I sat through the entire presentation, my jaw on the floor, and just kept thinking "This is NEVER coming to the Switch!" over and over again in my head. It looks a lot more advanced than both Doom 2016 and Wolfenstein 2. When I saw the announcement a few minutes later my eyes almost popped out of their sockets. This is just crazy! I'll probably pick it up on both Switch and on the Xbox One as well.
"Without the drum, you’ll just have to stick with the Joy-Con controls on the Switch. At the very least, this is arguably a better option than using a more traditional gamepad."
No it's not, the motion controls are BAD. Like, REALLY bad! Think Samba de Amigo on Wii bad. Drum peripheral or touch control is the only way to go here.
@dok5555555 It does have the regular shoulder buttons, but not the ones on the inside that you use for single joy-con play when detached, as you can't use the joy-con wirelessly.
Darius II (Arcade) and Sagaia (Arcade) are the same game. G-Darius is omitted. So basically 5600 yen for three arcade ports... Cash grab if I ever saw one.
If the game hadn't already been shipped, I would have waited until patch 1.0.4 was released. But seriously though, this should have been addressed BEFORE the game was released. I know most people could have waited for another month. And no Japanese voice track at release? So NIS just blatantly lied then... They effed this up royally...
This could go two ways... 1. Capcom realizes that making people angry with this digital only BS is going to hurt them in the long run. 2. Capcom thinking that "Hmmm, they're not buying our games. Guess we shouldn't support the platform any longer."
Played it on the Wii U, sold it when this was announced, getting it again even though it's more expensive... Yeah, Nintendo got me alright... and I couldn't care less! Such an amazing game!
@msvt There have been a bunch of Japan-exclusive games that sadly we'll probably never see. I'm still holding out hope for Yo-kai Watch 3 and think that miht possibly find its way here, but then we also have games such as
-The Great Ace Attorney 1 & 2
-EX Troopers (anime-inspired Lost Planet spinoff)
-Monster Hunter XX
-Gaist Crusher God (fun actioneer by Capcom/Treasure)
-A bunch of Dragon Quest games.
-3D version of Final Fantasy 1
-Yo-kai Sangokushi
-Three Taiko no Tatsujin games
etc etc.
I can play these on my Japanese model, but it's really not fair that Western audiences won't be able to play these at all without either a Japanese console and/or extensive Japanese language skills.
Hey, Nintendo! While you're at it, how about localizing these as well... I mean, since Square Enix doesn't seem to care at all about Nintendo in the West...
@gortsi
And what has changed since then with the series?
EDIT: The point is that Dragon Quest has never been a huge seller outside of Japan, and that's just facts. I wish it wasn't so as I'm a big fan of the series and want it to be as successful as possible, but it just isn't happening outside of Japan.
A shame the 3DS version won't make the cut. Having played through it on my Japanese 3DS I can attest to it being an absolute joy and one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. I guess there's still a chance that Nintendo takes over and distributes the game as they usually do with Dragon Quest in the west, but I'm keeping my expectations in check. It really does seem like Square Enix hates Nintendo outside of Japan...
The last thing I want is for the Switch to turn into the current state of Steam, so I'm glad they're curating and are setting up restrictions. There have been more than a few questionable releases though, unfortunately.
Who wants to bet Europe gets digital only? If Japan gets a physical release, I might get that one. I mean, c'mon, Rockman sounds way cooler than Mega Man!
I hope we don't get this until sometime in the fall or at least late summer, as we already have Kirby for March and DKCTF for May. Releasing 3 first party 2D platformers in such a short amount of time will lead to fatigue and people choosing one over the other instead of picking them all up. They really need to space these out a bit more...
I loved Ever Oasis from beginning to end. It's dull of charm and the art direction is lovely! The gameplay loop is also addicting. Apart from Dragon Quest XI, this was my favourite 3DS game of the year!
Played through it on Xbox One and loved it, then picked it up on Switch as well and loving it even more, despite the technical compromises. Never thought I'd say that, but here we are.
