A great review, but to say that even non-fans of the genre should get it is a bit extreme. Unlike a fine platforming experience (and some other genres), not everyone will be charmed by the expertise and the perfect crafting of this beat'em up. It takes someone with a minimal experience in the genre.
@Kanbei To get it and the second version of the Jojo game would be great, CPS3 games look wonderful (they looked even more beautiful in those early 3D games days).
Noticed the video in YouTube suggestions. Thought it was a joke one. Then I saw the publisher: Nintendo...
The most useless iteration: it has none of the 2DS arguments and ends up as a simple redesign of the new XL. The new 3DS is currently under 129€ in supermarkets, the XL version ranging between 149 and 169€. Where is the price argument of the original 2DS (cheaper by 50€) ? The 2DS had this more compact and solid / durable design as the "young kids" argument (I admit I still wonder how it made it adequate for a 4-6years old baby who couldn't use it). With the return of the cclamshell and such a thin line, where is that gone?
I remember playing it with my brother (a ROM copy) when he was in his Terry Bogard period, the cooperation was a lot of fun. Beyond that, there is no real reason to play it, except if you want to travel through the evolution of the genre.
The two planes switch was a lot better in the Real series (though my memory isn't very clear). The combinations too.
Is Mark of the Wolves really considered as the peak of the series? I thought SvC Chaos, the spin-off crossover was at this place.
@ThatNyteDaez The story mode is the usual: "funny" dialogue between the Puyo² protagonists and the personified Tetris forms (the "invaders") leading to some quarrel you have to clear through one of the different game modes (sometimes with a specific goal: clear a board/X lines etc). It's nice when you need to warm up or learn one of the games. Otherwise, it might seem rather boring (the "cute" dialogues can be skipped naturally).
The multiplayer section is clearly the meat like in every Puyo² game, with all the different modes and rules. If you tackle the internet matches, I hope you don't meet the japanese crowd too early (it can be horrifying for non-seasoned players, I ended upmaking breaks far more than I wanted despite knowing puyo myself XD).
@yuwarite
"as a business, Nintendo has succeeded in selling a product people want (unlike the Wii U)"
Isn't their job as a business to succeed in selling us a product that they first made us believe we want (something that didn't work in the WiiU's case)?
@BLP_Software Will max priced Switch games of Pkmn really sell the console to parents among others? (based on the fact the Nintendo price for the 3DS releases were all the highest 3DS game price: 45€)
Of course, it doesn't change the obviousness of a pkmn made for switch.
If the flights were long, they would have ended "boring" as well with a powerless Switch... Anyway, it's comprehensible.
PS: I always imagined that such electronic devices were not allowed in planes because of interferences or something like that. (similar to cellular phones in hospital, even if by now I realized that nobody cares about that last rule)
Irrk, I purchased the game last year as soon as a decent price appeared on eBay (50€+ until that time) and still haven't played it and they are releaseing an extended version on 3DS... I'm surprised even if it's typical Atlus doings (I think the Megaten monsters T-RPG were already available on DS before ther 3DS versions).
Fire Emblem 1/3 was remade for the Dual Screen, the second game comes back unexpectedly on the 3DS... I guess a success would warrant a "Generation of the Holy War" (the only game with an interesting generations system) for the Switch? If only they had chosen it as the last 3DS game. XC
@Beau_Skunk Oh, I thought they were still active, thanks ^^" (mainly because of the Mario Parties still being released)
That's a shame for the 3DS project, though a screenshot of the prototype seems weird (behind-the-back view). Do you know any Bomberman with a single card multiplayer mode worth buying for DS?
Since when does KONAMI own this ? (I thought it was an Hudson game back when I played them on Super Nintendo) Also wondering how nobody thought of making a Bomberman for 3DS (with download/wireless/Net play etc).
@MarioPaperBoy This homing attack made sense when it was made (for the Adventures). I still don't understand what was the point of incorporating them in scrolling platformers.
Is there some way to prevent the console from registering every game card inserted as a different shortcut? Does it works until the screen is flooded or does it limit itself? (I sincerely don't understand the usefulness of such an idea) How is keeping a tiles based presentation synonymous of a smooth, easy to navigate interface? At least compared to a Wii or a 3DS who rely on that too (if it wasn't for the folders, I would dislike it on 3DS as much as on the Wii).
Waiting now a few weeks/months to learn how fast the screen rails wear down. If the controllers charge up when plugged to the screen, how fast do they drain the battery? Also, I forgot: does the console come with a charger (who's not the big plastic thing) ?
PS: to the ones who intend to play (or already do it) "big (action) games" in the public transport, is this really pleasant? (tried Majora's Mask/MH on the bus, couldn't do a right thing then became nauseous without 3D).
It is about the look of an operating system's interface but it sure seems far more than that when you read reactions.
Implemented things like that in machines who didn't need it simply made them worse than what they could have been. (not even talking about the security problems brought)
Waiting for some insight on the tank game before buying it: it seems like a multiplayer-only game and I will be the only one playing it so...
DB Fusions is already reserved in a supermarket. Though I'm not sure if I will have the time and will want to play again through the game: I was up to the penultimate level in a stolen US eshop copy and decided to play the final phase only after the euro release (importing the save). Inbetween, my console took a bath... ^^"
@UK-Nintendo You make me ashamed of my N64 boxes... (treated them equally to the GB ones, but they didn't last more than a year without problems)
@Varoennauraa Depends on what they decided to do: if their new eshop client account has the ability to be activated on several devices, then no. (I doubt it though)
It sounds more like "we don't want to deliver our new console with some "hacking entry gate" day one".
