When I was younger, I accidentally poured both white milk and chocolate milk on my N64 at different times (don't ask...). Fortunately, it's still fine and working all these years later.
@Yoshi3 Out of curiosity, what makes you think it was the beginning of the downfall of the Zelda formula? There is the fact that you rent/buy the items from Ravio instead of getting them in the dungeons, but the dungeons themselves I remember being pretty good, and not just complete rehashes of their Link to the Past counterparts.
I guess my point is that it still feels pretty true to the old Zelda formula compared to Breath of the Wild and on.
@Dom_31 Huh? Unless you're talking about the high price (fair), I can't see why you'd think that. I built this set with my dad and thought it was very cool.
I've said this before, but regardless of what you think of the quality of the recent Pokémon games in terms of gameplay and graphics, the music is the one aspect of the franchise that's always consistently great IMO. The gym leader theme in Sword and Shield was absolutely fire. 🔥
Not sure... The first Star Fox game I ever played as a kid was Star Fox Adventures, which I really liked because the gameplay reminded me of Zelda. The periodic on-rails shooter segments for when you travel to the planet was a nice change of pace from that, but it wasn't what I was most interested in.
So when I later learned that that game was actually an exception to the franchise in terms of gameplay and that the on-rails segments was actually the main feature in the other games, I was a little disappointed. As a result I haven't played any of the other games in the series beyond a little bit of Star Fox 64, which I didn't finish because, while I like the franchise's world and characters, I don't gel too much with the actual gameplay.
But I used to also not have great feelings towards Zelda: Twilight Princess when I first played it as a kid, but then appreciated it much more when I played it again years later. So perhaps I may feel the same way for Star Fox if I get and try this remake.
@somnambulance Something that floors me about Mario Sunshine to this day after playing other games in the series is that to me it's the most "realistic" Mario game, in that it goes much farther than any other in building a cohesive world that feels lived-in by real people, rather than levels that are just an abstract series of platforms floating in space (which are still available through the secret stages).
Odyssey is the next closest game in that regard, but as good as its worldbuilding is I still find it inferior overall because every inhabitant of any particular kingdom all look identical to each other. By contrast, in Sunshine different characters are given different colors and clothes, so you can tell them apart. This goes even better with the episodic system for the main levels. I understand how some people dislike that you can't get most Shines in any order you want like in Mario 64, but it works in this case as in each level you can see a clear progression of events across episodes, made more visible by, again, the inhabitants have distinct appearances, so you can see over each episode how each character in the level individually responds to the sequential events when you talk with them. It's almost never necessary to actually do so, but it still makes for a very refreshing change of pace from all the other games in the series typically having far fewer interactable characters.
Sorry for the long reply, but that's what makes Sunshine stand out to me. 🙂
Still not a fan of the pervasive sentiment online that critic reviews are terrible and only the audience scores should be trusted.
Also, I hate it even more when people use "woke" as a pejorative against something just because they dislike it. I'd rather be woke than be intolerant.
@Pillowpants Having played it, I can say that Yoshi's Island DS immediately comes to mind as a Yoshi game that is most definitely not easy, especially if you're going for 100% completion, as some of the Extra/Secret levels are absolutely brutal.
I agree with Miyamoto to an extent in that the really negative reviews, like the one calling it worse than AI, seem vastly overblown.
But I also think he's being a bit defensive about it, too. It's not the job of the critics to praise something if they don't like it. And movies will be judged differently from video games.
On that note, I've never been the biggest fan of the general sentiment I see online that critic reviews, especially game reviews, are meaningless and that only the audience knows best. Critics can have bad takes, but so can the audience, too.
Please, I do not want a remake of Ocarina of Time, because 1) There's already the 3DS remake, and 2) The PC port for the game, Ship of Harkinian, already exists and is extremely good with all of the various enhancements you can do to the game.
Please, I've been wanting remakes of the Oracle games since the Link's Awakening remake came out over 6 years ago... Those deserve more attention IMO.
