Dire, Dire Docks is an absolute masterpiece. It’s an aural snapshot of 1990s midi music. Many have tried to remake it with more modern tools or turned it into a symphonic version but to no avail. It just stands out there in its lo-fi perfection.
"We don't know anything, so it's difficult to say". Well if you don't know anything, say "no, nothing's planned". "It's difficult to say" leaves room for doubt and expectations. So they definitely know something.
I had never played those GB versions before they went up on the NSO, I had always played the SNES ones. I was really nicely surprised at how well it plays, and how beautiful it looks for such limited hardware.
And, as always, the soundtrack slaps. This ***** really is bananas.
I'm quite (nicely) surprised at the number of commenters here who liked it, like myself. I can see it's still quite polarising today, but I thought more people would throw it under the bus. It's my favourite game from the trilogy.
Just played those two on SteamDeck. They are short games, but quite fun to replay anyway. Probably the kind of game that's fun to watch too, for example when a friend is playing it for the first time, just like introducing someone to a horror movie when you already know all the jump scares. Platform is more on the visual horror side than Exit though, which is more psychological.
Can anyone on the tech/graphics side explain why all the buttons/icons/text on screen still look pixellated ? I've seen some footage of 3DS or GC games running on emulators that had HD text and menus. Why isn't this possible here ?
@sketchturner Came here to say exactly that! If we compare SM to the whole franchise (not just 2D), I think Prime 2: Echoes goes even beyond in terms of isolation and claustrophobia. When you’re in the Aether and running out of light and that there’s only that distant fuzzy drone for a soundtrack…
Interesting case here. Nintendo’s move is understandable without any question. But they should also start thinking over the fact that some people are more willing to pay for emulation than actually go buy a game. That’s an interesting trend.
@Aswannsong Using strong words such as “stealing” and “plagiarism” is also borderline defaming when DF is clearly mentioned all over this article, X post etc. But it’s true that a link to the original, written article would be nice.
That being said, If it weren’t for NL I would never actually watch DF videos and give them my (much needed?) extra view.
It looks like some parts of the games got the premium remaster treatment whereas others just got some extra lighting here and there.
It’s far from matching a Metroid Prime level of remastering sorcery but it looks quite decent. Still, I remember playing the Anniversary edition on Wii (I’m surprised no one ever mentions that one) and I think it looked more or less the same.
The Zelda timeline is really all over the place, there is no sense to be made from it. I'll just keep enjoying the games as though their narratives were completely separated from each other's. Even the links (ha!) between BOTW and TOTK (promoted as its direct sequel) are patchy.
Fan interpretation and developper intention are two different things, and the more devs try to explain, the less plausible it gets.
It looks like a crossover between Dorfromantik and Islanders. But definitely more inspired by the former.
@GreyFenyx It's funny because I used to play Dorfromantik without paying attention to the challenges, and not really trying to form as many perfect tile placements as possible. Then I changed the way I played and it's quite challenging and stressful when you're running out of tiles. It's great how you can play this game both ways and how it can appeal to a lot of people that way.
I've said it before but this is the kind of goodies I'd buy (or pay more for) over any resin or plastic figure/keychain or steel box or other dust-catching, space-taking cr*p.
@Astral-Grain I don't think it's fair to call out @SwitchVogel on the base of 'other reviews' rather than your personal gaming experience ; about two different games reviewed 12 months apart and between which multiple farm sims were released and may have changed or raised the reviewer's expectations (especially after a couple bombastic trailers). I guess that's what he was talking about, in his first reply to you.
I disagree with your view about NL's stance on indie games getting tanked in the reviews, I don't think that's true. A lot of farm sims do though, but maybe because they're trash? And lots of triple A games do too.
@MirrorFate2 SEGA probably got a sweet pile of money from Apple for this, and judging from the janky screenshots, not all of it went into development... So I wouldn't worry about them.
It doesn't mean our account (and all its data) will carry over the next system at all. He basically said "now that we have everyone's e-mail address we will be able to tell you all when our next product is finished and available".

Which I suspect was made on purpose. But still, I'm amazed at how minimalistic the beach set looks (for example). A few blue LEGO pieces to symbolise the sea seems very abstract, when the games have always been close to naive art.
DiD yOu KnOw ?
You can make a digital game physical by storing it on an SD card.
The main argument I see here towards keeping it physical is the resell value. We're talking about video games, not houses. You'd have to wait for nostalgia to hit, so at least 15-20 years to get your money back on the second-hand market.
edit : anyway, it's always best to leave the option open for the consumers, so I'd probably say definitely maybe not to an all-digital console.
@spiderman0616 I feel a bit the same. I never really go back to games I've already beaten. Except for games I played when I was a teenager, out of pure nostalgia. When it comes to more recent games I'm not really keen on replaying them. I don't know why is that.
BotW will always be ranked above TotK to me. It opened the way for it. I got bored really quickly with TotK as I didn't feel invited to discover a brand new universe like a Zelda game usually does. I'm glad a lot of players felt a different way though because it introduced some nice game mechanics, but to me TotK was not as groundbreaking as the milestone that BotW was when it came out.
@John_Deacon The answer to your question is in the title of the article, the first sentence of the article, and the first 20 seconds of the video in the article.
I played the demo but found it a bit repetitive. Does it get better in the main game? I really loved the atmosphere but it felt like a never-ending, unrewarding loop.
