With the Switch frequently dominating headlines, it can be easy to forget that Nintendo is still fully backing the 3DS with new software. One upcoming game which seems to be getting a little less attention than it maybe should be is that of Ever Oasis, a new Zelda-like RPG from Grezzo. We got a chance to try it out at a press event and came away quite impressed, saying that it could be the “next big game” for the 3DS.
In spite of the diminished attention the game has been receiving, it seems that Nintendo hasn’t completely given up on raising awareness around the game. Promotional materials for the game have begun to surface online, and a poster just popped up on Reddit which reveals that a demo is coming for the game. Perhaps it’ll be one of those “live after this presentation” announcements at Nintendo big E3 spotlight.
What do you think? Will you be picking up Ever Oasis? Why do you think Nintendo hasn’t been pushing this one very hard? Drop us a comment in the section below.

I'll try the demo but I can't stand how many RPGs use that super deformed art style. What happend to ones that look like FF8 or Legend of Dragoon back in the golden years?
A demo sure would help. I am indeed on the fence about this one.
It wouldn't be announced during the Spotlight since they've said that'll be Switch only.
Perhaps during the Treehouse though?
Definitely goin to try this!
Can't wait to try it, though I'll agree with @invictus4000
I'd at least like a tougher anime style if any for some of these games. This and Monster Hunter Stories may be my last 3DS purchases.
Of course I'll be picking this up, it looks fantastic. It has great character design, an interesting desert setting and by the look of it, excellent action/RPG dungeon design. What's not to like.
@Nomad
The character design is technically good, I just miss how characters looked in older RPGs. However. I was a child of the SNES era. Lol
My little Target (as opposed to the big one I go to) had several 2DS and New 3DS XL in stock on Friday. I'm still tempted but the price is still a factor. Too bad New 2DS XL jumped up to $149 from the 2DS $79 or maybe the other models would get a price cut. But I'm tempted. For this and MH Stories.
I think if we could all log into it like on the Switch and Wii U my kids and I might all chip in to get one, their two launch 3DS are showing their age. Though they've never turned on the 3D in all these years so they'd probably opt for the cheaper New 2DS XL.
I'm really excited for this one! This is exactly the type of game that I can wind up sinking 100+ hours into playing. I'm not a fan of fighting games so I will be skipping Splatoon 2 and ARMS. As a result this is the next big title I will be playing on any system.
@VR32F1END I just like that there are some non-human characters for a change. I'm definitely getting a Secret of Mana vibe from this.
@invictus4000
They looks so cute in Chibi form.
There are some cute Chibi form in games like Harvest Moon Magical Melody, My Sims, Portal Knights, Golden Sun Dark Dawn NDS, Fantasy Life, etc.
Remember, some of Girls audiences prefer cute Chibi looking characters.
I originally wanted this then the Switch came out and till recently all but abandoned my 3ds. Been playing a bit of Generations as of late and at the very least will dl the demo and give it a shot. I know next to nothing about this over the last 6 months or so and kinda prefer it that way. Going in hoping to come out impressed.
Very tempted with this game. I may just take the plunge. The demo for Bravely Default sent me over the edge to buy that game, I wonder if the demo for this will, too.
I've already pre-ordered the game, but I'm so eager to check it out that I'll definitely try out the demo as well. Love myself a new Nintendo IP!
'One upcoming game which seems to be getting a little less attention than it maybe should be is that of Ever Oasis, a new Zelda-like RPG from Grezzo.'
Maybe it's just me, but something seems weird about this sentence.
@invictus4000 You just named my 2 favourite rpgs from the playstation era (yeah, I'm one of the 3 guys on Earth that prefer FF8 over 7).
I also don't know why turn based rpgs never use a combat system like Legend of Dragoon, which made turn based combat far more enjoyable.
I'm not on the fence, after all it's already preordered, but I just don't feel like I know what the game is fundamentally about so I think a demo is a good choice.
@Anti-Matter He's not saying that there shouldn't be chibi style games, he's saying that now everyone seems to be using that style. Also, not only girls like chibi characters and not every girl prefers them.
Good decision from them. I'm on the fence about it. A demo will push me off it, either way.
Unfortunately I can see this ending up on one of those lists in years to come of 'great games no one played as they appeared too late in the consoles lifecycle.'
I'm surprised by how much I've abandoned my 3DS now I have my Switch. The 3DS has a lot more games, and features!
@JoeDiddley
Time to play 3DS again !
I still play my both Older & New 3DS XL until today.
Ever Oasis will be my purchase for Next shopping day.
Played the demo at a press event and it should be nice, relaxing game. Combat is simple but fun, sim elements have this Animal Crossing vibe (I heard they're similar to Fantasy Life mechanisms, but I never played it). Would buy.