Seriously, if a Zelda remake happens and it's one of the games in the series that has already gotten a remake, I'm going to be so upset.
Still getting it because I'm really loving Mario Wonder so far playing it with my dad, and since we're not done with it yet I think it will be worth it for us to at least test this updated version out.
@cyrus_zuo "There are probably only 2-3 levels in the entire game as difficult as 1-1 in the original SMB game."
Were you perhaps meaning 8-1 in the original SMB game? I've been playing through Wonder for the first time the last few months, and it's not that easy... Like, I don't disagree with people saying that the game is easy (even though I don't personally mind it), but I can confidently say that claiming that nearly the entire game is no harder than the first level in SMB feels a tad hyperbolic.
Not intending to call specifically you out, just wanted to give my thoughts on the general sentiment I tend to see people have about Wonder's difficulty.
Super Mario Run continues to be very underrated in my opinion. Requiring an internet connection is a bit of a bummer, but it's a small gripe compared to how great it is that it's only a one-time payment for the full content and then no ads anywhere. Plus as I've said before, the actual game and its levels are very well-designed around the auto-running gimmick. And it's very satisfying acrobating your way through the terrain.
I've always liked the water-type starters the best, but it doesn't really matter to me because I've long had a system for easily getting all three starters early on in a Pokémon without glitching or hacking:
1) Start the game and choose one of the starters. 2) Continue playing until you reach the point where you can trade with another player. 3) Trade the starter over to a different save file using another game, and store that starter in that file's PC. 4) Repeat steps 1 - 3 for the other two starters. 5) Trade all the starters from the second save file back to the first file.
Now you have all three starters early in one save file! 😉
Horse riding was one of my least favorite things about Breath of the Wild, primarily because of Nintendo's decision to make the horses "realistic" by having them automatically follow the paths you're on.
I can understand the quote about how "real horses don't run into trees", but in practice it just made the controls while riding feel extremely slippery and imprecise. I constantly felt like I had to fight my horse when I wanted to just go off the path and it would absolutely insist on not doing that. I just want to be able to move wherever I want to like in the older games, man!
This "realistic" system also makes the horse-jumping obstacle course minigame at Highland Stable incredibly difficult if you follow the intended path. One of the obstacles is actually much easier to jump over if you travel the path in the opposite direction.
I also wasn't very incentivized to travel by horse in general, because BOTW is so designed around climbing things that it was too much of a hindrance to bring my horse along.
@SpaceboyScreams I put it in quotes because as I said I've pretty much never cared about difficulty when playing games. And I still think the levels are well-designed and fun, far from being a slideshow.
Also, I never said it wasn't a fair criticism if other people prefer harder games.
I'm going against the sentiment in this comments section and will say that Wonder is incredibly fun and inventive. I especially like how it introduces a brand new enemy nearly every level. And the Wonder effects are really creative too.
Also, I don't really care if the game is "easy". I've never viewed a lack of difficulty as a major negative when playing games.
Played Rayman 1 for the first time back on the DSi when it released there on DSiWare.
It's a fun, well-designed game, but the levels felt too overly enormous. I was so thankful for the touch screen map that version added. Also, the environments were so lavishly designed that sometimes it was hard to tell where you could actually stand on.
I overall prefer both Rayman 2 and 3 to the first entry, but I still enjoyed it.
@B3RTAY It's completely fine if you're not interested in the multiplayer stuff, but I'm just curious to know why you consider such features to be more low-effort in comparison to single-player content.
I'm kind of surprised at how many people here have no interest in the multiplayer features. I may be biased though because I've been playing the main game with my dad, and we've been having a lot of fun with it.
So I think this upgrade will be worth for us to at least try out.
@Robot99 I've been playing Spirit Tracks for the first time recently and the two different dungeon themes there are definitely better than the one in Phantom Hourglass, especially the Fire Temple/Sand Temple theme.
I've said this before, but Gen 4 is my favorite gen of Pokémon because it's the first one I ever played as a kid. And so overall, I really like Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl despite their flaws.
