Since its announcement, fans of farming-simulator Stardew Valley have been heavily anticipating its release on the Nintendo Switch.
Having the opportunity to take the game anywhere and continue with farm life on the go is why many people have resisted the urge to purchase the title on other consoles. Without a confirmed release date and with 2017 running out of time fast, it can't be long until an official date is named.
Tom Coxon from developer from Chucklefish replied to a fan's question on Twitter about how the company are progressing with the Switch port, and stated that until they are "absolutely certain", a release date will not be shared:
Are you still looking forward to playing Stardew Valley on the Switch, or have you given up waiting and purchased it for another console? Let us know.

Take you time.
I'd much rather a finished working product than something rushed out.
I'll keep waiting, this will still probably be a Day 1 for me
And with 'disappoint' they mean 'we don't want a billion raging gamers bashing the game and our company'.
I haven't been this excited to sell turnips since Animal Crossing New Leaf
@BigKing well, duh. That's exactly how more and more people express their disappointment. Especially online where anything you write is a soapbox and you absolutely have to make as much of a show out of it as possible.
Very much lookoomg forward to this. Like other commentators, I'm happy to wait untold the developers are satisfied.
One of my most anticipated Switch titles, especially because it seems such a perfect fit. I've resisted getting it on PC and PS4, so hopefully we don't have long to wait now.
I don't see why this couldn't run on the Switch.
Puts on snarky hat
Can we get a guarantee that the Switch version is being developped? We were assured the Wii U version was til a few days before release finding out they never even made a Wii U version.
Grumble grumble.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Of course the game can and is running on the Switch. That doesnt mean bugs and glitches wont be present.
All i can say for Switch owners: buy this game, it'll be worth the wait.
I got over 70 hours on Steam, enjoyed every minute of it.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE depends on the expertise of the developer.
I've been so addicted to this game on my PS4 that I'm not even sure it's a good idea for me to get it on my Switch. I'd probably try to play it on my drive to work.
@ricklongo too true, I've nearly bought it 4 times over the last month, I get the sneaking suspicion this will hit PSN+ or GWG just before the Switch launch
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Considering it was originally made by one person, on PC, it's plausible that handing the reigns over to others for the port could result in something being overlooked in terms of debugging and testing.
I've been putting off buying the game since it was announced for Wii U. Bring it as soon as possible please.
I've been so tempted to buy this for my PS4, but I knew I wanted to play it on my Switch to fill the void until Animal Crossing for Switch.
Good to hear. I don't care about release dates anymore. There are so many games already out and even after 6 months I already have a switch backlog, to go with my PS4 and 3ds backlogs. So I'll get any game if it's good after it releases on the system I want to play it on, and lots I wait for a sale as well.
@Captain_Gonru according to the dev (via an article) it's the reason why the switch version isn't out yet, the Switch will be debuting the mode.
Imma still buy on Switch. Too busy for too many games anyways
It'll be too late for the majority by then - momentum is everything.
Looking forward to living my alterego life of farming and interacting with NPCs.
They said summer, but I think we can forget about that. Bummer. Guess it's taking longer because of the thing that I'm not interested in...multiplayer.
Luckily, Sonic Mania is awesome and I just bought a new video card so I can't really complain.
I bought this on PC just before it was announced for the Switch. I've been holding off on playing it so I don't get too invested into my PC file by the time the Switch version comes out. Really looking forward to this releasing on the Switch so I can play it without hesitation.
I respect this decision. I'd rather wait for a release date I can depend on than get a tentative date that is likely to change.
I wish more developers would do this.
What I will say, is this: GIMME GIMME GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!!
I can't wait. It's one of the reasons to own a Switch.
I've put well over 100 hours into this on Steam. Still a day one buy for me. I mean, multiplayer alone is enough to pick this back up but it's just one of those games that you'll love to revisit time and time again.
I'm excited to get this on the Switch. But seriously, if Rune Factory 5 were to get announced at some point soon here (no evidence such a thing is happening mind you), then I wouldn't even bother with Stardew Valley and just way for RF5 instead because that serious is by far my favorite when it comes to these RPG/Farm Simulators. As it is, I look forward to Re:Legend, which looks a bit like an RF kind of game in the genre. But that's an unproven game, so I'm still going to get Stardew Valley at this point, and will likely give that game a chance as it becomes more realized in time.
Really want this ! Have missed animal crossing after putting my 3ds to retirement
If you asked me 2 months ago I would have told you I'm buying this day one. If you asked me a month ago I would have told you that I may pick it up within month of release. Now? As someone who owns the game on steam I don't really care anymore to be honest. I look at the game and I see it next to games like Sonic Mania and Slime San. Two games I still haven't gotten yet, and are two new experiences that I feel will give me a lot of enjoyment. If there was a physical edition however, then this comment would be completely different.
To those who haven't had the chance to play it themselves. This game is exploding with content, and I hope you have as much as you can with it!
good for them
Its been said many time before but the support for switch is amazing from indies. Despite slow support from big developers. I am running out money there just so many enticing indie games. The indies are definitely one of switches saving grace!
I can wait; release it when it's ready.
Oh the suspense! I have been waiting for the switch release. It's probably going to be more expensive than the steam version which conflicts me so much. Probably going to snap this up on day 1 though.
I want this I want this. But please Dont be too pricey...
Still waiting, ive had chance to buy it on steam sales for along-time. Always wanted it on the Switch since i knew that was an option.
They did announce a date, it was 'summer.' It's the end of August.
I feel it goes without saying that they shouldn't have announced a quarterly window at all considering that Severed released a week or so ago without delays and without having to be pre-announced for forever.
Early 2018, I guess?
