@PJOReilly We're definitely from the same age group. Love your articles ✌️
OB64: PoLC... What a surprise that was for me on N64. Definitely took the taste of Quest 64 out of my mouth, ptooey. I had never played a real time strategy up to this point, and I had so much fun creating units, strategizing map placement, and improvising when things don't go the way I'd hoped on the fly. I've hoped forever for a new "Ogre Battle" game, but Unicorn Overlord will do for now.
All I would need is gyro. As for the button locking, I can't say I've hit those buttons in the heat of gaming on a pro controller, but I have more often than not hit the capture button on the joycon in handheld mode.
I just played the Mojogami demo. I'm usually team "All Inti-Creates!", but there's a couple of games lately where I've been "eh", but this one actually was pretty entertaining to me, so I'll scope the full game out. I beat Berserk Boy last night... Good indy game, well worth my time. I'm on to focus on Lords of Exile this weekend. I've been dabbling in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lately, just for fun... I missed the boat, so I'm just enjoying the spirit of it until the next inevitable iteration. I might slide in a little Rocket League. And the real one I need to get back to is Chrono Cross-- I need to see this through to the end.
Super Metroid, no doubt. The original, suspenseful, dead body laden, quiet pulsating baby Metroid, subtle appearance of "Super Metroid" appearing. Set the tone right for them all, to me.
I will have to find the time for this one. This is how I want to start the Trails series. The characters are endearing, the world is believable in a way only Falcom knows how to present, though the narrative does get long winded at times. But it just "feels" fun, and that's all I need.
Well, that's almost all the MegaMans series now. I wasn't sure they'd do a Starforce Legacy Collection or not, but they did, so that leaves a hypothetical MegaMan Legends Legacy Collection with Legends 1, 2, and perhaps The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. One can hope. MML had evaded me for far too long.
@Yalloo Berserk Boy wears it's Mega Man/Mega Man X inspiration hard on its sleeve coupled with a speedy flow at times reminiscent of Freedom Planet. I don't like a lot of Mega Man clones, but this one is top tier on gameplay and presentation.
I haven't played all the Klonoas but one (can't recall which... I think the one on Wii?), but it was just an enjoyable game. I don't really know why either. I'm not a die hard fan, but I like this character and concept.
You can't just, not make a deal from the jump to retain ownership, not know your song is repeatedly in use, then when "you could use some money these days", try to pursue what you own in spirit but don't legally own. That's not how any business works. Word to the wise: Own the rights to your works!
The Mario/Donkey Kong-verse is fast and loose to me. There's some continuity, but there's a lot of "let's go with it", so I don't stress about it as much as say, Zelda, which actually has continuity, barring the separate BOTW timeline... But that's a separate discussion.
As a dabbler of shmups, I'm glad for the lifebar, which I know is considered improper, but I'm the audience that just wants to enjoy shooting all the things with challenge, but a good chance to survive with some skill. If the difficulty scales well, then I'll play the harder more proper way.
It's been a fun ride. Wow, I've played and beat almost all of these. No matter how old I get, or what I play, there's two constants I will die with-- Always playing the next Super Mario game, and the next Zelda game, if nothing else. Happy 40th SMB, the game that turned me on to Nintendo consoles.
I keep seeing what looks like a construct Link, or something, from the trailers, but could be wrong. Or he's in it, I guess by way of teleporting him to the past with Zelda. These "Age of" Hyrule Warriors games are basically alt-timelines, so I wouldn't be surprised if they took that liberty.
The first response is "no" to this for me, but I'm always a "wait and see" kind of person. IPs are going to change over the years, whether incrementally or suddenly, and sometimes they don't stick the landing. But i still applaud it not doing the same ol same ol. Just to name a few, Zelda II:AOL, Zelda:OoT, Zelda:WW, Zelda BOTW series, SMB2, SM64, Super Mario Sunshine, etc have all either shocked and delighted or possibly sewed division with their releases. But I trust there will be enough "Metroid Prime" there to still appreciate the experience. Can't wait to see more.
