Koei Tecmo is supporting the Switch with two of its biggest franchises - Nobunaga's Ambition and Romance of the Three Kingdoms - and has just released some lovely trailers to promote them.
Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence and Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII aren't entirely new releases and have previously been available on consoles like the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, but they will make welcome additions to the Switch's 2017 lineup - especially in Japan where both series have quite a large following.

It's not known if either of these games will make their way to the west, but the region-free nature of the Switch means that if you're able to read Japanese, you could always import. Let us know what your plans are by posting a comment below.

During the Switch Presentation I saw what I thought was Dynasty Warriors.
I guess this was what it was. Ah well
definatly be grabbing a copy down the line. Eastern games are so crazy and amazing
I never got into them. I tried too. To many names to remember.
I'm interested, for anyone with experience is it possible to play games like these without knowing any Japanese?
Can we get these in the west? I know the Switch is region free but I don't speak Japanese...
Romance of the three kingdoms is one of the best series of games all time.
Too bad no western release ;_;
edit: ALTHOUGH, RotTK XIII was localized already for PS4 and PC
So... maybe?
Two fantastic looking trailers there, but I'm not seeing much gameplay footage, if any. And as I don't quite have Japanese down yet I think I'm gonna have to wait for a localisation.
@Megas I ain't bothered by region lock but by the MASSIVE amount of text that these games have. My japanese ain't that fluent
It'll have to be translated before I'd have any interest in them.
@gcunit They are both 2014-2015 games, you can find gameplay videos from youtube if you just want to know what they are like.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Plw30yI376I Nobunagas Ambition here. Looks great strategy game.
Both these games have already been localized in the west as PS4 exclusives.
They'd be fools to not release in the west when they're already putting them on Switch and already have finished localizations.
Of course they'll release in the west.
@dparmar005 : I strongly, strongly doubt it given the text-heavy nature of these games and the fact that these will be aimed at older audiences who are considerably proficient in Japanese (Pokémon games for instance, at least give you the option of playing the game with Hiragana/Katakana only, which is ideal for novices in Japanese literacy or Kanji for those with advanced literacy).
You'd best hold out for a localised version, or stick to importing Japanese games with simpler, more straightforward styles of gameplay.
I wonder if these will ever make it to the West. I would certainly pick them up if not for the language barrier.
Given that both games have fully localised English releases on PS4 and PC, I am cautiously optimistic that K-T America/Europe will release them in the west, and I hope they do. Strategy titles like these are perfect for the Switch, and any excuse to re-play Sphere of Influence is welcome - it's one of my favourite games for the PS4, and one of the few reasons I keep mine around.
Not two games that I'm interested in, but glad to know that the Switch will actually have some support this time around.
I want another pirate themed Uncharted Waters one
Please give us English! Please!
@dparmar005 I wouldn't try the Japanese one. They're complex enough in English
Not a big fan of these kind of games but the music in trailers in breathtaking. Will check out the soundtracks
OMG those games were so hard on SNES!!! BRING IT TO ME IN ENGLISH Pretty Please!!!
It would be sweet if Nintendo allowed 'mods' for the Switch, and then we could make and download fan translations, making imports all the better!
I have NA currently but I am willing to triple dip for portability.
I will say Nobunaga's Ambition is good. Buy it. Speaking of which. Any NA users want an unopened copy of the ps4 version?
Hmm. Haven't played these series in a LONG time. Played ROT3K II on SNES tons of hours back in the day. I'll have to check reviews on more recent entries to see how they are now. I do like part IV which is on VC too.
9800 yen +tax? Are these games always this expensive?
A game 'bout Nobunaga's trickery
that will explain Eastern history
if you want to be a villain number one
you have to hack and slash those guys on the run!
Just follow my moves, and sneak around...
be careful not to make a sound!
[waves of soldiers thrown around]
(No, don't touch them!)
>Hook<
Nobunaga's gone
Hey!
Nobunaga's gone
Nobunaga's gone
Ha ha ha...
now look at this sword, that I just found!
When I say go, be ready to throw!
Go!
[stabbed]
(Throw it on him, not me!)
(Ugh, let's try something else.)
Now watch and learn, here's the deal
They'll slip and die with this banana peel!
(Ha ha ha!)
[the NPC allies die]
(What are you doing!?)
>Outro<
Ba-ba-biddly-ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba...
Nobunaga's gone!
Hey!
Ba-ba-biddly-ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba...
Nobunaga's gone!
Ba-ba-biddly-ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba...
Nobunaga's gone!
Hey!
Ba-ba-biddly-ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba...
Nobunaga's gone!
Hey!
Hey!
@dparmar005
I did.
