@Metazoxan As I said, I don't know why you bring Pokemon into this, because it is indeed a different situation, as you basically explained yourself. So lets not compare apples to oranges..
In the end there's just no denying Nintendo introduced timed events/awards to DLC for a game that had been out for only three months. You can defend that if you want, acting like companies should employ any scummy tactic to extract more money, but I held Nintendo in higher regard. Sure, they charge a lot for simple remakes and such, but at the end of the day you pay decent money for an amazing game and you can always (try to) wait for a sale.
And yes, FOMO is always a bad word, especially when it comes to digital content, that could easily be available at all times. It's a marketing ploy and apparently you're falling for it and for some reason are even defending it.
@Metazoxan I'm a major Nintendo fanboy, but I can't believe the amount of defending you're doing. How many games even have DLC out within the first three months of release? And when they do, most people complain about it, which to me makes sense, especially when it introduces events you can miss out on.
At least as far as we know now. It could obviously always be they repeat the events later on, but seeing as we can only judge how it is right now, they're just praying on FOMO, which to me is the main problem. And no idea why you're bring Pokemon into this, when that's a whole different situation.
Also it's pretty funny to me how you call people "kid", even though the way you type seems like a ranting 14 year old.
@Pillowpants Couldn't agree more. I've owned the game since launch, but it didn't really grab me, so I've barely made any progress yet. And so obviously haven't bought the DLC yet either.
I actually thought Nintendo was always better than this, but I guess that's now changing as well.
I don't even really care the event is only available when you buy the DLC, but adding FOMO events like this to DLC so shortly after release feels pretty scummy.
Never played this one, but the NA/Europe cover definitely looks best to me and in general I find it to be a very pretty and enticing cover. Makes me want to jump right into some AC!
@Yosher To be fair to Nintendo, Pokemon is basically a separate entity, though obviously Nintendo has a big share in the Pokemon Company. Also, I'd love it if Gamefreak released a new 2D topdown Pokemon. To me something like FireRed looked (and still looks) gorgeous.
@MarioLinkSamus I guess maybe because it doesn't have a separate Switch 2 Edition and will not have any additional content/increased visual quality between the two?
I can't deny the Mario part was fantastic. Was I hoping for a new 3D Mario? Yes, definitely, but what we got was still pretty great for a Mario fan. Overpriced as it may be, these are two of the best games ever made and if you already own/played them and don't want them on Switch? No one's forcing you to buy them. I however can't wait to go through these fantastic games again in a much higher resolution and frame rate!
I absolutely adore Stardew Valley and had a great time playing it by myself and doing a replay with my wife a few years later, but I honestly wish he would just leave the game alone and have complete focus on his new ventures. But at the end of the day, it's his choice and more power to him!
Even though the European cover is the prettiest to me, it gives off some creepy vibes which to me doesn't jive with the actual game. That's why I voted for the US cover, because the barn looks more fitting to me than the grassy hills and (farm?)house of the Japanese cover.
@RemyMartin Pretty sure nobody complained when Nintendo first announced Splatoon. Just because people don't like one game that you're apparently into, doesn't make everyone but you a naysayer and the reason games are bland..
Too many games that are either already out on other platforms or were previously announced, so having them also release on Switch 2 is not really a surprise, nor anything I really get excited about.
There's nothing to play besides old Switch games and MKW, so yes, I'm pretty underwhelmed at the moment. Pretty impossible to always launch with an absolute banger like BotW though, that game made me not need anything else from the Switch (1) for months.
The DKC trilogy are some of my favourite games of all time, so I should be hyped about a new Donkey Kong game, but especially this commercial really doesn't do it for me. I hope it's going to be a good game, but NoA's (I'm assuming it's them) marketing is really bad in this case..
Shame Nintendo didn't offer two options at launch, the current model and a more expensive OLED model. But I guess they prefer people to double dip and only producing one model at launch is probably more cost efficient.
There's an almost infinite amount of Nintendo box-art to choose from, yet we've gotten Dreamcast twice now, why exactly? And why does only Dreamcast apply, or are we suddenly going to get Playstation box-art as well at some point?
I don't really like the line between Diddy's eyes, but at least he still looks like himself! Not sure if I'll ever get used to DK looking like a brawny doofus.
@sixrings Some games were already 70 (and not just Nintendo games) and while I agree, they will most likely make more profit with this price, it still doesn't change the fact the price has stayed the same for a very, very long time. Nobody likes price increases, neither do I, obviously. It just doesn't seem as unreasonable to me as it does to other people.
I can't pay the same price, which I've been paying for decades, for the thing I like anymore? And the cost of them creating this thing I like has gone up? No way!
