Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch and Third-Parties - Let's Be Realistic

Rei

@NintyNate There is bound to be a dedicated Switch Zelda game somewhere between its mid- and late life. Nintendo can't simply let its last console have nothing else than a port.

@MsgBoardGamer1 I always thought the Nintendo64 had a decent amount of non-Nintendo videogames. It seemed limited in its time because people were comapring it to the output seen on SFC/SNS and PSX, but one should see that therewas actually less games overall on the console. The percentage of outsiders games seemed still quite good.

Re: Review: Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS)

Rei

Started the game despite willing to keep it as a left-over for later. Pretty good so far, even considering the fact it doesn't evocate Metroid II.

Not a fan of "the days of getting lost in labyrinthian 8-bit games are over and this new feature ensures you’ll never get so completely stuck that you’ll get annoyed with the game, chuck it to the side and never finish it." The original was an exploration game unlike this one, why would people be annoyed to be lost / stuck when it was supposed to be the game's "goal". Never being lost and always going forth would mean that there is a problem in its construction.

Re: The Alliance Alive

Rei

The demonstration is fine (at least gameplay-wise since I don't read japanese) and you can even try additional things in it.
Now, let's hope for a western release. (though I had high difficulties to find a Legend of Legacy E card and had to resort to import a US collector pack).

Re: Amazon Spain Lists Fire Emblem Fates Complete Edition For Switch With Fan-Made Cover Art

Rei

If this was true, this would be a ridiculous joke:
1) after forcing people to pay 80€ minimum or around 110€ (or more, thanks to limited stocks) to get a full card of it on 3DS,
2) to re-release yet another WiiU/3DS game for their new shiny console.

By the way, is it normal I still haven't heard of new Switch retail games released by other companies four months after the console's release?

Re: Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters Haunts Europe This Autumn

Rei

@NicolausCamp "Nice trick", I didn't know it was possible.
On the other hand, to unlock the additional dungeon, you need to "link" the games through two devices, right? Or does it simply check if you have datas from the previous versions on the console?

@Xaldin It would be like... Inazuma GO, right? (or Danball Senki/LBX for that matter)

Re: Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters Haunts Europe This Autumn

Rei

@TruenoGT There were thirteen "species" that could only be met in one of the two versions while this third iteration has 19 new species (but lacks the previous exclusives, I think). Also, there is a certain category of yôkai ("alias") only available in the first two games for a quest, twelve different ones in each.
And no, every game starts the same way.

PS: I think some or all of the exclusive quests from the original pair is also not featured in this one (but in the end, the third version has more exclusive quests).

Re: Production Of The Standard-Sized New Nintendo 3DS Ends In Japan

Rei

"It remains to be seen if this move will impact the availability of the smaller unit in North America and Europe as well."
I wasn't able to replace my broken one already last year (december) and since then this model was never made available again outside of used devices. (France)

Re: Nintendo Announces Super NES Classic Edition

Rei

80 dollars when you really only want a single game... I prefer to pay the real console for less (even if the actual games would not be included).

If this wasn't a "special chip" game, maybe some people would have "ripped" Star Fox 2 away from the console to put it on cartridges and sell it. xD

(though, if it happens to become a ROM, I don't mind it)

Re: Streets Of Rage And Etrian Odyssey Composer Isn't Sure Why The Switch Exists

Rei

People crying for a basic console successfully made themselves heard. That's all.

"making console games both portable and playable on your tv is more of an innovation than 3DS or WiiU ever were"
This will be a slight innovation only with the first Switch exclusives, because what we have right now is the same as before. It was always working this way: home games from one or two generations ago were often released on the current portable device. Also, there were the adaptation devices to plug your current handheld game in the current home console during the 16 and 128bits times.

The 3DS wasn't an innovation because the first game developed to actually use the 3D for its gameplay was stripped of it thanks to the 2DS project. Without Nintendo leading, nobody bothered with it.
This last problem was also the main one for the tentative innovation of the Wii U: almost nobody exploited the tablet past the first months because Nintendo gave up on it. Probably due to as how "stupid", "useless" and "undesired" it was branded by consumers who wanted what the Switch is: a perfectly "normal" console (though I admit it at least integrated the Wii's old innovation).

The main innovation for Nintendo this time isn't a console feature, it's the fact it was promoted (probably successfully) as something ultra-cool, what had not been done in a long time for this enterprise.

