1. Key cards are better than the code in a box rubbish, but still far worse than actual physical releases.
2. Nintendo is seemingly allowing for their bad behavior by even offering key cards to them. Although you're right, the 3rd parties are even scummier. I never said otherwise.
3+4. Put simply, key cards are yet another way for publishers to pass costs onto the customer. Couple this with the cost of the new express cards (and the Switch's laughably small internal memory), and it's a double blow to customers. Add to that the increase in first party game prices and accessories, and it's all far too much to justify.
I'm not saying I have a solution, but simply from my customer standpoint, I'm being offered worse quality for a higher price. And I refuse to accept that.
The first couple of paragraphs are just completely false. Contrary to what this article would imply, most PlayStation discs (at least on PS4) still contain a fully playable game on them, with the usual patches updating it. And there's a big difference between installing the games onto the hard drive from the disc, versus downloading the the whole thing onto the Switch from the servers. At some point in the future, the key cards will no longer function at all. My PS4 discs will still.
@michellelynn0976 I'm not trying to be rude, but as a customer, I'm not interested in what the specifics of Nintendo's pay scheme is. What I know is that these companies usually pay their higher ups ridiculous amounts (Nintendo being an exception), whilst upping the prices of their games, but including less content at launch, and (in Microsoft's and Sony's case) throwing in copious numbers of microtransactions. Nintendo, instead, never put their games on sale and will be objectively offering customers a worse deal than before with their key card nonsense, meanwhile Microsoft and Sony are similarly reducing quality across their services, whilst upping prices, and trying to force digital gaming to gain even more profits and control. For me, enough is enough. I'm not being milked by these greedy companies any longer.
Perfect time to get out of buying new games, as all 3 companies attempt to drain as much money from their customers as possible. Gotta get those CEOs another yacht!
I'm not paying £17 for each amiibo. £68 for the set is just too much. Nintendo are now completely pricing themselves out of my range on everything. Definitely not getting a Switch 2 either.
And Capcom should be ashamed for their amiibo at £25 each! That's shocking!!
@Ogbert "The games that use this are not the games that were going to get a "full game" on cart release anyway."
Poor Square Enix, Konami, and Capcom. This being the only way they can afford to put their games on cartridges must suck for them. Tiny indies that they are.
Look, I get that it helps indies put games on cartridges, but big publishers will take advantage of this too, and it's ridiculous.
"but you'll also be able to lend it out or even sell it if needed; something you certainly couldn't do with code-in-a-box releases."
Something you can already do with proper, physical games. But now you have to make sapce on your console's memory to store the game, so publishers can save some more money. There is literally not a single benefit of these key cards. They exist SOLELY to pass costs on to the consumer. And frankly, enough is enough. Anyone who can't see that they're being taken advantage of by greedy scumbags needs help.
The Wii U was the best by a mile. A few cool new games, and ports with new Wii U specific features. Definitely not "a bit naff", like you said dismissively.
Publishers pass every possible cost onto the customer that they can. It was bad enough with codes in boxes and cartridges requiring downloads. This key card rubbish just allows them to be even worse.
Nintendo are nickel and diming everywhere they can. As it stands, I have absolutely no interest in this ripoff console. Too expensive, nothing new and interesting.
And this is why having a physical option for a game is a good thing; price competition. Customers get a better deal! Go digital-only, and you're stuck paying whatever Nintendo tell you to pay.
I must be on a totally different wavelength to the majority of people here. I thought it was a solid 8/10 at least. Tomodachi Life, Rhythm Paradise, Everybody's Golf, Patapon, New AI spinoff, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion all looked great to me. Plus some cool indies and more Metroid and Pokémon info.
Cool, looking forward to it. It's a shame Nintendo are still using X to announce these things, though. I'd have hoped them (and Nlife) wouldn't want to support the platform.
I still need to play 3 and X, but so far they're all top-drawer games. The best series on Switch. Impossible to choose a favourite.
Also, Operation Rainfall was a campaign to bring Xenoblade (and The Last Story and Pandora's Tower) to North America, not "The West". Nintendo Europe already released the games here of their own accord.
@Maulbert I did. As usual, when something is being localised outside of Japan, Americans are pandered to, and to hell with the rest of The West. Nothing new. @Lanmanna I said nobody else in the west cares about baseball.
It sounds lovely, but how does it differ from the first game? I loved Ender Lillies, but if this is just more of the same, then I don't see too much point in playing it. Can we get some comparisons?
Good to see, and glad Nintendo aren't being pushed around by some very miserable people. I typically just ignore anyone who uses the word "woke" in a serious manner. They're not really worth listening to.
@Smithicus A trans person existing isn't political. Nintendo haven't gone against their anti-political stance.
We already knew it existed. This just confirms it. There isn't really anything to discuss until the Direct in April. So it's been pretty much a non-event so far. Just average.
@Bulborb Yes, I do trust P. And Nintendo aren't saying to be careful, they're saying don't do it at all. But as they've ended the official service, their faux caring rings pretty hollow. If they really cared, there would still be an official service, even if it was now paid for.