So it's always a bit of a bummer for me whenever I find an article focusing on the remakes like this one, because more often than not most of the resulting comments are talking about how bad they consider the games to be...
Well, I personally enjoyed the games, so that's all that matters in my book. Just needed to vent a little about it.
@Anti-Matter "and some Pokemons can heal or support their team or debuff the opponents with saboteur skills."
Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're suggesting, but the Pokémon games have already had this since the very beginning. There are many, many various moves that Pokémon can do that heal/buff teammates and status inflict/debuff opponents.
Ring Fit Adventure has become one of my favorite games ever, most of all because it doesn't just succeed as an exercise game, but also succeeds in its own right as a video game. Not only is it a genuinely good workout every play session, but it looks beautiful, sounds amazing, the writing is very amusing, the worldbuilding is delightful and intriguing, and the RPG-styled gameplay is so well-done in relation to the exercises.
After over three years of constant playing, I recently just finished the last world for the fifth time and passed EXP Level 700, on my way to 100% completing the game! Then I can officially say I've defeated fitness and stop exercising for the rest of my life lol.
@The_Nintendo_Expat Hey! Thanks for your reply! Sorry for the late response, but my notifications told me that you had responded to my previous post, but I missed that notification until just now, and for some reason I don't see your response here in this comments section, only in my notification email. But I thought I'd still answer so as to not leave you hanging.
To answer your question about if I played the OG F-Zero on SNES, I was born in 1996, so I grew up more on the GameCube, but my parents had an SNES that I still played a lot on. But they never got F-Zero, so I never got around to actually playing it until it came to SNES Switch Online. When I finally did, it was at the same time as when I started getting into 99. And so it's probably harder for me to tell the difference between the two, other than the obvious additional actions in 99 like spinning and boosting at any time.
For what it's worth, despite preferring 99's control scheme, I still do play the Classic Race mode a lot in it, too. Though without the ability to boost at any time and instead only once per lap, it tends to feel to me like the original game mechanics favor the faster vehicles like the Fire Stingray more lol.
@The_Nintendo_Expat You have every right to your opinion. Having played both the original F-Zero and F-Zero 99, I personally like 99's controls more, but I can understand you preferring the original. Everyone has a different take on things and that's completely okay. 🙂
Honestly, my preference for 99 is more based on the visuals, which are a lot easier on my eyes than the original. The Switch doesn't have Mode 7 but it still does Mode 7 better than the SNES lol.
@Samuel-Flutter Just confirmed that on the Super Mario Wiki, yeah. After reading it, I can say that, while it's a nice epilogue, I think I'm fine without it being in the real book. The original ending is good enough for me.
Regarding the book missing the new pages, based on what I've seen online, aren't the new pages actually located in Galaxy 2 and concern the events of that game specifically? Or were there also new pages added in Galaxy 1?
If it's the former case and the book still has all the pages from Galaxy 1, then that makes it worth it in my eyes.
I'm sorry, I understand people preferring the colored buttons of the Europe and Japan controllers, but as an American, I've always really liked the contrast between those two shades of violet. I think they look really good next to each other.
As a kid, I finished everything in Banjo-Tooie except for the two races against Canary Mary in Cloud Cuckooland... I just couldn't do it and I didn't know why at the time. Her rubberbanding was absolutely crazy.
But last year, I decided to boot up my old save file and look up the strategy for beating her online, and with that knowledge I was able to win both races and finally declare the save file complete! Woohoo!

@-wc- "Nintendo ran out of good power up ideas for Mario approximately 35 years ago."
Are you sure? Unless you were exaggerating or being sarcastic, I'm gonna have to politely push back on that notion with the following power-ups:
Your opinions on all of those power-ups may vary, of course, but I'm just throwing my two cents in lol.

As the first Mario game I ever played (I was 6 when it first released), the disdain/apathy towards Super Mario Sunshine will forever sadden me.
