Re: DNF Duel Is Getting A Nintendo Switch Port In Spring 2023

Paraka

I have not heard of DNF in a long time. Never played the actual game this is based on, but like RAID Shadow Legends, it always seems to been in my peripherals.

That being said, maybe this game may have all the weird quirks patched out. Had a better experience with SF4 on the 3DS in spite of its graphical limits because they balanced stuff out from the original release to then.

Re: New Game From Breath Of The Wild Dev Looks Like A Stunning Mix Of Disney, Anime And Zelda

Paraka

@AverageGamer - When it's on mobile, they design the flexibility to be accessed on the wider array of devices.

Using Genshin as an example of struggling on even the high end mobile is genuinely a pretty bad take, since that's evident of optimization struggles. But it HAS graphical options for lower end devices.

Your example proved me right.

The reason we have not seen it on Switch is cause is they're still trying to appease their largest market is an optimized option; Mobile.

That and China has plenty of Red ropes to dance around in.

Re: Random: Website Domain For Mega Man 12 Draws Attention Ahead Of Anniversary

Paraka

@YoshiF2 - You say that with a straight face when we all know full well X7 and X8 exists?!

Bold words.

Really though, I think X was the branch of "Let's do extra stuff in the game," which led to the bloat of stuff that didn't need to happen. If it's dialed back again, I can see X9 being a solid entry again.

Mainline, it's about simple mechanics with difficult challenge. Straightforward, no-nonsense. Probably why I still favor it.

Re: Switch Fighting Game ARMS Receives Its First Update Since 2018

Paraka

@Coolmusic - Unless there is tangible proof that a story Mode would have impacted the sales in a notable way, it's honestly just a wishful idea at this point.

2 million doesn't become "bad" when another game does better because it's more known. That's still 2 million people likely going to be interested in the franchise. Probably more when you consider used Game circulation and awareness from Smash.

Re: Japanese Charts: Bayonetta 3 Debuts In Second As PlayStation 5 Outsells Switch

Paraka

Cue the Nintendoom, it's Classic flavor!

Real talk though, even this late in the game Nintendo is managing massive attachment ratios for even games that struggle elsewhere.

And I am talking the "B Class" of games. Bayonetta, Disgaea, even Falcom is getting equal support from Switch as to their heyday in the west. That's pretty massive considering how slow growth was for them.

Re: Video: New Switch Hardware Won't Stop Bad Ports

Paraka

@ChickenJoe - Yeah, bought Miles Morales, physical... Only to find myself not wanting to finish it. Though, admittedly, the required download for physical media was also a pretty heinous reason.

It lacks something. Everything feels like "look at this" instead of "play there." And I noticed this long ago, but it just feels far more prevalent now. And I see it in even Nintendo many times as well.

Re: Video: New Switch Hardware Won't Stop Bad Ports

@ketrac - Adventure games are an acquired taste in my eyes. Since I didn't grow up with the original, I haven't been too excited for the new one. The art may be jarring for some, though. Hope it finds its style. Most my indies I have bought recently are released in the previous year. As mentioned, I just got done with Pumpkin Jack for the second time. Good stuff.

Re: Video: New Switch Hardware Won't Stop Bad Ports

Paraka

@PessitheMystic - I am nearing the 1400 mark for Switch physical games. But outside the novel collecting I am doing, indies don't require all that power and have less of a hard time being optimized.

Enjoyed Pumpkin Jack once more for Halloween as an example.

Re: Video: New Switch Hardware Won't Stop Bad Ports

Paraka

@ketrac - That's just another thing; I own a PC aptly named "Megatron" from friends. Thing is a powerhouse, so even if I wanted to want PS5 games, they're functionally optimal on my PC.

That's only assuming I want those powerful "showcases" that are being called games nowadays. I just have not found myself to be excited for any of it.

I was more excited, and elated, to see Episode 1 Racer being ported than I have DMC5, RE8, or FF7.

Hell, I saw an indie on Twitter feed, about a yokai styled Pokémon Snap. That's Game is far from anything Complete, but I am more excited seeing small updates on that than most of all AAA games.

Re: Video: New Switch Hardware Won't Stop Bad Ports

Paraka

Going to be honest; I cannot even be asked to play my PS5. Have a couple games, though nice looking, they're just not... Fun?

I dunno, I have been far more excites by indies and ports of old games than I have of any new hyped-up benchmark hallway action simulator that has been announced for the passed 5 years.

AAA games are just... not being AAA outside presentation.

Re: Liam Hemsworth To Replace Henry Cavill In Witcher's Netflix Series

Paraka

@Eagly - Not entirely about Superman. Cavill is a huge fan of the Witcher books and even opted to stay for a 7 season series if they continued to stay true to the books. Even one of the main writers for Season 2 was saying many of the staff actually had a disdain for the materials and were just on the project because they wanted the notoriety and wanted to change many things.

Cavill tapped out of his fight. Which tells me Season 4 is going to be more different than just the lead.

Re: Famous Seattle Retro Gaming Store Has Been Hit By Armed Robbery

Paraka

@JayJ - You made some points, but forgot to mention, Seattle is one of the cities that reduced the police funding and has not since reinvested into the city in any shape or form.

I lived in one of the other cities, did auditing for retail stores in some bad places. There was a consistent stabbing attempt up until that point. Even the local McDonald's closed shop after a robbery happened hours after they opened from a previous robbery.

Re: Random: Scrapped Customisation Options For Splatoon 3 Have Been Discovered

Paraka

Nintendo is officially frecklephobic, those with freckles are now unable to play the game to its fullest with no direct representation.

-1/10 game, will fire somebody protest!

EDIT: Apparently hitting enter on my phone published the post before I'm done randomly.

Anyway, I can see why they opted not for the options. You're likely to be the only person who'd ever see them and you won't 80% of the time. And you're going to be hard pressed to notice them when you have such vibrant colors surrounding it.

Re: Feature: How Do Game Developers And Artists Feel About The Rise Of AI Art?

Paraka

AI art is honestly laughable, cause eventually they'll take from the same image pool sampling. Can they generate some interesting stuff? Sure. But over time, their end goal is efficiency in image sampling, and over time they'll all start producing the same level of designs from each other. Cause it has to create from what exists.

A person has innate talent to be inspired from something, and the mind's eye will create something that can be so abstract from the influence you wouldn't even fathom a guess.

Go ahead and test this; Find an indie, not all too popular, and use AI to recreate it from your descriptions.

As for the gatekeepers comments; You're not doing yourself a favor. Most of that stance comes from a place you have felt jilted from. You're essentially saying that artists, musicians and writers are all ultimately replaceable using AI, and their work was wasted. And you're cheering that work on. Cause eventually, AI can simulate your work as well.

You're not the one making the art, the AI is. You don't become the artist cause you made an image from the AI. The AI is. Being cool with that leverages companies to not invest in "AI artists," just AI art.
