"For you Europeans, would you like to see this come to your region?" Absolutely! {remembers Popolocrois...} Oh,well, no interest for a virtual purchase, too bad for my RPGs lust I was born in Europe.
Too bad, I saw this project as a way to not get depressed after my failed attempt at buying the full games card. But in the end, I won't have the real game nor the translation I wished...
Now wondering if I will ever play this thing.
Too bad I am still clearing MH4U and some DS RPGs... I'll probably be done with the 3DS ones in a generation xD
@Trinexx If I wanted to rate FE, it is not the censorship/localization who would damage the note but the marketing strategy who prevented me to buy the three games as a solid item.
No platform game?! Wario Land 4 has nothing to do with the Ware games and should be considered apart. And the Rockman Zero series earned at least one place in this kind of list.
@KomrathDE Amateur programmers have made it possible to encapsulate any GBA rom with the Nintendo GBA VC application for 3DS into a CIA file (eshop installation file for 3DS). Every game I tried ran perfectly. Actually, the technique is available for almost every game on any existing console officially emulated/played by the 3DS. (NES, GB, SMD, GG, PCE, SNES for n3DS)
A compilation of the first X on 3DS would be great. But I would rather see a new "period", where they keep the plateform and game original spirit while tweaking/adding some gameplay elements. Like when X was released, or Zero, or ZX... On 3DS if possible (of course, I know this last part is impossible XD)
I always regretted that Rockman ended with the ZX series.
@Sakura Indeed, any 3DS right now can be downgraded in order to run amateur programs or be reconfigured to play unsigned game copies.
On another side, I'm pretty happy to have the free region opportunity. But, true, I used it to pirate too: I downloaded a few fan-translated SNES roms encapsulated into the new SNES VC application for my n3DS (no PC since a long time).
@garfreek I don't even think you legally "own" the game. (I should check the e-shop user agreement and the rules you can read while buying)
@Kokusho Sorry about the hypothesis, by eshop shutdown, I wasn't referring to the shutdown of Nintendo's online selling services but only the support of an "old" console.
About the chance of losing my cartridges, yes, I indeed forgot they are so tiny compared to my old home consoles games. XD But I mostly play at home and I only "travel" with one game in the cartridge slot.
@Kiyata I have the same incomprehension for people who collect those enormous virtual libraries on an electronic device.
@Andrzej777 I checked the name, Sony released a console without any reading entry, called the Playstation Go. I understand it was a big "flop".
@Kokusho I have some trouble to see how it is irrational and hard to imagine Nintendo turning off the 3DS e-shop in a few years. I still have my N64 (and still regret the lack of a SFC/SNES) and can play games on it. Sure, it might happen that a game cartridge dies (or worse, the machine itself) but if I own only virtual games, I won't have this semi-permanence available to me.
Absolutely not!
I don't want games who're bound to disappear with my current console and/or the current "e-shop" service.
ヾ( ̄O ̄)ツ
Fire Emblem Fates for example, were the bonus maps not enough already? Since I can't have three cartridges for the 3 games, I won't give anything to Nintendo! I can't support such ideas. What was there to lost by releasing the full cartridge or three different ones instead? Since I can't have all on an actual game card (even as import), I just took an illegal copy I will play patched.
Sorry, I still did not digest it.
edit: I obviously hate the discrepancy between America, Europe and Japan. I was forced to buy SMT4, Code of Princess, the Gyakuten Saiban trilogy and the Guild games as a bunch of datas just because I am french. I only payed for those because they were discounted (at that time, RegionFree was not accessible to every 3DS) Now, there are the Rockman NES compilation and the Popolocrois "Harvest Moon" and soon... the third point-and-click game. Curse them all! (import ing is better but not cheap enough)
@BaffleBlend The intention was good, noone can't say this is not true. I personnally would have liked it if they just towned down the melodramatic reaction. Something like "let's face the "bad" consequences but not forget about why we did it". (something in the middle of what was the case in japanese, and what we have here like gray with black and white).
