A Second Voice Actor Has Confirmed They Will Not Return For Persona 4 Remake

How would he know about the remake if he isn't involved in it? .-. He's probably just referring to the rumors.

I was afraid of this after seeing how P3R turned out. Assuming (hoping) it comes to Switch 2, I'll probably still buy it but a Persona 4 remake without the original voice cast just won't be the same. At least Golden is still easily accessible.

How about they stop remaking everything and make a new Persona? Or at least do something with the first two, which few people have played.

Morikubo is Yōsuke's Japanese CV.

I mean. It's been 20 years and voices change over so many years and it might be hard to get the entire original cast together again.

As I don't think they used the same voice actors for the Persona 3 remake either?
I think it was an entirely new cast of younger voice actors.
It still turned out to be an amazing game with excellent voice acting!

So I wouldn't be surprised they will do the same with the Persona 4 remake.

If this is true, then I am upset, because I never hear Yuri Lowenthal's voice coming out of any of the characters he voices; I hear Yosuke Hanamura. For me, it is his most iconic role (Luke fon Fabre being very close behind), and the first character I immediately think about when I think of Yuri Lowenthal.

I mean, the same seiyūs voices the same characters for years. Megumi Ogata still voices Shinji Ikari from Evangelion. Kōichi Yamadera still voices Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop. And the list goes on...

The voices of the Japanese dub were recorded from scratch.
The English version features a mostly entirely new voice cast.

So yeah, at least the English voice actors were new.

I’ll just be happy to play it in Japanese. The original ps2 version was English only.

Really don't see why Persona 4 needs to be remade, Golden holds up pretty well

@CaptainQuo Most companies do remakes/remasters to fill the gaps. Persona 5 was the Skyrim of JRPGs, so I'd assume they're a bit scared P6 won't live up to the hype which is why we keep getting remakes and spin-offs to continue the story. And while Persona 1 & 2 would be cool, they're more SMT than what people know as Persona. So they probably think they'd be better off remaking actual SMT games than those 2.

Golden content pay $20

What would even be the point of remaking it? To retrace the OG with blackjack and frixels and then sell the Golden content as DLC?🤔😅

ATLUS has no respect for their original voice actors. I refuse to play the remake, just like I refuse to play Reload, since the new cast is bad and they cut content, only to resell it later as DLC.
Watch the Golden content being cut from the game on release day.

What's next, the P5 cast getting recasted for Phantom X because their VAs are "too old" and they need a "fresher cast"??

@MirrorFate2 Thank god i got Persona 3's reload Expansion pass free while i had game pass ultimate i have no idea if they'll do the same for this one

In Japan, they still have the same voices as with the original. Igor needed to be replaced thanks to having to talk directly in Persona 5. It at least make some sense.

Omg, the P3 Remake was released while I was deep in P3Portable, and now I'm like halfway through P4 and I hear this. Rip.

Instead of making remakes of remakes why not instead remaster in some way form or fashion tgr original three games (p1 and both p2 games) or the originall two smts?!

I already didn't like the changes made to Chie and Teddie's VAs when Golden came out (I know most people liked Chie's, but I wasn't a fan). But getting rid of Yosuke's is a change I am not a fan of (they'd better not change Kanji's as well). The voice work really makes P4 what it is, and I can't see it retaining the charm if they change so many voice actors.

@GameOtaku They already did remakes for P1 and both P2 games... On the PSP. Though IIRC, a few years ago, Atlus put out a poll about that games people wanted remastered, with both Persona 2 games tied for second place. First place went to 3.

@GregamanX ...You are aware they did change Kanji's voice actor. Hell, his voice was swapped out in the middle of the anime's dub. That said, if you mean Matthew Mercer, it's possible he might come back, considering he voices Yusuke (Not Yosuke) in Persona 5.

They did remakes for p3 and p4 on psp and vita too yet are remaking them. P1 and both 2s don’t get the attention they deserve even in the anniversary event aside from the briefest of mentions. And I’ve never heard anyone talk highly of smt 1 or 2 only 3 and upwards. These under appreciated classics deserve to be played and accessible.

I have Persona 4 Golden on my PS Vita. Works great. I'm not sure I need a remake of it as well.

