It's been a busy few months on the Switch with the recent release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! There's no sign of it slowing down, either. On 11th January next year, Nintendo will release New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. That's now less than a month away!
In preparation for this release, Nintendo's Japanese YouTube channel has uploaded an introduction trailer for this upcoming game that runs for nearly five minutes. While it's all in Japanese, there's enough on show to give you an idea of the game, if you did happen to miss the original outings on the Wii U. The new version of the game has more than 164 courses and features additional playable characters including Nabbit, Toadette and Peachette.
We also recently found out the digital version will take up just 2.5GB of space on the Switch. It's about 100MB more than the original Wii U games New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U combined together.
Take a look at the above trailer and tell us if you'll be adding this to your Switch library on release.

80 bucks for a 6 year old game...…...
But it's in Japanese.
How do we understand it?
I already got to know it 6 years ago
They’re running fast out of Wii U games to port to Switch. Hopefully this means more original software in the near future, and no more full-priced ports of five-year-old games.
I respect any Wii U owners that are salty about full priced ports. Admittedly having skipped the Wii U, I’m in the opposite camp and welcome them. I guess from a business standpoint and user base standpoint, the Switch, not the Wii U, is ironically where the Wii U’s library will shine.
$39.99 tops guys cmon!!
Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Looking forward to being able to play this game on the go soon. I hope that 3D World and Galaxy 1 + 2 come over eventually as well.
It's a good game, but I won't buy it again until it's at a bargain price. If they want to port Wind Waker HD over though, that would be a different story! (and TP HD too) Would love to retire the Wii U once and for all.
I'm not buying this game twice.
unless they add Bowsette, then I'll buy it thrice!
@thesilverbrick if only Nintendo would port the Virtual Console
@thesilverbrick - Come on man, we still got Xenblade X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions!
Don't belittle them now when we're finally getting to the good stuff.
But honestly; Watch them hop over the Wii and port some GCN games they didn't remaster for the 3DS yet. Heard there was a Mario Sunshine 3DS port they scrapped and moved the team to assets of Luigi's Mansion.
@joey302, I don't know where the 80.00 and 60.00 price quotes are from but it's only 39.99 at retail stores where I live in the US also., which is great if you have never played it, it is well worth that. There is a ton of gaming platform fun to be had between the combined two titles both are great and the added perks are nice now in saying that I totally get the anger over Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and the 59.99 price tag it has.
Would be nice if I could at least get a double-dip discount for already owning it on Wii U years ago. I'd be happy with something minor like 20% off, but come on Nintendo, at least acknowledge those of us that invested in you the first time around and are STILL willing to do so again for great games on a newer console. Wasn't that the whole point of having a unified "My Nintendo" account back in the 3DS/WiiU era?
Has the Luigi game too so I think its worth the asking price..
I'm actually looking forward to this seeing as I haven't played it in a long time, and I never finished Luigi U. I haven't played a 2D Mario in a long time either...Like others have said though, it'd be nice if Nintendo would throw a bone to those of us who actually bought the Wii U along with this game, but this being Nintendo, I'm not at all surprised.
It looks exactly the same
@MrMetroid *60
Should have been 3D World
@mist That will surely be happening when Super Mario Odyssey has had a bit more time to itself. Only turned a year old less than two months ago.
While they're two very different styles of 3D Mario platformers, they're both still 3D Mario platformers and I'm sure SMO has remained a strong sales performer this Christmas season.
I bet it happens at some point in 2019 or 2020. Super Mario 3D World is far too good of a game for it to remain a Wii U exclusive for long.
Is this fully playable with the NES style gamepad? And can you switch to Luigi U style physics for the New Super Mario Bros. U portion?
Those may be the only reasons I'd double dip here after 100% finishing the main game for both NSMBU and NSLU on the Wii U back in early 2014 after getting a Wii U for Christmas a year after launch.
I still need to go back and replay New Super Luigi U with the Mario style physics that I believe I unlocked after finishing it.
I already have my pre-order for Kingdom Hearts 3 in January.
If Nintendo wants me to spend another $60 in the same pay cycle - They need to do better than an overpriced old game.
@thesilverbrick
Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Xenoblade X, the Zelda remakes, Paper Mario, Yoshis Wooly World....
@Romeo-75
Yeah it can be had for £38 in the U.K. (from Smyths). This will sell very well.
https://youtu.be/BE_80ePKjfs?t=218 interested to see what this new "Coin Battle" mode is all about.
