Unfortunately, this seems often par for the course from Wayforward. Their games that they really care about, such as Shantae or River City Girls, are really well made, but most licensed stuff or franchises owned by other companies are pretty poorly made. It's a shame.
If it's still online only then it won't get a penny from me, I'm afraid. It might be fun, but those servers could go offline any time, and then that's money totally wasted.
Happy birthday, Switch. Absolutely terible hardware, but you can't argue with its insane software library! A fantastic console to bow out of gaming with; the backlog will keep me playing for years.
@Uska NH was such a downgrade on what I loved about Animal Crossing, man. It's a cute and creative "my little island and dollhouse" simulator, but the residents have even less personality or interesting stuff to say. And it was painfully lacking in content at launch.
On another note, I still struggle to understand why everyone complains about the bosses? Do people want to speed through them in 30 seconds? I thought they were fun and challenging. Exactly what a boss should be.
These are usually 20 mins of mobile game event rubbish, then 5 mins of new info actually aimed at the people who are big enough fans to tune into the presentation.
There's still some good 3rd party stuff to come to Switch. I'd love to see updates on Penny's Big Breakaway, Silksong, Shantae, a physical release of Freedom Planet 2, and any of Level-5's games. Plus any cool surprises are always welcome!
@Aswannsong I think the YouTube video embedded and the title, "Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis..." miiiiiight count as giving them credit, linking sources, etc.
I've never had any coloured cartridges, but I did like it when the odd Wii, Wii U, and 3DS game box was a different colour (New Super Luigi U in green, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in red and blue, etc). I'd be up for that again, and sure, do coloured cartridges too!
@Switcher2023 Typically more niche boxed Switch games reduce in price. Bayonetta 3 is around £20 now, for example. And I am interested, but I've already got the originals, so it's not worth £40-45 to me.
I had decided to wait for Another Code to drop in price, but now I'm worried it might just sell out really quickly if there's not much stock.
@larryisaman Saaaame. I'm interested in Famicom Detective Club, but Nintendo haven't once put it on sale, so I simply haven't bought it. This is a strong case against an all-digital future.
My overall thoughts on Switch are positive, just about. The quality of its game library is outstanding, and that is just strong enough to paper over the cracks of awful controllers, paid online, cartridges that aren't large enough for some games, expensive console, tiny internal storage, having to buy another set of controllers or charging grip if you want to charge controllers while playing docked (I mean really, that is unforgivable), etc. But its games are great, it's brilliant for local multiplayer, and of course being both handheld and home has its advantages.
Wonder was finally a good 2D Mario game after 20 years of copy-paste, unimaginative crap. The fact the article makes a point of new animations being such a big thing in Wonder, shows how hopelessly stale the New series was, not just in gameplay, but in visuals too. Here's to future Mario games being more like Wonder.
@LikelySatan The game clearly shows how to play the game, and re-emphasises it with mini challenges. I'm honestly baffled with how the reviewer struggled with parts of the game. It was a lot of fun. Just takes time to master.
Great to see! The free update is fun, but could have been balanced better, so it's nice to see that improved.
@FishyS The game has added lots of content since release, including new levels, characters, and story elements. But the core gameplay is the same. It's fun. Many of the niggles the reviewer on Nlife had, show that they simply didn't play the game properly. Complaints about bad battle mechanics and poor puzzles show that they didn't bother to pay attention. The game has multiple mini challenges throughout that teach you how to play properly. It just takes some time to get used to the mechanics. Sonic is fast, but he's not uncontrollable. You can fine tune the controls in the options menu too. Some levels require a few playthroughs to find the optimum route. There can be the odd glitch where you fall through a rail or bounce off a wall weirdly, but these are very rare. The story is nice. The music is ace. On Switch, the graphics have been lowered, but the game keeps a fairly solid framerate as a result. Check out some gameplay footage on YouTube before buying it. See if it looks like your kind of thing. That's what I did first.
I don't care either way. I don't use any of the streaming crap. I actually didn't realise there are so many different ones now. I buy games consoles to play games on. But sure, add them in for other people if they want them. I don't have to download them.
I mean more Layton is great, of course, but I don't think I'd want to play inferior versions of the games. The Switch isn't dual-screen. They would have worked a treat on Wii U.
Having said that, I'm curious to see how well Another Code works on Switch next year.
Capcom just seem to hate Europe these days. On Switch, I think the only physical games they've released have been the two Monster Hunters. Maybe Street Fighter? No Ace Attorney, no Ghost Trick, no Mega Man, not even Resident Evil. This won't get a physical release here.
Brilliant game! I already got the Japanese physical edition. Well worth it. It's probably the second best metroidvania I've played (after Hollow Knight).
I'll definitely get Shantae, and probably A Highland Song. So those make it a solid "good"; 7/10. Nothing else for me. Most "indie" games look and play like each other these days. I've got enough games, and they have to be pretty special to stand out now.
Nice! I've played the other 5 and enjoyed them all to varying degrees. I'll definitely get this to complete the collection!
@anoyonmus In my opinion, Pirates Curse is the best in the series. Although all of them are good! The 2nd one (or is it now 3rd?), Risky's Revenge is the shortest, so it might be a good place to start to see if you like the series. Half-Genie Hero and Seven Sirens are both lots of fun, but maybe slightly more "by the numbers" games. I personally preferred Seven Sirens, of the two. The original Shantae is probably the hardest game, and can be frustrating by today's game standards, so only start with that one if you're crazy, like I was! 😆

