Yet another week has just flown by and we now find ourselves in the bitterly cold month of December (unless you're one of the lucky ones enjoying the warmth of summer in Australia). As it's the weekend, Team Nintendo Life has got together once again to talk about which games we'll be enjoying over the next few days. Feel free to read through our posts below, and then join in yourself via the poll and comments section. Enjoy!

Still playing Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! this weekend, as last weekend was a bit of a wash with the Thanksgiving holiday stateside. I’ve earned four badges so far - currently avoiding the Team Rocket hideout in Celadon, though, because I know it’s going to be a long grind with a lot of battles. I just keep going to the department store and buying more accessories in the meantime… Fair warning: my life is consumed by Pokémon, and will be for some time.

For some reason, my weekend gaming exploits always seem to come in contrasting pairs, and this one is no exception. After two long years, Yo-Kai Watch 3 is FINALLY coming to the West and I've got a review build to sink my teeth into. I don't really know why I love this series so much, but I'm all in on a final 3DS hurrah before the next one eventually arrives on Switch. I'll also be leaping headfirst into the prehistorical proving grounds of ARK: Survival Evolved. Can a game as big as this really work on Switch? I'll be breaking out my best loincloth and wooden spear combo to find out...

Earlier this week, a friend of mine incredibly kindly let me join his family plan for the Nintendo Switch Online service (I've been hesitant to buy my own subscription as it just didn't feel worth it for my own gaming lifestyle). Thanks to this, I've finally been able to allow myself back into Splatoon 2 and I had forgotten just how amazing the game really is.
I hadn't played it for a good five months or so until this week, so I nervously dipped my toes back into the safe (and rankless) Turf Wars at first. Fast forward a couple of days, though, and now I'm right back in the heart of the ranked games; I need a bit of practice to get back to my best, but I'm enjoying every splat, every clever play, and every juicy victory as they come. Oh Splatoon 2, how I've missed you.

This weekend I plan to spend every second I possibly can in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! because I know I likely won’t be returning to it for a good month or two when Super Smash Bros. Ultimate finally arrives next week. I’ve got to admit the streamlined approach of these Let's Go games has really grown on me. The new entries have even encouraged me to start playing Pokémon GO on mobile again.
When I’m not focused on becoming a Pokémon master, I might sneak in a quick session of Horizon Chase Turbo. I also downloaded the Sega AGES version of Out Run from the eShop earlier this week, so I’m sure I’ll make some time for that as well.

A new month is here - a smashing month if you will - and this is the last weekend before my whole life is shaped by a certain release next week. Thus the time has come to complete the last chapter of Valkyria Chronicles 4, rounding up one of my personal GOTY nominees with a bang. Shmup fever is running high due to timely eShop releases of R-Type Dimensions EX, Stardust Galaxy Warriors: Stellar Climax and the utterly brilliant Rival Megagun, and there's no excuse to neglect my driving skills with more GRIP and Road Redemption sessions scheduled as well.
Speaking of those same skills, it probably won’t surprise you that my game of the week is Horizon Chase Turbo. In fact, it was already another of my personal Game of the Year nominees and I am very happy to see the Switch version running without compromise when compared to the PC version I picked up earlier this year. Blue skies forever!

This weekend I’ll be picking up my recent save file of Civilization 6.
My goal on Saturday is to end a trade dispute between India and France, though this is complicated by recent international tariffs that were imposed due to a land dispute on the Mumbai border. All of this is really straining relations between these two world powers and, more importantly, all their respective city-states. My advisors suggest that not somehow aussaging these economic sanctions could ultimately lead to a decrease in population for my local Brazilian cities if, in fact, an unintended loss of tourism came to pass by the feared lack of luxury resources and that consequential loss of income.
I’m looking into it, but it’s possible the only workaround is a casus belli that my citizens can rally around; perhaps a religiously imposed conflict that plays into the return of the Great Prophet, a unit I recently received after winning a wonder race against Theodore Roosevelt. It’s very likely, however, that the physical fallout from even a popular conflict may ultimately impact my population just the same, as casualties of war could mount, considering the geographical impact the mountain range bordering my civilization to the west imposes. Or just maybe, I might expand my civilization to the north to forgo this, though I worry this may anger neighboring countries who are still upset over my autocratic leanings.
