Earlier this week, Fortnite developer and publisher Epic Games placed a lifetime ban on the professional eSports 'FaZe Clan' player Jarvis Kaye after he was caught cheating in a series of videos online. In a YouTube upload, Kaye said he didn't consider Epic's zero-tolerance policy when it came to the use of cheat software, and just wanted to create entertaining videos.
Tyler Blevins – famously known as Ninja, the world's most popular Fortnite streamer – has now shared his own thoughts on the ban (during a stream), stating how he believes content creators who cheat should be handled "a little bit differently" to regular players because it's how they earn a living.
There's a difference between a content creator who has millions of subscribers, hundreds of thousands of followers, who gets banned from literally what makes him money and some kid...who has absolutely zero following, has zero money that comes from gaming, and hacks. You ban that kid, nothing happens to him. Nothing happens. 'Oh no, he can't cheat anymore.' You ban Jarvis... It's different. The stakes are different, it should be handled a little bit differently.
You ban one, you ruin his life. You ban the other, he makes another account and keeps cheating. It's different. It has to be handled differently.
Later on in the stream, Ninja said he regretted his initial comments, and stated how the ban should "100 percent be there" but issued a warning about punishing creators at the same time:
Without your content creators as well, though, it has a negative impact on your game.
He also mentioned how punishment for juveniles who cheat should be different, just like it is in the legal system.
Should pros and streamers be treated differently? Share your thoughts below.

Sounds like he’s covering his ass just in case he cheats or is caught cheating one day, he can fall back to this.
If you cheat on an online game and you signed or agreed to not cheating, then you deserve what's coming.
Why not just open a new fortnite account? Whats the problem? Surely they can just ban accounts and not people?
That's stupid. Same rules should apply for everyone. If the consequences of being caught cheating will be that detrimental to your life then that should just be extra incentive to not cheat in the first place. It's not that hard.
Boo hoo, go and get a real job. Sorry but streaming yourself sitting in a chair, playing video games is not a job. I've heard every single argument for it, so don't even try to argue it is. I've watched some Twitch streams, sure it's mindless entertainment I guess? But to give money to them? HELL NO. I've sat there watched some streams, and counted the money they get in 10 minutes, and for most people, who have to go and work for a living, they wouldn't even get that in an entire day. And these people get it by just being a bum playing video games, and acting like an idiot in most cases.
@Moistnado I think the point is that they can't stream from a new account without everyone knowing about it so that account will just get banned too. Nothing really stopping them from just playing for fun, just can't make money off it anymore.
Stakes are higher? As in you may have to get an actual job like the rest of us....heaven forbid hey!
I absolutely DISAGREE with him. Cheating in an online game IS bad. This doesn't matter if you are a "content creator" / "pro gamer" / "influencer" or a normal human being. If it's your job to play games, the penalty should actually be even higher.
No. Idiot. Completely disagree
If anything it should be the opposite and they should be punished harder because it brings publicity to cheating.
If you are dumb enough to risk your livelihood and get caught then that is on you and you have to face the consequences.
Stupid and idiotic. I agree with comment number 8 that "If it's your job to play games, the penalty should actually be even higher."
What a load of self importance drivel. Youtube has made some people think they are bigger than they are and they need a reality check. This Ninja being one of them! By his own misguided logic anyone who commits a crime in the real world that’s rich and famous shouldn’t be punished harshly because they may lose that fame and money and the common man committing the same crime should face the full force of the law.
Rich or poor, famous or not famous if you do wrong and get caught you should be punished.
Epic Games did the right thing. Maybe those Youtubers who think they are something and are tempted to cheat make even more money will get a reality check.
The Ninja: Yeah don't ban me if I cheat otherwise I'll be poor but do ban the kids who do cheat cause then they'll grow up and be like me and make more money than me.
Everyone else: He think he's so special, having a Youtube channel doesn't make you special. Being entertaining doesn't make you special. The only thing that make you special is not getting caught in the first place.
The Nintendo Ninja: Pretty sure we're going to end up shredding you to pieces like we do every other cheaters and leakers.
Ok yeah Content creators Suld mabe be treated difrntly... only I feel thay suld be treated way more harshly... as there setting a example for how to play the game. I'd be curious to see if the figures show spikes in hacking after a youtuber like this shows cheating or if it dips.
Well then treat it like doping. First offense 2 year ban. Second offense lifetime ban.
@Sinister was looking for some sort of reference to steroids in sports
I see his point? But his stakes are different is not a valid response. Because everyone has different stakes their personal life can't be taken into account for these things. You can't make exceptions for anyone in rules because what's the point in the rules?
Edit: some cases like in law exceptions are good but this is just a sport
@Moistnado yeah as BenAV stated. He basically cant make any money from pro playing the game anymore. I'd imagine it was a pretty tidy sum aswell.
LOL. No, Ninja. No double standards here. If you cheat in an online game, you're cheating. Sugarcoat that anyway you'd like, that's exactly what it is. If you really wanna 'hack' or cheat, there are tons of offline games ripe for the taking, and several amazing content creators already do that. Take a cue from one of them and have fun.