Many in the Persona 4 Golden cast are probably too busy (and well-paid) with Critical Role to be available for a remake - but would be good to see them back.

Not that P4 needs a remake - it’s absolutely perfect the way it is.

@Axecon Ehh not really. After playing both Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal..... Persona 4 Golden isn't holding up well at all.
It looks really rough and low res. Especially on anything larger than a PS Vita screen. Even in handheld mode on the Switch 1 screen it's barely passable. The port to PC and other consoles was a zero effort direct port without any optimizations.
It also misses a lot of the excellent QoL features that both Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royale have.

@NatiaAdamo ah, I thought that was for the anime for some reason. I guess they did a good job with Kanji then. Although, who's to say they may not change him again? Hopefully that won't be the case.

I would just hope that, if Atlus ever made another Trauma Center game (and frankly, the mouse feature on the Switch 2 Joy-Cons could be a nifty way to perform surgeries), I would hope that Yuri Lowenthal will still be Derek Stiles. Same with Wendee Lee as Angie Thompson, Spike Spencer as Victor Niguel, and Keith Silverstein as Kenneth Blackwell, amongst others.

Well, the first time when they replaced Tanonaka happened when... Persona5 gachya happened, lol. There he's voiced by Hōchyū Ōtsuka. For the Persona3 Demake, they got Bin Shimada instead, weirdly enough.
I'd be happy if they didn't replacle Tanonaka and would just kill off Igor for real. I mean, ATLUS already got rid of Demon Illustrator (Kazuma Kaneko self-insert), those female opera singer with piano player, and Philemon...

@MirrorFate2 The new cast in Reload is actually way better than the old? Like a lot of the voices for the characters in Reload actually fit the characters. Even fans of the original Persona 3 talk about how horrible the original voices for Aigis and Fuuka were.

As for Persona 4's remake, a good few of the older VAs probably weren't going to be able to return anyways. A lot of them either don't voice act at all anymore (Naoto's VA), or if they do, their voice aged a lot to the point where they don't really sound like the characters anymore. Persona 4 is notorious for recasting characters for every piece of media regarding it as well. Kanji got recasted in the anime, Chie's original VA got recasted in Golden. Naoto has been through 2-3 voices already. It sucks that Yuri wasn't allowed to come back even though he wanted to voice Yosuke again, but if they're going to have to replace some actors, they might as well replace all of them I guess.

@N00BiSH Persona 6 is in development. It'll probably get a reveal trailer the same showcase that P4R gets revealed. These are produced by two different teams within P-Studio.

@MirrorFate2 That has nothing to do with the quality of the voice performances? Also the original voice performances in Persona 3 were ten times worse. The characters had really unfitting voices and didn't sound right at all.

@VoidofLight Uh-huh, heard the "the old game is bad and clunky, the new is better and superior" a million times. Doesn't make it more true, more like recency bias. I know you probably will scream "nostalgia goggles" at me, but Reload has its own issues that many refuse to acknowledge.

Reload either TELLS you stuff rather than showing it, had really bad 3D cutscenes that could have used an anime cutscene instead, butchered the difficulty and you speak about "the old game had unfitting voices" but Reload!Akihiko sounds way too old for the character.
As for the epilogue scenario, they really did not understand it, and either cut really good stuff or added stuff that was unfinitting and created some whiplash with its story.

@MirrorFate2 For Episode Aigis, I agree they butchered that, but I don't think they butchered the main story. Akihiko's the only one out of the new cast that sounds off, with the rest either sounding on par with their original voices, or better than their original voices.

I don't prefer Reload because of recency bias. I prefer it because it allows me to actually decide what I want my party members to do instead of forcing me to just roll with the punches that the NPC characters give me. I prefer Reload because it allows for that without taking away the cutscenes in their entirety, which Portable did.

I don't really care for the exclusion of the FEMC, and I say this as a woman myself. It sucks that a lot of the anime cutscenes were replaced, but given the small budget- and the fact that CG in games can reach the levels of those original scenes, it doesn't bug me as much. The only scene that I have issues with was the Awakening of Thanatos, which feels very stiff in comparison to the original animated scene. Would've preferred if they spent the budget on animating that instead of animating Yukari taking a shower.

Never mind the Persona 4 remake, I want the Persona 3 remake on Switch 2.
