Update #2 [Wed 18th Sep, 2024 03:00 BST]:
It's been confirmed a physical version of Raiden NOVA will be released for the Switch. It will be arriving at some point in November this year. Once again, the digital version of the game will arrive on the Switch eShop on 31st October 2024.
Update [Sat 14th Sep, 2024 02:45 BST]:
Following the recent ESRB rating, UFO Interactive has now confirmed Raiden Nova will arrive locally as a Switch eShop release on 31st October 2024. This lines up with the Japanese release, but there's no mention of a physical release (via Gematsu). If we hear any further updates, we'll let you know.

Original article [Sun 8th Sep, 2024 02:55 BST]:
The Switch already has an extensive library of shoot 'em up games, and it looks like another one could be on its way to the west in the near future.
As highlighted by Gematsu, a Switch rating for Raiden Nova has been spotted on the ESRB. This game was previously confirmed for an October 2024 release in Japan. According to this latest update, a local version will be published by UFO Interactive Games.
As for the game rating, it's 'E' for everyone and contains fantasy violence. Here's the full summary:
"This is a space shooter in which players control a small spaceship that constantly shoots through levels of enemies and bosses. From a top-down vertical-scrolling perspective, players shoot lasers, projectiles, and bombs in order to defeat enemies. Action is fast-paced, with frequent light effects and bombs that result in large, screen-shaking explosions. Boss battles involve more protracted combat, with larger enemies and dozens of projectiles flying across the screen."
There are already multiple Raiden games on the Switch. Here's a bit about this particular spin-off allowing you to customise your ship, level up and use all sorts of power-ups to enhance your runs.
"Raiden, the landmark 2D shoot ’em up game, is reborn as a twin-stick 2D shoot ’em up game! Dodge attacks coming from all directions at 360 degrees, and annihilate hordes of enemies!"

Where is raiden dx hamster arcade archives.???
Wow, this looks pretty cool!
Not as thrilled as I would be with a Raiden VI announcement but I'll be picking this up still for sure.
Ooo hello! Looks like a bit of a departure. Fingers crossed
The future has come for Time Pilot
Looks great, but I already get confused enough with single-direction shmups.
I will keep my eye out for this one. I like the series.
never a fan of the 'upgrade ship' mechanic, but looks pretty good tbh
They're actually aren't too many great twin stick shooters, aside from a few outliers it's a fairly new genre, so I'm always excited if there's a good one potentially.
Not particularly interested in this personally, but it looks pretty cool and I hope it will be good for those who'd like to get it!
Sooooo....is this like...a Survivors game then? Did we ever get VI? Could've sworn that was announced years ago. lol
I need more allowance! Yodel ley eehoo!
Please. Raiden Fighter Aces remake. please.
Was just about to post the same as above; Raiden Fighters Aces are the real kings of the series.
I miss the cinematic shmups of the early 00's. Silpheed 2: The Lost Planet, Ikaruga, Panzer Dragoon Orta, R-Type Final... I know there's R-Type Final 2 (and 3), but they've dropped the spectacle that the original did so well.
If anybody knows of another that fits that bill, please let me know.
@NeonMullet IIRC, just buy a JPN eShop card off of PlayAsia, make a JPN account on Switch and add the funds. M2 ShotTriggers historically only publishes in Japan, so I would not hold my breath for any localized versions.
Big fan of the Raiden series and this looks great. Pleased to see the Purple Wangy Thing of Doom (tm) present. I'll go for a physical JPN release rather than chance waiting for a physical release here and the inevitable involvement of scammers LRG.
Anyone know current Switch games like this? I always seem to miss them but would really like to play some.
Really hope the Switch can handle this in 60FPS. If not I'll await a PC release.
@sixrings my favourite raiden! play it a lot on my miyoo mini..
@NeonMullet the region switch is easy and highly recommended
I can’t… October is putting a hurting on my wallet. To the wishlist it goes.
@NeonMullet
You can buy NA localised m2shotriggers ports of ketsui and dangun feveron...on ps4. They must have decided the sales didn't justify the cost, they haven't localised any since as far as I know. Not Nintendo's fault.
DDP DOJ is definitely worth the inconvenience of creating a JPN account.
@Lynox5 this is my twinstick collection

@Deev 99 percent of twin stick shooters have been made since the mid 2000's, there were a few before then, and most were robotron.
Strong, strong possibility of purchase for me.
@NinChocolate I wasn't a fan of the twin-stick idea, but now that you frame it as Time Pilot, I'm way more interested.
@trcsf totally!
