Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 FOMO, Spark Games, Pancakes & BOTW - Nintendo Life Letters

MeloMan

I've been off and on as far as early adoption, usually swayed by the tide of available money on hand. I also sometimes try to wait for the second generation of systems to iron out the first generation's kinks. I have a 1st gen Switch, only because a coworker had a second one available, so I took him up on it. Been a good system besides the odd unexplainable crash here and there.

As far as 100% completion, I used to beat ALL games I played to the point of seeing credits roll. These days, I still play to completion, but I try to be much more selective since my time is limited. Also, I've actually begun to start games and walk away from them if they a) soft lock/crash/challenge spikes ridiculously/etc. or b) Buyer's remorse from a game that just doesn't hold my interest so I put it down.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th March)

MeloMan

I'm almost ready to resume my campaign with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but first, a few detours.

Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore
I love how this is an intentional faux-CDi experience, and even better since I never experienced the CDi. So far it's a no frills, competent, humorous adventure with good music.

Pentiment
My first support I'm throwing to Xbox via Nintendo. I like the point and click/ visual novel genres, and everyone has raved so hard about this game, so I'm going to sample a bit of this.

Arranger
Interesting little game I'm sampling. First boss showed me the puzzles I'll be facing. I am NOT a master puzzler, mind, so I'll have to play this one when I'm in that mood, unfortunately.

Bloodless
Love the style and gameplay of this so far. Story isn't bad either.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Gonna contribute my laps to that Mar10 tourney.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus
I've been feeling like dabbling a little more in this game to see if I'm ready to play more often.

Re: Opinion: Against All Odds - Why Does RPG RNG Hate Me?

MeloMan

@AlanaHagues I swear we're cut from the same RPG cloth lol, love your articles. One of my RNG stories is from Fire Emblem: Three Houses where RNG worked TOO GOOD in my favor. The issue was I needed to train up weaker members of my team, so I just wanted my star characters to simply beat the enemies down so my weaker members could go in for the kill, but nope, even with a 5% chance of a critical (multiple times) they just have to go and annihilate the enemies. This happened so many times it's not even funny. Most people will be happy, but it just means I had to spend valuable time I already don't have training up the weaklings.

Re: Poll: What Switch Game Could You Not Live Without?

MeloMan

I normally would say Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but I really didn't get around to it this generation like i wanted to, which is odd for me considering my love for Smash. So I will have to choose another evergreen title in the form of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I love the adventure of Zelda, but competition never dies for me.

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Switch Launched On This Day Eight Years Ago

MeloMan

I've had A LOT of fun with this system. For me, a gamer of 40+ years, this system was a bit of a "this is your life as a Nintendo gamer". I got to play some of the best of the present and celebrations of the past. I've used the system portable and docked all this time as needed. This system was far from perfect, but I can't think of an all in one good time as I've had with Switch. Definitely will go down as some of my best gaming ever.

Re: Opinion: Nintendo, Let Us Buy The Games Being Delisted From Switch Online

MeloMan

This is the joy of the digital age /s. I look at NSO as Nintendo simply throwing a bone with the bonus of online play. Preservation is not an agenda for the major players of the video game industry, just a teasing cash grab. I've already resolved myself to not debate or get upset about this kind of behavior. This is where I would just go harder in the paint with emulation and be done with it, specifically for the games that I really want to play that may never grace a console again (if they ever). Case in point, StarTropics is one of my favorite games ever-- For me it's merely a treat to play it on NSO, but I have no desire to emulate or own it at this time since I beat it so many years ago, so StarTropics on NSO serves it's purpose. Of course I would love to play all games on native hardware/original brand, but at this time in the video game industry it is just not a reality.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Introduces Thrilling Series First "Real Time" Battles

MeloMan

I'm not going to overhype or under hype this game just yet. The original Pokemon formula was not really something that I enjoyed, and I've technically enjoyed more of Pokemon's experimental games than anything. Arceus was one of the best examples that I've played and practically the Pokemon game I've always waited for. I look forward to seeing and knowing more about this one to see if it will surpass that.
