Re: Capcom Unleashes Debut Trailer and Details on Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch

NicolausCamp

@Dakt "Western gamers have shown time and time again with Monster Hunter they don't want it on portable."

Except Capcom said the following regarding Generations' sales in the west:
"Monster Hunter Generations, known as Monster Hunter X (Cross) in Japan and Asia (for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems), achieved solid sales overseas thanks to Capcom's established brand capabilities."

So I don't really know what you're on about.

Re: Cemu Wii U Emulator Version 1.7.5 Shows Daunting Progress With Zelda: Breath of the Wild

NicolausCamp

I can understand emulating old systems for archiving purposes, and while true that the Wii U is no longer being made, I still don't see a good excuse to keep making this.
On the other hand, if Nintendo plans to shut them down, then I think they better have a really good Virtual Console substitute with cross-buy and lowered prices to justify it.
Sony and Microsoft are so far ahead of Nintendo in this area that it's not even funny, and the whole online part, with playing and purchasing, is THE area where Nintendo has to step up and shake things up considerably.
I hope they do, because then they'll get a lot of my money.

Re: Reggie Explains the Reasoning Behind the New 2DS XL

NicolausCamp

As others have mentioned, they could have just cut the price on the New 3DS XL.
I'm getting one either way, a Japanese one, as I have a bunch of Japanese games and my regular 3DS that I'm using for that just isn't cutting it.
This just seems more in line with Nintendo distancing themselves from 3D. A lot of titles lately haven't used the feature at all or very little. I mean, the Pokémon games didn't have it for more than a single mini-game-ish mode in the last version, and that sold a gajillion copies anyway.
If this is more cost-efficient than cutting the price on the New 3DS XL, then I understand their reasoning. People just don't care about 3D any longer, to my dismay.

Re: Rumour: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga DX Partnering Up for 3DS eShop

NicolausCamp

@Vee_Flames There's nothing wrong with BIS as it is though, and it is fully playable on every 3DS out there already. The only title in the sub-series that can't be played on the handheld today is Superstar Saga, so it makes sense to remake that one. Soon we might have all five of the games on one single platform, and that is awesome!

Re: Dragon Quest "Bubble Slime" New Nintendo 2DS XL Revealed for Japan

NicolausCamp

@Nintendian We don't know how it will run on the old model, but we at least do know that it won't be a New-exclusive, as the cover art is the regular design, not the one used for Xenoblade Chronicles 3D.
Personally, I would love for it to be New-exclusive, as they could take even more advantage of the hardware, but it isn't happening.

Re: Nintendo States That Support for the 3DS Family of Systems Remains Strong

NicolausCamp

I don't get the criticism. The 3DS is thriving still, and this can only help to boost sales even further. It's also nice to give choice to those with limited income.
Some people just can't afford a Switch with a bunch of accessories, and for those people, this machine seems ideal.
I think these two systems (3DS and Switch) can co-exist this and next year before finally moving on, and man has the 3DS had a great run so far after such a weak start.

Re: Dragon Quest "Bubble Slime" New Nintendo 2DS XL Revealed for Japan

NicolausCamp

@Nintendian No way. DQ is way too big a franchise and the install base for the regular 3DS is huge. It may run a bit worse on the old model, but it will run. Besides, Square Enix has mentioned nothing about the game taking advantage of the New systems, and being only 3 months from release, it would be a douche move to suddenly go "Oh, by the way, this is New-exclusive!"

Re: Dragon Quest "Bubble Slime" New Nintendo 2DS XL Revealed for Japan

NicolausCamp

I am so getting this! I have the standard 3DS released in Japan to coincide with the first Dragon Quest Monsters 3D remake, and while I love the design, the system itself feels lacking when compared to the New line. I considered getting a N3DS, but thought one would be released with a DQ9 theme, and while it's one dimension less than I wanted, I'm still going to get this as it looks incredible! And the screen size being the same as the XL really was priority number 1 anyway.

Re: Talking Point: As Nintendo Switch Looks to Rapidly Overtake Wii U Sales, 3DS Lives On

NicolausCamp

It seems like the writer is only considering the western markets, but keep in mind that the Japanese have a fair share of promising JRPGs coming their way which will make a mark on the sales charts, with Dragon Quest XI in the lead. Pretty sure Japan will help significantly in reaching those projected 40 million sold games with everything coming out from Nintendo, Square Enix and Atlus.

Re: Feature: What We Expect From the Nintendo Direct - 12th April

NicolausCamp

Would love to see some Dragon Quest announcements. Japan has gotten a ton of 3DS exclusive DQ games. They'll probably stay there and it'll be just wishful thinking on my part, but it would be awesome if Nintendo would announce a "30th anniversary summer of Dragon Quest" event and give us one game per month.
In Japan they have:
Dragon Quest Monsters 3D (remake of GB game)
Dragon Quest Monsters 2 (remake of GBC games)
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 Professional
The third "Rocket Slime" game
Theatrhythm Dragon Quest
and the upcoming Dragon Quest XI
Would be awesome if we at least got some of them over here!

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Pits Nintendo Switch vs. PS4 in Dragon Quest Heroes II Comparison

NicolausCamp

I have the Japanese retail version and I've played around with it for quite a bit now.
Yes, there are slowdowns, but they're nowhere near as critical to gameplay as DF make it out to be. After a while, you actually stop thinking about them and just enjoy the game.
Sure, I'd like to have a more stable FPS count. If they could have locked it at 30 I would have been overjoyed, but this is without a doubt still a very good and very playable port.
