A new TV commercial for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has just gone live in Japan and it contains the usual mixture of sweeping scenery, epic set-pieces and action-packed gameplay.
It also features a pretty juicy reveal which hasn't been seen in any other footage so far, so here's another spoiler warning.
It features a massive dragon swooping over the battlefield.
We'd normally consider this to be quite a big spoiler - hence our warnings above - as dragons aren't a common sight in Zelda titles. However, Nintendo of America clearly doesn't feel the same way:

What are your theories on this mythical beast? Could it be a major character in the story, or a boss battle? A descendent of Volgavia? Let us know your predictions by posting a comment.

I heard about there being a spoiler in this. I won't be watching it. Feel like I might need to abandon the internet shortly before the game's release for fear of having the game spoiled before I get to play it.
I hope we can ride it!
Ha! SPOILER WARNING, then a second later tell you it? Cheers for that
... friend or foe?
Slightly off topic but has anyone seen any Switch ads on uk tv?
Dragon's are in a lot of the Zelda games. I am having a hard time thinking of a Zelda game that didn't have a dragon. Maybe Majora's Mask?
@Bunkerneath The tagline says it's a spoiler as well.
You clicked.
@BigBadJohn I saw one last night, I think on Channel 4.
As for the video, I'm sure Game Explain will produce another hour-long video with analysis
@Bunkerneath Yes... that's how spoiler warnings work. Besides, the title wasn't enough for you?
I get why people are sensitive over spoilers, but use your common sense next time.
@BigBadJohn last night, during The Walking Dead!
@BigBadJohn no. I've only seen it online and YouTube advertisement
To be honest I think it looks more like a flaming thin version of Levias. But either way, this is dope
Idk, usually I don't care about spoilers, but for this game I do.
But this seems more of a tease than a spoiler. It intrigues me...
I was very afraid of clicking the link or watching the ad, but then I thought - whatever, there's is way they would put a big spoiler in a TV ad, right? Aaaand, I was right. I really don't see how this is a spoiler? It's just a dragon. Could be a boss, as there are always weird or crazy boss designs, could be a ridable companion, or friend. Hyrule was sure to see a dragon sooner or later so no surprises here
Everyone's been assuming that the 'divine beasts' referenced in the tapestry are the four giant guardians... but could it actually be that this is one of the divine beasts?
@Damo I COULDNT HELP IT! Too weak willed.
I need this game now!
It looks exactly like Volga's spawn
@Bunkerneath Precisely!
@Damo - Perhaps next time just leave the spoiler in the video, rather than describe it in the one line between your warning and the video. By the time I read the bold spoiler warning, my peripheral vision couldn't help but scan the word in the next line.
@Sakura Actually, the GameXplain guys have decided not to analyze anything since the Switch Presentation's trailer. They don't want to spoil the game for themselves or other people.
Obviously it's a normal enemy and they're everywhere
@BigBadJohn London Underground had Screen Ads all up and down the escalators yesterday!
Tbh i don't see this as a massive spoiler like some people (though I can understand how you would). To me Zelda is a fantasy game so a dragon isn't exactly out of place. I'm hoping that this is a shrine boss, and that there are many other bosses we haven't seen yet!
Am I the only one that finds the bird shaped airship before the "spoiler" more intriguing?
Aaaaaghhhh oh noooooo the game is spoiled for me forever now there's no point in playing it anymore because the surprise is ruined how could you do this to me Damo etc etc /monotone
@BigBadJohn There was a 1-2 Switch ad yesterday on ITV.
I just assumed, if there's a spoiler in the trailer, that the article was going to introduce the trailer without describing the spoiler. My own fault for risking it though
Really not that big of a spoiler.
Just please don't post any spoilers for 1-2-Switch.
Does it not look like Link is about to transform into something right before the trailer ends? I thought that was going to be the spoiler, and then I read on and saw they were really only talking about the dragon.
Wow. The great Valoo got ripped.
A reveal? Yes. Spoiler? Nah.
@BigBadJohn Yes I did last night for 1-2 Switch, not the switch itself. It looked more like a board game ad than a new console.
Now i want to know even more about this game!
The dragon doesnt seem like a villain?
The wait until March 3 is going to be torturous.
"Volgavia"? C'mon nintendo life, get it right.
I wonder if it really is a massive reveal?
I've seen a ton of switch commercials on Cartoon Network and Comedy Central.....or I guess tons of the Superbowl ad specifically
That's no spoiler. That's awesome. Give me more.
Could be the dragons from Skyward Sword
Really looks like a new form of Volvagia, which makes it seem like maybe all the bosses don't share that one thing in common that the Game Informer playthrough seemed to suggest (leaving this vague for those avoiding spoilers.)
Unless this is secretly a Loftwing or a second playable character is riding it, I don't really see this as a spoiler. Technically it's never-before-seen content, but nothing immediately recognizable as anything special.
I didn't read the article. I didn't read any comments. I don't want a spoiler. I comment here as a place holder, after I actually play BOTW I intend to come here and see the reactions that are posted and see how they mirror my own.
What's with the timer on the top left?
Anyway, it's an official commercial before the game releases so I don't consider this a spoiler. It doesnt reveal who the character is or how they're involved in the plot.
the trailer is in 1080 and 60fps does that mean they have bumped up the game like they said they were trying to do?
I don't mind seeing a dragon or any other creature. I actually like seeing overworld stuff like that!
If a spoiler is story related I will definitly retreat, press the off button on my pc if necessary... Maybe next time you could warn us whether it's story related, I would certainly appreciate that!
Yeah, not cool for NoA's account to post a screenshot of it. This was my initial fear when Twitter added photos that were visible in the timeline to posts, that spoiler pics from TV/films/games would be posted and shared without warning. Who remembers when you had to view the tweet to see the pic that was posted?! Seems a long time ago now (probably is)...I guess we wouldn't have all the memes if they never made that change though!
Being a fantasy game, I don't think a dragon being in Zelda is any way even a spoiler, but instead should be something expected as a possible inclusion with any fantasy game. Plus come on it's coming from a commercial not like if you were living in japan you'd probably even avoid this one. I don't like to be spoiled, but I don't fear something like a commercial to really spoiler things.
My dilemma is whether to wait til I can afford a Switch or Wii U it. The Wii U version might have frame rate issues.
@Nintenjoe64 the Switch version isn't worth the $360 investment IMO. Maybe if there was like... even 2 more games coming out on launch day that I'd be remotely interested in. Maybe.
Even then, the 3rd party support situation for Switch looks to be much of the same of what happened to Wii U after the first 2 years.
Not a big spoiler but intriguing nevertheless/
This is hardly a spoiler, unless you're the type of person who considers every film and game trailer as a spoiler.
Does Dragon Roost Island ring a bell?
Wasn't it /Volvagia?/
@BigBadJohn Yeah one last night at around 6.45 came on while the gf was watching hollyoaks was the best thing for that half hour
@Tingle_The_Great We have Korok and Rito, so why not, right?
This is not first dragon in Zelda game.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE For real, I'm sick of the damn spoilers. All I had to read was the word dragon and I knew it was Volvagia.
0:36 Link suicidal?
Wow, I can't believe Ganondorf is Link's father, Hyrule was Earth all along, Zelda is a replicant, and it was all a dream inside a dream since Link's totem never stops spinning.
@GrayFox-Bez
I don't see it. what time stamp?
EDIT: Nevermind. 22 seconds in. I thought you meant right before
I wonder if it belongs to the same family as Volvagia.
http://zelda.wikia.com/wiki/Volvagia
Volga? (I've only ever played Hyrule Warriors...)
@speedracer216 looks interesting. I think it's one of the Rito flying there. I'm guessing a town of sorts, if not a dungeon/exploration space. Yourself?
this game is the adult part of OOT of another time line
I think the bigger reveal is that Falco is in Zelda Breath of the Wild... (49 seconds in)
is this really a spoiler???!!!!!!
That Giant Sky Ship seemed why more spoiler like to me.
@Bunkerneath Well, they put "spoiler warning" in the subtitle, so hopefully anyone who actually wants to avoid spoilers would see that and avoid clicking on this story.
"We'd normally consider this to be quite a big spoiler - hence our warnings above - as dragons aren't a common sight in Zelda titles."
Nope. Not at all. That Valoo guy? Just a giant gecko. Faron, Eldin, and Lanayru from Skyward Sword? Giant robotic snake constructs with limbs. And that Volvagia dude? Clearly a baby snake who enjoys hammer time.
@gcunit
I highly agree with this.
@Damo, next time, leave the spoilers for the video please. The community will thank you.
@Grandpa_Pixel I don't remember any dragons in Ocarina of Time, but the only other Zelda game that I've played all the way through is Twilight Princess and I definitely remember a dragon in it.
@BigBadJohn
Yeah! Last night on the walking dead! I was like omg!
not a big spoiler stop complaining
@Koudai1979 Volvagia in the Fire Temple
I am a HUGE Zelda fan and greatly looking forward to this game. However, can someone please explain to me how having a clip of a dragon in the trailer is a spoiler...?
Am I remembering wrong, or weren't there 2 dragons or very dragon like creatures in Skyward Sword?
The one in the lake (Faron) you must help and the one in the sky that gives you the speed boss-run challenges?