"Return to 2012 in 2019?"
Don't mind if I do. Life stinks for me nowadays compared to the glorious paradise that was 2012.
Videogame industry been porting games to each successive platform for decades with zero discount.
Gamers in 2018 upset and still surprised.
Totally get it but if it were me I just wouldn't care as I'd still own it.
Looking forward to some platforming fun with the other half.
It's definitely been polished a little but it still doesn't warrant the pricetag.
@Romeo-75 well ok then great $40 is fair! Yes I own on Wii U so very familiar with the game ...a great game deserving to be in the Switch library and be exposed to a way bigger fan base! I can also grab 20% off at Best Buy when It hits! 👍
@WaveBoy the last time i looked Luigu alone on WIIU cost more than this package. This version is definitely better looking that the wiiu version too. If you've never played them or don't already own them i would just go for this.
@WaveBoy yea I wouldn’t be surprised if they port em all including those NES REMIXES!! Lol
Just a thought, but... the NES Online controllers should work great with this
I’d love the entire Wii U library (including Wii Fit U) on the switch at a bargain price. Then I’d get rid of my Wii U for good.
I’d even like the silly little games like Nintendo Land.
I've never played the Luigi levels and Peachette is a great excuse to finally play as Peach. But, that price. That price. This game really doesn't deserve that price. I'm sorry.
@Shard1 Learn japanese. I do so, but I'm beginner yet, but I understand some of the text.
@IHateTombs,
No Nintendo have brought this game out so the 30 people that bought it already on the Wii U could buy it again.
Or Nintendo could be catering for the 25-30 million Switch users out there,and are trying to make money,they are truly evil.
I guess Nintendo wanted a first party game for the month of January. Not a bad game to get if you've never played it.
I just wonder what happend to Retro's game. Did it get sucked into a blackhole?
I'm ok with anything they want to port or re release. The Wii had me so disenfranchised with Nintendo I went n got a 360, now returning to Nintendo its obvious the difference is in the first party titles, and I've missed a lot
@Shard1
These Japanese intro videos are usually followed up pretty fast with an English version.
As for the game itself, NSMBU is a fantastic Mario title and I never got close to completing the Luigi DLC so I will probably pick it up. Plus the game has the added benefit of not having to play the game on the telly with it mirrored distractingly on the Wii U tablet screen with no option to turn it off. One example of the many missteps Nintendo took with the Wii U.
With the awesome D-pad of the Switch (sarcastic cough) it's gonna be a pleasure to play this game again... (sarcastic cough again) and to pay 6 times the price of the Wii U's version (sarcastic cough again and again).
Well done.
@thesilverbrick I am not looking forward to this port either.
But I would love for them to port over Super Mario 3D World!
I hate 2D Mario platformers, but I absolutely loved Super Mario 3D World. It was crazy fun, especially in Multiplayer.
One exception is Super Mario Maker. I really liked that one as well.
This is the only 2D Mario I haven't played, so will probably get it later when it's a bit cheaper
If you skipped the Wii u game. This is a must buy. One of the first games I bought on the U
@SBandy
Spot on, it was bizarre you couldn’t turn the screen off even when the game didn’t really use it. Not only that but it’ll be nice to play it in handheld on a proper screen instead of having it blur around in 480p.
@electrolite77
Yep it will look fantastic at native 720p.
@Cobalt The crappy d-pad of the pro controller combined with the many, many excellent 2D platformers on Switch makes an 8bitdo controller pretty much essential. I have an SF30Pro and I am very happy with it.
I’m all for Nintendo porting the majority of the Wii U’s first-party content over to Switch. Not only did far too few people get to experience these games the first time around, but in the absence of any Virtual Console and backwards compatibility, it’s the only way we can play them on Switch.
However, they really need to re-evaluate these prices! NSMBU and NSLU was great back in 2012, but no matter which way you cut it, they aren’t worth the full £49.99 ($59.99 in NA). Same goes for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Though what with the inclusion of the DLC packs and all-new battle modes, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe offered — and continues to offer – good value. But that’s my point; treat them on a case by case basis.
Having said aaaaaaall that, if Nintendo would kindly do us fans a solid and bring Wind Waker, Mario Maker and 3D World to Switch in 2019, I’ll gladly hand over any asking price they damn well like! What’s that, hypocrite? Me?! 😉
It’s two massive games that few people played due to a small consumer base. I get why Nintendo is double dipping.
