Doesn't sound appealing at all. Legend of Zelda has one of the most unoriginal generic storylines in gaming. The games are amazing but it's not because of the story.

He doesn't really think it's just the four letters on the box, that's absurd. For one thing if they lose the FIFA license that means someone else will have it so they will have another football game to compete with.

It's not destructive though is it? The shop is open right now so buy whatever you want, keep it forever. No one seriously expects them to maintain an eshop for a dead system. No one is complaining that Nintendo stopped making SNES carts.

Nintendo just see it as three modes. Lite is handheld only, they don't consider it to support tabletop mode because it doesn't have a stand. Sports only really "supports" TV mode, even if they haven't specifically forced incompatibility with the Lite.

I'm certain this is a purely business decision for Nintendo. They will be getting negligible sales from WiiU and 3DS, and there will be a maintenance cost to keep them running.

@msvt game updates will not be gone - they will still be available for the "foreseeable future" according to Nintendo.

My initial reaction was, "Quick, what do I need to buy?" but on reflection, if I haven't bought something in the last 10 years I probably didn't really want it.

I'm not sure if I like this. I think one of the reasons Wii U flopped was that they waited too long and interest in the Wii had waned too much. If they wait until the Switch is losing popularity then it becomes harder to sell the next generation.

If Ubisoft wanted us to be able to re-sell digital content than they could have done that at any time. NFTs don't enable that to happen unless Ubisoft allow it to, and they don't need NFTs to allow it to happen.

@FishyS I'm sure a lot of parents would just give it unopened, but personally I'd always setup a device before giving it to my kids.

@FishyS Firstly, you don't have to tear anything to open a Switch, and secondly, most kids just want to get to the games, they don't want to wait for account setup and mandatory downloads.

Shouldn't a patent include a novel idea? Not being able to move to a location that your character can't stand on or in doesn't seem original to me. And a rewind feature is certainly not new.

@nocdaes I would guess that a mean average would naturally be distorted. For example maybe both Skyrim and Animal crossing have a few players that have spent hundreds of hours over two weeks, but Animal Crossing has thousands more players that have spent less than 30 minutes, while Skyrim has only a few. That gives Skyrim a much higher average. Likewise for AAA Clock, which will have a very small number of "players" who've just left it on permanently for two weeks.

@nocdaes It's only over the last two weeks, so it's mostly going to feature new games.

Average playing time over two weeks isn't a particularly good measure of how worthwhile a game is, as demonstrated by AAA Clock

Sorry, but their argument over copyright is rubbish. Just because they didn't use the original assets doesn't mean they haven't copied the game. If I type out a book by hand instead of scanning it I've still broken copyright.

I could see this finding a decent niche market.

I hope they didn't pay anyone anything for that trailer. The thumbnail for the trailer does a better job of showing off the product than the trailer itself.

I'm not sure the purple looked feminine, but it definitely made it look like a toy. At the same time Sony were flat out trying to appeal to 15-25 year olds.

After all the furore over the Mario 35th games only being available for 6 months it's amusing to know Nintendo once released games that were playable only for 1 week (if you had the correct hardware, a subscription, and lived in Japan)

@larryisaman People like to collect stuff. They must think it sells more copies or why continue to do it.

It's pretty much irrelevant whether it's the same ROM or not - they are still using the same basic trick of blocking off a small amount of content and charging double to those that want it.

@sixrings Yeah, I guess that's likely. But zero mission is already a remake, and original Metroid is on NSO. Nintendo are certainly inconsistent with how they handle their back catalogue.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't release some of these on Switch as part of the Dread hype. Seems like easy money. But Nintendo's gonna do Nintendo.

It's not just drift, the side rail buttons/lights fail quickly too. I actually really like the joycon design, but they are so unreliable, especially for so expensive a controller.
