My plan is to not have too many plans. I'm too pessimistic that my preorder will be cancelled/delayed/chucked over the neighbours fence by the courier.

Are these definitely game updates, or is it actually a Switch 2 update that improves the emulation/compatibility?

A lot of people complain about the lack of content but I think many don't realise just how much was added after launch. Even this article mistakenly states the are 10 player characters when in fact there are 15. Plus that means 45 different arms. There's a massive badge collection system that only appeared several months later. There are multiple mini games, solo mode, party mode, online, offline. And standard controls that are very effective if you don't like motion controls.

I assumed this would be smaller given that it's priced lower than RMX. 12 tracks sounds pretty good. My guess is post-launch content might include older tracks from RMX.

@Spider-Kev The game-key cards must be a much cheaper memory type, which will therefore be slower. The total storage is less relevant than the chip type itself (which we don't know ATM)

The way these are manufactured it's likely the cost of a smaller card would be negligible, so there might not be any point offering 8/16/32GB cards.

@dequesi This is a good question. I originally thought this was the release day list, but it doesn't look like they've committed to releasing these on release day, or committed to any other games getting free updates.

Virtual game cards seem like a much clearer, simpler system but it seems odd that they rolled this out to Switch now rather than just making it the new way for Switch 2. I guess they wanted to maintain compatibility, but it seems to have surprised a lot of people who suddenly can't play due to using multiple consoles.

Couldn't you always re-download games by opening the game from the normal games list? I don't remember having to go to the eshop for anything.

These over-priced collectors editions are scummy enough as it is. $250 for a pile of waste plastic.

For £75 I'm definitely waiting for reviews and some extensive real-world longevity testing. I won't be rushing to buy extra joycons for similar reasons.

I'll be keeping my OG Switch for a few reasons. Backwards compatibility is only ~95%. Gameshare might be a nice feature. And my family can use I while I hog the Switch 2...

At 71GB this games costs £13.86 to store on an official Nintendo SD express card.

@the_beaver I'm not suggesting you should, but you literally can buy it right now without owning a switch 2 console.

I'm guessing that means Switch 1 games with a Switch 2 upgrade will work, but Switch 2 exclusives won't allow gameshare on Switch 1.

I was quite pro these game-key cards as better than code-in-a-box, but if they are being used this widely then it's a concern. We'll have to wait and see how pricing ends up once we are beyond the launch period.

Why was this even a question? If they were adding the DLC they would have made it very clear it was a bundle. Why would you think it might be there when they didn't say it was?

@RubyCarbuncle Argos has absolutely charged the full amount for my pre-order, it's not a pending transaction.

My recommendation is to use a credit card for section 75 protection.

I think we're going to get cross-gen releases for a few more years. A lot of indies won't have need of the improved hardware and I wouldn't be surprised if we even get more Nintendo titles after Metroid Prime 4 with a standard and Switch 2 Edition.

The idea that the real price will be under £75 misses the point. Switch 1 games launch at around £40. (I think £43 is the most I've paid for a day 1 purchase) Switch 2 games are going to be £55-£65. So possibly around a 50% increase! We will have to wait and see how much margin retailers have on this as there's not much competition yet.

So there's no increase for Switch 2? That's good at least.

Mario Kart World is basically selling for £34 in the bundle which is the same as MK8DX costs when it's on sale!

I feel like they've just inflated the price of Mario Kart to make the bundle look better value. We can see that most games are actually less than this.

@Bobobiwan It is a thing, "Game-Key cards", but not for all games. I don't think any games have been announced to be using this yet.

Assuming these are reusable (not a one-time download) it's a huge improvement over code-in-a-box releases.

I'm highly unlikely to pay to upgrade a Switch game, but likely I'd buy the Switch 2 edition of anything the comes out cross-gen.

@N00BiSH Yeah this makes a lot of sense for Nintendo, they can avoid relying on social media.

The Mario Kart Lego set isn't even based on the design from Mario Kart 9, so it's clearly not a direct tie-in to the new game.

I feel like it has to be cross gen. This is nothing like the BOTW situation where buying the Wii U version locked you out of the Switch version. It will automatically work on Switch 2, and I would hope you can just buy a single version of the game that works on both consoles but is enhanced for Switch 2. (And you can begin on Switch 1 and seamlessly transfer your saves to Switch 2 later)

I just don't see how they can make it Switch 2 exclusive after all this time, but also they can't just release a flagship game this close to Switch 2's release that plays exactly the same on their latest hardware.

Is this leak actually giving us anything new? We've already seen the dock both in leaked photos and in official renders.

$60 for a 400 piece set isn't cheap, especially as this is likely made from a lot of small elements.

The NES set was really a model TV with Super Mario display, the actual NES model was less than half the set.