Same people, same tired arguments as always. Personally I’m looking forward to it, never got it on the Wii U so it’s a brand new game to me.
It's the same thing I always see and then say... If you keep buying the Wii U ports, Nintendo will keep putting them out. With that said I'll take a hard pass on this one. I still have my WII U and I've played NSMBU and NSLU to death. I even bought NSLU as add-on content. I liked this game, but not enough to buy it a second time. I hope those that missed out on Wii U give it a chance though.
But yeah, I wouldn't call it 'lazy,' so much as I would call it an opportune cash grab. They know people are buying the ports, so they'll keep making them. If you're sick of them, then speak with your wallet.
@supermario4ever looks like you should focus on English first 😉
@WaveBoy I just use a Hori pad and it's fine for everything.
No more ports pretty please.
Super Mario 3D World was the superior Wii U title if they just wanted a quality game in a sloppy port. But the pricing model on these things needs major adjusting, especially if your My Nintendo account clearly shows you already own in on the previous system
Looks awesome. I skipped the Wii and WU so it's all new to me.
That price tagg though
If we're going back in time how about GOING BACK IN TIME TO PIKMIN 3??? I would love that. Sorry for caps but can we try something else apart from platformers?
$80 in Australia as well, which is how much the base game as at launch.
Nintendo certainly know their market. Budget price for the U.S., full price for everyone else.
I never understand fan boys of any system because these companies only care about your wallet. Nintendo is a business and if they can overcharge you, they will. If somebody only owns a Switch, they don’t get to decide between a Nintendo port and Red Dead 2 (even if they did it would be a inferior version of RD2).
Nintendo has a kiddie image, but they see their fans no differently than the other companies. Fans love Nintendo. Nintendo loves your money.
@JoakimZ said :"The crappy d-pad of the pro controller combined with the many, many excellent 2D platformers on Switch makes an 8bitdo controller pretty much essential. I have an SF30Pro and I am very happy with it."
That's great to know that a small company makes better products than the officials... o_O
Never played the original so I'm excited to pick this up, but will probably wait for a price drop.
@Painay
I agree and I never played that portion of the game either. So I get a portable version of the best 2D Mario game (IMO) and a game I never got while on the Wii U. I've double and tripled-dipped on worst games TBH.
The Shantae and the Pirates Curse (my 3rd time buying it, already have the 3DS and PC versions) physical was a total waste of my money compared to this purchase.
the more WiiU ports, the better! i cannot wait for this!
"Return to 2012 in 2019" with the game and with the price lol
@MrMetroid Pretty sure its 60 lol
I played this on Wii U and enjoyed it immensely. Worth the price tag if you haven’t played it especially as it includes Luigi U. I’m probably gonna pass on this like Captain Toad- they were a lot of fun but I still remember them now.
Think i will get this digitally as they're giving double the gold points for it if you pre-order it on the e-shop, i never got around to buying the Luigi U content.
To add to what another poster said, i would love Nintendo Land to be ported too, with a few new games added but more importantly, online multiplayer, that would seriously improve the game, it was a travesty it didn't have it on the Wii U.
I'd also love games like Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Paper Mario:Colour Splash to get another chance to sell, basically, i am loving all the Wii U ports and hope every exclusive it has comes to Switch eventually lol
@Silly_G It’s not a US budget price if it’s all the same cost considering conversions. Canadian and Australian dollars are “weaker” than US dollars. Euros are roughly equal. British pounds are “stronger” than US dollars. You probably make more at your job than someone doing the same job in the US.
I'm nit sure I need it with original SMB and SMB3 in the NES subscription... But this looks more gear towards actual multiplayer rather than taking turns in the old games.
I mean, I could finish three or four levels before my GF got to play as Luigi in SMB, and then she promptly died to the starting Goomba as she never played a Mario game before. That's not fun for her and I can see her confusion. At least with SMB3 there was a switch after every finished level as well so she could learn the game better. I think she'd appreciate this type of Mario and I'd feel more comfortable suggesting playing it as well.
What’s wrong with ports? To all of you who have a WiiU just ignore them.
I wonder where that unhealthy need to complain comes from. Obviously, this game is not targeted at you. Move on.