Besides, sounds like he's just being defensive in case he's caught ever cheating.
Cheating is cheating. Everyone, pro or not, should be banned, period.
"Yeah, but this is my job..."
So? If I do something at my work that is absolutely not allowed, I know I could get fired... they still fire me if I actually do it and they find out.
How is this any different?
He doesn't even look like a Ninja
How can he be so dumb?
It is the same with athletes that use drugs. One such ban could ruin their careers that that is OK.
Why should anyone care if he makes a living of gaming if he cheats?
Just ban and forget about those people. If he can't make a living of something else then … well that is natural selection.
That's like saying racing drivers should be allowed to drink and drive because driving is their livelihood. Or I should be allowed to get away with gross misconduct at work because it would affect my livelihood. I know the impact is different but same rules should apply to everyone.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Get him outta here. His 15 minutes is obviously up.
Yeah and Lance Armstrong should have been allowed to keep all his accolades. Those who are leaders on anything have to set example. If the stakes are higher for streamers then... good! That is what people of responsibility deal with.
I agree they should be treated differently. "Pro" players found cheating should also pay a fine related to the money they earn in order to set a better example to those steamers who may be thinking of going pro.
Is he saying that game publishers are at the mercy of content creators?
Nintendo demonetised any video of their games shown without their permission. Nintendo don't give a damn about streamers. If you cheat in Mario Kart, they will banned you regardless if you are 5 year old kid or an adult playing video games for a living.
This Ninja guy is a joke. He should be banned for his dumb ass comment on the matter.
It's silly cause if anything it should just be exact opposite.
Content creators and pro-players are the reference and example of their game's community and the ones that reach thousands (if not millions) of people, showing them how to play etc.
There is also no doubt that they set examples as their major audience is pretty young and easily prone to imitate.
All that said, it just sound logical to me that content creators and pro-players may face harsher punishment when caught breaking the rules.
And please, it's a game ban, the fact he mentioned the legal system is completly unrelated unless people start to get in jail for cheating.
Probably because he cheats too
When someone cheats in a multiplayer game he ruins the experience for everyone else. That doesn't change if he streams it onto YouTube.
@NoTinderLife I think he is 😂 someone remind him how hes making his money!
Just don't cheat then
@BakaKnight Exactly! Ninja is just a pompous ass. Always has been!
Especially streamers and youtubers should be treated even more harshly, since they have a big influence on other gamers!
They are supposed to set an example!
So if you cheat, you're out! Period!
A ban is a ban. Why should anyone get preferential treatment? Just “some” kid considered against a “pro” kid? Loser. Ninja talks out of his ass and is a jumped Up idiot
I dunno. You can sometimes get leniency for driving bans if it'd prevent you from earning a living and hence cause significant hardship. Sounds like a similar principle to me.
People actually follow this guy? I actually laughed when I read an article about this on a different website earlier. Cheating should always be banned. If you have to cheat, just to feel good then you got problems and need to get help. If you cheat for like single player games, who cares, do it but not in these competitive online multiplayer games. The real stuff is learning how to play better, training yourself, keeping fit so your reflexes are good etc. Getting good the natural way is just more satisfying and feels good and right. Play with honor, that is way better than cheating.
And also, athletes that cheat rarely get a lifetime ban for a first offence. Lifetime ban does seem a bit harsh.
Feck off. Content "creators" (a funny name for people who create absolutely nothing of worth) should be dealt with more stringently. If you consider yourself to be an "influencer" then you should be more responsible and set an example and by that example you should consider and take the consequences.
#ContentCreatorsRiseUp
Honestly they've been kept down long enough!
Wow, how disconnected from reality can you be? But to sum up his attitude in one sentence, ‘those that have, should keep having; those that don’t, should not’
Yes, the stakes are higher, but that is kinda part of the job description. If you do not like that, than I would suggest taking a different job, though it might be a bit hard to find a job that you can not lose due to some kind of misbehavior...
But don't worry there is an easy solution to avoid this kind of punishment for cheating: DON'T DO IT
Shouldn't be that hard.
Does he play exclusively against other professionals who cheat, or also against regular players just trying to enjoy the game? If the latter, he's spoiling the game for others. Cheaters should only be "allowed" to cheat on private matches for other cheaters. In real life, it's called getting sacked and/or prison. That's what happens to professionals who cheat in most other professions. Peace!
Epic didn't ruin his life, the guy ruined his own. These folks have serious problems with accountability.
If you don't follow the rules then there can be consequences, simple as that.
Or he shouldv used a dummy account or something if it was just for free play not competitive. Otherwise too bad, go play something else or go play outside, read a book😅.
The entitlement Is REAL.
Seriously.
“We have followers and get paid”
The guys that just play... they are peasants.
Ban all “influencers” and don’t pay anyone to play games and problem solved. Jumped up little goons. A “job” like this will never last forever. Be sensible. Don’t do anything to risk it. Don’t be arrogant or think you are above anyone and realise you’ll need to prepare for a future when you aren’t paid to play games. Because it’s coming.
