Re: Poll: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Is Out Today, Will You Be Getting it?

Paraka

@Arawn93 - I will absolutely agree with this sentiment. The delay damned this game into oblivion, even an Oct. release would been better.

Releasing between a growing IP of Fire Emblem and the titan itself? Just fire the person who thought that was smart.

WayForward's style is fine by me, but their animations since 1/2 Genie Hero is, and forever be, icky.

Re: Poll: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Is Out Today, Will You Be Getting it?

Paraka

@YoshiFlutterJump - There is a difference from grinding levels, and making everything you earn in a game be greatly earned outside of battles.

Even ignoring XP, gold and confetti was earned far faster and easier in the overworld. Essentially making non-boss battles an obstacle as opposed to a reward system. Why fight when you already have everything spamming world refreshes in less time?

Re: Poll: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Is Out Today, Will You Be Getting it?

Paraka

@Cashews - It does, all of it, boils down to value.

For me, I value FF6 extremely highly. So I will buy the game collection. In spite of its price tag. Being able to finally play 4 & 5 are a bonus as I never got around to them. Yes, FF6 is basically soloing my wallet.

I am merely pointing out the inconsistence people have when it comes to their reasoning behind something. And my first post merely jesting at the results so early on.

Re: Poll: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Is Out Today, Will You Be Getting it?

Paraka

@Cashews - I don't think it will. We seen what Scarlet/Violet did with WAY worse bugs than BotW had.

Which is also amusing, in spite of bugs and frame rate issue, everyone praises the original BotW. A reason many won't get Advance Wars.

I can go further, FF Pixel Remaster is 70 bucks and everyone is excited about it here, no changes to the games but crisper pixels basically. Another reason people won't get Advance Wars.

Breaking down the aforementioned FFPR; 6 games turns into 12 bucks a game. Metroid Prime Remaster is 40 for one game, while Advance Wars is 30 a game. Another reason we see here people won't get the game.

Now, it's fine that you feel strongly of these points to why one won't get a game. But people are very inconsistent with it.

Re: Poll: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Is Out Today, Will You Be Getting it?

Paraka

@Thief - Which is amusing coming from the same people that sees a 10 dollar mark-up on what is essentially Zelda DLC as reasonable and the next masterpiece. The same community that think Nintendo is in dire, desperate need for EA's games in the same breath knock on every franchise it has. The same community that debated just a port of F-Zero GX with updated graphics would be good enough. Hell, you're justifying a major reason to not get a game for gold coins.

For the record; it's fine to not buy a game you don't want. However, in spite of my jest comment, I seriously do not think anyone here really knows what they want.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp

Paraka

Game industry remakes FF7, makes changes.

Community lashes out for changing the formula.

Game industry remakes Advance Wars, doesn't make changes.

Community lashes out for not changing the formula.

Game industry is making a game.

Community lashes out.

REMINDER: This is the same community that, months ago, wanted a port of F-Zero GX with "just updated graphics."

Re: New Advance Wars Switch Overview Trailer Introduces The Basics Of Battle

Paraka

@PikaPhantom - Well, I know I am getting it.

Same excuses saud about Reboot Camp can be said about Zelda and its 70 dollar price tag. But for some reason, everyone is justifying a price hike for Zelda, in spite of many recycled assets and landscapes, than a game with fully redesigned assets.

Zelda can wait for me, it will be around for YEARS. And since BotW was not all exciting, I don't think I trust paying MORE money for something that is already known to be less exciting.

Re: Japanese Charts: Atelier Ryza 3 Debuts In Third As Resident Evil 4 Knocks Kirby Off The Top Spot

Paraka

@Samalik - Gets worse when you start comparing Ps2 era games to PS4, notice the lack of major improvements graphically that are proportionate to the power of the tech provided.

In most of your PS4 games, they never reached the system's fullest potential for the way the game SHOULD have looked. Cause there is so much they chose to hide cause it was easier than hiring a whole QA team and optimize the games to reach their capacity.

And you don't need to use the Switch as a platform to point to it. Look at your standard min requirements on most PC games as well, look at how much more is required for, say, Borderlands 2 to the newest and ask yourself why the fidelity didn't boost as greatly as, say, the tech demos of the graphics cards of said requirements.