@Mailman It sold almost 6 million units
Thanks for that. Two years later and people are still saying Nintneod has to port games b/c NOBODY bought them on the Wii U with it's small install base. And they were saying that while the Switch install base was even smaller than Wii U. I think they said the same thing about MK8 which sold over 8 million.
Fine if people want ports, or don't want ports, but the whole "Wii U had no install base and no sales" narrative needs to go away. It's actual fake news. 10 games had over 2 million in sales, and DK was really close to that, thats not 30 (looking at you @johnvboy )
Mario Kart 8 - 8.42 million
Super Mario 3D World - 5.80 million
New Super Mario Bros. U - 5.77 million
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U - 5.35 million
Nintendo Land - 5.19 million
Splatoon - 4.94 million
Super Mario Maker - 4.00 million
New Super Luigi U - 3.04 million
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD - 2.28 million
Mario Party 10 - 2.19 million
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - 1.98 million
@needmorecowbell I mean, this isn't a full priced port though. It was $60 + $20 at launch on the Wii U. No more than Mario Kart 8 DX launched at full price, since it included the $20 DLC. And that's not even taking into account some retailers have this priced down at $40. That's half the original price!
@Mailman And with a higher install base it has the potential to sell more. Personally I’m not opposed to Nintendo making money. My point still stands. I said "few" because in comparison to both install base and trending sales for mario games both 2d and 3d...it sold poorly. Good attach rate for the system but bad overall sales, and that was due to not enough bodies buying copies. God of War is not a good comparison to make honestly, you want to compare Nintendo to Nintendo. Mario is Nintendo's brand. Six mil is almost insulting to them.
Edit: electrolite77 was kind enough to post numbers.
I skipped the Wii U, so the more the merrier. Bring it on!
@rjejr,
I was being sarcastic,I liked the Wii U and it will always be special to me as it was the first time i saw Mario in HD,but for people to keep saying it was anything other than a failure is just incorrect.
All those games are the success stories as they have an insane ratio of sales when you consider how few consoles the Wii U sold.
This is not about people wanting or not wanting ports,it's the fact that a lot of the massive Switch user base has not had these games before..so they are new games to them.
So how does this compare to Super Mario World, my favorite mario game?
I swore I'd buy no more WiiU ports but....this and DKC:TF are two of the most solid platformers I've ever played, mechanically and this would be sooooo perfect handheld......sigh....this will be a digital buy. @Ryu_Niiyama I need to make the interwebz go away too, it seems.....
@Mailman
“It sold almost 6 million units”
Which illustrates exactly why they’re doing this.
New Super Mario Bros (DS) - 30.82 million sales
New Super Mario Wii - 30.2 million
New Super Mario Bros 2 - 12.82 million
New Super Mario U - 5.77 million
For a high quality 2D Mario platformer, thats peanuts.
@NEStalgia See, and you said I was OCD. I'm sticking to my principals. I'm not buying anything till FE drops. I got statues to pay off.
@electrolite77 Thank you, I was rushing to work when I replied and didn't have time to look up numbers. You beat me to it. Nintendo crunched numbers when they decided to make these ports and they were correct to do so.
I just hope it will be in 1080p
@Cobalt,
No well done to you sir,and yes we all know the game was better on the Wii U,thanks for pointing that out.
@electrolite77,
Hopefully the Switch's installed base can get those numbers up.
When Nintendo releases an old game from Wii U: "Lazy, boring port."
When Nintendo does not release an old game from N64 or GameCube: Outrage.
@link3710 Fair play to you I didn’t think about it that way! : )
@RedYoshi999 Sadly first party Nintendo Games never really get to a bargain price.
I will not double dip since I think this was the weakest title of the " new" series. Still a good game, but the other titles were better, imo.
@Ryu_Niiyama I said you were OCD....I never said I wasn't.
You're just a little worse. I don't database my games.
......
.........
...........
I just maintain text lists of them in no particular order is all. But series are grouped together.........
@rjejr The problem with all of those games is that as @electrolite77 pointed out for the NSM series, they all sold pretty poorly in comparison to the other games in their series. Yes the "all games sold poorly" narrative doesn't entirely hold up, but the fact is that most of these games failed to live up to thier full potential because they were on a system with such a small user base. That represents lost potential money for Nintendo which is why they're doing this now. When assessing how well a game has sold, we also need to make sure to compare it other games in the series.