Good news. Will try it out.
Doesn't this game have a whole mechanic about building your city? Would liken it more to Fantasy Life than Zelda.
3DS and vita games of previous years have burned me out on the chibi artstyle, done with it for good. Bring on the more challenging games where characters have necks and regular-sized heads
Btw, get rid of those video ads if you can NLife, it's bogging down your pages and making it a pain to comment.
So torn on this. I'd like to get this, but I find myself less and less interested in gaming on 3ds. Lately all I've been doing on there is virtual console stuff I never got around to finishing and once VC launches on switch I may not do that anymore. It's getting harder and harder to look at those little low resolution screens.
Already pre-ordered from Amazon.
I will get the demo. The thing is it's hard for me to pick up my 2ds since I have my Switch, which is better in every way. If I like it and think I'll play it, I'll buy it but honestly if I get it I don't think I'll play it.
I'm getting it because I've wanted it since day one. Don't do much gaming outside of my 3DS and iPad. If I buy a Switch it will still be mainly my kids playing it anyways.
@roy130390 You said it! I would take FF8 over 7 any day. Although 9 is my favorite. And yeah, LoD was soooo good and I loved the battle system. I just want the classic RPG feel back, especially with prerendered backgrounds!
@Anti-Matter Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the chibi art style here and there, but I think it's overused. Can't there at least be both??
@invictus4000
Both Chibi and Normal ?
Hm...
Last time we got Golden Sun Dark Dawn NDS. The characters displayed on Chibi for a whole story & world map, but Normal size on Battle Only. Kinda like FF VII PS1.
FF III & FF IV NDS All characters in Chibi during gameplay, but Normal size for Opening FMV of FF III NDS & FF IV NDS + Boss Battle Only (Boss displayed in Chibi during conversations / World Map).
Oh, World of Final Fantasy have both Normal and Super Chibi form too.
@invictus4000 I personally don't mind the art style but I absolutely see where you're coming from. It would be nice for games to use more realistic proportions for their characters again
@rjejr I think you might want to consider upgrading soon. My new 3ds recently got accidentally dunked in a sink of sanitizing solution along with a bunch of my games (my boss accidentally did it). I've sent it in for repairs and I'm waiting to get it back. I mention all of that because when I was on hold for 3ds repairs, the automated system mentioned that they no longer carry parts for repairs for launch model 3ds systems so you're a bit SOL if something were to happen. Just a word of advice
Cool, I don't know if I can be sold on it so close to RPG Maker but I'll try the demo.
I'm also still kind of surprised this doesn't have multiplayer.
Yes! Another Chibi RPG! I eat up Chibi RPG as if they were chips!
I've been on the fence about this one, so trying out a demo would be perfect.
@Oat Thanks, but there's no way I'm paying the launch day price - either 5 years ago when 3DS XL launched at $199 or 2 years ago when New 3DS XL launched at $199 - after all this time. I got a PS4 Slim w/ Uncharted 4 for Christmas for $218 and an Xbox One 1TB for $175 w/ 3 games, both new at Target. I'm not paying more for any type of 3DS than an Xbox One.
@Captain_Gonru "I've also seen more units in stores lately. About time, too."
Well it seems a little late to me, but that's Nintendo and their stock management - not enough Switch, not enough NES Classic Mini so let's cancel it, too many Animal Crossing amiibo, not enough Zelda BotW amiibo even though it's a likely GOTY candidate and the expansion pass parts will be releasing all year long; so lets put out more 3DS now ahead of the $149 New 2DS XL releasing July 28th so everybody buys up the new stock as graduation gifts and nobody cares about the New 2DS XL.
That's not just me being negative, the way they handle stock just makes no sense. And timing on New 2DS XL is kind of weird as well, (Wii Mini timing all over again) and the $149 price when the current 2DS is $79, that's double the price. That's not usually the way these things work. When the New 3DS models launched, even w/ the new hardware, they were the same price as the old 3DS and 3DS XL. Can you imagine if New 3DS was $299 and New 3DS XL was $349? That's what they did w/ the New 2DS, even though the tech is now 2 years old, and no "super-stable" 3D effect.
@rjejr I'm with you on Nintendo's idiotic pricing and stock issues. With almost any other product you would not expect to pay nearly full launch price 2-3+ years later but Nintendo thinks they are the magical exception to the rule. What has me worried is that I don't know if all the games that got soaked along with my 3ds will work. I have to wait until I get my system back to test it out. If I do have to replace my games, I'll be stuck having to replace games like FE Awakening, A link between worlds, and Star Fox 64 3D all of which go for more than full msrp for a physical cart and all of which are still $40 on the eshop. It's especially stupid for star fox since that came out back in 2011 but still costs as much as a game coming out in 2017
The game is coming out very soon after E3 so I hope the demo goes live with enough time to pre-order and take advantage of any E3 deals that online retailers usually have.