At the end, I will still the game (if I ever find it since all the 2016 3DS RPGs are non-existent in my region, how reat is this)
@Tsurii Same here. Might still import it, since I have 80 euros left for nothing -_-
Everything is great for 3DS owners here... After Popolocrois, this... And a minute ago, my games shop refused me a Fire Emblem full edition, after telling me monday to not call again before thursday. -_-
@XCWarrior "super-hard" levels are removed? I know it is supposed to be for the entire family but it is a plateformes game, everyone should be able to enjoy it at his "level". Or it excludes people.
Currently playing it on my 2DS. It's sad the second book was never fully translated (and the patch has some graphic glitches)
Great review, I was expecting more of a 7 (due to its raw content compared to later entries) but a 8 is good.
@Whopper744 Shadow Dragon is an enhanced remake but only for the original game (= first book of the SFC remake + some chapters who were cutted out).
We never got the second part who remakes the second book of the SFC version (Shin Monsô no Nazô DS).
Still, not a fan of the renewed artworks for most of the characters (I like some of Shirow Masamune works, but this style wasn't marrying well with Fe for me)
edit: @earthboundlink your answer is in my post. ^^
My favourite Mario game. I had such a hard time to convince my friend who owned the Super Nintendo to take it when all he was looking forward was the next wave of console. At least, I finished it 100% several years later on PC/Wii. ^^
I love Super Mario kart (in fact, I never took any liking into any further iteration) but seeing how late the SFC VC games come into the console life, it misses the multiplayer option. (I am not talking about online multiplayer, merely a download play emulation)
I am still waiting for a price cut on SML3D and NSMB2, 45-50dollars after so much time. Seriously? MH4U, supposed to be a major title for the console too, costed me only 35€ the release day..
@Mahe I first met a Select line when I bought my original Game Boy in 1998. There were several Game Boy games packed in a red box with a reduced size cover illustration. After that, there has been the "Player's choice" collection (or was it another name?) in the last year of the Nintendo64. I never had a GameCube but I am pretty sure this offer existed on it too. Then the Wii had its "Nintendo Select" titles (in its later life) exactly like its predecessors.
Great news, I will have to get the Last Window fast. Obviously, the game genre is not appealing enough to secure a japanese physical release, so it is a half good thing.
@Farpun I don't see a physical release coming to the West when there was none announced for Japan. Based on the game genre (again) and how late we are in the console life, I would not even bet on a western release at all.
@Arngrim Actually, there are people out there who are currently doing exactly that: releasing their favourite SFC or SNES ROMs (with hacks or not) inside the Nintendo SNES VC.
@Sticker That is one game and one game only. My own 2DS can run it too, and several other games more or less nicely (=more or less dropped frames to maintain the speed). But it is rather limited.
@WiltonRoots Right now Link has a "universal" voice. Enter in the voice acting domain and Link will not be the same for every player on the Earth, unlike Mario.
I would have voted Mario Kart if I had only taken Super Mario Kart into account. Globally, Paper Mario and Picross are the best game series borned out of the character. If there was not Mario maker in the list, I would have choosed Mario Golf. Still, it is a bit unfair to judge spin-off series when some are single titles.
I love Ocarina of Time, but was it really something new? I always saw it like a Link to the Past in three dimensions with the Z-lock to make it even more "2Dplayable" , it generously took from the third game. Actually, I tried all the Zelda (except the Wii and DS ones) and they all come from the same mold. (who's pretty good)
If they only stay away from the N64 heritage, it won't be "new". (and what will be removed from the formula? Z-lock?)
Glad they offered this emulator, now I can purchase a few 16bits roms legally aside from the SMD ones I already have (won't do it oft, thanks to the price but Zelda is a sure thing). But the most interesting thing is I can finally play a lot of roms I could not suffer on the 2DS: the Dragon Quest I-II compilation being the first one!
For the games who works decently on my 2DS, no reason to purchase/inject them for the n3DS.
@JohnnyC "the ones released in the ambassador programms" are not roms runned by an emulator packed with them, they are GBA roms directly played by the DS part of the machine.
On wich component could SNES roms be relying in the 3DS exactly? None, it has to be emulated, and sadly Nintendo doesn't want to make lot of dedicated tweaks to roms themselves or the emulator in order to improve the global experience. Personnally, I have nothing against it nor against frameskipping.
