It doesn't look like a Mario power-up - because it's an elephant wearing a Mario costume not Mario wearing an elephant costume. Most other power-ups are either costumes, tools, or size changes.
@RiasGremory Do you think the EU doesn't enforce its own regulations? If they don't comply then they can't sell in a massive chunk of the global market.
Switch batteries are easier to replace than almost any other similar device. It's one of the most easily repaired devices (but still room for improvement). I don't think Nintendo will struggle with this requirement if they follow a similar design philosophy in future.
@Banjo- Yes, but if it's possible to do PS5 -> wifi -> screen then it's also possible to do PS5 > wifi > internet > wifi > screen. It's just a question of whether they've set it up to work like that.
Not sure why people are saying the Switch hasn't had a price drop? It was £280 at launch and is now £255. (Plus, that £280 in 2017 prices is £350 in 2023 prices)
Terry Pratchett's "Only You Can Save Mankind" is well worth reading (and the sequels, though they aren't technically video game based). It's sold as a children's book, but it's Pratchett so he is as insightful as in any of his adult books.
I used to use my own name, because that's what the old games intended you to do, but over time the character has become his own thing, so he has to be "Link".
I'm still holding out some hope that given Lego already has a relationship with Nintendo they have the Zelda license and are working on their own set (i.e. not one based on Ideas submissions)
Seems like everything that's actually new is gated off. X battles unavailable for most players, Tri-color battles are super rare, and Big Run is another time limited splatfest style mode...
The reduced power consumption is nice, but really 12w was already incredibly low. My TV uses something like 100w, so that 6w reduction is largely irrelevant.

Re: Nintendo Announces Mario Red Edition Switch OLED, Out October
I'm too afraid that the day I buy a Switch OLED will be the day they announce a Switch 2
Re: Poll: Have You Ordered Physical Switch Games That Came With The Cart Missing?
@gcunit No need to unseal. The boxes are transparent so it's very easy to see if theres a card inside by looking through the bottom end of the box.

Re: PlayStation Boss Doesn't Think Call Of Duty Appeals To Nintendo's Core Audience
He must have a very low opinion of Call of Duty if he thinks it wouldn't sell to any of 120m Switch owners.
Re: Nintendo Direct Showcase Confirmed For Tomorrow, 21st June
"focused mainly on Nintendo Switch titles launching this year"
Switch 2 announcement confirmed!
Re: Nintendo Shows Off Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble's Motion Controls On Switch
I do enjoy Nintendolife with some pink Kirby highlights
Re: UK Charts: Not Even Street Fighter 6 Can Knock Zelda: TOTK Off Its Throne
This is pretty crazy in the UK chart. Just a few years ago Nintendo would have been considered a console "for kids".
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Update Now Live (Version 1.1.2), Here Are The Full Patch Notes
I don't get how people are low on rupees? Just smash rocks!
Re: Random: Sony's Upcoming 'Project Q' Is A Little More Wii U Than Switch
I am amused that in 1 day they can announce that their "Brand Momentum" is ahead of Nintendo and also copy Splatoon and the Wii U.
Re: Random: Sony's Upcoming 'Project Q' Is A Little More Wii U Than Switch
@Banjo- Yes, but if it's possible to do PS5 -> wifi -> screen then it's also possible to do PS5 > wifi > internet > wifi > screen. It's just a question of whether they've set it up to work like that.
Re: Random: Sony's Upcoming 'Project Q' Is A Little More Wii U Than Switch
So does it only play over local wifi, or over the internet anywhere you have wifi?
Re: Random: Indie Game Blocked By Nintendo Over Confusion On Microtransactions
It's an 18 rated game designed to look like a kids game, I'd say its perfectly reasonable for Nintendo to be cautious.
Re: Random: Nintendo's Brand Momentum Has Been Flat Since 2018, Says Sony
Someone was probably paid a lot of money to invent that chart. What the hell is brand momentum anyway?
Re: Zelda: TOTK Playtimes Start To Appear, And Some People Haven't Been Getting A Lot Of Sleep
@Scapetti It's actually correct since the Switch only shows play time in 5 hour increments, it's impossible to have, say, 62 hours.
Re: Zelda: TOTK Playtimes Start To Appear, And Some People Haven't Been Getting A Lot Of Sleep
@prismt Why would you do that, except to deliberately "fake" your play time?
Re: Expect More Open-World Zelda Games Going Forwards, Suggests Eiji Aonuma
I can see them doing another 2D Zelda alongside the now open-world main line games.
Re: Nintendo Survey Asks Players What Kind Of Game They Want Pikmin 4 To Be
It's actually a clever question. Pikmin can be any and all of those options, so I guess they want to know what to emphasise in the trailers.
Re: Switch Hardware Sales Now Over 125 Million, PS2, Nintendo DS Target Still A Way Off
@Chaotic_Neutral How do you need 4 Switches for 2 people?
This is how the DS got such high sales though, so it's still a fair comparison.
