Re: Konami Teases New Game In Beloved Series For Tokyo Game Show

Yeah why would they make a new Castlevania, it's not like there was a hit Netflix series that boosted interest in the series. Or Silent Hill. Nobody wants a new Silent Hill.

*** In all fairness, I don't want a new Silent Hill either. I just want the original 4 playable on modern systems without serious graphical defects.

@Crono1973 Yes, it is. Gaming news/reviews sites are innocent fun at first, but are a part of the advertising machine. There are many sites I used to frequent, but have deleted from my bookmarks because all they did was make me want stuff I didn't realize I wanted.

Fortunately, stuff that goes on "nerd shelves" or whatever people want to call it hold no interest for me. Tchotchkes, the lot of them. Bought at a premium, collects dust for a few years and eventually ends up in a landfill (or the ocean) at some point. I blame the Youtube/Instagram influencer community for this widespread interest... you see people's backgrounds coated in your childhood, and think "Oh that would look so cool in my room/apartment/living room." Maybe it would, but you know what would also look good? A few thousand dollarbucks unspent in your account.

Yes I ranted... tl;dr Nintendolife tries to sell you stuff on behalf of others, in addition to their more editorial work.

Re: Sega's Latest Mini-Console Is Cute, But Reviewers Are Complaining Of Bad Lag

@NinChocolate Bruh nostalgia IS the money right now... Stranger Things, funko pop, the entire Star Wars franchise re-re-reemergence... Geriatric millennials like myself are spending our money or crap we wanted as kids but didn't have the money to get.

$180 for this piece of junk, and you're saying there is no market for a Saturn or Dreamcast mini? Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, or Shining Force 3 ALONE would sell the Saturn mini, regardless of whatever the rest of the library they should slap in there.

Niche nostalgia my buttocks.

Re: Rumour: A New Crash Bandicoot Game Could Be Revealed Very Soon

Calling it now- they go full Sonic Unleashed with Crash in a battle-royal (limited to 4 players) where Crash and friends airdrop into an open-world map filled with side quests, collectibles and tokens that can be exchanged for real world money that can be spent only on NFTs via Activision's online hub when you provide them with a valid email and 2-step authentication, as well as your firstborn child. But the (VR only) demo is free for the first hour.

Re: Sega Has Considered Dreamcast & Saturn Mini But Is Worried About Extreme Costs

@Strictlystyles I don't have a good computer, I have a macbook.

Maybe they should be targeting 30-somethings like me with dispensable income who aren't interested in DIYing their way through either obtaining or building a rig that can play emulation for 25 year old software. There is a ton of us. Probably more than those willing to pay "big money" (again, whatever the hell that means) for reprinted games or new functioning hardware. Just check the NES classic sales.

Anyway, I'm not into this for an argument. I'd just like to play my favorites- games I played on the original hardware for 20 years before I couldn't anymore- and not have it face the same fate the originals had done. Digital backups are what we as a community should be focused on- to preserve media and the creations that many put their souls into for perpetuity. Especially for games that have no original source code available (Panzer Dragoon Saga, I'm looking at you). Physical copies are great for the collectors/hoarders but for those of us who just want to play they hold little value.

Re: Sega Has Considered Dreamcast & Saturn Mini But Is Worried About Extreme Costs

@Strictlystyles CDs delaminate, friend.

Also I seriously JUST mentioned an issue with emulation regarding Burning Rangers that makes the game quite literally unplayable. I could also mention...

Record of Lodoss War crashing after first save point (DC emulation)
Multiple sound effects causing ringing/chirping/distortion in Nights into Dreams (Saturn emulation)
Video/Sound sync issues in FMV sequences in various games (Saturn emulation)

I could give more, but I haven't played the other roms I've got recently. I'm certain I could find more than "15%" whatever the hell that number means.

Re: Sega Has Considered Dreamcast & Saturn Mini But Is Worried About Extreme Costs

@Strictlystyles Speak for yourself I'd love a Saturn mini... the only way I can play Panzer Dragoon Saga, or Nights into Dreams anymore is via emulation, and it's dodgy at best. Burning Rangers fire does't even show as visible. Ruins the game.

All games I owned back in the day, when my Saturn was still kicking. Then it kicked the bucket, and I sold them, and I got sad.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 26th)

aznable

@moodycat Understandable. I don't think you're wrong with your observations.

DS2 was spread thin, that's for sure. Too many cooks in the kitchen, I believe. The world felt disjointed and while there were a few interesting locals- Majula, the frozen city, the throne of want- most of them felt second-rate to DS1's memorable, unified world. I loved the torch mechanic, though.

Bloodborne is super fast compared to the DS series, which was a huge adjustment. The gameplay isn't what got me to love it though- it was the (SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't played it yet stop reading) change from Victorian werewolf horror to Lovecraftian cosmic horror- which I didn't expect at ALL. It was great. Plus, I started playing the game during March 2020- the very start of the pandemic- so I felt empowered by kicking the crap out of a "plague."