Agree with a lot of posts above, he cheated, he got caught, his problem. But hey, he has to make a livin’, he should have thought of that before he cheated
What a load of bs. Does this guy even know what he's talking about. If it's going to "ruin" their life it's pretty damn simple.. Don't cheat?
Its going to be a sad E3 next year if it's aimed at these guys... Just keep those directs coming Nintendo to save the rest of us.
Have to say that this comments section is incredibly Daily Mail. I wonder how many of the zero tolerance brigade also think we should bring back hanging.
Never in my life have I ever seen a comment section so unified in its overall opinion. And rightfully so. Ninja's words are foolish.
Um... How about no?
If my boss ever tries to fire me I am going to try this argument.
Oh no.. Just end him
Ruined his life at 18 years old..... hahahaha wow... this new generation needs a reality check
Cheating in a normal job usually has more severe consequences. If you work for a finance company and you "cheat" you tend to go to prison or get a hefty fine or both. At least if you get banned from one game you could always move to another game to stream.
I think streamers and pro gamers should be treated the exact same way.
As total losers.
How delusional can you get
Yeah I dont see how anyone would agree with that statement in any way.
I don't mind people cheating. In fact I enjoy cheating too on occasion. As long as it has no impact on other players I feel that it's alright. I wouldn't use it to gain a competitive advantage for example.
Good thing he eyes his hair weird colors or I'd never be able to pick him out of a lineup.
If anything, they should be held to a higher standard because they have a following and are role models to people. Those who cheat, should be banned temporarily depending on situation and if it’s first offense. Those who make money and are cheating, should be banned for life. Cheating offline hurts no one. Cheating while playing against others is not fair for everyone else and cheaters should be punished.
Get a real job losers!
@betterbygames @oatmaster This is not just a guy cheating. He was bringing awareness and setting an example to everyone watching. He ruined matches beyond the ones he participate and even after his ban there will be some of his followers cheating after being influenced by him.
Not mention that exposing himself cheating on Youtube is basically mocking the company behind the games.
Cheaters streaming should have no tolerance given.
Or..just don't cheat if your livelyhood depends on your account. How about them apples?
If someone's livelihood is dependent on such a decision, it's just common sense to look at and judge the specific individual case at hand.
The questions ought to be ...
1. What result do we want to achieve and is it legitimate (e.g. revenge is what I consider an illegitimate goal)?
2. Are there any means that yield comparable results, but affect the person at hand to a less severe degree?
3. How does the damage our action may cause compare to the benefits of the desired result?
->
In short, is the means proportionate to the offense with the respect to the legitimate goal.
Is this about a fair environment of play or about punishing someone for breaking rules? That is not the same thing.
So for instance, was there milder means than a ban for life? Of course there was. I figured most of us agreed that folks make mistakes .... and how much harm was actually done? Is that harm utterly irreversible? How does it compare to the effect that such a ban has on him? Is that really proportionate? I think all of these are simple, fair and legitimate questions.
Really, I'm not a fan of Ninja, but what argues for here is just common sense. It's frightening how readily people jump at the opportunity to tear someone down, not mainly for the sin of having made a mistake, but for being a public, more or less well-doing figure.
I think much of the reaction can be explained by the underlying sentiment, that these are 'no real jobs'. I empathize with that, but it doesn't really hold any water. There are thousands and thousands of people who after some fashion self-employed and work 'unconventional' jobs.
But as long as what they are doing is not deleterious to the common good (think like a drug dealer for instance) and as long as it serves the creating and/or continued support of their self-sustained economic existence ... well, it'd say it is a job, whether I "feel" it should be considered one or not.
I have to agree with him. The kid was just looking for content and thought this was a good idea to get clicks. If he had any inclination that his career would take such a hit from it I couldn’t imagine he would have done it.
The punishment SHOULD feel worse, because these people have massive audiences and them cheating normalizes it in the minds of countless people.
@Ralek85
If the rules created by the developers are there in place, I feel as if the ones trying to make a living off of them should at least know that much and adhere to them even more. As someone else pointed out, they are in the limelight, and if a viewer of their content finds out they are cheating, it could destroy the whole reason those rules were there in the first place, with a lot complaining well I saw my favorite streamer doing it so how come nothing happened to them?
There is no reason why content creators should be above that because the developers saw a need for those rules in the first place to make sure every player has fun =equally= the same way. It's just not fair to anyone if, just because you profit more than I do, and I decide to do the same, I get subjected to the developers ban, but not the person who was doing it just because it's their profession. If they don't know enough to try to make content that's under the same rules as the ones watching their content, I don't see why anything should be bended for them, and I watch a lot of YouTube. It's more I believe fair is square and beneficial for the overall gaming community.
@oatmaster yeah you are right. It’s very daily mail to say all cheats should be treated equally. It’s very daily mail to question entitlement of these wealthy white kids that have been able to use daddies credit cards to buy gaming machines, streaming equipment and allowed to play games 24/7 to build a following.