Re: First Impressions: Slicing Our Way Through Fire Emblem Warriors

Rei

@Giygas_95 The developers already stated in an interview that the project started with the idea of exploiting Awakening and Fates casting along the venerable characters from Fire Emblem (the first one and its remakes). I suppose, at best, that you can hope for one or two characters not from those episodes as payed supplements.

Re: Capcom Not Confirming Plans for Monster Hunter XX on Switch in the West 'At This Time'

Rei

I read this " undoubtedly Western-centric" remark on every article (by supposedly informed people) and in a lot of internet commentaries. But from where this come from? Did those reporters get to see someone playing the game? Because gameplay wise, how does it seem westernized? Aesthetically, it looks the same for me.

@Spoony_Tech Overpriced? When I was buying a few 3DS games at the supermarket the week after this videogame's release, I saw the Switch STF dedicated stand with a 30€price tag on the boxes.

Re: Talking Point: EA and Bethesda Highlight Nintendo Switch as a Portable Powerhouse at E3

Rei

@96OopAmgems I started to skip one Nintendo console, and one handheld as soon as they started to promote the retrocompatibility for all their consoles.
In other words:

  • Nes, Super Nes, Game Boy,
  • add the N64,
  • and the GameBoy Advance.
  • Later, the Wii.
  • finally the 3DS.

Though, I trapped myself when they decided to stop making home consoles after the WiiU (on the other hand, it strongly looks like the Switch is some sort of portable Wii U in its early months). But this is not enough to push me to a purchase. I'll wait to see if the next console is switch-compatible or not.

Re: Go On A Mystery Journey To Find The Layton Café At E3 This Year

Rei

Meanwhile, still nothing except a very short TV commercial for the Snack World who was supposed to be the brand new... brand for Level-5. Even on websites where people talk about current TV animations they pirated, I saw no mention about the dedicated TV show. It's almost like this doesn't exist.

Re: Pokémon Company Press Site Lists Ultra Sun And Ultra Moon For Switch As Well As 3DS

Rei

@ThatNyteDaez The same people who said that after XY? And after Alpha/Omega (due to the tourists) ?

@MysticX Incentive to buy the game on 3DS, then to rebuy it again. Look at CAPCOM, they waited that their upgrade of Monster Hunter was released for a few weeks before advertising a re-release on Switch.

@nhSnork I thought "alternative" was a term for "replacement"/"another way", something like that.

@AyanamiReign Nice wordplay here.

Re: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Confirmed for 17th November Release on 3DS

Rei

@Zach777 Add to taht a few "new" Alolan variations on Kanto (Jôtô?) species.

@invictus4000 A fully new RPG only a year after the last pair would have been a nice cash grab, but a cash grab none the less. (since you usually don't create a game from ground in that time, people would have thought those ideas could have been implemented in Sun/Moon exactly like with those actual "new" games).

@Grandpa_Pixel It's the B&W2 approach? Really? I was certain from the look and speech that it was yet another Crystal/Platinum, only doubled for more money.

Re: Get Ready for a Pokémon Direct on 6th June

Rei

To show a new Pokémon RPG right now, only a half-year after the releaase of the last one would be a great joke to all their consumers. No matter how badly those people want to already purchase yet another version, it is still a nice way to insult their intelligence.

Nobody mentions the possibility of a simple "port", like what CAPCOM did (while making it sound like a giant news).

Re: Capcom Kicks Off a Massive Sale on the North American Wii U and 3DS eShops

Rei

@Aaron09 It didn't for me: I loved the games, especially MH4U who bothered to feature a little story intertwined into its beginners quests, preventing me from feeling that I was doing useless things. What Generations wouldn't have, had it be my first game (so many quests seemed just tedious for nothing, they don't bother integrating the minimum of informations into the beginning quests, letting you read everything elsewhere, etc).

Personally, I would advise anybody to get the game (unless it's someone who can't stand to put more than 10min in a gaming session, or to need a certain time to get the thing he wants), maybe (just maybe) this discount will bring a wave of fresh players to the game who will make nice companions for you (if you have a friend who wil get it simultaneously, though, it's a sure buy).
But if this description sounds boring to you, it should light a warning in your head.