The glaring "1st Chapter" is what did it for me. I know the 2nd chapter was always suffixed with "SC", but has the first game always had a suffix? Plus, considering that Falcom is just dumping the whole Trails series these days, none of this should've been a surprise. I'm just glad the first series is here now so I can begin the Trails series in order finally.
I'm not impressed with any of them. So tired of the NA style with a weak, over the top, miss the mark, art depiction (I know, it's part of the charm). Probotector keeps it simple and to the point for me, so that's my pick.
It was probably said a million times by now, but digital as a concept "can" last forever in a manner of speaking, but it's life depends on the server's life, and more directly on how long the owner wants it to stay on the server, so it's a toss up. No, physical things don't last forever, but they're yours , and if they last a long portion of your lifetime, then it's time well spent with your [insert object, but we'll keep it to physical media for sake of argument].
As a supportive argument for digital, all I've said is if these IP owners did a better job at preservation, I'd be willing to be all digital, but until that time comes, I'm not all in.
Final comment. It's going to be hell making an adjustment with GameFly on Switch 2. I haven't explored how these Game Key Cards have affected things just yet when the game I want to rent is a GKC... 🫤
I definitely used this in the re-release of FFVII on Switch, only cause it's definitely a product of its time, and though I was there, I didn't play it back then, so I just wanted to enjoy the game. I doubt I would use this on the remake though, but glad it's there for those that just want to enjoy it.
On an unrelated note, why did I read "Unlimited Powaaaah" in a Kirby Sideous voice? 😆
I'm still in shock Nintendo isn't ashamed of this system still and actually pulled off something I've BEEN wanting them to do. What I don't get is they had a chance to make this easier by releasing it on the 3DS VC, but I digress. The VB, failure or not, was one of my biggest regrets I didn't purchase back in the day, so, limited library and all, I am one of the weirdos that will be getting in on the demands needed to set this up.
I wrapped up the Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter demo yesterday. I'm playing Powerwash Simulator... So mad there's a part 2 coming now. Lords of Exile is FINALLY 50% off, so I'm picking that up. There'll be some dabble, including possible retro throwback action, so here's a spitfire of possibilities:
Chrono Cross Mercs StarTropics Omega 6: The Triangle Stars Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
... And some Mario 40th anniversary action-- Probably Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 eReader levels (phew).
I don't remember what year it was that I finally beat Super Mario Bros. I do know I first played it ever in my life in 1987, and when I finally got my NES in '88, I had moved on to get Super Mario Bros. 2 and beat that. This is where it gets really foggy-- I eventually got my own copy of Super Mario Bros. and did finally beat it, but I can't remember if I beat it before or after Super Mario Bros 3. All I know is I beat it somewhere in between '88 and '91.
Hmm, didn't feel very Acclaim to me, but at least the presentation did have a vibe going for it. I feel a lot of stuff was worth a look. It'll be interesting to see how a lot of it's scores. It kind of felt like they were trying to piggyback off of the revitalized Atari somewhat-- Time will tell if it's all worth it. Maybe if they happen to pick up some licensed IPs, and do decent with those, then maybe Acclaim will turn some more heads.
It'll be Mina the Hallower demo and Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter demo, first and foremost. I finally want to kick off Powerwash Simulator. I also just downloaded Omega 6: The Triangle Stars-- Too cheap to pass up. Once I'm over the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom withdrawal, I'll finally circle back to Crono Cross.

I reeealy thought this was a Pikmin stunt, then no Pikmin. Cute nonetheless, but mysterious.
Re: Mario's Super Picross Has Got Some Rather Lovely NSO Icons
I regularly play a round or two of Mario's Super Picross, so this pretty cool-- And then I realized that I let my NSO lapse. Meh.

TMNT: Splintered Fate

Double Dragon: Rise of the Dragons