Yeah I wish we would all be less daily mail and encourage cheating the system but only by the elite and wealthy and seek to give entitled more money.
Man I feel bad now.
@Ralek85 or.... just spiff balling here... instead of everyone else having to think and consider the consequences for these paid gamers and adjusting punishments so they don’t effect them so bad.... they think about their own situation and don’t do things to risk.... like the rest of us have to do daily.
The issue is too many gamers treat these “pro gamers” and influencers like they are gods and allow them too much slack.
dont cheat then, you moron..
The TOS say your account can be banned. So there’s really no room there for feel good half measures and armchair pundits.
This isn’t about punishment or rage against tubers, it’s about the company showing they adhere to their TOS regardless of the account holder’s status.
These youtubers actually think they're better than everyone else and I have come to loathe this aspect of gaming culture.
This moron thinks it's a good example to set for millions of viewers, many of whom are sheep, that it's okay to cheat as long as you are getting paid and have a superiority complex.
If anything at all, the punishment should be more harsh with fines to show that it isn't okay to cheat, ever.
What an idiot. Don't want your life ruined? Don't cheat, you douchebag. If something is your livelihood and you're stupid enough to risk it using cheats, too bad.
Boggles my mind anyone can stand to watch people like this for more than 30secs.
I can't believe that people would defend a cheater or even talk about is it too harsh. Look, the guy was making money by cheating. So, is it ok to give him a warning and then say don't do it again. Shame on you! Hah.
There are some countries that cut your hands off if you're caught stealing. This poor youtuber was making money off of us, and he wasn't even playing legit. I wonder if he even was good at all because then why would he need cheats then. So, if he needed cheats to be good and was making money off of it, why the hell wouldn't he be banned. If they didn't ban him, then that would send a message saying, ya go ahead and cheat AND make money because you will only get a slap on the wrist is all. So, why don't we all cheat then and make money. Yay! Who cares about honor and truth. Yay! Please, the people cheating are aware of the risks and when they get caught they're like omg why. This is a good lesson for that young man.
Why people keep saying this is a mistake?!?!
He did this deliberately, by his own choice. This is NOT a mistake!
If he was hacked and someone else placed a hack on is PC then it would have been different. But it is not.
He should pick up a different game or cry more.
"I misinterpreted the rules!" Is this the future slogan for ESports? Cheating to win is never acceptable. If YouTube wants to make a slightly different punishment for minors, fine. It should still be at least a 6 month ban.
Content Creators are important to YouTube but they are also setting the example for their audience. If they are caught cheating, making a stereotypical statement or promote violence then that user should be dealt with the severity of the issue.
Hopefully the kid learns his lesson and stops cheating. Maybe he can play games for fun and figure out another path in life.
What a stupid argument. You break the rules at your job, you get fired. The boy's life isn't ruined. He is still high school aged, from what I know. Stream another game, or go to college. Own your mistake and don't cheat at whatever you do next. He has plenty of unruined life ahead of him. And comparing this to the legal system... good grief.
Streamers can be so strange.
To me this is simple...
Cheat and you get banned. You have to download additional software, you know what you are doing! No excuses.
Make money from it? Well in theory if you make money from it why should they get to keep it? Especially anything firm esports competitions. He is bringing the sport in to disrepute - that should be a lifetime ban form ANY competition, at least for a fixed amount of time.
Watching other people play video games? I don't get it...
Cheating should have consequences. Earning millions doing it SHOULD be treated more seriously. This boy is nothing more than a disingenuous shill at this point. Sure the stakes are higher for him...just means he has more to lose NOT he is entitled to some sort of protection. Absolutely unbelievable and gut wrenchingly nauseating to me.
I 100% agree with this ban. And even more so that he was a professional player. Completely unacceptable to cheat especially if its 'how you earn a living'
It's simply easier to not cheat. You just have to do nothing, besides playing the game as intended. Zero third parties downloads, no set up, just play the game.
Every time I hear about this, I can't help but think about the other players Jarvis was playing with and just how he was ruining their game by cheating for the sake of "creating content" which later he would monetize on.
Nah. There popularity is fleeting. An abnormality. Their downfall should be too. Glad that idiot got banned. Now he’ll have to consider another “profession” or other game to mooch off of.
That’s what happens in the real world when you break the rules.
If just for content, go ahead and use whatever cheating mechanism. However, if caught in a professional match cheating, whatever the rule is on the matter must be followed.
Just leave Brittany alone! Oh wait, wrong person.
It would be one thing to say you’re cheating ahead of time- although probably you won’t get any followers or become pro because you don’t have skills. But to lie about it is fraud- people might “follow” you because they think you’re so good at the game when in reality you’re not.
Bottom line- be a “content creator” by being good or interesting and not relying on cheating, you idiots
So you should be above the terms of service if you are a pro gamer? Are we really at the point now that cheaters can do whatever if they are influencers? This is no different than an actual athlete. When Armstrong admitted he used performance enhancing drugs they didn’t pat him on the back and say “that’s ok because you are so famous”.