@rjejr
Yeah but....Those are dreadful sales. 8 million for a Mario Kart? Deluxe was past 11 million at last count, DS sold 23.6 million, MK7 is on 17.52 million and MK Wii sold 37.14 million. Only Double Dash and Super Circuit sold less.
Mario 3D World is the worst selling 3D Mario platformer ever. Mario Party 10 got outsold by every other entry bar the 3DS one, 3 and 6. Smash Bros is the worst seller in the series. Splatoon got left behind by its sequel. Wind Waker sold less than LTTP GBA, the 3DS remakes and even Crossbow Training.
For what is expected of these series, the sales figures for these games are very poor. The common thread being the Wii U which we know sold very poorly. It’s perfectly reasonable to say that the Wii U failed in terms of both hardware and software sales.
100% big fat no from me. I refuse to pay $80 for a game that came out 6 years ago that is nothing more than a port. How does Nintendo still not understand, thats not how the damn market works.
Games like Shadow of the Colossus were full ground up graphical remakes and were $50 and that is the same across the board. You can get HD remasters of the first 2 Batman games, highly rated classics for less than $30 for both. This is a total ripoff
@MrMetroid I am 100% with you on this one. Its a total scam.
@IHateTombs In Canada its $80 which is about $60 US.
@Romeo-75 Not sure where you have been looking but Amazon and EB are $60 US and $80 CDN. The official RRP of the game is $60 and $80. If you say it for $40 it was likely a special deal of some kind but certainly not the official retail price.
@earthinheritor But it’s how Nintendo gouges their fans. And it works for them. Those remastered games on other systems have to compete with a lot of new AAA games.
Nintendo is squeezing every penny they can out of their fans... like most businesses. Let’s just not pretend Nintendo cares about anything else.
@WOLF13 Very true but sad as well, in the end all it does is hurt them and damages their sales but die hard fans thinks it helps them. I refuse to buy most games full price or cant afford to which means they make nothing of me. I only buy games on sales and im not the only one. Its how they work but its entirely wrong by todays standards.
@earthinheritor yeah, I have too many new games I haven’t played, so why would I spend time on games I’ve already played years ago.
@electrolite77
Don't play the guy who don't know that 6 Million units on 14 Million users is much more impressive than 30 milion units on 155 Million users...
Nice try
@WOLF13
“Nintendo is squeezing every penny they can out of their fans... like most businesses. Let’s just not pretend Nintendo cares about anything else.”
Of course. They’re a business. Like Sony, Microsoft, EA and all the rest. They only exist to make money. Which is why taking games that were on a system that didn’t sell and putting them on one that is selling in an effort to sell them to more people and make money isn’t offensive or insulting or a scam or anything like it. It’s basic common sense.
I’ll buy it eventually. Loved it on Wii U.
@earthinheritor
So because you can’t afford or refuse to buy new games, that somehow is Nintendo’s fault?
@WaveBoy
Do the 8bitdo controllers support the amiibo function? Got to admit they look pretty nice but would rather get the pro controller if not.
@electrolite77 which if you read my post, I said. I said they are a business like everybody else. They aren’t some special company that cares about their fans. They care about money. As does Sony, Microsoft. They aren’t charging extra for these ports because of expensive development costs. They are doing it because they can get their fans to pay whatever. It’s like at the movie theater.... popcorn costs movie goer $10 a bucket or more and costs the theater pennies. If the movie theater had to sell it at the store with competition, they would have to bring the price way down. Gouge the consumer any way you can.
Can we get dr luigi ported with added four players
Super Luigi U is one of the best 2D mario games. But they really should've ported something more exciting than this. I guess it's good for people who didn't have a Wii U.
@WOLF13
Yeah I was agreeing with that bit. It confuses me when you see people get so emotional about things because they’ve decided to anthromorphise a company. They’re not doing this kind of thing to hurt anyone, they’re doing it because the games didn’t sell on the previous system (because that didn’t sell) and they want to make more money. If you don’t want to buy it (and these are just ephemeral consumer products that nobody needs we’re talking about) don’t buy it. That’s the only sensible approach. Understand the relationship.
I actually preferred these games to Super Mario 3D World.
This is BY FAR the best New Super Mario Bros. game so get it if you don't have the Wii U version.
I won’t double dip but I’m happy for those that get to play the finest 2D Mario IMHO for the first time. I can’t fathom why people get so salty about these ports. It’s weird.
