In the early hours of this morning we brought you the news that Atlus was localising Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology for the Nintendo 3DS, with an "early 2018" release on the cards.
The good tidings don't end there, however. We've now discovered that Atlus is also bringing Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux to the west as well. Etrian Odyssey V is expected to arrive later this year, while SMT: Strange Journey Redux will come in early 2018.
2017 is shaping up to be quite a year for the 3DS, but the news that it will be getting more big titles in 2018 is sure to please long-time fans of the console. While the Switch is now Nintendo's main focus, the 3DS continues to be a valuable platform - as is evidenced by the upcoming launch of the New Nintendo 2DS XL.

I expect EO sale sometime soon! Holding my money 'till then!
Yup, yup. Really looking forward to both of these, I've been hungering for an all new EO game for a while now and Strange Journey was one of my favorite games period on the DS so I have no complaints about that one either. So happy I got my import 3DS, because otherwise I would be sweating bullets right about now.
Awesome. Never played Strange Journey, so that'll be fun. Super excited for Etrian Odyssey V. The soundtrack is fantastic, and I really like the first Untold Game. Can't wait.
3DS is still alive !
EO5 is among my most awaited releases ever. As a big fan who's completed every main entry, I can't wait for this.
Also pretty excited about the new Strange Journey. Absolutely underlooked game.
YES!!!!!!!!!
OMG! EO5! Finally! Oh man can not wait! Oh boy oh boy oh boy!!!!
God if this all would be switch titles .....
If it was 12 months ago, I would be all over EO5. I loved EO4 and I'm sure I'd love this one too but I'm not willing to break out my 3DS to play it.
Lesson learnt from 7th Dragon and SMTIVA, Day 1 buys for all 3.
Again Western means only NA apparently.
good news, because these are exactly the games i wanted.
So glad Strange Journey is also coming so soon. EO V is a must play when that comes out for me and no other game will interrupt me beating it!
@MERG Are you still around buddy?
Finally we're getting Etrian Odyssey V! However, I'm going to be so occupied with Switch games that I'm not sure I'll get around to picking it up right away. I wish it came out earlier!
FINALLY!!!! The news I've been waiting to hear all year! Looking forward to Fall. EO V, come to mama!
I'm still in the first EO's postgame, but EOV certainly goes on my prospective shoplist. Even more interested in Strange Journey - one of my favourite DS games even though I'm still stuck at the final boss on the Order route. For all I know, I might even start it anew on 3DS now, especially considering the apparently added story content.
Well, my 3DS isn't going to be able to retire any time soon. With Pokemon and now Etrian Odyssey, it's still got life left in it.
Do I need to play the other Etrian Odyssey games to play this one?
@Nintendo_Ninja In theory, maybe someday look into it because they're all great and you'll want more, but no they're not really connected at all.
Been waiting impatiently for this one, almost to the point where I don't want any other games. Now all we need is a Western release of EMD2 and my 3DS can rest in peace.
The 3DS will live forever!
Enjoyed PQ a good bit, really really enjoyed 7th dragon (except for Allie's Death March, ugh, "Hey guys we heard you thought this game was too easy, here's a sidequest you can only win by cheesing"), the only thing I hesitate about the EO games is that they're apparently [redacted]-crunchingly difficult. A nice middle ground would be good.
Finally!! EO is my favorite Atlus series and Radiant Historia don't fall behind in my liking, so I'm really happy. Keep it coming!!
Really hoping that we can count on Deep Silver to bring these out in Europe as well, because I NEED these games. So much so that if worse comes to worse, I'll just have to pick up an American 3DS. Hope I don't have to though...
@Yorumi Yeah, I guess if you're not on that Culdcept hype train then this seems incredibly far out!
@Nintendo_Ninja I started with EO 4, so you should be fine. For whatever information the games share, the story arcs are pretty separate from each other.
@ap0001 Then try out EOIV (there's a demo). Its easier than other EO and has easy mode on top of that.
I'm not playing PQ until I finish P4G, but I doubt it's much easier than EOIV on easy mode. And at worse, you can google for the best parties, strategies and bosses weaknesses.
@Spoony_Tech I'm here Tech and excited about this!
@RennanNT Finished P4G like a month ago and I just wanna play it again. Sooooo good!
Also, its not surprising with SMT, that is def a top seller right there. Just started Strange Journey recently but I might wait until this comes out. Day one for me. Now to beat Devil Summoner on 3ds.
Do you have a source for this?
Is this actually confirmed for worldwide, or another case of "US is The West"?
Knowing our luck, EO5 won't release in Europe until 2019...
Really excited for Etrian Odyssey 5. I'd imagine we'll be getting a meaty demo in the upcoming months like the other EOs.
OH BOY! Great news!
The trailer for EO5 says early 2018 too though. Definitely will be getting both games.
@Yorumi The trailer says "early 2018".
Now THIS is something to get hyped for!
@LinkSword Can't wait till EO5! I'm trying to stuff cash into my 3DS already.
Strange Journey coming....EARLY 2018?! THAT'S SO FAR AWAY!!!! I'll probably have a Switch by then and not looking back. C'mon boy-ohs! Push that release date forward!!!
Great, seems like the 3DS has some more use left.
Still, need to finish my backlog for it...
Yeaaaaaaaaah boy! Atlus, you are my light!
Day one for both of these.
Strange Journey is so good, I still have my copy~
@Pokefanmum82 @CrazedCavalier The date in the trailer is an error according to Gematsu.
hope so because I only have a 3DS right now. Can't get the Switch because it's not in stock anywhere for longer than 1 hour.
Wow.....I liked strange journey back forever ago on DS. It was sort of obscure so surprised they are even bother with and updated version for 3DS. I really like the Devil Survivor series and it seemed a lot like that so likely will pick this up when it hits.
Who can I bribe to get Strange Journey released sooner? I was just about to start in on it on my DS after recently picking up a preowned copy at Gamestop.
YAS! Now my only hope is that it will be PAL release as well and not NA only, because suck I'm living in Europe and I ain't getting american 3ds just to play NA version of 1-2games (nothing against NA though).
I wonder if we will get this sooner than DW9 on ps4 or later, because I can't play 2 awesome games at the same time with two hands only lol XD.
3DS is gonna live forever! o/ (3)
Okay, Europe isn't in the west. Gotcha.
And who said the 3DS was Dead? This is 3 releases right here for early 2018. I would say it's very much alive now if the Switch can deliver something im interested in.....
I predicted the 3DS would remain strong through 2018 even before Nintendo said they were still dedicated to it. Not quite ready to predict up into 2019 yet. Maybe after E3.
Day 1 purchase for me. Physical media all the way!
Probably not enough life left for them to make Etrian Odyssey Untold 3 so we can have the whole franchise in 3DS versions.
Hope that Atlus will also bring some rpg to the switch beside what bin announced
Can you ask them about Europe, please?
Interesting hearing the people complain that when they say west, they don't mean Europe. I always kind of thought of Europe as more Central. While it is west of Japan, I wouldn't refer to it as the west personally. In reference to the states, when I hear west, I think of California and the other states on the west coast.... Just interesting to see other peoples worldly perspectives... and yay for more Atlus releases!
Looking forward to EO5. Wish this game was also ported to the switch. I might actually turn on my 3ds just for this game. Good times..
I don't know that I need to replay Strange Journey, but it was definitely a great game. And EO5 goes instantly on my buy list.
The best news.