Ha ha, just kidding guys! I’m totally just playing Let’s Go! Pikachu again.

For this week, and the next month. Even after smash bros releases, I will still be playing Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu. I really enjoyed the game, I only have a few problems with it. For the end of the year, I'm really going to be addicted to both Smash Bros and Pokemon LGPE. I really don't know how I will be able to organize my time for study and video games... lol.
Let's Go Pikachu and Ocarina of Time.
Horison Chase Turbo (faaantastic game)
CIV6
Let’s go
Horizon chase turbo is incredible- thought I would give it a quick go last night before bed. Big mistake, three hours later finally turned it off...
The usual for me, which is Splatoon 2. Tempted to start Paper Mario 64 (it's the only one I haven't played!). Outside of Ninty, I will dabble in Halo 5 and possibly CoD BO4.
I’ll play some Pokémon Le’s Go Pikachu and the new DLC in Kirby Star Allies.
@Octoguy What is your honest opinion on Kirby? Keep watching videos of it - tempted but keep hearing it's short and easy?
After too many hours of Diablo, I will have a game-free weekend to get the dopamine to a reasonable level
Warframe, Warframe and maybe a little of Warframe.
Diablo 3 and Civ 6 are consuming my time. The convenience of a handheld makes such games much more enjoyable!
Hoping I get my Switch back from Nintendo next week. In the meantime, I downloaded Breath of the Wild for my son on his Switch. I didn't tell him so he could discover it himself, he actually cried happy tears! He's really enjoying playing it all over again on Switch, we beat it on Wii U originally. Such an incredible game.
Civ VI on my main Switch, Smash Bros. Ultimate on the homebrewed one, can't wait for my preoder to come but trying to not advance too deep into the latter.
I finally got Celeste after waiting ages. I might dip my toes back into Splatoon 2 as well seeing as I'm one of those unlucky few who cant get Smash on release day
This week I will be mostly playing
Pokémon SoulSilver (frankly just grinding for the final battle)
Mario Odyssey (gotta farm for the seasonal outfits)
Trying to complete Owlboy on Switch and Shadow of the Tomb Raider on PS4. Enjoying Darksiders 3 despite the average reviews. High hopes for Just Cause 4 next week.
@Nye1779 it WAS quite short and easy, but with all the DLC it has received the game improved a lot. And if you are a Kirby fan the game is an absolute must-have.
I just downloaded Abzû this morning so I'll be playing that
Pokemon Let's Go Eevee. Am really enjoying the chain catching element, although it is very easy to run out of money doing that! 😆
Mr Grizz needs his eggs!
Pokemon let's go Pikachu, Loving it although it seems very easy to me ( the fights). I defeated Onix with my pikachu, which seems weird:P (electric vs rock, rock pokemon are stronger right?)
Nier : Automata!
25$ on Steam....excellent game
Haven’t touched another game since Diablo 3 was slotted into my Switch.
I’ve been chasing a friends scores on Pinball FX3 but Gonner, Rogue Legacy and Runner3 are all telling me I’ve got less than an hour on the clock. I need to get back to Diablo III too.
Pokémon Go! Been saving up all my evolutions for quadruple xp, which doesn’t seem to be working 🤔 C’est la vie ☺️
Probably online games like Splatoon 2 and Mario Tennis Aces, doesn't make much sense in starting a new single player game with Smash Ultimate out in less than a week.
I might play through Abzû again, hopefully it won't crash before the credits like last time
-and of course more Pokémon!
Pokemon and Spintires Mudrunner with my son, Warframe and maybe even some Ark by myself. Ark may be pretty junky, but I still feel a little compelled to get further.
Not going to have much gaming time this weekend but what I do have will be spent with the excellent crash bandicoot trilogy. Completed the 1st and nearly half way through 2. I love these games!
I just started getting into Hand of Fate 2 last night. It's been fun so far. Going to alternate that with R-Type Dimensions. I'm so happy to have R-Type on the Switch. It is truly one of the greatest shmups ever.
