 2 is my most replayed RPG, beaten it about 7 times at this point. It's comfort food, wonky translation and all.
Zeit from the Trails series, Missile from Ghost Trick, Repede from Tales of Vesperia, and not on a Nintendo system, but Torgal from FF16 is also a very good boy.
I'm pretty sure these are getting announced first for Xbox, at their showcase. After that they will be announced for Switch and PS on Twitter, blogs, etc. Kind of like after the Playstation Showcase basically all the 3rd party games got announced for Xbox too.
F-Zero, Golden Sun, Wave Race, Punch Out, Kid Icarus, and many other great franchises continue to be ignored, yet 1-2 Switch gets a sequel. What the heck?
Looks like Ys 7/Memories of Celceta with a jump button. I'm all over this! Hopefully soon we'll hear about western release dates for Kuro no Kiseki and/or Ys X!
I always thought it was hilarious when someone on the show clearly wanted to say "Metroidvania" but clearly that's a banned word in Nintyland so they'd say something like "Metroid style action exploration Castlevania game."
I saw Final Fantasy 6 at #73 and I almost spit coffee all over my laptop. Same with Castlevania: SotN at #62 and Super Metroid at #60. And no Mega Man!?
A raise? I like your attitude. Well deserved. I look forward to the next Xenoblade or whatever else Monolith Soft has coming up next as much as I look forward to the next Zelda, Mario or Metroid. They're that good in my book.
Game looks really cool, thanks for the review. Even though my biggest pet peeve with party based action RPGs appears to exist here (terrible companion AI) but it sounds like it's more annoying than frustrating. Game is on the wishlist, but there are just so many RPGs to play right now.
My favorite quest is the one where I see something interesting off in the distance, I say "That looks interesting!" Then I go investigate it. That's the best Zelda quest.
Finishing up Trails to Azure. It might be the best Trails game, and Lloyd Bannings might be giving Estelle Bright a run for her mira. I am serious, and don't call me Shirley. I'm also getting close to hitting 100% quest completion in Theatrythym: Final Bar Line so hopefully I'll finish that up too.
The top 3 should have been obvious, only the order was in question. I'd put 5 over 8, 5 is on the same level as FF6, Chrono Trigger, Lunar 2- it's just about perfect.
@IceClimbersMain I was just popping in to comment that the last 2 DLC drops are just a ? at the moment. I think they might be FF7 Rebirth and FF16 tracks.
@Nanami_Ataraxi
So the Trails series, in order is:
Trails in the Sky Trilogy
Crossbell Arc- Zero and Azure
Cold Steel 1-4
then Trails into Reverie is the icing on the cake up to this point.
Kuro no Kiseki 1 and 2 (Trails into Darkness I think is the rough translation) are already out in Japan.
From what I've heard, you might want to hold off on Reverie until you've played the previous 9 games (!!!)
Can't wait for Trails to Azure to finally complete the gap between Sky and Cold Steel. Then Reverie in July and I'll be all caught up! But still 2 games behind Japan.
I am also "Color-impaired" is the term I use. I didn't use the color-blind options in Prime Remastered and I struggled to tell the difference between the times the final boss was vulnerable to wave or ice beam. Still managed to beat it, but made it harder on myself than I needed to lol. To give another example, look at the umbrella pic in this article. If I stare long enough at the top of the pic, I can tell that from left to right, it goes orange, yellow, green. But if I look just above the pic, the 3 colors all blend together.
Boomer moment: I still remember buying Street Fighter 2 on SNES the day it came out in 1992 for $87 after sales tax. Chrono Trigger and Phantasy Star 4 were over $100 when they came out, too. It's surprising that games managed to stay $60 for as long as they did. It was a good run but... be prepared for $70 to be the new normal across all platforms.
I can't stand that Dark Souls mechanic where you lose your exp and have to retrieve it after you die. The game is punishing you by wasting your time, and I ain't got time for that.
Cool article! I'd also like to add Ice Man's stage from Mega Man 1 is definitely Faithfully by Journey. Neon Tiger's stage from Mega Man X3 has the main riff from My Michelle by Guns 'N Roses.
Does Trails in the Sky Trilogy count as one game? Ys VI: Ark of Napishtim would be the obvious choice since it's in the same style as Felghana and Origin, coming to and already out on Switch, respectively.
Don't forget about the Oath in Felghana remaster (soooo.... Ys 3 Remake Remastered?) Possibly the best game in the series. If you liked Ys Origin, you'll love Oath in Felghana. Also coming to Switch in 2023 in Japan, and XSEED willing, sometime after that in the west.
I'll be getting Reverie on PS5 after playing Zero and Azure on Switch. I really hope we get a Switch Pro before the 11th Trails game, Kuro no Kiseki, gets an English release hopefully some time in 2024. The series just feels more at home on a handheld.
Well you got my attention with Lunar and Grandia producer. Obviously not the same team considering the death of the director in 2011, but still I'll keep my eyes on this.

Re: Best Mech Games On Nintendo Switch
@Dualmask Well played with "mechanics." Yeah, the mech fights are pretty simple, I'd compare them to the 1v1 duals in Suikoden.
Re: Best Mech Games On Nintendo Switch
No love for, "Heed my call, Valimar!" or were those games not included because the inclusion of mechs could be considered a spoiler?