@electrolite77 "Those are dreadful sales. 8 million for a Mario Kart"
How many companies would take 8 million for their game? 8 million isn't 30. It isn't "a few copies' or "a couple of copies". It isn't 100 or 1,000. It's 8 million. Unless you are SquarEnix saying 10 million for Tomb Raider is a failure for the majority of games 8 million is good.
And if you look at all those other games selling over 2 million, how many of them do you think lost money b/c they cost more to make than they made in sales? If Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival lost money, good, it's a horrible lousy game, I own it and I've played it. But it's not in the top 10 thankfully.
So while MK8 may not be a success compared to MKWii, well how many game shave outsold MKWii? GTAV maybe? If your only comparison for success is to outsell MKWii then everybody should get out of the game business, b/c that's an extremely tall order.
MK8 is the #8 all time best selling game according to Wiki w/ 37m, out of how many thousands, or 10s of thousands, of video games have been sold? Do you really want that to be your measure for success? Have a game sell in the top 10 OF ALL TIME or else it's a failure?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games
@earthinheritor, You are right., It is 59.99 at retail, I was looking on my GameStop app to which I have a 20.00 reward discount if I buy through GameStop . Nintendo, Nintendo come on these are fantastic games but 59.99 is asking to much they are not new releases.
I’m looking forward to this game! Haven’t played a NSMB since the original DS title. I understand that some people think this series have gone a little bit formulaic, but for me, this looks like a great expansion of the original concept.
@rjejr
Well no, I didn’t say it has to best MKWii to be a success. However I did point out it’s been outsold by every other MK game bar 2. That’s why it got rereleased.
Nintendo rely heavily on their own first party games for revenue. They’ve carefully built up a deserved reputation for high quality products and when they put or something as good as MK8, Mario 3D World, NSMBU they will have an expectation of what they think they will sell. Those expectations weren’t fulfilled because the games were tethered to poor hardware that sold badly and relative to what those games should sell they sold badly. The numbers are there.
The sales of those games on Wii U do nothing more than illustrate how much of a flop the system was. Nintendo’s financial figures during that period illustrate why selling a few million to the hardcore that bought that system is no use to them, they need to reach a wider market. Hence the ports, which by any measure apart from that applied by the odd wounded zealot on here (not you, I add) make perfect sense.
@Mailman
I’m not sure where your quotes are from but my point is those games underperformed against reasonable expectations. Nintendo are right to believe they can reach more people with them by releasing them on a better selling system. Judging by the figures so far they’re right.
@WaveBoy It seems to depend on the game, I’ve never had any problems with lag/latency on the 2D platformers I’ve used it for. However, one time I didn’t bother to change controller when I switched over from Owlboy to Monster Hunter GU (I usually use my Pro Controller for 3D games). And the latency was crazy, probably like half a second or more!
I tried switching over to the Pro Controller, and it was fine again, switched back to the SF30Pro and th latency was back. As an experiment, I tried starting Monster Hunter with the SF30Pro a couple of times more, and the latency was always there, and always really bad. But like I said, that is the only game where I’ve noticed latency with that controller, and that is a game where I rather use the Pro Controller to begin with.
@BenGrimm No, the 8bitdo controllers do not support amiibo.
I wouldn’t recommend getting an 8bitdo controller INSTEAD of a Pro Controller, but I absolutely recommend getting one ASWELL as a Pro Controller, because they are good for different types of games.
The Pro Controller is fantastic for 3D games, probably one of the best. But because of it’s very poor d-pad, it’s not very good for 2D games. That is why I think it is essential to also have an 8bitdo controller, because there are TONS of fantastic 2D platformers for Switch.
This is such a scam! if you had a property you could easily repurpose for little costs and triple your original sales you wouldn’t choose to do that? For most Switch owners this is a new game and still a very high quality game despite being launched originally 6 years ago. Why would Ninty sell it at a discounted price? They’ve got to make money. I’m not going to buy it. I still play my WiiU. I haven’t bothered to get MK8D either for same reason. I’d love to be able to upgrade my WiiU versions for a small cost but that’s not gonna happen anytime soon. This is hardly a scam.
@Mailman
Yeah of course it’s difficult to do direct comparisons given differences in instal base, how established a series is at a particular point etc. I only really use the Wii figures because-however optimistic/misguided some of us might think they are being-that’s the potential Nintendo see in these franchises.
The first 2d mario game that i totally skipped after world 1.