I think that they simply decided they wouldn't do it on 3DS because it would have ranged from acceptable (through use of numerous tweaks) to unplayable. There are even games who will never be emulated on n3DS. ^^
I remember how the few N64 players I knew were all over this game, proclaiming it the best cars game on the console (while magazines were'nt short either about it). Me? I liked Top Gear more (SNES, but even the 64 were good enough) but I was never a fan of simulation. (I loved Ridge Racer 64, so much time lost on it)
Well, those Rockman X with chips will probably be mine if they come here. What would really be great would be an official translation of Genealogy and Fire Emblem 3 for the West _. For this, I will pay their full price, even if it seems not cheap, to encourage such decision and maybe a potential remake of Geneaogy of the Holy War later ( too late for the New3DS, sadly)
@iamDTS Not sure about Megaman X but emulators on 3DS can run Castlevania IV.
Castlevania @TrueWiiMaster To be fair, the old 3DS modles are running any of the GBA roms I tried out perfectly, as long as they are used through the official Nintendo Ambassador VC emulator. What I mean is: the console is able to run far more GBA games than there were in the ambassador program.
@gcunit @Hordak When I saw the New 3DS first photos, I instantly thought "Super Famicom", it was clearly made on purpose. But the timing to start the releases is very bad, more than a year after the console Japan release.
@CharlieSmile With the execrable adaptation of its first US release? The GBA version translation was way more accurate.
If Donkey Kong 3DS gets the same price in Europe, I'll take it. I would have loved SML3D for 3DS to get a reduced price too. About Zelda, any chance it will be the exact same version as the first prints? (i.o.w. still having the bug used for exploit)
@WillTheLion But: you might then send your Gen.2 arranged monsters to Gen.1, from wich they could be transfered to Gen.7 ^^ (or is it still Gen.6?)
What catched my attention: the possibility to inject other games outside the Pkmn franchise inside this new GB VC in order to get GameLink support. @_@
Where did people got the games before today? Someone had even the time to encapsulate Crystal into the "updated" VC emulator to test the Link functions.
@MrPuzzlez I see. The West is usually less creative. My consoles were lowered to 9.2, I can use homebrews/RegionFree without any problem. ^^ (the only one will be the shipping costs xD)
I thought I would buy the game in the first week, until they decided not to release a game card in Europe. Now, I even learn there are more slowdowns than in the original game played on a NFC. o_o
I will buy it if the US card price goes down to 20-25€ (with no excessive shipping cost)
I entered three or four codes who were delivered over Twitter a month ago (including Manaphy, the Zygarde forms, Jirachi and Mew). I thought it was an official announce. ^^" Since then I have no option anymore. @RIC616 @RupeeClock The japanese direct presentation clearly said "free-to-start".
Despite I dislike the way they always point me where to go next in Inazuma or LBX, I kind of like the overall presentation of both, so I might be panicking over nothing.
@PlywoodStick Not exactly, the currently existing patch can't be applied, but the team announced they would do a patch for the US to get the cut-out portions and/or their version of the translation (not sure exactly).
BUT a common thing on 3DS is the "undub" thing: someone "rip" a data pack with audio off the original jap.game then you place it on your SD card and activate a program who will launch your game and "redirect the datas read" on the downloaded file. Sorry if this is unclear ^^" (not good in explaining things)

@FantasiaWHT The first part was true... in Japan. In the West, it seems you buy a version or another.(read that somewhere yesterday)

@Nintendian The first numbers are the current 3DS system version number. The last two digits only indicate the web browser version included.
Re: 3DS System Version 10.6.0-31 is Now Available
@Kolzig The browser entry point and the home menu entry point (through theme ext.data), if I remember right.
Re: Yo-kai Watch Begins Its European Quest on 29th April
@Dankykong You are worrying me...

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Fates (3DS)
@PlywoodStick Not exactly, the currently existing patch can't be applied, but the team announced they would do a patch for the US to get the cut-out portions and/or their version of the translation (not sure exactly).
BUT a common thing on 3DS is the "undub" thing: someone "rip" a data pack with audio off the original jap.game then you place it on your SD card and activate a program who will launch your game and "redirect the datas read" on the downloaded file. Sorry if this is unclear ^^" (not good in explaining things)