Re: Japanese Charts: Atelier Ryza 3 Debuts In Third As Resident Evil 4 Knocks Kirby Off The Top Spot

Paraka

@JONOFTHEJONS - A friend of mine has pointed out how tech is a constant safety net to hide optimization problems (2K using raw sound files for instance) made me further understand it's not about graphical fidelity more than it is about cutting corners we don't see under all the other performance based presentation.

Since then, I started noticing this in a LOT more games that get ported to the Switch. It doesn't have a large enough power rug to hid the shortcomings of the development. Thus is the new era of multi-platform development.

Re: Rumour: 2K Games Is Looking To Take On Mario Kart With 'LEGO 2K Drive'

Paraka

@Mgalens - The digital still applies to that metaphor, cause even though delisted, you can still get to that shelf in your neighbor's house. When a developer, or console, decides to close up shop. If you don't have the games downloaded, it's on you. It's fine if you value a game at 15 bucks if you personally believe the value is there, even if it's playing for just a week. Not going to get in the way of you spending your money. I just know if I wanted to, say, play Rolling Western a year from now, I better have it downloaded today, or find a 3DS with those games installed. I am a person who still plays N64 periodically, I know having physical is going to be a greater need than others.

Service based games are even more insidious cause your extent of playing any game is entirely dependant on what the developer wants it to be.

Cloud gaming is basically service games with extra steps. Which everyone should vehemently rally against.

Re: Rumour: 2K Games Is Looking To Take On Mario Kart With 'LEGO 2K Drive'

Paraka

@Mgalens - PS4 games have a caveat; The publisher of any particular game can choose not to have their game be supported by the PS5. Several PS4 games are not available on the PS5, many more will eventually come over, I am sure, but it's cross gen support is also up to the publisher.

As for the MS situation; While I do agree they handled things better, that doesn't mean it's still good. Cross gen digital is still, ultimately, in the hands of the publishers. For instance, if Square ever so decided that the FF7 ports of the original are hindering people from buying the remake, they can simply... Opt to no longer support it.

It's like keeping your video games in someone else's house. You cannot control when they finally decide to move and take the games with them.

Re: Rumour: 2K Games Is Looking To Take On Mario Kart With 'LEGO 2K Drive'

Paraka

@ParadoxFawkes - It applies to PC as well, the only reason they don't get as much blowback cause, simply, there isn't as much a transition from one platform to another. PC remains PC regardless of generation. But, we HAVE seen practices like this for Blizzard and Overwatch when moving to the sequel. Yes, it was "free," but that doesn't mean it always will be. And many games leaning into the "service" focus develooment doesn't help either.

And "its better to go digital PS4 onward," only works til the PS4 is also outdated. Then, if there is a PS4 game that has not received a port, well... Good luck finding a system with the game on it.

Re: Rumour: 2K Games Is Looking To Take On Mario Kart With 'LEGO 2K Drive'

Paraka

@ParadoxFawkes - I all but gave up on the PS family now knowing what I know now for their games.

Essentially, it's a pseudo barricade to fight back against used games, and making a market of having older games ported more and more for prices that cannot be competed with.

I like playing games for generations, it's a reason I enjoy physical far more than digital.

Re: Rumour: 2K Games Is Looking To Take On Mario Kart With 'LEGO 2K Drive'

Paraka

@StAmbrosius 2K?!

Ugh... Any publishwr our there just want to port the old Lego Racer games? I'd pay 60 for that over... Whatever this will be. Can't trust 2K. They have a track record of guzzling memory and their physicals are essentially all mandatory downloads.

Some proof, for those who apparently need it;

NBA 2K for the new HD Twins have MASSIVE file size day 1 patches;
https://gamerant.com/nba-2k23-file-size/

WWE 2K games have done the same, as well. And with companies like Activision already doing just a few MBs on a cart for a game like Call of Duty, it's reasonable to expect 2K to start exercising that method entirely as well.

Links to that as well, for the same reason;
https://www.91mobiles.com/hub/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2-ps5-physical-disc-reportedly-has-only-70mb-of-data/

I know it is not enough for some for just 1 link each, but not going to spam links constantly.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Atelier Game On Switch?

Paraka

@GrailUK - It's a tad difficult to say depending on what you like. Many "series" have fundamental changes to their mechanics that make them feel different from one another.

Honestly, I think Ryza has done immeasurable help to understand the series better. With many things streamlined to essentially "digest" what Atelier is. So start there.

After that, Sophie and the "Mysterious" series that follows are a good taste of what the series is capable of. Followed by "Arland" series, which I believe is a truest experience to all things Atelier.

