I'm gonna guess we're getting an 8GB cartridge instead of a 16GB one, with a required download for around 2GB, because Activision. They wouldn't even put the Spyro Collection on a 16GB cart even though it would have fit. Effin' cheapskates.
They really should have added the WonderSwan version of the first one, and the DS vversions of the second and third game to this collection as well. This just reeks of "minimal effort" that is becoming increasingly common with Square Enix reissues.
@Real_Obsi I wouldn't be so sure. The RE engine has proven very capable and scalable. Also, the P5S demo in Japan kept a solid 30 FPS, so if one is fine with that, this should work well enough.
"Disney has just announced it is ceasing production of 4K discs." This is fundamentally untrue. They will still be releasing select catalogue titles in 4K, and all upcoming releases are still slated to hit the format. You're making it sound a lot worse than it is.
@Heavyarms55 Ehhhh... these feel A LOT better than playing with Joy-cons. Shame they don't include NFC, gyro or rumble, otherwise they would have been my favourite way to play Switch in handheld mode.
This sounds a whole lot like whatabout-ism. Trying to defend a poor year by pointing out that there have been worse years... Of course there has! Doesn't take away from the fact that 2020 really has been a bad year for Nintendo first party fans... at least those of us who don't like Animal Crossing.
One would think that with the success of Animal Crossing, EA would capitalize and release The Sims for the console... but yeah, I guess that's not happening then.
@Toph6661 I'd rather take EA than Activision Blizzard or Take 2 any day of the week, but yeah, can't say that I'm thrilled for any of the three to get their hands on them...
I don't trust Nintendo even a tenth as much as Microsoft or Sony with keeping their digital stores alive in the future. Nintendo are the only reason why I haven't gone 100% digital yet.
@Wavey84 Exactly. The only games I still buy physically are Nintendo's first-party offerings, as Nintendo have proven time and time again that they're really bad at keeping their legacy titles available for purchase. They close down the eShops and because of their unique system controllers etc, backwards compatibility doesn't stretch further than say a generation back tops. Those are games that risk getting lost, if you're not ready to pony up the cash for second hand or go the emulation route.
I'm done with limited physical releases of games that are so much cheaper digitally. The fact that they're usually available on every current system and computers as well makes the preservation aspect a moot point. I'd be much more excited if Inticreates announced a third game in the series instead.
If I didn't already own Panel de Pon on cart and Wild Guns Reloaded on Switch, I'd be all over this update. As it stands, it's really underwhelming for me.
Seems Nintendo isn't too keen on preserving the legacy of Paper Mario. The only game that's seen any kind of rerelease in this series is the original on Virtual Console for Wii U. Wonder if this trend will continue. It seemed like a golden opportunity to rerelease at least Color Splash here, but it seems like that isn't happening any time soon.
Won't be long before they shut down the rest as well now. THIS is why I try to avoid buying games digitally on Nintendo platforms. They are so way behind the curve on this.
I hope it's a NEW IP. I love PlatinumGames as much as the next person, but now that they're going into self-publishing, I want to see them stretch their creative muscle even more than before!
"While Bayonetta 3 might not have a release date just yet, it's expected to arrive at some point in 2020." Ummm... where did you get this info? I haven't seen or heard anything to back that up.
I'm just gonna go ahead and NOT play this game until I've gotten a chance to play P5. If Atlus ports Royal to the Switch, they'll get my money. This one? Not until I've played the prequel...
Since I changed my working place to a place I don't need to commute to with bus, but can walk to, I've started valuing performance more than portability, as I don't use the Switch in portable mode that often any longer. Certain types of games, such as RPGs with grinding etc I prefer the Switch for, but the usual AAA type games are going to my Xbox One most of the time nowadays. Still love the Switch though, and for games that offer similar performance, such as a lot of indies, I usually go with the Switch version.
I have the physical Switch version of 1-3 incoming, but I might just play the fan-translated SNES port that I own as a repro cart, as that still seems to be the best way to enjoy the game.
@Trajan It is, but with Fire Emblem Heroes and Three Houses raking in cash and selling well, Im sure a whole lot of people who just discovered the Fire Emblem series will give this a chance now, even though it has almost nothing to do with either FE or SMT in the grand scheme of things.
@BadEndBrit I don't view this so much as censorship as replacing content. Do I think it's silly that they covered a monster's cleavage with smoke, that they changed revealing costumes to more clothed ones etc? Yes, I do, but these are compromises that I am perfectly fine with that don't affect my enjoyment of the game and I would think most people will agree. If something I would react on negatively would be cut from a game, well, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
This is an extremely vocal minority voicing their opinions. Most people who buy this won't even be aware of there being an issue at all, and most of those who do won't care. I know I'll be in the latter camp. The game is just too good to skip out on for something as trivial as this.
@SeantheDon29 You won't see Spider-Man on the Switch, at least the Sony one. Developed by Insomniac, which is now owned by Sony, and they won't want to part with that IP.
@Jayofmaya didn't say it would be a bad port, just that, like you said, it would be harder and require more optimization than if it was a last-gen game.
@Mr_Muscle Sure, but Dark Souls was technically a last gen game (and the Switch port seems largely based on the 360/PS3 build) whereas NieR Automata is a current-gen game, and would therefore probably be a bigger challenge to port and optimize.
I'd be okay with this running at 30FPS, with some downgraded assets and resolution, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. I already have it on both PC and XB1 so I'm covered anyway, but if a Switch version gets more people to try it out, then that would only be a good thing!
@Alucard83 Well, they DID port the 3DS version to mobile, but like @KyleHyde mentioned above, the 3DS version used dual screens. It would be a simple enough workaround, but yeah, this is just Square Enix being Square Enix again...
No analogue controls.
No enhanced menus (like FFX HD).
No A.I.-upscaled backgrounds.
No graphical enhancements whatsoever apart from the character models.
15 FPS menus in battle.
No new, sorely needed translation.
This is literally just a modded version of the old PC port.
No, Square Enix, you are NOT getting my money for this one, even though it's my favourite game in the franchise.
Personally I'd love to see a Final Fantasy 7, 8 & 9 collection. Since the games are $20 a piece, they could charge full price for a 16GB cart with all three games on.
Too bad the prices for a physical cart is way too high for me to muster, but at least I got it on Virtual Console for my Japanese N2DSXL. Definitely a better version than the GB original.
@RupeeClock Sorry to break your bubble, but on the Switch cart, the DLC for Guacamelee! 2 is not included. Instead a voucher to download these are included. On PS4, everything is included on the disc though. Real pity they weren't able to solve this, as others have distributed Switch games with DLC on cart without any issue. Oh well, at least the base games are on the cart in their entirety, which is the most important part.
@sword_9mm Doom 3 was always a very forward-compatible game. This version is basically running the PC version at the highest setting possible, which would always be taxing for the Switch hardware. From what I can see, Panic Button did quite a great job without compromising too much.
Played through it on Switch last Summer and had a blast, but boy does that PC version look great! Didn't expect 60FPS to make that much of a difference, but I sure was wrong. If you haven't already played it and don't care much for portability, this seems to be the way to go!
Will Dead Cells get any more DLC, or was Rise of the Giant the final piece? If it's getting more down the line, then I don't really see the point in getting this as it will be redundant as well.
@B-Locks Guacameele STCE is 646MB and Guacamelee 2 Complete (including DLC) is 2.1GB. Combined that is less than 3GB, fitting nicely on a 4GB cart. Space is NOT the issue here.