@Nincompoop Yet Yooka-Laylee seems to run great on the hardware, because the devs actually took the time to make sure the game was optimized. I really hate this "release it broken, patch it later" mentality that a lot of publishers seem to have. It really will hurt gaming in the long run.
And at the same time, the Neo Geo games on the Switch offer a ton of choices regarding what version to play... but I guess that's just too much for Capcom and Digital Eclipse to bother doing...
@Zyph Considering it's both a new IP and a fighting game, I'd say that those numbers for Arms are mighty impressive indeed. A fighting game breaking the million mark today is a rare sight indeed.
@Oat Pretty sure Arc would love to release it on the Switch. It's Bandai Namco that's holding them back. As soon as they get the go ahead from them I'm sure they'll start the porting process immediately.
Was so ecstatic when I heard this news that I put BlazBlue Continuum Shift II back in the 3DS last night and played a few matches just to scratch that "BB on a portable" itch temporarily. Will be picking this up on day one!
Played through this on Steam earlier this year and came away very impressed. Will pick it up on Switch eventually, but right now there's just so much else to play!
This is my preferred way to play 2D games such as Gunvolt, Sonic Mania and Blaster Master. Feels great and the D-pad is fantastic. I almost don't play Pokkén in handheld at all as the pad really feels like the only way to play that game.
@Steelhead It would also be the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to get into the MMO scene. They don't really have a high-profile MMORPG for the Switch which this would cover nicely, and Dragon Quest is traditionally connected to Nintendo. I know I'd buy it!
I almost can't keep up with the 3DS, so that's my most played console right now, and the Switch is more or less collecting dust, despite me having a lot of games for it. I just can't bring myself to play on the Switch when there's so much great content on the 3DS. Well, at least I'll have a whopping backlog on the Switch once I do get around to it.
If this spin-off ever does release over here, it will be called Yo-kai Watch Blasters, not Busters, as that was the name of the sub game in Yo-kai Watch 2, and Level-5 has gone on record saying that they'll keep that title going forward if they ever were to release it in the west. I do hope it gets over here. At least we should probably expect Yo-kai Watch 3 sometime next year, I'd guess. Really looking forward to Psychic Specters in the meantime.
@TheWhiteFalcon Or you could, you know, play it by yourself. I did, and I had a lot of fun with it! The game is really great, it's just a case of the right game at the wrong time, and I think that if it had been announced and released sandwiched in between the two new announced Metroid games, people would give it the benefit of the doubt instead of complaining that it isn't the game they wanted.
What I'd REALLY like to see is a collection of the original games AND the 3D remakes of Seiken Densetsu 1 & 2 (and maybe 3 while they're at it!) on the same cart! That really would be a sort of ultimate collection for the original trio of games. I have the Japanese SD Collection, and I love playing them, but despite stellar emulation and nice menus, it's a really barebones package and I'd love to have a bit more content on that cart.
@roadrunner343 But it wasn't made for anything else in mind. Sure, you CAN use it for other games, but it's main draw is that it's basically a replica of the arcade controller for Pokkén. The fact that you can use it for other games is just a cherry on top. Don't like the ZR/ZL placement? just get another controller that better suits your taste.
@JaxonH "We also have an English translated version of MHXX on 3DS". We do? I know XX is just an expanded version of Generations, but it's not really the same thing, and the Japanese 3DS games don't have English text to my knowledge.

Re: Hori Taiko Drum Controller Won’t Be Released In The West, But Here's Where You Can Get One
@GauBan Well, I personally don't need to as I imported both the game and the drum controller.

Got mine today. Got it mostly for the soundtrack, but the reversible cover sure is the most gorgeous of the bunch as well!

@Dreamcaster-X Since you've gotten it, can you check if the game has a setting for choosing Japanese or English voices? Thanks!

@Prof_Yoshtonics It would NOT sell "millions" on 3DS in the West. When was the last time a Dragon Quest game did that? I'll tell you when. NEVER.

@Nincompoop Agreed, but that really isn't a good excuse to release a shoddy port. That will just make the devs look bad in the eyes of consumers.