Some multiplayer with my kids here and there, mostly ARMS and Puyo Puyo Tetris.
Playing Let’s Go Eevee. The kids and I want to finish it before Smash comes out next week. It was going to be a Christmas present (SSBU) but I got them two other games on Black Friday so I decided they could play it right away.
Tempted to get CIV 6 but not sure if it is for me. Put D3 aside for alittle and started MHGU again last night as i wanted to check out the online part and see if i can increase my rank. Had a blast all night and am hooked again.
My son is getting his swimming diploma today and i got him Starlink as a present so likely we will be playing this coming days.
I ended golf story, such a funny game, loved it, so I'll focus on Pokemon let's go eevee, i gotta mix it witb a bit o mario rabbits too, i haven't finished that game
Hmm, I wonder what everyone will be playing next weekend...
I'm digging right into The Messenger's new game+ mode that was just added. I love that game so much!
I'm also coin grinding in Mario Odyssey to unlock all the costumes...it takes an obscene amount to unlock some of them.
I will probably also play a few cups of FAST RMX. Such a fun, fast, and amazing looking racer!
Sunday my sister is coming to visit, and I'll probably let her watch me play a little of Night in the Woods. I played the first chapter of the game with her a couple weekends ago while basically doing the voice acting myself since the dialogue is just text (and I figured it'd be more fun than just letting her read them herself), and we had a lot of fun.
@Captain_EO That's really sweet. Hope I have kids someday, haha.
I'm playing the new DLC in Kirby. This game was a lot of fun.
@Octoguy Thank you- I have honestly never played a Kirby game before, but I like the look of this! May give it a go...
Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice. Although I'll probably also pick Splatoon 2 back up in anticipation of that new Splatfest.
Something “clicked” and I’m addicted to Starlink now, which is a slight problem, seeing as I’m mere days away from Smash stealing my attention entirely. I have to scramble to wrap up saving Atlas and defeating the Elite Four in Let’s Go before everything gets eclipsed next Friday.
Just finished guns gore and cannoli 2. Actually very good game once you get into it. Lot better than I expected
What the hell!
An actual Nintendo Life writer is to tight to buy a Nintendo sub subscription?
LOL
I’m really into Civ 6, like, really into it. I voted for Let’s Go too, but that probably won’t get a lot of time cause I’m sucked into Civ 6 lol.
@Nye1779 I’m glad I helped, Star Allies is a great way to get to know the Kirby franchise.
It's a lazy weekend for me so I'm predicting a lot of Okami HD getting played.
1. Started Darksiders 2 on ps4
2. Civilization 6 on Switch
3. Castlevania Order of Ecclesia
I bought the, Zelda expansion pack while it was on offer but have I done the right thing?
I finished the original game having completed half the shrines, that means I have only got about 60% of the total hearts. I have a feeling that's not enough to complete the Trial of the Sword and I don't want to go back and do more shrines.
For me Zelda was about the exploration rather than the puzzles.
This weekend I'll be playing more Hollow Knight, Pokemon Let's Go, and hopefully some RDR2 online.
I got back into Rocket League, so a little bit of that, some 99Vidas and of course, YS VIII. I`m on chapter 5, but I`m guessing at least another 10 hours to finish it.
And thats it. Thursday I`ll get Football Manager 2019 which I guess I`ll be playing non-stop, and of Course, I`ll get Smash.
I'm gonna continue my trek in Let's Go Pikachu this weekend! I'm about to face Sabrina at the Saffron gym. Finally got an amazing team that I'll probably stick with until the end.
Other than that, reliving my Smash glory days until Ultimate releases and I can finally play my preloaded copy. 😁
A question to Pokemon players. Am I the only one who only catches pokemon I actually intend to use? It's silly because it's a game, but I really dont like catching for catching's sake
@Nye1779 it’s very short, very easy and basically plays itself because your CPU players kill bad guys before you can friend them.
Zelda botw on my trusty WII U
@MattFox yes lol
I'll be agonizing over every little mistake in SEGA AGES OutRun even though I know I'm still so rusty. Hopefully, get back to sub 4'55" runs unlike this one:
When I can't take any more, I'll be agonizing over figuring out Automation setups in Oxygen Not Included.
