Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Kart World?

SuperBro64

In my opinion, the best thing about Mario Kart World is that it is the epitome of the game design vision I've loved about the series in the last few entries, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe especially.

Namely, that the Mushroom Kingdom isn't just a collection of abstract obstacle-filled levels where all you do is reach the flagpole and win. Rather, it feels like a fully realized, interconnected world, where Mario Kart is a major televised event watched by millions of viewers, and where there are real businesses that provide valued services like Fuzzy Battery, Morton Construction, Boomerang Bros. Airlines, Rainbow Exploration Agency, etc.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was already fantastic in this regard, but Mario Kart World makes it even better. Various aspects like how you can travel directly from one track to another in real-time instead of merely going through menu screens, that when you are at a high-enough altitude you can see nearby tracks off in the distance, the landscape being peppered with realistic architecture like power lines, suspension bridges, freeways, and ski resorts, and lastly the end credit visuals, really sell the Mushroom Kingdom as being a inhabited place that you'd definitely want to go and visit. I think it's the closest the Mario franchise as a whole has gotten to making its universe feel real.

Overall, a 10/10 game for me. Oh, and it has the best Rainbow Road in the entire series. =)

My first Zelda game, so I might be biased, but I've never understood why people disliked the sailing in the original so much, when you get to listen to the Great Sea music, one of the best songs in the entire series in my opinion.

Plus, seeing the islands come into view over the horizon as you approach is really cool. It even takes the height of the island into account, like how the Forsaken Fortress actually appears into view first before the smaller islands around it do.

Chiming in again to say that the people here commenting things like, "This is toxic positivity, everyone will just be blindly praising it, why would anyone defend such a garbage series?"... Saying that seriously just feels like toxic negativity to me.

Again, just because someone is liking something that may be flawed, it doesn't mean they are ignoring the flaws. It means that they can still like it despite the flaws.

I just really dislike all the assumptions being made in this comment section.

As someone who still appreciates Pokémon despite its flaws (I really liked Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl), this sounds very nice.

I really don't understand why people here are thinking this will only be toxic positivity... Toxic negativity exists too... And just because you enjoy something doesn't mean you are being oblivious to its issues.

The "let people enjoy things" mentality can be annoying, yes, but I think the "don't ask questions, just consume product" mentality is equally annoying.

Re: Goodbye Productivity, 'Cookie Clicker' Is Coming To Switch Next Week

SuperBro64

@Ryu_Niiyama The basic point is that you generate cookies by clicking on the cookie.

When you have enough cookies, you can buy upgrades that help you generate cookies faster automatically.

When you have even more cookies, you can buy even better upgrades that help you generate cookies even faster automatically.

This repeats until you've generated cookies in the billions, trillions, quadrillions, and beyond.

There's a bit more to it than that, but that's the general point of idle games like this. Generate enough of some resource so that you can buy upgrades to generate it faster and watch that sweet number skyrocket.

I still think that the most perfect time for Zelda: Four Swords Adventures to have been rereleased would've been on the Wii U. Then, instead of having to buy a bunch of cables to connect Game Boy Advances to a GameCube, you could simply connect a bunch of 3DS systems to the Wii U through wi-fi, like how you could use your 3DS as a controller for Smash 4 on Wii U.

But now the 3DS is long gone, so they can't do such a setup anymore... So I wonder how Nintendo would handle the multiplayer in Four Swords Adventures if it ever gets added to Switch Online...

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (3rd May)

In Super Mario Run, after grinding a lot of Toad Rally I've finally amassed the 50,000 Toads I needed to purchase Peach's Tent. With that, I've now fully 100% completed the game with all levels finished and all items collected! 😀

I think Super Mario Run is very underrated. It takes the common endless runner genre and perfectly meshes it with classic Mario platforming. Getting good enough at the game to see your character gracefully acrobat their way around each level provides a very unique thrill unlike that of any other Mario game. The fact that Super Mario Run as a mobile app is a cheap one-time purchase with no ads is the icing on the cake. 🙂

Happy gaming, everyone!

Re: Nintendo Direct: Mario Kart World: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?

SuperBro64

Personally, I think the game could've instead costed no more than $70 maximum, but I still think it looked really cool and fun in this Direct. It helped that I was able to watch and discuss it with my fellow game-loving dad, who works at Nintendo of America in the technical department and has already been able to try the game himself a little bit, including with the new GameChat feature lol.

One of the things I think is most underrated about the Mario Kart series in the last few installments, especially Mario Kart 8, is how "real" it feels, perhaps more so than anything else in the whole Mario franchise. I see the world the games take place in with all of the fake brands dotting the courses (Fuzzy Battery, Boomerang Bros. Airlines, Rainbow Exploration Agency, etc.), as well as the in-universe Mario Kart Television broadcasting company filming it all, and it really feels like an inviting, believeable universe where Mario Kart is a major televised event watched by millions around the world. Mario Kart World definitely looks to be a natural evolution of that core design philosophy.

Overall, I'd give this Direct a 9/10. I'm very hyped for it! =)

I've never understood why people dislike the sailing in the original version so much, when you get to listen to the Great Sea music, one of the best songs in the entire series IMO.

Also, you can add me as someone that overall prefers the original version's graphics for not having the overpowering bloom. And the lack of Tingle Tuner functionality in the HD version hurts a bit, especially since it was replaced by the Tingle Bottle that's now completely unusable now that Miiverse is shut down.

Overall though, both versions of the game are great.

Re: Random: Yep, Nintendo Switch 2 Game Cartridges Still Taste Disgusting

SuperBro64

Somewhat related, but I'm sure most of us remember that 3DS cartridges had a little notch on the side to prevent them from being inserted into a normal DS.

But it appears that Switch 2 cartridges have no such notch to differentiate their shape from Switch 1 cartridges. Hopefully nothing bad happens if someone were to insert a Switch 2 cartridge into a Switch 1.

Re: Community: Which Switch 2 Games Are You Wishlisting?

SuperBro64

Not saying it still isn't expensive, but I'd like to inform everyone that sees this comment that the physical version of Mario Kart World will cost $80 just like the digital version. The rumor of the physical version costing $90 is false.

This was confirmed to me by my dad, who works in the technical department at Nintendo of America over here in Washington State and has been able to try out the Switch 2 himself.
