@rainbowtick Clockwork Knight! What a gem. I recall playing Clockwork Knight 2 for the first time on the Saturn "bootleg" demo disc that either came with the system or was part of a magazine... you just unlocked a slew of memories for me there
I was excited for it before, but now I'm hyped. My son will love this probably more than I will. If it comes out on PS5 that will likely be the platform of choice, unless the game runs well on Switch... which given the recent slate of released games doesn't seem likely.
First of all it isn't going to be called Switch 2. It is going to be called one of the following possible names: Super Switch, Switch XL, Switch Plus Rewards Program, or Cat-o-Nine-Tails. Obv.
@Kiwi_Unlimited Well I personally think the obsession was worth it. It was a ground-breaking game, showed that 3d platformers were feasible, and established 3d movement conventions that are used to this day. Anti-matter has me blocked, apparently, so I never saw his post, but historically I don't take his opinion all that seriously.
Mario 64 was and is an incredible game, and this GBA version is a technical feat, if not a visual acid trip.
I don't mean to hate on this game but like... why are iso-racers still a thing? I get motion sick watching this stuff. I didn't like them back when I had the SEGA channel circa 1994, and I had the option to play something like this or a pseudo-3d game like Road Rash. These aren't in fashion any more for many reasons, the biggest of which is that controlling them is an exercise in frustration. Rant over.
@Anguspuss @ozwally They heard Switch is the bank from which all devs and publishers can withdraw, so it would have been foolish NOT to port it. Not that it will sell well, but with a huge install base and folks who might not know any better... They'll make money for sure.
I tried Lucah boaw, but couldn't get far without a headache. It's super hard to get past those visuals, which is a shame because in still frames it looks fascinating.
But really, "all the previously released DLC" isn't that just one character class? This feels like a desperate gambit on behalf of the developer to tap into the "money fountain" that is the switch. I don't think this will work out, though. I have it on PS5 (originally PS4) and it doesn't run super smooth there, the gameplay is repetitive and the hand-to-hand combat is unsatisfying. The gunplay is loose. The aesthetic is neat, I think that's all it ever has had going for it.
I own only one physical game release - Returnal for ps5. Everything on Switch is digital and most everything on PlayStation is digital. I'll probably regret that decision in a decade...
This was no contest. Between this and the OG NES Ninja Turtles game, I can't decide which one I liked more. This was more fun, and obviously better looking... but the original was so (almost unfairly) tough and hard-edged. Plus the cool overworld map. Hard to make a choice.
I loved rocket knight on genesis, but as a kid couldn't really get the controls. They didn't feel intuitive to me at the time. Guess I'll have to give it another shot.
@aaronsullivan Too true, too true. Perspective prevents Zelda from getting the Metroidvania moniker, even though traversal and access to regions are completely locked behind certain items/abilities.
Which of the two first Zelda games did you prefer? Personally, I always loved Zelda 2 more than the OG, even back in the late 80s.
Obv the original game, duh. Minimal story to HAVE to stick to, gives the movie producers a lot of freedom while simultaneously a lot of identifiable, classic Zelda monsters and gadgets.
This is a disappointment for SSBU fans... I just picked up the Splatoon 3 Oled, which looks awesome and makes this look even worse than it already does by comparison.
@Tyaku For real they could easily localize the PS2 versions of those. My goodness.
Also while we're in the announcement-dream-guessing-game mentality...
Panzer Dragoon Saga, Skies of Arcadia, Burning Rangers, Nights into Dreams+Christmas sampler, Mr. Bones, Powerstone 1&2, and OG Jet Set Radio would be nice...
Zelda TotK is not enough as a standalone game, it really is- despite its size- just BotW prime plus rewards program. It does a lot of like... kind of new stuff, but not enough like groundbreaking stuff as its direct predecessor. So no, shouldn't be GotY.
FFXVI is the pick for me. First FF I've been excited to play since XII.
It's hard for me to really dig into... it isn't as good as Breath of the Wild by virtue that it isn't a standalone story that you could jump into without having played the first. Even Majora's Mask and The Adventure of Link didn't really require you to know anything at all about the prior entry. Just feels like BotW Expansion Pass prime Plus rewards program.
@mariomaster96 The darker tone is definitely noticeable. It's like they took Vagrant Story/FFXII and thought "We could do that," but then watched Game of Thrones before they started.
Japanese one wins if only because of my love for the artist and Vampire Hunter D. Took me decades to realize there was a reason why the artwork looked so familiar...

@Yosher Yoshi's enemies get turned into eggs, similar to the way depicted in the deleted scene from "Alien (1979)". It's painful and completely robs any sense of dignity from the victim.

Re: Random: Stop-Motion Animation Shows Sephiroth Playing Basketball With Kirby
I was expecting red xiii or someone to get the rebound. This was even funnier though.

Re: RetroArch Is Now On The iOS App Store
lol Dreamcast cores not included? Yeah I'll stick with retroarch on laptop then. No problems there.

Re: Random: Zelda Movie Director (Kind Of) Doesn't Want To Reveal His Favourite Game In The Series
@NinChocolate Agreed. Would have been classic, yet esoteric, pleasing both the purists and the weirdos (like me).

Re: Upcoming JRPG 'Lost Hellden' Mixes Stunning Visuals With Music By Final Fantasy XII Composer
Looks dope, though I'll probably pick it up on PS5 if there are graphical compromises here.
Re: Freedom Planet 2 Locks In An April Release Date On Switch
@Ryu_Niiyama That was my reaction to the release of Zelda totk. Same here, too.

Re: Review: 9 Years Of Shadows (Switch) - Unique Ideas Elevate This Scrappy Metroidvania
@aaronsullivan If only I had a PC I have a mac for my job, and I can't do a whole lot with it. Boo.
Re: Frogwares' Legal Dispute With Nacon Over 'The Sinking City' Is Finally Done
@duerer Agreed on pacing. The story gets lost in the tedium of open-world trappings.
That said, the game genuinely messes with me. I can't play it for long, especially alone at night.

Didn't Square Enix dive hard into NFTs, too?
Re: Review: 9 Years Of Shadows - Unique Ideas Elevate This Scrappy Metroidvania
@aaronsullivan So really the genre should be called "Metreldavania"
edit: Also Castlevania 2 did it best. No handholding, multiple endings with no warning, and no pity.
Re: Action RPG With 'Overwhelmingly Positive' Reception Launches On Switch This Week
I was thinking "this looks decent" until the uhhhhhh jiggle-spell-moment... I don't know if I can take any of it seriously now.
Still might get it on a sale, I dunno. Just felt gratuitous.

Just wait for a steep sale for the 3 best games and save like $45
Re: Sonic Superstars Will Apparently Run At "A Smooth 60FPS" On Switch
@mikegamer You're correct. It WAS 20 years ago, though. Came out in '03. Now I feel old.

Wasn't Sonic Adventure 60 fps like 20 years ago?
Re: Random: AMOLED 3DS Concept Shown Off At Tokyo Game Show 2023

Re: Review: Blasphemous 2 - Bloody, Brutal, And Even More Brilliant Than Its Predecessor

Re: 8-Bit NES-Inspired Platformer 'Bat Boy' Is Part Shovel Knight, Part Mega Man

Re: Post-Apocalyptic RPG Biomutant Is Officially Coming To Switch
LOL like this would run well on Switch. I had it on PS4, now PS5... it was not good on PS4. It's passable on PS5. Good luck THQ nordic...

If so does that make this the LOTR you have at home?