Lovely cute drawing!
Re: Feature: Is Any Mario Game Genuinely 'Underrated'? - 10 Super Mario Games To Reconsider
Nice list of overrated Mario games. Like, you gave NSMB Wii 9/10, and it's on your "underrated" list...
Genuinely, what are you talking about???
Re: Random: New Pokémon Ad Positions 3DS As 'Retro', And The Internet Disagrees
Nice lying title.
"Of course, the ad isn't actually suggesting that the 3DS has somehow graduated into the retro pantheon"
Then why does your title say it does??
@Peach64 Exactly!!
Re: Talking Point: What DS & 3DS Games Would You Still Like To See On Switch?
None. My 3DSes still work, and I don't really see the point in playing compromised versions on Switch.

Re: Sega Implies That Releasing Sonic Superstars Next To Super Mario Bros. Wonder Wasn't Smart
Being more expensive didn't help either.

Re: Batman: Arkham Knight Still Runs Poorly On Switch Despite Massive Update
Unacceptable. This collection should never have launched in the state that it did.
Re: Mother Creator On Third Game's Localisation: "Please Talk To Nintendo About That"
@Axecon Operation Rainfall only helped Xenoblade release in NA. It had nothing to do with it coming west. That was thanks to Nintendo of Europe.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Confirmed For Switch, Adds New Chapter & Storyline
Atlus' scummy practices strike again. And I bet there's day one DLC too. Honestly, I hope they go bankrupt. Such an anti-consumer company.

Re: Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution Game Boy Advance Pre-Orders Go Live This Week
Cool editions, but I'll just get it on the eShop to go with the rest of the collection.
Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Isn't Coming Until 2025, What's Nintendo Got Up Its Sleeve This Year?
Some of the Switch classics rereleased as Nintendo Classics at a cheaper price would be nice.
Re: Oops! Nintendo May Have Accidentally Revealed More Princess Peach: Showtime! Transformations
"a full-fat February Nintendo Direct is probably off the cards..."
Thankfully I've got a massive backlog to play, so I'm not complaining, but it is a shame. The Switch is finally running out of steam.

Maannn, hopefully we get some Nintendo news soon.
Re: Review: Another Code: Recollection (Switch) - A Welcome Return For A Pair Of Cult Classics

Re: Sonic Frontiers Latest Update Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