I'm playing this and miitopia and then I'll be done with 3ds. Kinda sad to think about.
@Captain_Gonru amiibo are fun aren't they?
You aren't on twitter are you? I took this photo in Target on Friday and posted it w/ this caption:
"Can anybody remember the last time an amiibo "Supercharged" their game play?"
I'd hardly call what the Zelda BotW amiibo do "supercharging".
Anyway, I watched that ARMS ND waiting for the amiibo that never came so I get that. But, well they aren't quite dead yet are they? 3 new Link are coming (that makes 10 Link even though amiibo means we should only need 1 Link for every amibo-abled game) June 23rd, 6 SSB4 (2 of each) July 21.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/04/12/new-zelda-amiibo-announced-plus-cloud-corrin-and-bayonetta-amiibo-get-release-dates
Plus 3 new Splatoon 2 amiibo 7/21 (that's how they're labeled S2.)
Plus, perhaps the Monster Hunter Stories amiibo come west w/ the game. I certainly hope so as those are the best ones.
And Pikmin July 28th.
That doesn't seem over to me. Now, I'll argue their being useless in games is over, but that's been over for awhile now. And their being used in more than 1 game has hardly panned out at all unless you count skins in SMM.
But I think they're too popular to go away. Nintnedo will never flood the world w/ unknown AC amibo again, but there's still Pokemon to contend with.
And I do think more will be revealed at E3. B/c lets' face it, things have to be revealed at E3, they have nothing dated after Splaltoon 2. FE Warriors might be, but Mario isn't, XC2 isn't. And all fo those amiibo I just listed above, all out in just June and July. Meaning E3 can be full of amiibo for the holidays. And hey, might as well make a 3rd set of Mario and friends amiibo - after SSB and SM - for the NFC toys marketed as - buy once, play in many games. (yeah, I'm kinda stuck on that)
It's also possible they just couldn't make ARMS amiibo cheaply enough b/c they would need springy arms. ARMS is dead once Spaltoon 2 releases anyway, it doesn't matter. These matter.
@Captain_Gonru "in this same circle"
Which circle, the amiibo circle? Heck anything is better than the NX circle that took 2 years, and the last 6 or so months, summer of NX in particular, were excruciatingly painful.
I don't think amiibo are ever going away so I suppose this circle will continue ad infinitum. I have finally, after all these years, given up on the idea of an amiibo "game". Not a board game like AC;aF, but a game like Skylanders, or Pokemon Snap! or Pokepark 3. Had the Wii U been successful, say 50 mil, then Nintendo Land 2 w/ amiibo support would have happened I think, Nintendo doesn't do a lot of 1-offs. (I count Wii Sports Resort as Wii Sports 2, others may disagree.) Wii Music and AC:aF deserved their fate but Nintendo Land 2 had promise.
So we keep getting about a dozen or so new amiibo each year, but they become more and more collectible, less and less "supercharging". What do those 3 new Link amiibo even do? Anniversary Link amiibo I don't think even had a game.
But here's a thought, SSB4eluxe on Switch, perhaps it gets reskinned amiibo? Not all 44 or whatever it was, but maybe a dozen of the main ones.
Next summer the 3DS will be more interesting to talk about than amiibo. Heck even now amiibo aren't all that interesting to talk about, it's like talking about Kinect 2.0 on X1. I think that's technically still a thing, but probably used 99% of the time for Cortana playing movies. amiibo will live long after they have anything to do w/ games. They can sell them in the amusement park as souvenirs. Easy money.
@Captain_Gonru Oh, and since everyone seems to have left, my cable company never uploaded the last episodes of A&F so I haven't seen them yet. Probably watch them this weekend on the CW Xbox app. We watched the last ever episodes of Grimm this weekend. Then we can FINALLY start watching the NF Marvel shows.
Taking my son to see GotG Vol 2 tomorrow night, my supermarket gave me a $13 off movie ticket code. Too bad all my theaters are $13.95 (since when did theater prices start ending in .95?) but close enough. My wife and other kid and staying home to watch Dr. Strange on NF.
@Captain_Gonru I'm post #40 about the online. It's all good.
First half of GotG2 was kind of boring, was regretting going, but the 2nd half made up for it. And we got to see trailers for Thor 3, the one we've already seen, and SW8, which was boring, so I'm having "middle movie" fears. Also Wonder Woman which I kept thinking is a Star Trek movie where they go to the Amazon warrior planet.
Good news for those who wait, A&F are on Netflix, so no commercials.
@Captain_Gonru "Windows version"
Forgot all about you and your silly phone. Yeah, I'm guessing Nintnedo gives you a big middle finger.
Weekend, time to cook the pancakes.
