Re: Nintendo Alarmo Is Getting A Kirby-Themed Update

SwitchplayerJohn

I woke up today to Kirby, the Alarmo works very well, for me it's exactly like the video, I roll over a bit and when I get up usually a couple minutes after grooving to Kirby music I get a victory hooray from Kirby, nice way to wake up.

And as a bonus the Kirby theme on Nintendo Today was Kirby sleep.

@foursider So if you get up before the alarm goes off it should detect your not there and stay off. The one major downside to Alarmo is for couples and pets, although my wife wakes up up 45 min before I do and so Alarmo wakes me at 7am and if I get out of bed it turns off.

@foursider As a person who genuinely wakes up to Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo the music isn’t what drives you out of bed but the “heya” from Link fighting Bokoblins or the sound of Mario collecting coins. And because you don’t need to touch the alarm when you get up you get a victory sound.

Re: Feature: Who Is Devon Pritchard? - Meet The Next NOA President Stepping Into Bowser's Boots

SwitchplayerJohn

The real story is not Devon, the real story is legend Satora Shabata is joining NOA to run things as CEO and will be calling the shots on most things I imagine. Former president of Nintendo Europe he brings a very Iwata energy with him. Expect the alignment between NCL and NOA to continue as Nintendo transitions from video games only to a lifestyle and brand company.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Doug Bowser Announces Retirement

Doug had to go, the botched communication and release of Switch 2 from a marketing side has been pretty bad. The entire operation is now really fully run by Japan now anyway so the days of US president fighting back are over. Remember it wasn't Japan that was running those terrible Wii U ads in English speaking countries.

The VERY first thing that needs to change is a top down fix of communication and strategy around Nintendo Directs. Leakers are going to leak, surprise and delight is going only go so far. What would the reception to Metroid Prime 4 be if by the third trailer they showed off the bike and open areas? Why wait so long.

What would the reception be to DK Bananza if they showed off the Pauline DK hook earlier. They should have been saying it was the EAD Tokyo team from the off.

They showed WAY too much of MK World in the Switch 2 direct only to repeat themselves in the Direct. Why have a direct then?

Hiding the costs, game key cards and other unpleasant news so YouTubers and game press can totally control the narrative even to the point where there was misinformation about the prices. Not good. And they stayed silent way too long while this was happening.

They NEED to sort out marketing and communication, the games, the direction of the company, the prices are totally out of their hands.

Re: Nintendo Is "Acting To Protect The Industry" With Switch 2 Game Key Cards, Says Ex-Capcom Composer

SwitchplayerJohn

Nintendo has ALWAYS lost when using carts over disks. It cost them Final Fantasy to Playstation on the N64. Bigger game releases on the Switch opted to only put part of the game on the cart due to space.

Game Key Cards are the only stop gap to 100% digital with Switch 2. And honestly if Nintendo stopped selling physical game media physical at retail would probably collapse entirely.

EA who pays pennies for a disk on Playstation and Xbox (note ZERO physical media for PC) and is paying $$$ more for the cart on Switch 2 for the exact same game at the same price. They simply won't tolerate the lost profits and instead will go 100% digital on Switch 2 or worse yet skip the platform altogether.

The truth is physical media for portable games consoles is not the way forward. Instead people should accept either game key cards or prepare to go 100% digital. The Steam Deck and ROG Ally do not use or accept any physical media at all.

Re: ICYMI: Nintendo Highlights 'Super NES - Nintendo Classics' Features Update

SwitchplayerJohn

Ok so for whatever reason I don't own the SNES controller (probably because it's always out of stock) for NSO. BUT I do own the N64 controller for NSO and it has IMO the BEST D-Pad experience! It is just so natural, sadly N64 games rarely used it.

Now that button re-mapping has come to SNES on Switch 2 the N64 is GOAT for SNES games. A nice big very accurate D-Pad with easy to access buttons and shoulder buttons if you need them.

I highly recommend it if you're looking for a great controller for SNES and the N64 is available to you.

Re: Developers Reportedly Still Struggling To Get Switch 2 Dev Kits

SwitchplayerJohn

I don't know what's going on, I don't and have never worked for Nintendo. But I have a feeling this is down to Nintendo giving into their worst impulses and locking everything down due to leaks, which happened anyways!
And then their whole house is not in order, marketing is a mess, no dev kits and it just seems like they are flying by the seat of their pants with NO strategy on how to take control of the situation.
Of course NCL is to blame, but I also think Doug Bowser is not the kind of leader for NOA to push back on the bat crap crazy that comes out of Japan sometimes.

Re: Talking Point: Where On Earth Are The Switch 2 Soundtracks On Nintendo Music?

SwitchplayerJohn

So we keep looking at Nintendo Music as a throwaway Nintendo going half-arse into releasing their music. But actually it is a service like Nintendo Classics. And as such they are holding the good soundtracks for when they need them the most.

The FREE Gamechat feature is coming to an end in March, it is very likely by March the price is going up significantly! And in order to make the pain of that price hike a little easier it would be the perfect time to release MKW and DKB soundtracks to Nintendo Music.

I also think they are going to time some highly requested Nintendo Classic releases with a price increase.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Is Laser-Targeting Your Toddlers With This New 'My Mario' Line

Honestly none of this is NEW for Nintendo, the company once made strollers! What is new is that they are leveraging everything to hook in kids and adults into their IP from pretty much birth. Pokémon has been doing this for years already, anyone still using Pokémon Smile?

Nintendo doing expensive high end boutique toys is about right for them. It has worked well for LEGO and I think Nintendo will always focus on these high end products instead of cash grab teddies at your local toy shop.
