Re: Pokkén Tournament Falls Short in the EVO 2017 Player's Choice Vote

NicolausCamp

With both Arms and Ultra Street Fighter 2 announced for release early in the system's release, I can understand not releasing or even announcing ports of Pokkén and SSB for the Switch yet. I bet they're coming, but I think they'll want to space them out a little so that not all the fighting games are released in a short span and end up competing against each other.

Re: Editorial: Cutting Edge Visual Splendour vs. 60 Frames-Per-Second - Between a Rock and a Hard Place

NicolausCamp

I'm going to go ahead and say that it depends on the game. For plattformers, fast-paced action and racing games etc. it makes sense to go 60FPS because of the added response time it gives you, but in slower, more methodical games, I don't mind having a more detailed exterior if it means halving the framerate. As long as gameplay isn't compromised, it really should be done on a case by case basis.

Re: Scizor Arrives in the Pokkén Tournament Arcade Very Soon

NicolausCamp

Pokkén is probably my favourite fighter from the last few years. The lack of characters hurts a bit for sure, but the gameplay is really addicting. I picked up the HORI controller as well, which is excellent, and also doubles as a great old school PC-controller.
Hoping the DLC characters will see the light of day in the home version as well. I'm thinking they'll release a bundle with everything once the 3 or 4 DLC characters have arrived at the arcade.

Re: The Next Shin'en Game Will Be on Nintendo Platforms

NicolausCamp

The logical thing to do would be an F-Zero, but Nintendo's never been one for "regular" logic, so it probably isn't.
I'll keep hoping that it is indeed F-Zero though. Can't wait for the physical release of FAST Racing NEO to keep my speed cravings in check until that happens.

Re: It's Now Possible To Play Virtual Boy Games On Your Android Phone

NicolausCamp

I've played some of Wario Land VB on emulator and I would gladly pay Nintendo for a VC version on 3DS. If there ever was a system made to emulate VB games, 3DS is it.
I can understand not doing it though, as putting resources into creating an emulator to only run a handful of games doesn't seem that profitable, but here's hoping!

Re: Nintendo Download: 12th May (Europe)

Contra 3 is an amazing game... but it's also developed by Konami, and Konami is the worst, so I won't be getting it and supporting that sad excuse for a company.

Re: Digital Foundry Breaks Down The Improved Performance of New 3DS

NicolausCamp

What I'd really like for Nintendo to do is to release patches for old games to take full advantage of the N3DS hardware. As has been mentioned, Luigi's Mansion 2 could really benefit from an improved framerate, and especially Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is in dire need of upping its framerate (but that's Konami, so that'll never happen), or retroactively adding in c-stick support for say Ocarina of Time.

Re: Pokémon Shuffle Celebrates 3.5 Million Downloads With Special Celebi Challenge

NicolausCamp

I haven't spent any real money so far and I never will, and the only thing I've missed was the Lucario stone. Got all the safari pokémon, got Celebi easily and just caught Mewtwo. I've only got five more expert pokémon left to catch (need to S-rank like 20 or so more stages to be able to reach Expert stage 21).
I'm getting coins from Meowth and grinding experience on Ampharos. A great time-waster I think.

Re: Buy Three Nintendo 64 and DS Virtual Console Games and Get the Fourth Free in Europe

NicolausCamp

@Bass_X0 Because now 60Hz is the standard here in Europe. DVD's are still in PAL format, but blu-ray's etc are 60Hz. Even the Wii U is a 60Hz console, and most of the VC releases are too, but a handful of them aren't, and I won't be supporting that practice. I'd much rather just put my money on what I think they're doing right. I would have bought this had it been the NTSC version, but since it isn't, I won't. I also won't be losing any sleep over it, I'm simply just stating my principles.

Re: New Fire Emblem on 3DS Takes Shape as Two Separate Releases in Japan

NicolausCamp

@Gerbwmu I haven't played them, no, I said that they"seem to differ from one another a lot more than the Pokémon games". I did say that this one didn't justify two releases, and that wasn't really thought through, sorry 'bout that.
From what I've gathered, the beginning of these two Fire Emblems are the exact same game before branching off. I don't know how big a part of the game we're talking about here. Either way, I hope that when it launches outside of Japan, we will get the complete package with all three stories on one cart. I don't really think Fire Emblem is established enough outside of Japan to really warrant this kind of experimentation, and it might end up alienating potential buyers, as has already been seen on most game forums around the net.

Re: Swedish Newspaper Questions The European Release Of Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson

NicolausCamp

Well, it is an objectifying game, and that's nothing new, but this is a bit on the extreme side, and I think that's why this one is brought up. Personally, I'm disgusted by this sort of game, but it's par for the course in Japan I guess, which just goes to show how behind the curve they truly are when discussing gender and objectification.
I'm personally trying to avoid supporting this kind of game as it doesn't give me anything personally, same thing with excessive violence. The expceptions would be games like Bayonetta and DMC. Brawlers that are so over the top, and are so self-aware of what they actually are and what they represent. Bayonetta herself and Dante, they aren't "sexy" per se, and their unnatural attributes just sort of fit in the completely bonkers world that they inhabit. They are in charge of themselves and they own their sexuality and use it to their advantage. Anyone who takes any aspect of those games' storytelling seriously is doing it wrong.
This however... this is just sad...

Re: Final Fantasy Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi Really Doesn't Like Direct Sequels

NicolausCamp

I'm a bit split. Sequels in their very nature very seldom feel justified for being outside of making a quick buck, but at the same time, they can represent an improvement based on the feedback from the first installment.
No one really likes Assassin's Creed, the first one, for example. It had a lot of promise and some great gameplay mechanics that just wasn't used to anywhere near their full potential. Enter Assassin's Creed 2 and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and we can see how Ubisoft really tried to perfect what they had. It's really hard to make something great on the first try, but then again, on the flipside, you're bound to in some ways get stuck in a rut and restrict yourself as a creator when dealing with a direct sequel.
Oh well, rant over.

Re: Review: Pokémon Shuffle (3DS eShop)

NicolausCamp

Playing and not paying, and I've put in a lot of hours so far. It's a great little game but the limits imposed by microtrasactions does hurt it a bit. Wish they could be a little bit more generous, like being able to save up 10 hearts instead of 5 and not having to wait 30 minutes for them to replenish, but rather 15-20.