These games have RULES to keep them fair for everyone. Either abide by the rules or be punished by them. And if a 17 year old doesn’t know right from wrong (for that matter someone who is pro has likely played enough games to see what happens if you cheat so it isn’t like he skipped though with no examples) then he has bigger problems. Never mind the TOS and employment contracts he agreed to.
I know money makes a farce of rules/laws but that isn’t something to be proud of/rally for. But modern culture isn’t about being good people it’s about money, being seen and fake elitism (I recognize/acknowledge elite people but money doesn’t make you one.) What he did was a deliberate action which means it was not a mistake. People throw around the word mistake just because the action doesn’t impact them. So just like everyone else he should get the same punishment.
Also this doesn’t ruin his life. Is the Ninja dude suggesting that the only thing this young man can do is play games? And just this game only? Does he know how many college players don’t end up playing their sport for life? What do they do? Oh get an education (hopefully) and enter the work force like everyone else. You don’t die when the spotlight turns off.
The bad part is I feel that “solidarity” from influencers will only make that young man think he is a victim. I expect in a decade to hear how his future was “stolen” from him. Hopefully I’ll be out of gaming by then.
Also I loved the veiled threat about content creators bans.
Modern celebrity worship culture is insane.
@Dragonstar
Well, and it's sad because all the kids are seeing this potential success and now want to stream for a living.
That's what we need, MORE jobs that don't contribute anything tangible to the economy, promote laziness, shortcuts, and award recognition without any skill or hard work. /s
So, companies shouldn't bother with small cheaters by his logic?
I've had several matches in Splatoon 2 with literal nobodies that simply ruined the experience for seven other players. It's unacceptable either way.
Someone in a position to get money or make a living playing such a game should be more mindful of what's involved and what is required of them to maintain their position in the first place. If it's a living for someone, they should be protecting it, not demonstrating how to break the rules to a large audience. If it's important to a person, they should treat it as important.
Whether he read them or not, the dude agreed to the same terms of service as everyone else. Therefore, he should be entitled to the same consequences as everyone else for breaking them.
Oh dear lord, now there’s a 1% in gaming...
@Snow-Dust He already cheats. That's why he's covering his ass.
@sdelfin It's no different then if o cheated my company I work for. I'd get fired and so should they.
So... I'm "famous" so am above the law? I make money so I have more privileges than any other "kid"?
... And this is the type of "people" / "jobs" kids look up to this days.
@Dragonstar It's entertainment. Its like saying actors, comedians and athletes should get a real job.
People who cheat should be banned. Period.
Cheats are only acceptable in single player games.
Wow...talk about arrogant. "I have subscribers...so I'm more special than you are!" Even my 17yo daughters get how stupid and self-important his comments sound. They agree with me and the others on here who say that if this is your JOB...and you are making money from it...and you cheat...you should be treated MORE harshly! You are showcasing the job to your thousands or millions of subscribers, in essence promoting the game to your community. To then turn around and cheat in said game...even for fun...in order to make even more money off of it...is just wrong. You know you are breaking the rules...you know the consequences of doing so. You get caught...you pay the penalty.
To clarify a little...I disagree with those that say "gaming/content creators isn't a real job!". For those that truly make it big in this sphere, it really IS a job. They spend hours filming, editing, making content for others to enjoy. Its no different than TV or Hollywood productions, just on a smaller scale. BUT those that truly get into it to make a living out of it TREAT it as such. They take it seriously, and their audience seriously as well. They watch what "sells" on their channels, and shift and move accordingly to what their audiences want to see. It takes work. However, that does not in any way disagree with what I said above...if you are caught cheating, you pay the penalties. There is a TOS for a reason, whether you actually read it or not. And being a professional gamer, I would HOPE you read it and understood it to know what you are getting into. If there is a total zero tolerance policy for cheating, and the punishment is an account ban, then so be it. Get back to your channel, find another game your followers will enjoy you playing, and move on. Don't whine and complain about it. Do something about it. There have been plenty of other content creators who have had to do the same thing at one time or another.
I agree with being banned.if you dont cheat you dont have to worry about being banned
They deserve to be banned. If their fans are legitimately there for the person then they can just move onto another game.
I think Ninja's argument; the concept that streamers are relying on a games popularity to make money, is weak. If the money and audience the player is getting is that reliant on the game, does the streamer even deserve the money in the first place?
So what he's saying is, if you're not famous then to heck with you? What a self entitled heckoff!
The stakes aren't actually different! Anyone HAS the potential to make a living off streaming or content creation. If you're going to cheat, and break the rules of the User Agreement (which BTW y'all should READ any contract you sign!) then you deserve the exact same punishment anyone else would get. No special treatment whatsoever!
If this was a single player game, then who cares. But it's literally an online competitive game, where oftentimes cash money is put up as a prize for tournaments of it. He got exactly what he deserved, and I sincerely hope he takes this opportunity to reflect, observe what he did wrong, why it went the way it did, and grow as a person. Making this a slap on the wrist for him would entirely negate this healthy opportunity for a dash of realism in his life and the chance to be a better person.
