Pixel art, deck building, procedurally generated, female protagonist- it’s hitting almost all the trends. Only things missing are “-roidvania” or “rogue” suffixes or prefixes. With a studio like Platinum, which has made some incredible modern titles, how can a game this simple take so long to come out? And why not go fully modern in its creation?

@blindsquarel $150 or not, I budget my discretionary spending and have lines for specific uses. I had dismissed the OLED when I first read about it, so it hasn't been on the radar. Other things- like a new hifi- have been, and they require real time to save. I appreciate the recommendation, though.

Didn’t get an N64 until 2001. It was easy to find at that point, and came with Podracer. That, and Zelda OoT floored me after having only the Genesis and Saturn til that point.

After the fluidity of HLD and Blasphemous, I can’t go back to main character sprite animations where you can count the frames in real time. Not that this looks bad, per se, but given what is out there? The retro-pixel-art method has been refined. This just doesn’t stand out to me. I’m well aware I’m not the first person to say this about a retro-ish game. Doesn’t make the observation any less valid.

I’d be down for blacksmith of the sand kingdom, but it rarely seems to be included in these Kemco sales. It’s the only game they’ve made that comes close to interesting me.

I think the hot wheels game may have beaten them to it?

@Kiwi_Unlimited The arcade version of altered beast (as featured in the Sonic genesis/mega drive collection, but absent from the genesis/mega drive collection on switch) played and looked better. It was the definitive version of the game.

Though tbh tchotchke stuff like this kills me on the inside... i feel like the only purpose stuff like this serves is to fill the backgrounds of YouTube videos for game reviewers and stuff. I don’t know if it’s just my switch or not but this update absolutely exploded load times. Like a solid minute +. I hope if it’s not just me that they patch this out because it makes the game much less fun in short sessions.

NGL that 3DS one looks more enjoyable to me. I've tried getting into DQ11 on PS4 several times... I just can't care. The more mature art style doesn't match the content of the game, imho. That disjointedness makes it hard to invest.