Re: Countdown: Wii U eShop Spotlight - Pushmo World

Paraka

I remember a rumor (I know, it's controversial to mention) back in, roughly the the second year, there was going to be a "Pushmo Worldwide" which was intended to be something like a Collection +. With all the premade levels of the first releases and then some. Sad that never became a reality, would been a good idea to boost the IP.

Sadly, I don't have any links to those rumors, them being rumors and all. So backing up this claim is going to be difficult.

Re: Yes, Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Costs $70, Collector's Edition Announced

Paraka

All these comments, and not one, NOT ONE, is going to mention, factoring in inflation, this is actually cheaper than BotW was if this game released in March 2017?

Dude, I cannot even get a carton of eggs with that $10 difference anymore. Must be those greedy chickens and farmers, always scalping us from their golden dipped hen houses.

Re: Live Service Game Knockout City Will Shut Down This June

Paraka

@Snatcher - This is a prime example of what happened to KOCity.

EA has been removed for about a year from this project, and people still view it as an EA game, even after it went free to play.

It shows more of how toxic a brand is than it does how aware we are of what has happened.

And to provide evidence; Here is a report from back when it happened.

https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/knockout-city-is-going-free-to-play-and-splitting-from-ea-originals

I know it probably isn't enough, but I ain't spamming links.

This whole thing sucks, for sure, but as an old fan of HotS and especially Battlerite. This is a sad truth.

Doesn't help when a game drops below 1 million players it gets spammed as a "dead game" everywhere.

Re: Channel Your Inner 'Thing' With Super Adventure Hand, Launching This Year

Paraka

How on earth is anyone making a connection to Glover and this game? Has anyone googled that game recently?

There is some stark differences, let me tell you. A disembodied hand isn't enough, that's like saying National Geographic is Crash Bandicoot comics.

Aside from that; Don't hype this game up too much. It spawned off of physics testing and made a "game" out of it. Think of it like Goat Simulator, but with a hand.

Re: Advance Wars' Delayed Switch Release Might Finally Be Reporting For Duty

Paraka

Man, do I hate, hate, HATE the timing of this potential release.

Advance Wars was the funner game IS does between it and Fire Emblem (Though Codename STEAM still tops both), and opposed to releasing where there is room for the IP to grow, it gets released in between Fire Emblem, a growing flagship title for Nintendo and the god of adventure games, Zelda.

The sales are going to look bad in comparison, and Nintendo may just "F-Zero" it into oblivion.

Re: Talking Point: Where Should The Next Pokémon Legends Game Take Place?

Paraka

@Dom_31 - What if, instead of going back in time, Kanto's history was in the making? We've only had one game, so time travel isn't quite the "staple" people want to think it is. So that can be possible leverage to watch a "legend in the making" of Mewtwo, likely with connections of Mew. He took off north of Kanto, be a good excuse to work with Bill and the wilds up there.

That way, we don't need cheesy isekai moments again.

Re: Talking Point: Where Should The Next Pokémon Legends Game Take Place?

Paraka

I may be one of the weirdest ones; Kanto.

Now hear me out; Red/Blue is ultimately the origin of Mewtwo. But what if, by lore, Mewtwo was never caught? Set off northward where Kanto's wilds are still untamed. Gives us an excuse to still use crafting, get some old familiar faces, and maybe newer pokemon get Kanto based forms.

Re: Video: We've Played SteamWorld Build - Is It Any Good?

Paraka

@JohnnyMind - I understood, but there are exceptions to that.

Such as Warcraft, for example. The game itself is cartoony, but many of their cinematics feature architecture that is iconic to the series.

It's doable, but it is a pretty big challenge. Which cartoon styles have over realism any day.

Re: Video: We've Played SteamWorld Build - Is It Any Good?

Paraka

@JohnnyMind - The structures in the background are also remiscent to multiple Castlevania games.

But, your comment it still, ultimately, true. Almost every game that aims for realism tends to blur reckognizability into forgetable.

Gears of War, Devil May Cry, God of War, even some Zeldas struggle as Nintendo explored different styles. But I wouldn't say Fire Emblem has had realism in mind. I think it's more a problem that focuses character art as opposed to world building.

I was using this as an example that SteamWorld has a thematic notability on its side, which can be a reason its brand grows ever more popular regardless the genre. They just need that "one."
