Re: Nintendo Reportedly Showed 'Switch 2' Demos To Developers At Gamescom

Ravenmaster

There wouldn’t be any need to re-release BotW on Switch 2 because all they’d need to do is up the resolution in the setting and turn on anti-aliasing. Maybe up the textures in settings too. We know it’s already possible thanks to CEMU. I’ve seen an entry level PC with RTX 3060ti run the game in 4K 60fps with much greater graphical clarity. Switch 2 is rumoured to be using an Ampere SoC (30 series) so that would match up.

Re: New Interview With Zelda Boss Suggests There Are No Plans For TOTK DLC

Ravenmaster

Makes sense. TotK was all the extra BotW DLC ideas rolled up into one full game.

I do feel like the Ancient Hero from the mural could have been elaborated on though. Surely there's a DLC story in that. Or even of Zelda's time spent in the Distant Past. We could have played as her in a DLC chapter.

Guess the Zelda team has finished with TotK and is brainstorming for the next title in the franchise. Switch 2 will need a brand new Zelda game I suppose.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Graphics - The Most Beautiful Switch Games

Ravenmaster

I find it difficult to call any Switch games visually beautiful. The aged hardware is holding the artists back so much. Totk is probably the best looking game on the console but it could look so much better if the hardware could handle textures, anti-aliasing, shading, lighting better. I've seen BotW running in 4K on PC (emulator) and it is truly glorious. I just wish Nintendo would catch up so their games finally reach their full potential visually. And not just that - if they had better hardware behind them all the games would run at better frame rates instead of being stuck at sub 30fps. Nintendo's artists have done wonders to make BotW and Totk look as good as they do. But now i've seen them running at 4K 60fps with better textures, I want it to happen officially and legally. Switch 2 can't come fast enough.

Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch's Year 7 Compare To Previous Nintendo Consoles?

Ravenmaster

If you look at the pattern, previous Nintendo consoles have had 6 year cycles and stopped being supported during the 7th. I think we'll get a Switch 2 announcement after April 2024 and a release for the new console later that year. Hopefully with NoS, we'll be able to take our retro games across to the next console. Nintendo sort of hinted earlier this year that such a feat would be easier to pull off now that their subscription service is in place. It would also be super cool if the next console was fully backwards compatible with current Switch games.

Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch

Ravenmaster

I used to like the motion controls in Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii. But having tried motion controls in Skyward Sword HD and Metroid Prime HD on the Switch, I quickly grew to dislike them. The Switch's joycons are a lot less accurate compared to the Wii-mote. I found myself turning motion controls off in both those games eventually because I got sick of the gyro constantly de-calibrating itself. I honestly didn't think they'd be moving backwards with the newer tech with regards to aiming accuracy, balance etc.

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Busier Hyrule Is Making Me Miss BOTW

Ravenmaster

Some parts of BotW were too empty, some parts of TotK were too cluttered. It's 6 and two 3's. In the next Zelda game (probably in 5 years or so) Nintendo would do well to find a happy middle ground. I really love both games but I found some parts of TotK unecessarily irritating.

For instance:-

1) Lizalfos only drop their tails for you to collect some of the time when you kill them. This makes grinding for set upgrades even more tedious than it was in BotW.

2) In Totk you have Satori trees to help you locate caves. But the beacons that show you where the caves are were all one colour. Doesn't matter if you've entered said cave or not, it will always show up under a pale green Satori beacon. It would be much more useful to players if beacons had 2 colours. One to show a cave's location and another colour to show that the player has entered that cave before. Several times i found myself heading towards a beacon that I thought was a new cave, only to realise it was one i'd already been in. And other times i'd ignore a beacon thinking i'd already been to that cave when really I hadn't.

3) Caves on the surface world in general - there were just too many of them.

In BotW we had Koroks, Shrines, Set ingredients to grind for.

In Totk we have Koroks, Shrines, Set ingredients, Bubble Gems, Chasm seeds, Hudson signs, Zonaite ore, Zonaite charges to grind for.

Re: Nintendo's Investor Q&A Promises Switch Isn't Dead After Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Ravenmaster

The current Switch may not die after TotK is released but in all honesty, it should. Nintendo would be much better off if they had a console that could do 4K 60fps with 2x anti-aliasing and is backwards compatible with current Switch cartridges. A modern SoC that supports DLSS could make that a reality. They need a console that can run at smooth frames rates when paired with a modern day 4K TV.

Re: Nintendo Wins "Switch Joy-Con Drift" Class Action Lawsuit

Ravenmaster

Thing is though, Nintendo wouldn't need to have a free repair route for their joycons if they improved the design so that stick drift no longer occurrs. I've had every Nintendo home console to date as well as several handhelds and the Switch seems to be the only one with large numbers of stick drift. They're clearly doing something wrong in the engineering department.

Re: Random: Masahiro Sakurai Says He Prefers To Buy Video Games Digitally

Ravenmaster

As PC gamer primarily, I prefer to purchase my games digitally. But that's because they're kept in my Steam library and every time I upgrade my PC I can still take my library over to the new hardware.

Unfortunately with Nintendo, they have a horrible habit of NOT letting you port your titles over to the next console. So many of my favourite Nintendo games are still trapped on useless relics like the Wii U. No Switch versions of Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD. No Gamecube Mario Kart Double Dash or Eternal Darkness on my Switch. Nintendo are their own worst enemy in that respect because it drives fans to emulators.
