Re: Former Nintendo Employee Admits He's Frustrated With Switch Online

SwitchplayerJohn

Without any inside knowledge whatsoever here is my theory.
Nintendo announced allot of stuff would come to NSO and it made it sound like an Xbox Live or PSN type service. Instead we got a half baked app experience which only allows for certain Nintendo only games to use voice chat. No party chat, no messaging and servers that barely work.

Remember they delayed NSO until fall of 2018. It was on the backdrop of their terrible online service they announced NES games would come to switch. These were pretty much all first party owned and were already emulated for the NES Classic.

The was never meant to be a proper service of NES games, just to shut up critics of the online paywall.

Then they knew they needed more so they did SNES games. But note no new features really.

Then Nintendo made the Expansion Pak again no third party N64 games and some expansions with it, but at a much higher price.

They have no intention in ever offering a proper gamepass style service with NSO. It is just a way to make extra revenue while they spend virtually nothing on it. They finally upgraded their early 2000's online infrastructure but where is the upgrades to the online service?

Nintendo this generations knows they struck gold with Switch. And rather then the expensive gimmicks like StreetPass, Miiverse and other stuff they used to do, they decided to just make money and not spend money. Nintendo is in a pure cash mode.

We of course buy it because they keep the family jewels locked away (Gamecube, GBA, etc) until they find the right moment to sell it to us again.

It is the same for the Mario Kart Booster Course Pass. All of the tracks are ripped straight out of Mario Kart Tour. So they are making money on the tracks twice! Even the original tracks and remakes are meant for MK Tour. This is how come they are willing to make so many tracks, MK Tour loot boxes are paying for it. The booster course pass is just extra revenue for Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Releases Two Utterly Charming Switch Commercials In Japan

I gonna be honest, those commercials/adverts hit the feels like those McDonald's ads do in the UK. I think they are perfect for those casuals in Japan. Look how clubhouse games 51 worldwide classics are still being shown off. What a perfect showcase for a fun family device that little kids and parents can play or teens or 20 somethings.

It really is a super versatile little console!

Re: Nintendo Switch Led UK Console Sales In February, But Numbers Are Down Year-On-Year

Even without a shortage the Switch is quickly saturating the market and it's getting long in the tooth. The economy is going to hell in most western nations so spending on entertainment is going to go down.

Nintendo knows this and that is why they now have theme parks and feature films coming out. Also they are probably making far more revenue per switch then they were with say the Wii or DS in game attach and digital subscriptions.

Xbox One launched with NO games for Kinect 2.0. Considering it was packed in the box Microsoft did almost nothing with the camera. Kinect Sports Rivals eventually launched but it was a whole new art style leaving behind the personality of the Avatars. But it makes sense as most of the features of the Xbox 360 were abandoned and Xbox One was fairly barebones at launch.

Re: Talking Point: Should The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Library Expand Faster?

SwitchplayerJohn

You do realise that the games shown at the reveal is all the N64 games we will get. This is no gamepass style service. This is a way to sell you a bunch of DLC and A few back catalog games most don't care about. They don't bother involving any 3rd party companies. Like with SNES where is the 3rd party games? It is pure profit for them where most companies would sell them as a collection for $40 a long time ago.

Re: Poll: Metroid Dread Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

SwitchplayerJohn

I only played the original Metroid on the NES as a kid, I remember beating it over a weekend at a friend's house. I also saw how crazy collector rare the Samus Returns collector edition was so splurged for the Special Edition. It is really nice!

Also got the new Switch OLED but went for black as the white would not look good in my living room.

Re: 'Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece' Collection Brings The Entire Saga To Switch

Here is a fact. Square-Enix is not going to re-port 10 games to run on the underpowered Switch. Even games like KH3 would not run at all or look horrible. This is the only way we are seeing KH on the Switch. If you prefer to own the games and boxes then there are other platforms which you already own including PC which you can do that.

Cloud streaming is going to be way more common as we go forward so prepare your expectations.