EDIT: Yup, up there in the big leagues now! Made 3 mistakes that cost me, rough estimate, 6 seconds. Time to take a breather!

@mossimac yeah that's what I heard, may wait for a sale, not like I don't have anything to play!!! Thanks!
@Drussa lovely, I hope your son enjoys his present!
@Octoguy Yeah cheers for that- may still wait for a sale as not really come down in price since release. My backlog means I really don't need any more games. But it looks so shiny....
@Giygas_95 thanks. The first game he fell in love with was Pikmin 3 on Wii U, I will always love the Wii U for that alone!
I’m sure I will play some other stuff but horizon chase turbo multiplayer with the wife and kids is definitely on deck.
@Captain_EO I only played through that game once, and it's been a long time. It'd probably be basically a brand new game to me at this point. I did really like it though.
Hoping to get to half of the story of Octopath!
1. Kurikin : Nano Island Story (NDS)
Still leveling up my Acid pH Kins
2. ARMS (Switch)
Play some bout Vs cpu while waiting in Wedding party.
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)
Same as arms. Play some tracks while waiting in Wedding party.
Seeing as I beat the messenger earlier in the week, I've started on some of my black Friday deals. I've about 4 or 5 hours into LA noire and I've played a few levels in Rayman legends. But even more so I've been fully engulfed in re revelations 2 at the moment. Trying to finish it by early next week. Loving it so far.
Having our weekly Smash 4 get together. One last time 🤗. Gonna try Mario Rabbids, friend bought a copy on BF. Tempted to grab Ark, but I’ll have to see how present shopping wraps up today.
Warframe, L.A. Noir (need to get further), and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online 😊.
Starting next Friday it will be nonstop Smash Bros. lol.
Not loads lof gaming time for me this weekend but will probably get in a bit of warframe. I want to play through oxenfree and then finally start mario odysee, but i can't seem to stop with warframe. Its wierd, i don't get many 'amazing' type of monents playing it, but yet i seem to be hopelessly addicted.
Might also get a few games of pinball in - picked up a few zen tables in the sale. I'm not very good at it but it's a nice little time filler.
@sikthvash play Paper Mario 64! While I found Sticker Star and Color Splash to be quite disappointing, if you enjoyed Thousand Year Door (my 2nd favourite game of all time) you'll absolutely love 64. It is a truly, truly special game
Horizon Chase Turbo, Paladins, & may fit in a bit of Pokemon Go.
I just got Kamen Rider Climax Scramble on Switch, so I'll be playing that in between Final Fantasy XIV
I've started off my day playing Get Up Early (ugh) and Car Service At Dealership. I might get into some Fire Emblem Heroes while I'm here though.
On the 3DS front, I'll be playing some Super Mario Kart. I've never played the game and am not sure what to think of it yet, but it's interesting to see where the MK series began.
On the Wii U, I'm still powering through Golden Sun: The Lost Age. There's so much to do and explore that I expect it'll remain my main game for at least another week or two.
Have a fun, safe, and blessed weekend all!
Some RDR2 and some portable Warframe/Wolfenstein 2. I seem to play my Switch portable more than anything now. Coming off the back of RDR2,which i know isn't really a fair comparison, Switch games on the tv don't seem as appealing 😉
Super Mario party, wolfenstein 2, and a little breath of the wild just doing nothing in particular
@Captain_EO i want pikmin on switch
Breath of the Wild for me. Only just started playing it recently, didn't like it for a while but it's suddenly clicked and I can't stop playing.
Also played Mutant Mudds Deluxe which was great fun.
Forza -PC (In my Pikachu Jaguar C-X75 😀)
StarLink -Switch ($39 black Friday deal)
Wish I had a 3D printer to make a desk stand for the StarLink StarFox ship.
Going to pick up the Spyro Reignited trilogy on PS4 for my wife who had a birthday this past week so that will probably limit my own gaming time as its her favorite franchise of all time. I might get into some Wolfenstein 2 in portable mode on Switch if she ends up taking over the tv.