Re: Capcom Kicks Off a Massive Sale on the North American Wii U and 3DS eShops

Rei

@Aaron09 The demo onl shows you a fraction of the game. You'll repeat each prey between 20 and 50-100times to get their materials or because the game says so (particularly in Générations who loves to give you large amounts of slight variations through similar quests).
The basic principle is: hunt monsters, realize you're pretty weak, start to craft an armor (people will tell you to rush and craft anything, while you can look for specific articles unlocking new "powers"/abilities) by hunting more of the same monster, hunt new stronger monsters, having problems again, fa´rming again, repeat the cycle over and over. It's fun if you can stand it and don't play with more than two people of your level (of equipment and maybe experience), unless you want it to become a pure onslaught where you stand and watch the monster be put into pieces with no retaliation chance. I got both games at launch andboy, was it hard to find people whose mission was not to pierce through the 50-75% of the game, rushing at the famous "end game" and taking me with them. Right in the first days/weeks. -_- On Generation, losing my hundreds of hours totally prevented me to find people willing to play at a certain level (charactersHave no stat, just change your suit and weapon and you can "power down"). After a few days, I just stopped playing and my save isn't even at 50% of where I was before.
Oops, sorry for the speech ^^"

This weakness is nothing for someone who doesn't want to play thr game for the collaboration aspect of course.

Oh, because of the way stats work, you can adjust the difficulty as you wish if you find the game too easy (ex: use a weaker armor, equip negative skills, missing meals who raise health, naked hunting, etc)

Re: Capcom Is Bringing Monster Hunter XX to the Switch

Rei

@Anti-Matter I'm not a pixel lover, I find the pixelated look on some 3DS CGI games pretty ugly (it's even worse on a larger screen sadly, since I broke my n3DS and could only buy a nXL). I like a lot the look of later 16bits sprite games though.

No, I don't especially like HD graphics on HD monitors, for the little time I can bare to watch them, I find that they look just like non-HD graphics (older 720x500something resolutions) looked on non-HD monitors. It's nothing more than a silly forced change of devices.

I used Sonic as an example (not a comparison) because Sonic Adv. was the first (and only game back then) where I could not stay in front of the monitor for more than 10minutes without literally crying (and I insist on the literally, since you seem to think I mean it figuratively)
Since you brought FF X "remaster" on the table (I find remasters absolutely stupid but that's not the point here), I was able to play the game just fine on PS2, when I wanted to play it again on my brother's newer console I couldn't simply because I started to have my eyes full of tears (and headaches) after only a few scenes and playing a few minutes.

I don't understand how the general 3DS games graphics look outdated this year in particular. It looked "outdated" already when it was released and I bought my first one only later despite that.
Hell, the N64 and PSX games looked mostly pretty bad at their time already (since 3DCGI games were new and the graphics weren't well mastered) and I still bought the machines and played on them. -_-

PS: I will say it again, I have absolutely nothing against the fact the game is released (again) on another console within a few months. My problem is only the big chance that they decide to release only this version outside of Japan, thus making non-japanese people the ones who get the "prejudice" (sorry, it's a word stronger than what I want) like always. There should either be both versions for us too or at least the original version.

Re: Capcom Is Bringing Monster Hunter XX to the Switch

Rei

@Anti-Matter What?! I never said I didn't find them good enough (though I think Generations "landscape" screen didn't look as good as MH4U's one)
You were the one who tried to sell me XX on Switch because of graphisms: "completely full HD rendering 1080pixels". To what I answered that I could not even physically stand to watch most things above PS2 's graphics (because it made me cry a lot, exactly like Sonic Adventures on Dreamcast a long time ago).

In other words, I see this release as potentially detrimental to the chances we might get US and EU localizations of the 3DS version. And I dislike that because I don't want to play this on Switch (well, I don't have the console anyway), I want to get it for my 3DS.

Re: Two Brand New Fire Emblem Warriors Characters Get Revealed, As Well As Marth

Rei

I wonder why nobody since the announcement wished to see the best "love interest" of Genealogy of War, Aira/Ira. (loves the type of character she started).
@Arnold-Kage If Lynn is "casted" for the game, I can say goodbye to my hopes.

@Sakuraichu Where did you read about the game makers stating they would only use Fire Emblem I and Kozaki-made characters ?

@SnowFox It could make the game more diverse. (+1 if they use her "young" age)

@MrGawain But, but... why? Just because you don't know them enough? (joking)

Re: Capcom Is Bringing Monster Hunter XX to the Switch

Rei

@Anti-Matter Of course, nobody forced me to buy twice XX. But they will say: either buy a Switch and Switch XX (or rather "Generations² ") or you won't get the localization.

