Re: Legend Of Mana: The Art Of Mana - 30th Anniversary Edition Is Getting An English Version

MeloMan

I love these comments. Secret of Evermore mentions, Mana fans missing opportunities to play LoM. On the former, it's criminal it's locked in SE jail since the defunct Square USA developed it, so we we'll likely never see it outside of emulation. On LoM, I myself had just come off the glory train that was Secret of Mana, so when I knew there was a follow-up I was very hyped, but I didn't have a PlayStation and wasn't likely to have one soon in those days. The worst part is though I have yet to play it, I've heard that it's a divisive entry, so I constantly stay on the fence about giving it a shot or not. I don't know if I'll ever play LoM...

Re: The Next Picross Games Are Teaming Up With Capcom & SNK

MeloMan

Picross honestly is my favorite of all the puzzle games I've ever played in my lifetime. I first started with Mario Picross on Game Boy and completed that, and I'm slowly working my way through Mario's Super Picross on NSO. If I ever finish that, I'll join in on Jupiter's work play some of their games, maybe even one of these crossovers.

Re: Review: R-Type Delta: HD Boosted (Switch) - The Best R-Type? Possibly, And It's Never Looked Better

MeloMan

I inadvertently became a fan of R-Type by playing Super R-Type from my local Blockbuster for SNES back in the day. I've dabbled on and off with the series, got a chance to realize just how hard it can get, and even took a stab at Final until I got locked in a stage that I could not get out of so bad that I had to just put the game down. Yet, I love the gameplay mechanism of R-Type, so I will give Delta a shot when I can since I've heard lots of good things about it.

Re: Anniversary: 20 Years Ago, 'GUN' Brought America's Old West (And An All-Star Cast) To GameCube

MeloMan

I swear I thought about this game the other day, and yes, I did have the pleasure of playing it to completion-- I just couldn't remember how good it was, or how much it was overshadowed by Red Dead Redemption. Thanks for reminding me that it was a worthy time sink in those Rockstar dominated days. A lot of the deeper Gamecube library is a blur for me, so it's good to hear about these other games. Here's another deep cut-- True Crime: Streets of L.A. as a GTA-like.

Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 20 Today!

MeloMan

Happy 20th NL, and wishes for many more. I had to double check my profile... I've been here 15 of those years, holy cow. Prior to that I split my time between hanging out on IGN and GameFAQs. I know Nintendo was going through a lot of changes those years, and it just seemed like everywhere I turned, people were just reporting Nintendo news just to dump on them, rather than just give us a day in the life of Nintendo, with still factual, relevant information, and have a little fun with it for better or worse. That's when I started searching for Nintendo themed internet outlets and stumbled upon Nintendo Life. I loved the humanity of the articles, the wit, and even the comments didn't have an excessive amount of flamers so I could actually enjoy commenting. I can honestly say I have checked back with this website dedicatedly since I've been here every single day, rarely missing a day here and there. I found it refreshing that it seemed to be an effort on both sides of the pond, and also had people that were my own age which made it even easier. So in return I just want to say thank you guys for being my number one outlet for any and all Nintendo related news and for being the great staff that you guys are. No one knows what the future holds but as long as you can maintain the spirit of this site I know it'll be around a lot longer. Cheers everyone.

Re: "These Shouldn't Be The Only Games Being Made" - Keiji Inafune Critical Of Reliance On Big IPs

MeloMan

I can see his point. The further back in time you go, the more Wild West it was, with devs taking more chances because no one knew what would be successful-- Then once they learn what was successful, they started playing it a lot safer to ensure profit. Overall you need a little of everything in the industry. You need chance takers even if the project fails, and you also need more of what works. State of affairs, that.

Re: Review: Double Dragon Revive (Switch) - Nice Ideas, Uneven Execution

MeloMan

Long time Double Dragon fan here. I wasn't a fan when I saw it first revealed, but I kept an open mind. Then I saw the gameplay, and it looked a little alpha build, so I figured it needed more time in the oven. Then the final product comes-- Yeah, I can see it missed the mark. With all the brawler revivals going on, this already had an uphill climb, so they reeeally needed to come with the goods. Like someone mentioned, give it to Dotemu or the like cause Yukes wasn't going to bring out the best in DD. I'm still going to give it a go with my fellow DD fan friend, but we'll temper our expectations.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (1st November)

MeloMan

Chrono Cross I feel is nearing completion. SPOILERS FOR THOSE THAT NEVER PLAYED IT AND HOPE TO

Hopefully I'm about to get Serge's body back as it's been... interesting being Lynx for like, half the game? I can't believe the amount of characters I've obtained just in GP. Definitely it's own experience separate from Chrono Trigger, which I'm a huge fan of, but that not a bad thing.