I’m probably gonna play Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (the new Mythra “censored” update is out!) and a little Warframe. I may pick up ARK soon, but Smash will probably take over my life soon...
Picked up DBZ FighterZ onot Black Friday for $25 and that has been dominating my play time. So much to dive into. It's been awhile since I have really delved into a fighter. (I need to get SOUP CALIBER 6, lol ₩
All Darksiders III (PS4) this weekend.
@Benexcelsior That is a Fantastic game! (and great price)... enjoy.
It was super buggy when I played it on PC. Hope it is ironed out.
How is Warframe not on this list? That’s what I’ll be playing all weekend.
Also, a “staff writer” for Nintendo Life waits for a friend to let him mooch off of his family plan because he doesn’t think the online service is “worth it”?
Wow. I don’t know if your terrible decision-making is more related to a ridiculous level of stinginess or to a lack of dedication to your job, but I’m impressed either way.
No wonder you put out Fortnite plug pieces every week. You can’t get online to play anything else.
@GingerNinja @Gamer83 Also Got Darksiders 3 - only played it for a sec to see it. The first 3 enemies right at the start (near the campfire) ganged up on me and gave me a beat down 🙄
Looked good what little I played, enemies seem to pack a punch now.
Pokémon Go, Smash 3DS, ARMS, and maybe my SNES Classic or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
I’m doing a lot of drawing this weekend for a Smash Ultimate countdown I’m doing! Can’t wait for next Friday!!
Everyone have an amazing, safe, and blessed weekend! 😊
I finally finished dark souls which I thought was amazing. Now I’m playing torna dlc really enjoying it so far.
Went back to Kirby Star Allies after the update hit. I recently bought the Mario Tennis game so I’ll be playing that too. Maybe Mario Kart 8, and Capcom Beat em up Bundle.
Horizon Chase Turbo - very fun game! Highly recommended.
I work pretty much all weekend though, which sucks.
Now that free online play works:
Smash, Smash, and more Smash
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
I can finally say I'm done with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and it's expansion Torna-The Golden Country which I finished last night.Absolutely amazing jrpg (not as good as Dragon Quest XI though which I'm still playing) so after nearly 200 hours on the same game im moving onto Shining Dragon Resonance on the Switch which seems fun at the moment..
Also will be playing Detroit Become Human on the Ps4....an absolutely amazing experience apart from the fact the only choices I make in this game are bad ones..
@Agramonte Nice car!For a sec I thought it was your own lol
More Smash for Wii U to keep my skills up, but that's not all. I also downloaded Warframe last night after doing some research on it, and I will probably give it a go this weekend to see what I think of it.
Horizon Chas Turbo is amazingly fun. I just love it! I've already played geometry Wars 3 at a friend's house this weekend. I'll probably play more horizon chase, civ 6, r type, mini Metro, and the endlessly addictive Kingdom New Lands(so excited for the sequel!)
I work at a small bookshop in NYC and December is an absolutely bonkers month. Six-day work-weeks and the days are non-stop activity. Therefore I'll have very little energy in the evening and will most likely fire up Stardew Valley in bed for a tranquil 15 minutes or so before it's lights out.
Read Dead 2 - am on chapter 3 but am struggling with the slow pace. To me it's nowhere near as good as RDR1...
Diablo 3. Great game. Loving it on the switch
Still persisting with my holiday playthrough of A Link to the Past. I love how you can play the dungeons out of order if you know what to do--immediately after the Palace of Darkness I found the secret block just south of the Lost Woods to get to the Thieves' Hideout long before I was technically supposed to. I've only got a few more of these impeccably-designed dungeons left before facing Ganon--it always feels a bit bittersweet when I reach this point! I'm trying to pace myself now so that way I can save the final fight for Christmas Eve--it's my tradition to beat Ganon on the evening before Christmas. I know it doesn't really make sense, but that's my tradition and I have no intention of stopping now!
Also on the SNES Classic I've been replaying Super Castlevania IV to get hyped for Smash Ultimate. I cannot wait to try out the Belmonts in Smash, and I'm super eager to take down Dracula in classic mode and World of Light!