Re: As Switch Momentum Slows, Nintendo Expects Further Sales Decline Next Year
Not sure why people are saying the Switch hasn't had a price drop? It was £280 at launch and is now £255. (Plus, that £280 in 2017 prices is £350 in 2023 prices)
Re: Feature: Pokémon TCG Community Engulfed In Potential Fraud Scandal
This is what happens when something that costs pennies to print is valued in the hundreds.
Re: Nintendo Reveals Its Next Switch Online Game Trial (Europe)
One of the best Switch games. Would love a sequel to this.
Re: Feature: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Gameplay Trailer - Every New Detail Revealed
I don't really get the hate for weapon degradation. No one complains that food has a limited use, so why are limited use weapons a problem?
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer Gets Creative With Vehicle Building, Fused Weapons
I highly recommend the UK version of this trailer without the terrible dull US voiceover.
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer Gets Creative With Vehicle Building, Fused Weapons
Should I watch this, or is it basically full of spoilers?!
Re: Nintendo Places Outside Top Ten In Metacritic's 13th Annual Game Publisher Rankings
The most interesting thing here is that Microsoft were number 1 in 2021, but failed to release 5 games in 2022 so didn't make the list.
Re: Splatoon 3's Next Splatfest Is A Monster Mashup
Well that's just silly. Nessie and Bigfoot are aliens too!
Re: Soapbox: Why Aren't There More Books About Games?
Terry Pratchett's "Only You Can Save Mankind" is well worth reading (and the sequels, though they aren't technically video game based). It's sold as a children's book, but it's Pratchett so he is as insightful as in any of his adult books.
Re: Looks Like Square Enix Is Still Planning To Release Multiple Blockchain Games
There are clearly still plenty of blockchain "consultants" telling companies how much money they can make from blockchain.
Re: Splatoon 3's Fresh Season Update Is On The Way, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
PvP Tableturf is what I'm here for!
Re: Editorial: Don't Worry, We'll Be Avoiding Zelda: TOTK Spoilers On Nintendo Life
But what counts as a spoiler? Lots of official output is full of spoilers.
Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Switch Release Has Reversible Cover Art
That's nice, but from the headline I guessed it would be the GameCube cover, which would have been cool.
Re: Talking Point: What Do You Name Link When You're Playing A Zelda Game?
I used to use my own name, because that's what the old games intended you to do, but over time the character has become his own thing, so he has to be "Link".
Re: Metroid Prime Remastered Switch Box Art Unveiled, Here's A Look
So £17.99 for the whole trilogy on Wii U, or £34.99 for only the first game on Switch...
Re: Poll: Would You Pay $70 For The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
Most I've ever paid for a Switch game is £42.95. If Zelda is a little over that I'll bite, and I doubt it will be over £50 if you shop around.
Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2023 Nintendo Direct
Switch 2 release with TotK cross-platform
Re: Random: NASCAR Bans Ross Chastain's "GameCube" Inspired Wall-Ride Move
It was 100% certain this would be banned. A very dangerous tactic.
Re: Gulikit's 'Hall Joystick' Promises To Eliminate Drifing For Your Switch Joy-Con
Nice idea, but they are very pricey, and I'd be reluctant to spend £30 when so many other parts of the joy cons are fragile too.
Re: Random: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Lego Ideas Set Qualifies For Official Review
I'm still holding out some hope that given Lego already has a relationship with Nintendo they have the Zelda license and are working on their own set (i.e. not one based on Ideas submissions)
Re: Triangle Strategy Has Now Sold Over One Million Copies Worldwide
Deserves more - my most-played game this year
Re: Tricolor Turf War Will Have Its Own Selectable Game Mode In Splatoon 3's Next Splatfest
This is great. Now they just need to make it an option outside of splatfests too.
Re: Splatoon 3 'Chill Season 2022' Update Announced - New Weapons, Stages, Game Modes And More
Seems like everything that's actually new is gated off. X battles unavailable for most players, Tri-color battles are super rare, and Big Run is another time limited splatfest style mode...
Re: Nintendo Highlights The Environmental Benefit Of New Switch Packaging
The reduced power consumption is nice, but really 12w was already incredibly low. My TV uses something like 100w, so that 6w reduction is largely irrelevant.
Re: Random: Lego Is Now Blocking Idea Submissions Based On The Legend Of Zelda
This either means they won't be making any Zelda sets, or it means they have their own in the pipeline.
Re: Over 100 Million People Played Switch In The Last Year
@JimNorman "from November, 2021 to September, 2022 - yep, it's confusing"
It's more confusing when the chart says October - September.
Re: Over 100 Million People Played Switch In The Last Year
Is that a good number? It's less than 1 person per console, and with lots of families sharing a console that means a lot of abandoned units.
Re: Nintendo Says It Won't Raise Switch Prices, But Will Continue To Monitor The Situation
The PS5 price increase is unprecedented. It's definitely not something Nintendo should be copying.
Arguably they should be looking at introducing Switch 2 without a price increase.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 15.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Why are people bothered if it's v15? It's just a number, they could name it version 3090 if they wanted to.
Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope For Nintendo Switch Has Gone Gold
@rjejr I'm pretty sure "gone gold" means "we've started working on the day 1 patch"