“All hail to Ninja! Best video game player in the WORLD!”
Just kidding, I’m not 10.
I'll just add my "agree with the ban" comment here. This Ninja guy is nowhere near reality, which is the same for most of these folks "making a living" from streaming. As with any job, get caught breaking rules, YER FIRED!
@Koolaidman84 People (at least me) mainly watch for the person playing it to see their reactions to a game. It’s especially a lot more entertaining seeing them play games blind without them knowing what will happen. (Dashie is one of my favorites, especially with his Mario Kart 8 series)
Watching boring “gamers” with dyed hair just play shooters with no personality aside from quoting memes and trends? That I don’t get.
Then get a real job. There, I said it.
Jarvis has a following, which means he's setting the worst kind of example to his audience both young and old. He cheated, let him live with the consequences.
@tobsesta99 ya you're 9.
@Dirty0814 I agree. I'm just amazed someone, even a young person, making a living from a game wouldn't treat it as important and make sure they don't do something, like showing cheats, that could ruin that. The pro players have a responsibility if they make money from it.
@Xylnox oh no I’ve been found out
Streamers should be punished differently indeed.
More severe that is!!
By streaming themselves using cheats they influence others, younger players especially, to maybe try the same.
If some unknown guy cheats he hamrs only the players in his current game!
Good ol Ninja should try and wrap his colorful head around that.
Whew. This all certainly falls into the nuance-deficit arena. "you break the rules and you get fired/go to prison". Amazing how many people roam free after loading music into their iPod, driving at 31 in a residential area or pissing about on the internet in work after signing a contract agreeing they won't.
Anyone saying that cheating for a laugh that hurts nobody who has ever used illegal drugs or used a dodgy internet stream needs to examine their own cognitive dissonance.
My grandfather worked in a logging camp at age 14 to support his siblings and widowed mother. When he was 18 he was in Europe shooting very very very bad people in WWII. Young people have it much harder nowadays.
What I got from this is "rules are for thee not me because mah followers"
You cheat you get banned..Good riddance..you got what you deserved
Lol, no. The same rules should apply, that’s just life. Every career can be volatile, especially in entertainment. I don’t feel sorry for him.
@PortablexombieV2 “But boss, this is how I make a living!”
You make more in a year than many make in a lifetime, if anything stakes are LOWER for you. No, you don't get special treatment because you have colored hair and a cult.
First: No, just because you are any from of content creator, you shouldn't get a get-out-of-jail card.
Second: As a "pro" and "influencer" and just as a human with brain, one should know that cheating is forbidden.
Third: If he had any brain, he would have contacted Epic and asked for a collaboration in this, even call it education in how to spot a cheater. But no, he had to be a lil' crybaby about the fact, that he went and ruined the experience for others just to make money.
Four: Stop asking for better treatment, the world is already unfair in many regards and moneysacks and influencers get away with way to much. At least leave gaming alone.
Cheating is Cheating! regardless of the situation it took place in. so "Ninja" can go just F**k himself! He's already taking away any respect the term "Ninja" ever had. All I want is to never see this guy's face ever again.
@Snow-Dust
I was thinking the EXACT same thing. As all I heard was someone speaking like a potential cheater themselves to me lol
So if I kill someone, I should go to jail, but if a famous, rich, or influential person kills someone, they shouldn't?
@Dragonstar If he makes a living out of it, then yeah is the definition of a real job even if it looks ridiculous to you.
@leathco sadly, there seems to be some truth to that nowadays.
(First off, someone ought to play the devils advocate or the argument - any argument - is no god fun! ^^=
@betterbygames I'm just saying that rules need to leave room to look at issues on a case-by-case basis.
Professional vs hobbyist is not a line I would draw in the sand, but I do think one could argue he was 'doing a job' and banning someone for life from doing that job strikes me as a really severe act. I don't argue it could or should never be done, but ... in this particular case?
I dunno, at least it's something I find worth considering, meaning it's not all black and white. I'm not really involved enough to make any kind of judgement though, I was just surprised how intense and one-sided the reaction around here was.
@Desa I'm just saying that a ban like this is an extreme measure, and maybe not one necessary to achieve a goal like fair play for all and that it might affect him alot more adversely than it might affect you or me. That should be taken into account in my view.
Rules (as laws) should apply too everyone equally, for sure, but there needs to be room to account for the person and the 'deed' as far as consequences go. We don't look at a dead body and go on to dish out death sentences. It might have been a murder, it might have been manslaughter ... it might have been premeditated or not. It might have been the 1st or 2nd time, it
If it's all just the same ... I dunno, but is it right that people stand and fall, to put some pathos into it, all equally based on arbitrary drawn lines, whether their cases really do compare in relevant aspects or not? I think that which is equal should be treated equal, but that which is not equal most not be treated as if it were equal.