Also, apart from the shortcuts gameplay differences, I don't understand how the number of pixels will make the experience of playing different.
Oh, right, I would be able to play not more than 5minutes before my eyes go wet and I would be crying like a fountain at the 15th minute. (it sounds funny but it isn't, I have this problem with almost anything running on PS3+, and the problem started even sooner with a simple 128bits game named Sonic Adventures: almost any Sonic level was eye watery for me)

Re: Capcom Is Bringing Monster Hunter XX to the Switch

Rei

@EverythingAmiibo Sorry, I wasn't angry or nervous, simply disappointed that I end up probably right.
I'm not worried about saving money. I don't understand why I should be forced to pay the same game for double the price (plus pay the next console and connection fees in case I want the multiplayer mode). About the fact I was about to pay the game twice anyway, it was because they "got me": X/Gen came out so late I thought it would be the last 3DS game (but it isn't). Else, I would have waited indeed.
I 'm not complaining about the change to the next platform, it's the obvious movement. I didn't ask for a series to stay on 3DS, i want to be able to play a 3DS game on a 3DS.
About the wider success: do people really believe that? This type of game is as unappealing to play on a TV, an Ipad-like screen or a 3DS, people won"t start to like it magically because it is shown on their TV: it doesn't change what the game is. To get a "larger audience", you'll have to wait for a new game made more "sexy" by adding/removing things to make the game easier to "digest".

@DonSerrot Well, last time I waited for a game to be localized after the console was "done", it ended up being sold on the new one, with a bigger price.

Re: Capcom Is Bringing Monster Hunter XX to the Switch

Rei

I knew it... and I disliked this idea from the beginning, when they announced XX. Because, of course, the "world" will only get the Switch version if it ever receives this game. Thanks a lot -_- (especially after seeing the price of imported XXs)
Next, Level-5: we're so late in their 3DS games schedule that we'll get them as Switch exclusives. (like InaEle3 before)

@MilitiaMan In Japan, it can be a test. Outside, it won't be because we will be FORCED to either buy the Switch game or skip MonHunXX.

@DonSerrot Do you really believe they would jeopardize the Switch version sales in our countries ? (with the large difference in prices between the two machines games, the Switch game will be the priority)

@DarkKirby It's not like you will be given the choice between a 35€ and a 60€ releases for the same content if XX ever gets out of Japan.

Re: Video: The Complete History Of Mario Kart

Rei

@Franklin Noted, I'll definitely try it. (by trying, I mean buying since I can't "try" it like I did with Mario Kart 7, what helped me avoid a regreted purchase xD )

@kingc8 Do you mean that they started to reduce the tracks wideness ?

@Gridatttack I played the Super Circuit of my brother because of the old tracks, but it made my impression of newer Mario Kart having too wide tracks even bigger because all the old tracks seemed wider than ever. Maybe I didn't played it enough to see the good sides of it.

@Gold_Ranger Thanks for the word, I phrased my critic badly. Wider was what I meant with "larger" (the worst being the 64 episode whose tracks were also quite empty). And you made me realize I also missed the coins gathering.

Re: Video: The Complete History Of Mario Kart

Rei

I am still not over the road's enlargement started in N64... (the game looked great but it was almost unfunny to run inside those overlarged tracks compared to playing Super Mario Kart)

I almost bought either the DS or 3DS games then I thought it could have only become worst in that aspect. So, no racing game from after the 64bits times for me. -_-"

Re: Review: Garou: Mark of the Wolves (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

Rei

@Tetsuro @Tetsuro I see. Sorry, I was only reacting to what I understood from the review (that any people ignorant of this kind of gamewould be able to see its good points in terms of a fighting game): I think that such things are clear to see in this genre only if you have played a minimum of this kind and are appreciated only if you have a certain taste for beat'em up games.

PS: I played a lot to those games with my little brother back when he was a SNK and Terry fan but I tended to prefer SvC as "recent" NeoGeo game and Real Bout (not sure anymore wich episode, probably the Special or the second one). I also largely prefered the graphic style of the Real Bout series.
What I am trying to say is, I certainly have not the ability to judge those games since I am not quite knowledgeable.

edit: just read a previous comment, I doubt a 4 year old child would notice the pirate's boobs dancing on their own. XD I know I was not sensible to all the breasts and penises in Dragon Ball.