Re: Bravely Default On Switch 2 May Have Removed One Of The Game's Best Features
It's also missing 3D, AR cards, and Street Pass. And a proper cartridge. Stick with the superior 3DS release.

Re: Switch 2 Game-Key Cards Won't Make It Easy For Physical Collectors In Japan
The Switch 2 is officially DOA for me now. Just stupendously greedy and arrogant from Nintendo and all these third parties.

@GADG3Tx87 Fair! My PS3 is the same: set up, but gathering dust at the mo.
Re: Zelda Wind Waker Switch 2 GameCube Release Doesn't Rule Out HD Port
Enjoy paying £75 for it. I'll stick to the brilliant Wii U version.

Just like the Wii U gamepad had. Hopefully we'll have non-crap analogue sticks and d-pads in the next controllers too.
Re: A New Tomodachi Life Game Is Coming To Switch Next Year
Fantastic final announcement. I've been longing for a new Tomodachi Life!
Also happy to note what sounds like a separate UK localisation again in the Nintendo UK version of the video!

Re: Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance Is Getting A Limited Run Physical Switch Release
Poor show from Sega America, as usual. Hopefully this will get a proper European release like Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT did.

So the usual non-statement from TPC. They simply don't care about there fans. They only care about selling more.

Re: Pokémon Almost Became A "Gritty" Baseball-Themed RPG In The West
@DarthXenos Well, baseball was never going to work. Nobody outside of America really cares about that.
Re: Pokémon Almost Became A "Gritty" Baseball-Themed RPG In The West
America isn't the whole of "The West", so your title should really read 'Pokémon Almost Became A "Gritty" Baseball-Themed RPG In the USA'.
Re: Analyst Fears U.S. Tariffs Could Spell Disaster For Physical Games
@Obi-WonTheHighGround Congrats on voting in a fascist, I guess. Enjoy.
Re: Analyst Fears U.S. Tariffs Could Spell Disaster For Physical Games
@Ultimapunch Yep, Americans think they're the centre of the world. Just try to get Japan to stop producing physical games. Lol.
Re: Analyst Fears U.S. Tariffs Could Spell Disaster For Physical Games
America isn't the whole world. I don't see why these tariffs should affect games sold in other countries.

How about I do, anyway? Nintendo shut down the official online services. They've no right to dictate how people use the consoles they paid for.
Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (Switch) - Aping A Retro Classic
You can get the same game right now on Wii or 3DS for £8 out of CEX. Even the £36 Curry's are charging for this is more than 4x the price for the same game. Not worth it.
Re: So, Have You Pre-Ordered Donkey Kong Country Returns HD For Switch?
Of course not when it's 3 times the price they charged for it as a Selects title on 3DS, with no new content. Nintendo have done this far too often on the Switch.
Re: Sega Is "Evaluating" Its Own Netflix-Style Subscription Service
I mean, feel free Sega. It'll just be less money for you from me, as I don't buy any subscription services. No ownership, not interested.

It's published by Marvelous/Xseed though. Why can't it get a proper release?
Re: PSA: It's Your Last Chance To Get 'Sega Mega Drive Classics' On Switch eShop
Whilst I did notice input lag on Sonic 1 and 2, I haven't noticed it on anything on any others.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Donkey Kong Country Returns HD For Switch?
It's another previous Selects title being sold for full price. Nintendo would have to cut the price in half, at least, for me to even consider it.
