Re: Editorial: Is This a Golden Era of Gaming? Absolutely

business-scrub

Excellent piece. I have to disagree though, this is far from the golden age of gaming. Like others have said: DLC, micro-transactions, unfinished (buggy) games being released, delays for almost every game, rising game prices, a focus on graphics over gameplay are all huge issues with the current generation. Not saying the generations before were perfect either but for every step the industry takes forward they seem to take two backwards. Although I believe the consumer is just as much to blame as the companies.

Now if you said this was the golden age of INDIE gaming, I would have to agree. So many killer IPs coming out these days.

Wow, I've never seen so many people so adamantly against achievements. Here's a tip: if you don't like them, just ignore them, it's really not that hard. No one is forcing you to complete them, it's just an extra little system to reward players for playing the game. If you don't want to kill 100 of a certain enemy, or whatever the case is, than it's simple - don't.

@GravyThief It's called Mario Party, my friend.
I never had the problem of the stick wearing away like people here have, but those mini-games in Mario Party that had you rotate the stick as fast as possible sure caused a lot of damage to mine. The sticks are all wobbly now and are impossible to use for any precise movement (not to mention the time I burned a hole in my palm from doing too many of those mini-games in a row.)

Re: Niantic Is Facing a Class-Action Lawsuit Over Pokémon GO Fest

I understand that people are angry, but I doubt this lawsuit will go anywhere. Niantic are not at all responsible for people traveling to Chicago for the festival, all they did was host the festival, if you decide to travel miles and miles to get there that is all on you. You don't see any Chicago residents claiming that Niantic needs to reimburse them for gas money.
Anyone claiming this suit is justified is probably an American, those guys think they can sue over any little thing.

@NEStalgia Anyone who thinks pixel art is "cheap and lazy" has clearly never tried their hand at it. I can assure you pixel art takes an extreme attention to detail and a crazy level of patience that most people don't seem to realize.

Sorry, I'm just sick of the stigma around pixel art games. It is an artistic choice in nearly every instance, rarely ever a developer being "lazy."

Re: Feature: Our Nintendo Hopes and Dreams for E3 2017

Again, Animal Crossing Switch is all I need from E3 this year. I'm not expecting it to be announced but it's on almost everyone's wishlist this year so I'm hoping it's at least on Nintendo's radar.

Oh, also Seiken Densetsu Collection in the west would be nice. Every day I have to stop myself from buying the JP version since I can't read Japanese, but I want to play those games again so bad!

Re: Harvest Moon: Light of Hope to Brighten Up the Nintendo Switch

Hm, I'm skeptical but interested. While both series (HM and SoS) haven't impressed me much lately, Harvest Moon games have been the worse of the two since the split. If they really are going for more of a nostalgic Harvest Moon vibe it could actually be alright, but I'll wait until I at least see some screens or gameplay before I start getting my hopes up.

Re: E3 2017 Floor Plans Show Another Sizeable Nintendo Booth

It'd be pretty cool if one of those big chunks of space was turned into an Animal Crossing village for the (hopefully) inevitable Animal Crossing Switch. I'm still bitter about the lack of AC on the Wii U, especially after the plaza and Festival were released. I mean, they clearly have all the assets to do an HD Animal Crossing so it has to be coming...right?

Re: Review: Punch Club (3DS eShop)

Yeah, I was really excited for this game when it was announced but I downloaded it on Steam when it came out and got bored pretty quickly. My roommate who loves more strategic, management-based games loves it though! So if you're into that sort of thing, it really is a great game. I think it could've been one of my favourite indies if the fighting mechanic was more involved.

Re: Project CARS 2 Creative Director Loves Nintendo Switch, But Don't Expect A Port

business-scrub

People seem to think that Nintendo are just being lazy or stupid because the Switch doesn't match the PS4/Xbone's power. I don't think these people seem to realize that a portable device with that kind of power would: a) cost way more than anyone in their right mind would pay for a video game console; and b) would kill the battery even faster than it already does, forcing them to put in an even bigger/more expensive battery, effectively driving the price even higher. If you want powerful, current-gen portable gaming and don't mind shelling out a ridiculous amount of money: buy yourself a gaming laptop.

And I don't understand why this is news anyway, developers are clearly going to take a "wait-and-see" approach with the Switch because the Wii U did so poorly. We've already heard from developers that the Switch is much easier to make/port games for (in fact, I vaguely remember some saying it's the easiest out of the 3) so once everyone has a better idea of the install base and demographic of the Switch, I'm sure the 3rd party support will come. In what sort of capacity, well, we'll just have to wait and see.