Well, not interested at all with Dynasty Warrior series but I play some Japanese NDS games. I can read, write and understand all Hiragana and Katakana but still struggle with some Kanji letters. I'm still newbie in Japanese grammar and vocabulary but understand some basic Japanese words like Item (pronounced in Katakana AiTeMu), New Game (Usually written in either Hiragana or Katakana HaJiMeKaRa), Attack (TaTaKaU), Magic (MaHoU), Skill (WaZa), Yes (Hai), No (iie), Wait !! (Matte !!), "Wow..!" (Ara..! for woman, ""Are...! common), Too Bad (Zannen na / Zannen desu ne), "It can't be ! / Impossible ! (Sonna...!), I'm so excited ! (Wakuwaku da na !), Of course !(Mochiron !), I don't know ( Wakarimasen), etc.
Well, have fun with Japanese language. There is nothing wrong to learn some foreign languages.
Dear Nintendo, you need to do exactly one thing to get me to buy a Switch: come out with a Rogue Squadron: Rogue One game.
Nice, good to see this series back on Nintendo platforms. I bet it'll come west eventually.
Nobunaga's Ambition had an English release on PS4. I'm not sure about ROt3K 13
though.
@Nintenjoe64 There is an Uncharted Waters Online, but it's not by KT. It's okay but it's not UW2, so a full on Uncharted Waters 3 would be awesome.
The other thing I want is Genghis Khan 3, and maybe a Warriors title based on it, with characters from all over Asia, Europe and North Africa.
Yay more old ports no one will really pick up.
@FantasiaWHT Rogue One has nothing to do with Rogue Squadron.
And EA Games Star Wars games (like Battlefront 3) are weak nostalgia cash ins, just like the last 2 movies.
@whanvee Every post before yours seems to indicate otherwise.
I've been interested in these games but never got round too playing them I may give them ago on the Switch.
Importing would be the easier part of this, players on my country are used to it for years
The problem would be to read japanese for sure.
I watched Romance of Three Kingdom as anime movie. It was 2 parts. Amazing movie with strong story and captivating music!
Things are looking better already. Within a few days after the presentation, we're just getting more and more Switch game news. That's brilliant! I think it's bringing everyone's spirits up. Because once perspective is put in place regarding Switch's launch schedule, people are beginning to realize that it's actually looking very strong. A horrible launch isn't immediately the end.
Besides, we're still being fed Launch day line-up games even now, so we know Zelda isn't the only game we have to start with. Isaac, anyone?
Thank god that the Switch is Region Free.
@AlexSora89
ROFL XD XD XD
What a hillarious song... !
It seems from the trailers both are slated for a March release. That's good. Gotta ramp up that launch window library.
@Anti-Matter
Eh, it's not my finest work by a long shot.
Wow the Switch already has better support than the Wiiu ever did.
@H_Hunter There are Sangokushi japanese animated movies translated out there?!
The article fails to mention that they titles will come with a "Power-up Kit", whatever it means.
My Japanese is not that rusty after all.
Both games looks nice but more interested in Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Also is it just me or do a lot of those characters appear in the movie Red Cliff?
@Rei This is a small clip on YouTube but dubbed in Arabic:
https://youtu.be/y-TI2TEQgXE
You can find both on them inthe west on Ps4
I do hope they bring the localized version to the Switch. I'd be willing to pick them up, more strategy games are always a welcome addition.
@MadAdam81 I just know that the settings of Rogue One would make an awesome Rogue Squadron game. I've missed those so much and would love to see another one.
If i have some money left and they are localized I'll be picking one , maybe... but these games show that the switch is gonna be a fantastic console...
@Arnold-Kage I believe the battle of red cliffs is just one of the many during the Three Kingdom period in Chinese history. That's probably why you can recognize some movie characters from the trailer. ;P
@River3636 Your "too" and "to" are backwards. I don't know why, but it annoyed me
@jbopatrick Your correction annoyed. You cannot rely on auto correct when the words are spelled right.😀
@H_Hunter Thank you. Too bad it doesn't help me. ^^" (now on a quest to find those movies or at least the TV specials base don the same story)
@Arnold-Kage The battle of the Red Cliff is an episode of this famous story. So, it makes sense.
@Rei & @RGnsd
Really did not know that but thanks for telling me. As you now got me even more excited for that game.
@Arnold-Kage If you are interested in this and don't mind historic inaccuracy, the chinese Three Kingdoms era fame is in part due to its medieval novelization : http://www.threekingdoms.com/ . It is part of those Four Great Classicals in chinese literature (among Journey to the West/Gensômaden Saiyuki in jap. and Water Margin/Suikoden).
Those classics are also pretty well known in Japan (though mayb through japanese "re-novelizations").
@Rei
Thanks for the link i be checking it out for sure.
I hope they'll bring these west!