@Atariboy If it works with the NES controller, it will certainly work with the NES Classic controller on the Wii U.
@Strumpan New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U lacked Classic Controller support.
Further, they'd need L/R buttons to rotate platforms and activate certain actions, in lieu of motion controls. So while the SNES Classic controller would've been a perfect fit, the NES Classic pad wouldn't be.
But as I understand it, the NES pad for the Switch does have shoulder buttons.
Still kind of wishing they'd have picked 3D World instead of this...
I still have my WiiU hooked up and I own these games so no. However I know I played through both games but I must be getting forgetful because I don't remember some if this levels. Maybe I should revisit them with my family. I was the only one who played super Luigi because my kids thought it was to hard.
So does this have any new levels?
Still waiting for Nintendo to give me some reasons to buy a Switch...and porting enhanced versions of all the Wii U games I already paid full retail for isn't a good reason.
(And I loved the Wii U, btw.)
Full price? Madness.
I won't be in on this either. That's ridiculous.
@Atariboy Oh, you're right, I just tried it. Such a stupid decision! But yeah, they have shoulder buttons.
Not sure how valuing a recreational product at a price which people are willing to pay is a "scam" or "gouging" - it's not like they're selling life-saving drugs or clean water. In any event this is a pretty good game. I completed it when it first came out, but now that I have a family might purchase this version for the multiplayer aspect. Also I've not played Super Luigi U, which I've heard is great.
@NEStalgia Yeah...well, You wait till I finish building my power bi dashboard for all this data!!!!!
@Ryu_Niiyama that's like the video game equivalent of Snoopy's dog house light display....
Well at least they kept the U.
Although the Wii U retreads may be annoying to people who've already played for years on that console, I am fine with releasing them again on the Switch, as they are excellent games that deserve a second chance!!
I wonder if they will include the asymmetric multiplayer gameplay? That was very cool about the original - you could have a fifth player to help the others by building bridges, etc..
Looks great. Played this briefly on my WiiU- will definitely grab for the Switch.
@BenGrimm Its not about thats its about Nintendo pricing issue that they have always had. 6 year old games should not be full price. Its pretty much a middle finger to the fans. You wouldn't buy a 6 year old console for full price because even a year or 2 in they drop by $50-$100. God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 stayed full price for just a few months before going on sale and wont be long before they drop to a new permanent low. No other developer prices there games like Nintendo does. The only exception is COD which stays at a high price an that is not a model you want to build you franchises on. Look at Red Dead 2 as an example. Came out in October, AAA game with extremely high budget, one of the best looking at highest rated games on the market. $80cdn or $60usd, it is now on sales for between $15 and $20 less and most retailers it will drop to that pretty quick an that is a brand new title.
This is a 6 year old game in a new package for full price and as its Nintendo its likely to never drop. It isn't economically wise to do jdjkakhdksjnsg like that. They could sell loads more if it was a cheaper game but full price tag is BS. If Sony, MS or Steam did that you can bet there would be social media posts blasting them.
I mean come on, look at Spyro Reignited, the full retail is $40usd. That is 3 games rebuilt from the ground up from scratch, new audio, voice acting and graphics. They didnt even have the original code they had to rebuild that too. So why is Super Mario Bros U Deluxe a full price $60 game when all they did was repackage it?
@earthinheritor
Nintendo’s games have always been like that tho. Even if I wanted to buy a GameCube game I’d still be paying more than usual if it’s a first party title.
@BenGrimm I know but it doesn't make it right. It's like saying Microtransactions are fine because everyone is doing them now. Doesn't make it any better just means more companies are realizing that people will pay stupid money for stupid things.
@earthinheritor
It’s stupid to you but not to others. That’s just the way it works. People will only pay if they want it, Nintendo are making a killing at the moment so it’s obviously working for them.
@IHateTombs Sorry, I should have clarified. I'm Canadian so we pay 79.99 + tax unfortunately which comes to essentially 90 bucks
@WaveBoy I agree man they are super pricey. I also have a PS4 so it's even more ridiculous to me because I paid 40 USD for full remakes such as the Shadow of Colossus and Ratchet and Clank. That Ratchet remake even tweaked some parts of the game which made it seem like it was a new game.
Then on the Nintendo side we got DKCTF which I loved on the Wii U but only it's resolution was increased and they added funky for full price....... It's hard being a Nintendo fan sometimes.....