Didn't the original Legend of Zelda have Aquamentis and another three headed dragon?
@Action51
And the one in the volcano. Oh, and the three-headed dragon is Gleeok.
@UmbreonsPapa Honestly it's been a couple of decades since I last played that game. I remember a boss fight where you through bombs into a giant lizard's mouth.
@gatorboi352 im not buying early due to money and lack of a hands down, must-own exclusive game. Wii U had problems but I justified the launch day price with the amount of fun I got out of it.
I'm quietly confident in Switch to get decent year one and lifetime support, the optimistic side of me has noticed Switch advertising on relevant tv programs which never happened with Wii U. I'm not saying Switch is going to suddenly become the smash hit Nintendo need but it's definitely looking better than Wii U in terms of coverage and public perception. I'm not expecting a massive hit but I'm expecting a reasonably well supported console. If all Nintendo games for the next 5 years are on Switch, that can't be a bad thing.
@Nintenjoe64 while i agree that Switch won't be as bad as Wii U (that would be detrimental), I just can't see this Switch, the current iteration, lasting 4-5 years in today's market.
Nintendo needs to be smart and release updated iterations of Switch (like they've done with their portables) every two years or so to remain relevant.
Not as big a reveal as that alien tentacle monster...
OMG!!! A dragon in a Zelda game! I am so spoiled!!!
I would go with Volgavia but could be wrong tho.
