Re: Sega eShop Puzzler 'Puyo Puyo Champions' Is Getting A Physical Switch Release

Paraka

@EarthboundBenjy @HammerGalladeBro - The main problem is SEGA cannot get any major retailers on board to carry niche titles anymore without significant benefits to said retailer.

Even if this game opened up for 4 months of pre-orders, it would not even come close to the numbers retailers usually buy in bulk and carry. So why carry a game that sells thousands if you need to essentially shelve 100s of those thousands till clearance?

Sonic at least has sales numbers. Puyo wouldn't even come close.

@Dee123 - There is, they simply have to step up. Many of them have the potential, but locked either in their comfort zone, or simply plagued with their own imposter syndrome.

Sort of like most of Millenial and Gen Z talents.

@Mariotag - More like mystery dungeon genre than either you listed. But it does take more of a conplex role back when Wizardry was in its peak form. Cannot speak on the new one just yet.

Re: Just Like Us Mere Mortals, Square Enix's Staff Can't Wait To Get Their Hands On Switch 2

Paraka

@Selim - Well, technically Nintendo can pump out more games than the other two contenders. Even with them being bigger titans. Nintendo averaged just under 1 release a month.

If anything, the contenders need them more. It just so happens it is easier to drag and drop onto systems when the power is a lot more comparable. But many indies champion Nintendo being their biggest success, sometimes even bigger than their PC releases.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Donkey Kong Country Returns HD For Switch?

Paraka

@Bolt_Strike - Overtly, avoid buying the game outright is more beneficial for any consumer, compared to buying even a discounted port. Let alone a full priced one.

I am just saying don't expect Nintendo to see a slump of DKC sales and think, "Man, maybe we should make a new one instead." Sometimes these ports do actually funnel money to new projects, again, that is still not an obligation on the consumer.

Re: Lizardcube Co-Founder Leaves To Start New Game Company

So it has been about 4 years since SoR4, and their third game had not really been discussed or talked about.

Chances are, that game may be seeing a lot of contention behind the scenes, and Omar is seeing the writing on the wall and left before something bad arises.

This pattern happens all too often.

Re: Random: Guilty Gear Strive's Latest Update Apparently Censors "Inappropriate Angles"

Paraka

@AllieKitsune - I mean, that sort of trend comes with popularity and social media. Not quite the fault of GG and Arc Systems.

People would ship anyone to their perverse, socially okay fantasy they see fit if it meant approval of the right groups and ruffling of the wrong groups. Literally every anime has this whole sub-community doing that now, even older anime. Cause it's popular to, I guess, "goon" over personal fantasies that activates your almonds and share it to the world.

Re: After Almost 30 Years, Japan Finally Has A New Best-Selling Pokémon Game

Paraka

I am not surprised. Even given the mass amount of problems it has had (and many still have), it is still one of the better MODERN Pokémon releases. With many mechanical decisions that have bodded many other previous versions down.

I cannot say it's "up there" with the older releases, but I would be lying to say it is probably better than anything from X/Y and onward.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X Fans Are Once Again Discussing The Game's 'Censorship'

Paraka

The problem with this is that, although the boob slider is trivial and means nothing to me, the practice has always led to more changes that do affect what possible experiences are altered cause the argument is always that I was "fine" with the changes before. Cause everything change is always "It's just this," and "It's just that." Eventually you got a mound of trivial "just" changes that the game's overall experience is changed.

That essentially trains people to respond sooner and make less trivial matters more of a concern. I don't care of a boob slider, and I was a fan of the more conservative wedding dress change in Tokyo Mirage Sessions. But I didn't like the meme references in FE, nor the story beat changes in TMS.

But I am apparently just as much of a "fake fan" as those who opposed earlier changes. Cause "It was just one interaction," and "It was just that one chapter." Now I am in the same group defending chest sliders when I don't care for them, because I don't want those who change things consider continue changing things.

Re: Tales Of Kenzera Director Slams Publishers' Desire To Create "The Next Fortnite"

Paraka

This is probably going to get buried in the comments. But they're both right.

Everyone WANTS the next Fortnite, they WANT the next franchise to funnel money to other projects, stay afloat or simply have a tangible evidence to your success. Even this dev wouldn't balk at the idea that Kenzera turned franchise success if it happened.

The problem is the drive for it to be one. Many companies look around to see the next Fortnite, the next Shovel Knight, the next Undertale, the next Splatoon, the next Overwatch. They hope to get in so fast that the mere proxy is a win. That is just poor business, because gamers catch on far too quickly for that appeal to stick, if at all.

The reasons these games did such a success is because it was different, in some ways, abstract from the formula which still played into the core gameplay loop which was ultimately fun. The problem chasing these new hits is simply the time it would take to get there, and honestly, isn't worth it.

But I get it. Companies want a tentpole franchise to rely on, that their name sticks out because of its success. Maybe the money is used to experiment with greater projects, or just buy a lambo, but the safety net of not having to rely on your next game breaking even every release is tentalizing. Every company wants that, in every industry.
