Re: Nintendo Download: 28th May (North America)

TreesenHauser

Not download, but I have the physical version of Xenoblade on the way. Today, the BioShock Collection arrived! I'm especially excited for BioShock because I remember back in the day, all the talk surrounding a Wii port of the first game and how Ken Levine himself was interested, but had to pass because the quality of the game would have taken a hit. Then, BioShock Infinite never got a Wii U port; though it would have been nice I understand why. I always said that I'd get it Day 1 if the Collection ever came to the Switch, and today I was a man of my word 😂

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On Pokémon Sword And Shield

TreesenHauser

Long time Pokémon fan here. Like, I still remember when I received my VHS from Nintendo Power that was pretty much a sales pitch for Pokémon Red/Blue, the toys and the show. It pulled me in and Pokémon has been a part of my life since.

I've been following Sword/Shield's news since the initial announcement and reveal. I remember during the Nintendo Treehouse presentation when they brought up how not all the Pokémon would make it. I knew from that moment this game would be contentious.

Regardless, I still went for it on Friday. And for all the hate, the flaws, and negativity swirling around this game, I'm still enjoying it. Though I've loved most every prior Gen and entry (IV and V didn't get a lot of my attention at the time because the DS didn't interest me until the 3DS released) I never considered myself a "hardcore" Pokémon player. In spite of my experience, I was always more casual. Still am.

The presentation is nice. The Wild Area feels like a small window of what I've always wanted the Pokémon franchise to eventually become. The new Gen VIII creature designs are cool. I'm even digging some of the music and visuals. I'm not terribly interested in Dynamax or Gigantimax, and in ways I wish we could just keep Mega Evolutions, but I can see them wanting to try something new.

With all my things I like about the game, I do understand why those on the other side find these games repulsive, and have such hostility towards Game Freak. Something about the game feels... I dunno. I guess my best description is when I played No Man's Sky for the first time. Some of the things that drew me into it were present, but other things were missing that shouldn't have been and the whole experience felt like a missed opportunity. The only difference is that I never finished No Man's Sky (not yet), and I intend on finishing Shield.

With all of the complaints said, the one I'm not getting so far is the one about the game being short. I've put over four hours in so far and I only just recently got my first badge. I've been having no qualms with taking my time, looking for hidden items, seeing what Pokémon I can find, etc. I'm doing my best not to rush it.

TL, DR; I'm personally digging Sword and Shield so far as a long-time, casual Pokémon enthusiast, but I acknowledge the game's (sometimes-massive) flaws and get why people aren't liking it.

Re: Ninja Thinks Pro Players And Streamers Who Cheat Should Be Treated Differently

TreesenHauser

LOL. No, Ninja. No double standards here. If you cheat in an online game, you're cheating. Sugarcoat that anyway you'd like, that's exactly what it is. If you really wanna 'hack' or cheat, there are tons of offline games ripe for the taking, and several amazing content creators already do that. Take a cue from one of them and have fun.

Besides, sounds like he's just being defensive in case he's caught ever cheating.

Re: Poll: Have Your Joy-Con Been Drifting?

TreesenHauser

I've owned my Switch since about a month after launch. I've owned two sets of joycon including the set that came with my console, and never once have I experienced this issue. I'm sorry to anyone that has. It sounds like a pain.

Super Mario Maker 2! Even though there are plenty of things I have to get used to about it, I still think I'll have as much fun with this one as I did with the original.

And during breaks from that, I'll be playing some N64 games since I finally found an N64 for a decent price last week and got hooked up with both the Banjo games yesterday

I'm gonna be spending all of today doing some renovating and cleanup, so most of my gaming will be tomorrow. This past week I downloaded FFVII and Splatoon 2 so those will get most of my attention.

When my money situation is a bit better (decided to get a new PC yesterday) I'll buy Yoshi's Crafted World. I loved the demo!

Re: Limited Run Games Publishing Dragon's Lair Trilogy Physical Edition

TreesenHauser

@nate83km I have to agree with this comment. I made my first order with them, and it's been a disappointing journey. Was misled about when it would ship, then misled about the shipping method and speed. An order I made at the beginning of the month won't be here until next week, maybe. Disappointed and probably won't order through them again.

If others had positive LRG experiences, I'm glad for you, but this will be my first and last order through them.

When work isn't totally consuming my life, I'll be continuing my Master Mode run in Breath of the Wild. I'll probably continue with Earthbound at some point too since I began a new game on my SNES Classic. Otherwise... Smash Ultimate.

On a side note, I may also replay NSMBU on my Wii U because there's no way I'm repurchasing it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Christmas? (Special Edition)

TreesenHauser

I'll primarily be playing my usual Smash Ultimate and Zelda BoTW, with a dash of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for good measure. I'll be showing my cousin my Switch and he's into retro stuff so probably dabbling with some of the arcade downloads and retro compilations.

And, rumor has it I'm getting Starlink Battle for Atlas under the tree. 😉

Re: Video: Take A Look At New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe In This Introduction Trailer

TreesenHauser

It's the same thing I always see and then say... If you keep buying the Wii U ports, Nintendo will keep putting them out. With that said I'll take a hard pass on this one. I still have my WII U and I've played NSMBU and NSLU to death. I even bought NSLU as add-on content. I liked this game, but not enough to buy it a second time. I hope those that missed out on Wii U give it a chance though.

But yeah, I wouldn't call it 'lazy,' so much as I would call it an opportune cash grab. They know people are buying the ports, so they'll keep making them. If you're sick of them, then speak with your wallet.