@Stocksy I certainly don't, I don't follow the game and I didn't know the guy before this news made the round. I was just like standing on principle in a way if you will. I mean, it's an issue that needs to be considered. These companies have basically created their own economies and they are making the rules for them, as if they were feudal lords.
You steal or cheat? You will get your hands hacked off. You might be a smith and it might just have been one apple ... A finger might have surficed though? No one cares.
I guess it just does not strike me as neither a) a fair process nor b) a fair outcome, with the latter being the one that really stings. This is gonna affect more people in the future, be it gamers or streamers or whatever the future holds. It bears thinking and debating on.
Also, and in regards to limelight, it just reeks - at least to me - of envy. Are there more important issues and individuals more worth of consideration? Sure, but does that make this an non-issue or a cut and dry case? I don't quite think so.
What? That's the most b***s*** thing I've ever heard in my life. If anything "pro" players and streamers who are caught cheating should be penalized worse!
That's like saying "you shouldn't steal, unless it's your livelihood, then it should be handled differently..."
Like what!? No, get a job and stop making games less fun for everyone that you cheat against. Doooooosh.
If he wanted to keep getting paid he should have been smarter about it.
Honestly I don't see what the appeal is about watching a person cheat. Id rather watch someone who actually has the skill to do it on there own.
@BenAV Shame, looks like he'll have to go get a job doing something else. Perhaps streaming a different game, which doesn't seem too hard to do.
No. Like @BenAV said, it doesn't matter why you're playing. If losing your account would be absolutely devastating to you, then you should probably take extra care not to break the rules, especially when it comes to messing with the program's code.
I do, however, believe in second chances. Cheat once and get a temporary ban. Cheat again and you're out.
@Dragonstar Musicians should get a real job. They spend all their time getting good with their keyboard so they can entertain people. Music is just a hobby. There's no reason it should be paid work. Anyone can play the piano. Anyone can have a goofy stage presence. Piano recital competitions are pointless. Musicians are cancelled. Etc.
I've never met someone who's fun at parties who says stuff like "video gaming can't be a career, it's just lazy and boring" and while that's certainly anecdotal, your attitude towards this topic seems rather telling. Obviously, every single person who's ever donated money to a streamer is just a huge idiot or a young child and there's no nuance or further reasoning as to why someone might want to send money to an individual who they find entertaining, educational, talented in a certain field, etc. I deeply regret any time I spent money on something for no reason other than I found it enjoyable. I've posted my Switch to Craigslist. Food and water are the only things worth spending money on now.
Oh the arrogance... Hypocrite... When you earn a living by playing Fortnite...? Who do you think you are? So when I drive when drunk or double the speed limit but I did it while working, it rectifies it?
What a load of crap. If it’s your livelihood, don’t cheat.
If someone working at a Casino steals from their employer they likely won’t get a job at any other Casino in the country. They aren’t getting a free pass because “it’s their livelihood”.
People need to be accountable for their own mistakes when those errors are pre meditated and they knew what they were doing.
I’d argue popular streamers cheating is worse as it’s advertising the wrong thing to a population versus some random kid no one is following. The streamer is also profiting off their misbehaviour where the random kids getting a laugh out of it but likely not much else. People in the public eye cheating on a game can alter the perception of the game as a whole, so should be dealt with appropriately.
@BenAV yep, cheating at a game you make a living off of is like stealing from a normal job. Either way you should be fired.
thank you top comments, -i really thought somebody would actually think his opinion to be correct -when it's not. the hell ninja -get that everyone should be treated equally no matter your dang title. you cheat, you get the same treatment like the rest -oh you got big subscribers, and money? who the heck cares, rules are rules, and it'll run over your cruddy protection badge -you're trying to use to get away with future or possibly past cheating you could've possibly done.
i really thought he was gonna say something smart, but sadly not -sigh, hopefully he changes his way of thinking...
Cheating is cheating, screw him. If I worked in a shop and was caught stealing from that shop I wouldn’t expect them to go easier on me.
Are the kids nowadays so deluded?
He’s right but his opinions is inverted: pro gamers deserve worse band than normal Schmos like us because they promote cheating to a larger audience.
@betterbygames
Well, people to have a right to work in their chosen profession, don't they? That right, like any right, is not absolute.
If you want to interfere with such a right, you better have a very good reason.
If you want to partially eliminate that right altogether, you better have a very good reason, that serves a meaningful public good with no milder means available to achieve that goal.
I fail to see how that makes the rules ambiguous & open to manipulation. As the right to working in one's occupation and making a living, clearly supersedes any - frankly, by comparison - silly rule company XYZ makes for how it handles cheaters in their game ZYX.
As far as police or courts go, that is not something I argue for. It depends on the individual case. There's probably a reason, police and courts know systems e. g. for reprimanding officials, instead of having one rule, that says breaking any rule, leads to instant dismal for life ... and why the bars for instant dismal of all things, is pretty high.