As for the "nobody uses that nowadays", I have access to a laptop PC but using the n3DS browser for fast internet checks (emails, infos, orders, etc) is better than waiting for Windows to open and the PC to heat up. Also watching animations on the browser videoplayer (better render than flat screens for pre-digital videos)
@Henmii I see. With "from scratch", I meant the very early ones by opposition to the post Ocarina ones. I know it was under him that the SNES and first N64 games were made, but after that (with the exception of the 2nd N64 and water Zelda) they were even more about being guided from a point to another one. AZnd those episodes were supposedly mostly due to Aonuma. (and about hand holding, look also at what he did to his "first" Zelda with the 3DS version)
"[the fees will] make it easier for Nintendo to support online features such as multiplayer or downloads of classic games." So, does it mean that someone who only wants access to the online shop of the Switch will have to pay the online services aside from buying the desired games? ...
@aaronsullivan Maybe the new Inazuma (a big name in Japan, right?) is being made for both consoles, it would be great if this is the case. (but based on the rythm of the infos revelations, the hope is thin)
@RadioHedgeFund You're lucky. Last time I mentionned a "GBA2", someone made me shut up. (nice picture by the way, awakening my nostalgia)
So, those manufacturers payed some fees to Nintendo only to put their new machine's name on a perfectly regular/common product? Judging from writings, it has been the case with other materials in the past. (I never noticed)
What would have been interesting is to know what they both consider to be the definition of a Zelda game. And since which game the "Aonuma's era" is sign of changes and free roaming ? I thought this man simply brought some tweaks to the third Zelda formula (plus the relatively heavy story element).
@Henmii Did you ever play the Zelda games Miyamoto made from scratch?
No replaceable battery, in other words, a console with a peremption date. Great. I wonder if the goal is that only the Game Boy line ends as a survivor.
I don't understand how people can already envisionned the time where they won't use their Switch anymore. I never bought a device I thought I would be using only 4 or 5 years because its life was already settled (except a PC, because I needed one no matter what), it's simply... not right.
@KTT Thank you. So it's almost impossible to send the pokémon at the right time for the wanted nature. About the Evs, I understand now why my old pokémon seem so strong in comparison. (i just thought I had bad luck in more recent games)
The game was fun enough to keep me interested in buying it and replaying it from scratch now that I broke my 3DS with an american eshop version. Inazuma and Dragon Ball together can't be a bad thing.
@KTT The weirdest part is the way the nature is selected: it is based on the experience level of the monster when it's transfered. If I understand it right: level 100? hasty ! (example)
The EVs resetting is making training inside the original ROM useless.
@AlexSora89 Sorry about the double warning but... non-alolan pokémon are now free to circulate through the GTS (I wanted to get some shiny pokémon on the GTS, the owner was asking for a Rayquaza, tried to send mine copied from Alpha and it worked)
@SanderEvers @TheHumbleFellow @SanderEvers @AlexSora89 @KTT Chinese have already delivered informations about the pokémon bank new version:
logo GB to identify the monsters (and GO, looks like there will be some compatibility system between GO and 3DS) http://serebii.net/bankup1.jpg (I really want Mewtwo with a GB tattoo !!),
3 IVs max randomly distributed (pretty stupid in the sense it won't be the "same" pokémon since the stats will change)
@Fath I was not saying that happily actually: I find this utterly stupid to have almost identical machines from every sides apart from the aspect. (maybe that's because I grew up during the 8-64bits period) If this is the case here (Switch being a lower "clone" of the concurrence and old PCs), then the next step for Nintendo will be a machine with no specific ability either.
@Kmno Oh, sorry. Indeed, I didn't understand. ^^"
Correction: the chips might be "bothersome" to get but a lv30 Festival Plaza (that's when the "high level" functions are unlocked) is pretty easy to acquire. After that, you only need to become the Master.
I always thought that the update to the experience gains in Black&White was the problem. And I suppose the current offers for leveling are an exaggerated reaction from Game Freak to the overexaggerated easiness to level-up in XY and ORAS. (I must admit that those game made leveling stupidly easy). Something far slower than that but faster than what we have ow would be great.
@Arnold-Kage If you are interested in this and don't mind historic inaccuracy, the chinese Three Kingdoms era fame is in part due to its medieval novelization : http://www.threekingdoms.com/ . It is part of those Four Great Classicals in chinese literature (among Journey to the West/Gensômaden Saiyuki in jap. and Water Margin/Suikoden). Those classics are also pretty well known in Japan (though mayb through japanese "re-novelizations").
@Kmno They clearly built the leveling system around the idea that rare kitchen would be use extensively once players would have cleared the game (making ultra-training viable): you can get a legend from lv30 to 100 in less han two hours for the cost of 800 friendchips.
The main problem here is the fact that gathering those chips is stupidly slow.
May I know how reaching level30 is difficult?
@PsylockeRules It might come quickly now. Sights of the new bigger file (not an update) on Nintendo servers have been reported recently.
This game lacks Lysandre's revolution: the Holo-deck. Unless you check yourself the PGL or other information sources you won't know anything about the game's events (tournaments, distributions, etc)
@MysticX The rewards aren't cool because people don't bother checking the shops they could get and what it has to offer. I struggled even to find a rare kitchen 5* until I met some japanese guy whose plaza was above 150 at the time (201 now) and my hunt for the EV reducing kitchen will probably have no end. Anyway, the 4xx chips I got from this second failure disappeared too fast but each one of them was useful.
@RadoGoji Filling pokédex lines pokédex you won't even see in the actual game, as it seems?