I was hoping to finish SOuth Park FBW before Smash Bros is released but... Pokémon LGP is just eating my hours...
Tinker (G4W) - Finishing the Let's Play I was watching.
Fallout 3 (G4W) - Another victim of the client server closure. I'm now starting a really long Let's Play on this as well.
What in the World? (WP) - Still trudging along on this...
Grip (great game!), Legendary Fishing, and like every weekend for the last few months, Ys VIII.
Well, with all the chatter that has been happening in the Xenoblade Chronicles X forum my desire to play has been rekindled again.
Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu. Want to finish the main story before Smash releases cause I won't be playing anything else for some time once it does.
Warframe! 👍🏻 I’m getting seriously addicted to it.
I’m going to be playing some Super Mario Party with friends. Already tried out the mini games this morning and so far, it’s been a barrel of fun.
Despite let's go games being heavily advertised and lots of coverage prior release I was not particular bothered about the game. It wasn't until the NL review it made me realise I could actually like it. Pokemon blue was 1 of my favourites as a kid and to see it remastered and keeping the same music. I am completely lost in it. I feel like I'm 10year old again! Yes it's nostalgia talking. This is the game I'll be playing this weekend and over the Xmas holidays.
@sebmeisnerwl what update are you referring to? I have not heard about anything...
Mostly starlink as I am having lots of fun with it (is kind of repetitive but at the same time it always adds just something different and I would say is the best looking game on switch so far).
If I need a break I have bought also stick of truth (never played before but the fracture but whole is awesome and everyone says this is the better one)
@Balta666 They updated XC2 for its anniversary. Update notes are here: https://www.perfectly-nintendo.com/xenoblade-chronicles-2-software-updates/
I recently set up my Wii to my TV and started playing PSO EP 3 CARD Rev. I had it for a long time, now I'm playing it more. I also ordered Medabots Rokusho for GBA a few days ago and I'm trying to get a GBA to play it; there was news about Medabots project for smartphones in Japan and started getting into more. Today I started watching the anime on YT and it's pretty good. I hope there is Medabots for Nintendo Switch because I have LBX and enjoyed playing that, but it sucks there isn't one.
Guacamelee - in preparation for G2, Cluedo and probably some Warframe.
Pokémon Let‘s Go Pikachu
Warframe
@RadoGoji how is Kamen rider? I am tempted but my backlog is huge...
Playing eevee for the switch, resident evil 5 & Friday the 13th for Xbox x
@MajorasLapdog Agreed, the latter entries have been a bit of a disappointment. TYD was a masterpiece and remains in my top 10 games of all time. Thanks! I will hopefully get a chance to play tomorrow.
@Ryu_Niiyama I'm having fun with it. It's not super deep or anything, but I feel like after I beat the story and unlock all the characters that this will be fun to return to every so often.
Mario Tennis Aces - December Update! New Co-op Challenge!
I'm just playing ARMS to death right now.
I'm juggling a few over the weekend. Mostly Pokémon Let's Go, but I'm also checking the Kirby update. In addition, I came across a cartridge for Super Mario Land 2 at the local game store and picked it up. So I'll be playing through that on my Game Boy Pocket/Super Game Boy.
Got Steamworld Dig 2 on Black Friday and having a blast. And some Octopath
Warframe 50hrs in and really enjoying it
Rival Megagun, Super Hydorah and 99Vidas. Was a great coop gaming night. But 99Vidas was way to hard for us...
Rival Megagun is the winner for us.
Lets go pikachu, and kirby star allies!
Wonder Boy and Aladdin for SNES. I’ve really gone old school lol
@Agramonte The graphics are so-so, but they created a patch that fix everything else. I just finished ending A. I highly recommend this game to anyone with a PC or PS4! Awesome story.
The little time I’ve had for gaming this weekend went to Diablo III. I’m getting near the end of the campaign. Great game and an excellent addition to Switch!
Kirby Star Allies Wave 3. Nuff said.
DK Tropical Freeze
@baller98 thanks man! Yes, I was... I got it - It shows up on the 5th 😃
Picked up a used copy of Mario Kart Wii and started re-earning my cups in that one (I sold my copy off with the Wii before getting the Wii U).