Also, again, what is the legitimate purpose of the rule at hand? I doubt the purpose was to punish folks by cutting of their source of income and banning them form a chosen profession for one mistake for life. Epic made it's own rules so that it actually has discretion in handling cases on their own merit rather than ...
fact found -> consequences applied.
Those players that reach some kind of popularity become an example for young audience. If they were to be treated differently, I'd rather like them to be punished harder than the rest.
What an idiot. If you cheat, you know what your doing, if the policy is lifetime ban then guess what? you shouldnt cheat.
Its no different to work, if you do something that is gross misconduct you get fired.
sounds like he might cheat sometimes and wants to head it off.....
I struggle to take his comments with a straight face.. ruins their life? Dont worry man theres still other ways they can work that doesn't involve fortnite.. after they cheated to make themselves look better in those "entertaining videos"
He got caught cheating, he got what he deserved
They ARE treated differently.
If I cheat on my girlfriend, I will eventually (and should) lose her.
If I cheat at my job, I will eventually (and should) lose it.
If I cheat in online games, then yeah, I should be banned and eventually lose the opportunity to play it, doesn't matter if I make money with it or not.
Those oblivious addicted crybabies really need a slap left and right on the face to wake up, because they damage other players online experience, especially when there are 99 other players with you in one round of Fortnite. Some of them have paid lots of money and these dumb cheaters mess up the game experience for them!
Popular game streamers are like idols for kids. If you teach your followers how to cheat, it's the right course of action that you should be banned for life. That's teaching kids how it's rightfully done! Just as you'll need to find a new girl or a new job, you will have to find a new game. Accept it, and move on.
I hope someone sends this comment section to these cheaters. Maybe then they might learn something.
I think when you are found cheating there should be a chance screen to give people chances to stop what there doing and play the normal way but if you lose the second or third strike then you get band because in fortnite some people get band and they spent so much money on skins and stuff and you only get a ban to crush all that cash you spent.
I think the ban should stay for the same reason I think the MLB is right to keep their ban on Pete Rose to the point of not letting him into the Hall of Fame. If the public starts to believe the star players are cheating and the results aren't real, the whole sport could lose its fanbase. And as far as Jarvis having is "life ruined," let's be real. Fame as a pro-gamer generally lasts a few years. Real life was going to come knocking soon enough and he'd have to figure out what he wants to do with his life. And... HE SHOULDN'T HAVE CHEATED.
No, they should not. If you're old enough to sign up for a game, you're old enough to respect the rules.
i think streamers should be held to a higher standard. if you just let them make another account then what's the consequence, everyone will think it's okay to cheat.
Yes, I agree, Streamers and Pro Players deserve a different treatment, they deserve strictier standarts and harsher punishments, if a Pro Player cheats and gets away with it, it will give a bad example to all his followers.
Professionals are typically held to an even higher standard than us regular folk. They, of all people, ought to know better. If the stakes are higher, then that's an even better reason to not do it.
I think that they could be judged differently.
Steamers and content creators should be punished harder.
Because they as a role models are in a position of trust
I agree with the Ban. Don't cheat in online games, it's WRONG. Don't be a cheater.
@Koolaidman84 I'm with you there! Only watching I do is if in in the same room! Watching others okay video games it's like watching paint dry without real interaction.
banning cheaters should be standard, you shouldn't be allowed to cheat because you have a big youtube channel or whatever. If you want to find cheaters, cheat in a single player game, maybe even cheat in a bot mach offline that's fine, but going online to cheat is setting a bad example and expecting to be treated special because you have a following is an even worse example and precedent to set.
The stakes are higher, the pro gamers get paid to game for a living; the last thing on their minds should be cheating. If they do, they should be treated more severely than Average Joe gamer cheating to win so he can "J-O" at night. Maybe a lifetime ban is too much, but the first example needs to be set so others take it seriously.
He probably cheats himself so I'm honestly not even shocked he made a comment like this. Can't be the top fortnite player without cheating, I suppose.
Simple answer? No. It's like the old idea that those with money should get off lightly if they break the law. Mind you, some people still promote this idea.
Utter nonsense. It didn't occur to him that he'd be banned? I'd ban him on the stupidity alone.
@Dragonstar ok boomer
It all comes down to you are ruining someone else's experience when you cheat on a multiplayer game, just because you think oh this is enjoyable content it's still ruining someone else's experience. Now I think people do stupid stuff though, and lifetime ban is not where to go right off the bat, but something like a month or 3 month ban should be allowed, and then if you have 2nd or 3rd strike you are banned for life. I think that should apply for everyone, and definitely should not be any different treatment for content creator over normal players.
Sure you can treat them different, if you liken a casual and “professional gamer” to a casual and professional athlete.
Cheating with aim-bots and the likes, as a “professional gamer” is the same a professional athlete taking performance enhancing drugs and should be punished as such.
Maybe little late to answer, but my opinion is a bit hardcore. I think that streamer should be punished even harder, because they are idols for the younger community and therefore teaching the kids that cheating is fine. They should repay all money gained in their stream(cheat)career and spend it to the anticheatdevelopment.
