Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (3rd May)

SuperBro64

In Super Mario Run, after grinding a lot of Toad Rally I've finally amassed the 50,000 Toads I needed to purchase Peach's Tent. With that, I've now fully 100% completed the game with all levels finished and all items collected! 😀

I think Super Mario Run is very underrated. It takes the common endless runner genre and perfectly meshes it with classic Mario platforming. Getting good enough at the game to see your character gracefully acrobat their way around each level provides a very unique thrill unlike that of any other Mario game. The fact that Super Mario Run as a mobile app is a cheap one-time purchase with no ads is the icing on the cake. 🙂

Happy gaming, everyone!

Re: Nintendo Direct: Mario Kart World: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?

SuperBro64

Personally, I think the game could've instead costed no more than $70 maximum, but I still think it looked really cool and fun in this Direct. It helped that I was able to watch and discuss it with my fellow game-loving dad, who works at Nintendo of America in the technical department and has already been able to try the game himself a little bit, including with the new GameChat feature lol.

One of the things I think is most underrated about the Mario Kart series in the last few installments, especially Mario Kart 8, is how "real" it feels, perhaps more so than anything else in the whole Mario franchise. I see the world the games take place in with all of the fake brands dotting the courses (Fuzzy Battery, Boomerang Bros. Airlines, Rainbow Exploration Agency, etc.), as well as the in-universe Mario Kart Television broadcasting company filming it all, and it really feels like an inviting, believeable universe where Mario Kart is a major televised event watched by millions around the world. Mario Kart World definitely looks to be a natural evolution of that core design philosophy.

Overall, I'd give this Direct a 9/10. I'm very hyped for it! =)

Re: Video: Nintendo Today Gives Us Another Look At Zelda: Wind Waker For Switch Online

I've never understood why people dislike the sailing in the original version so much, when you get to listen to the Great Sea music, one of the best songs in the entire series IMO.

Also, you can add me as someone that overall prefers the original version's graphics for not having the overpowering bloom. And the lack of Tingle Tuner functionality in the HD version hurts a bit, especially since it was replaced by the Tingle Bottle that's now completely unusable now that Miiverse is shut down.

Overall though, both versions of the game are great.

Re: Random: Yep, Nintendo Switch 2 Game Cartridges Still Taste Disgusting

SuperBro64

Somewhat related, but I'm sure most of us remember that 3DS cartridges had a little notch on the side to prevent them from being inserted into a normal DS.

But it appears that Switch 2 cartridges have no such notch to differentiate their shape from Switch 1 cartridges. Hopefully nothing bad happens if someone were to insert a Switch 2 cartridge into a Switch 1.

Re: Community: Which Switch 2 Games Are You Wishlisting?

SuperBro64

Not saying it still isn't expensive, but I'd like to inform everyone that sees this comment that the physical version of Mario Kart World will cost $80 just like the digital version. The rumor of the physical version costing $90 is false.

This was confirmed to me by my dad, who works in the technical department at Nintendo of America over here in Washington State and has been able to try out the Switch 2 himself.

Re: Nintendo Is Developing New Mobile Game Apps, Unsurprisingly

SuperBro64

Since they started making them, I ignored Nintendo's mobile games for the longest time. I just wasn't really interested. But I finally decided to give Super Mario Run a shot a few years ago, knowing that it was only a one-time fee.

I'm glad I did, because I think Super Mario Run is very underrated. Even outside of it being great for a mobile game, I also think it can stand among the mainline console Mario games. Being forced to keep running the entire time so that you have to focus on jumping properly and carefully is a nice change of pace from the other games in the series with more traditional platforming.

Re: Nintendo Is Developing New Mobile Game Apps, Unsurprisingly

SuperBro64

@VHSGREMLIN @Mirastrix Super Mario Run doesn't have predatory pricing. You only have to pay one modest fee to unlock everything the game has to offer, and then there are no more monetary transactions at any point after that.

That being their first mobile game, if only they kept that pricing system with all of their following games...

Re: 'Nintendo Music' Adds Another Donkey Kong Soundtrack, Here's Every Song Included

SuperBro64

@Bolt_Strike Yeah, thinking about it more, GBA Treetop Tumble is fine in those other stages, and other than that, that's really the only musical dissonance I remember in the GBA version.

My main problem with the GBA soundtrack is as I said above how many of the tracks have "empty" sections of ambient noise, at least six of them:

  • Stilt Village
  • Frosty Frolics
  • Enchanted Riverbank (Ground)
  • Rockface Rumble
  • Cavern Caprice
  • Jungle Jitter

Ambient noise isn't inherently a bad thing, to be clear. It just happens a little too frequently in the soundtrack for my tastes, especially since you hear these level themes multiple times throughout the game.

But I agree with you that various other songs in the GBA version do sound better, like Mill Fever, Water World and Cascade Capers. Honestly, I'm about half and half on it.

P.S. I hope you don't think you're being attacked here for your opinions, you have every right to them. Just trying to have friendly discourse about it. =)

Re: 'Nintendo Music' Adds Another Donkey Kong Soundtrack, Here's Every Song Included

SuperBro64

@Bolt_Strike Having listened to both versions, I like some of the GBA tracks better, like Stilt Village, Mill Fever, and Water World. But too many of the other tracks have long sections of nothing but ambient sounds, which the SNES tracks did not have.

Also, Treetop Tumble fits the treetop stages infinitely better in the SNES version compared to the GBA version, especially in the level Ripsaw Rage.

Re: Balatro Developer Calls Out 'PEGI' For Its "Weirdo" 18+ Rating

SuperBro64

I played the "fake gambling" casino games in Super Mario 64 DS quite a lot when I was younger.

It never gave me the desire to gamble for real.

So I don't think Balatro should be rated 18+ just for featuring a game (poker) that is associated with gambling if the actual game (Balatro) features no monetary transactions of any kind, just like the casino games in Mario.