Is this even a lawsuit from Nintendo or the Pokemon Company? Because that wouldn't be the same thing, yet people put all the blame on Nintendo.
Also, I was following Palworld for ages before it came out, because I also enjoyed playing their previous game (Craftopia), even though like Palworld it got boring after like 30-40 hours, which wasn't bad value tbh.
Anyway, the point I was trying to make, is that it always looked like Pokemon with guns to me and that was pretty much their whole selling point, yet people don't see this game as plagiarism? I don't know the complete gist of the lawsuit, but that doesn't mean the creators of Palworld are some innocent victim.
Kinda weird I had no choice but to pick "Absolutely not - the line must be drawn here!", even though for me it's more like "Absolutely not - I have zero interest in it, but can see it'd have merit for others"
Very clickbaity title indeed. He just beat the final boss from a save state right before said final boss, which is not even close to the same as "speedrunner beats Zelda BotW at Switch 2 Experience"...
I wish we knew why Nintendo is so adverse to crediting the original creators of their games/music, but I'm going to guess this comes down to Nintendo's lawyers telling them not to, so the original creator has less of a footing for a lawsuit.
Japan for me this week, because I dislike the blurry background, making it feel like the characters have just been slapped on top of it. Both are pretty meh though ^^'
Honestly one of my favourite (PC) games of all time, so will definitely be picking this up. Real shame they won't release the full game on a cartridge..
I've always bought Mario Kart, but never really put a ton of hours into any of them. This is without a doubt the most exciting Mario Kart has ever looked to me and I can't wait to play it!
@SBandy1 Those borders are the reason I don't play retro games on NSO ^^' Why can't it just be black and without having to see your user icon all the time..
5/10, Switch 2 itself looks nice, but the first party games were a bit lackluster. Mario Kart World looked great, but that was basically it. Being able to play games I've already played a year or more ago doesn't excite me either. I guess the From Software game could be a great exclusive, though I felt you didn't get shown enough and it'll probably go multiplatform a few months down the line.
Forgot to apply, could've gone to the one in Amsterdam (if selected of course), but oh well. I'm going to buy the Switch 2 anyway, so not like I needed to try it out.
@Yosti Didn't you just say you have BotW "complete" on cartridge, even though it also got updates and patches after its release? Oh well, agreee to disagree and the defense was really only meant to tell you it's an amazing game worth buying without the little patches/updates it got after release (just like BotW ).
FYI, even though I already own a release copy of BotW, I still bought a Japanese copy of BotW that includes the DLC, so I am someone who prefers having everything on the physical cartridge as well, it's just not always necessary and/or feasible.
Edit: Now also see your comment above mine and hope you don't think I'm being toxic. You should obviously do whatever you see fit and there are too many good games out there to play all of them anyway. I just thought you should know that the original release didn't need any extra content (or fixes), so it was already complete.
@Yosti In his defense, the game is complete on the cartridge. These updates mostly add little extras, but I only ever played the original release and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mostly saying this, because I think it's shame if you'd miss out on a great game, which it seems like you're interested in, just over not having all the little updates on the cartridge.
Even something like BotW got updates/fixes after release, but I'm going to guess you still own that as well.
@Expa0 So in a shooter, when you gain points from getting headshots or whatever, that also means it's pretty telling that it treats this aspect as a "chore"? That honestly makes zero sense to me and seems like you're just grasping at straws..
I prefer the more simplistic (and less busy) background of NA. Shame the figures don't fully fit on the cover, but still had to go for NA over EU. Japan's cover is way too boring this week. ^^'
@Magician Kinda makes it even more sour to me. Wasn't cheap to get it to Europe and now they're just re-releasing it. Good for all the people who didn't get it the first time.. I guess
World of Goo is one of my favourite indies of all time, so yes, I definitely want the sequel physically. Anyone know where you can pre-order it (Dutchy here)?

At the very least this is just a list of 100 awesome Nintendo games, no need to look at the numbers! ^^
Re: Anniversary: 20 Years Ago, 'GUN' Brought America's Old West (And An All-Star Cast) To GameCube
Absolutely loved this game back in the day (though on PC)! Would actually love a remake of it.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Hey You, Pikachu!
Weirdly enough I had to go for NA. Both are pretty bad, but I could see myself being way more drawn to the NA one as a kid.

Definitely has some gorgeous pixel art! Will keep my eye on this one.

@B_Lindz Couldn't agree more and it really seemed like such a Nintendo thing to do, which I love.

It really is way too easy for Nintendo to make money fly out of my wallet.
These are two of the best games ever made though IMO, so I'm not complaining at all!

Europe/NA's cover just looks a lot more fun and whimsical, matching the actual game.
