I watched a video comparing them and my take away is that neither version is for me. The sound of the bones breaking is just too much for my delicate constitution. I liked the originals when I was a kid but the smaller characters and pixel graphics made ripping someone’s spine out seem comical where here it seems…accurate. No thanks
I’m going on a work trip so I will have a ton of time for airport, plane and hotel gaming. I’ll continue final fantasy 6, I think I’m about halfway through. I’ll probably bring another big rpg I haven’t started like persona 5R and some bite size platformers.
I’ve been obsessed with getting every star and stamp in Super Mario 3D world - I already did it on my Wii U copy and want to do the same on switch. What great challenge. I think 3D world is my favorite 3D Mario game
For me the draw of LotR when I read them as a kid was the descriptions of Shire life, and the sense of adventure as the characters traveled across beautifully described locations. In my mind it was all light-filled natural beauty
Then after the movies came out it seemed like every game was super dark and focused on destroying waves of orcs in the pit of hell and boy that just did not appeal to me at all. I'll welcome anything that reclaims what I liked about LotR
My wife watched the Mario Wonder Direct with me and commented that the plot of Mario games is sort of like the plot in adult movies: just an excuse to get into the action. I thought that was pretty insightful honestly.
@rjejr play asia has the game with the DLC listed for $55. Not bad. Enterprising people would probably be able to sell their original Mario Kart 8 for $25-40 and recoup some of the cost.
Long time Nintendo Power fan here who has the first 150 issues - I need to get to this exhibit asap. The clay models specifically are about as nostalgic as nostalgia gets for me. I spent hours poring over these magazines as a kid. It’s hard to explain how exciting they were in a world with no internet and no other way of getting gaming news
I started up Final Fantasy 6 and it already has its claws in me. I’ve been craving an old school RPG and decided I was going to play it the original way and not turn encounters off. I just got to the opera scene.
Also I’m still trying to get in one day in Pikmin 3 with my wife each night.
And I want to continue Twilight Princess HD but it can be hard to play anything not on the switch. I’m on the go a lot and the switch is just so convenient
I am pretty laid back about this stuff usually but this is very annoying. I had to wait a long time for my TMNT cartridge to come in, for them to now announce another release this quickly that makes mine essentially deprecated does not feel good.
I’m surprised they didn’t hold warioware or Mario rpg or the peach game from the last direct and debut it today instead. The last few directs felt overstuffed with news and this one felt a bit thin. I’ve got a full pipeline of games I’m excited about so no real complaints, but this direct was definitely the least exciting in at least a year for me
I just started #6 and so far YEP it’s about as good as everyone says. Amazing intro, economical storytelling and some of the best music I’ve ever heard in a game
@Cashews sea of stars is getting a physical release early next year through iam8bit who usually have a pretty wide release. I don’t think it’ll be a limited run situation, tho this game is popular enough that it may be hard to get one right on day 1
I haven't gotten Pikmin yet but I'm excited to play it soon, I've seen many people, some I wouldn't expect, list it as their GOTY so far, which is really saying something with the year we've had.
Strange lineup, but I’m excited to try the NES game, it looks to be the same developers as river city ransom, dodge ball and crash n the boys street challenge - I love those games and still have the cartridges
To me the perfect platformer is one I can crank through to the end credits without much challenge, then spend a month throwing my controller across the room trying to 100% - so far this looks like it’ll fit the bill nicely!
@Dark_Isatari I basically didn't play video games between Gamecube and Switch, so to get caught up I have Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, the DS games and Minish Cap. I already played link between worlds (LOVED IT). I've also never beaten Majora's Mask though I've tried several times. I just find it very difficult, and regularly get lost in the main town even though I've started the game half a dozen times. I'll get thru it someday though.
Unfortunately I had to drop Zelda: Spirit Tracks - I'm trying to be a completist but I just find the DS zelda games to be tedious.
In other Zelda completionist news, I'm playing Twilight Princess HD for the first time - I'm pretty early on and in the Forest Temple. I can see why people regard this game so highly, and it's amazing that if my wife wants the TV I can just press select and play on the gamepad.
When I have some shorter gaming slots I will continue with The Messenger. This game is getting better as it goes, and the controls are just so tight and responsive that you feel like you're one with the character.
Oh and my wife and I have been playing through a day of Pikmin 3 each night. It's a great ritual - she's not really a gamer but has really warmed to Pikmin. Similar to my daughters she throws the controller at me when she gets to a boss.
My plan is to get Pikmin1+2, Wonder, and Mario RPG new while trawling Facebook marketplace to fill in holes in my collection at a discount. Oh and also to use the power of my backlog to hold me back from buying sea of stars digital while waiting for the cartridge
The best platformer I've played in the last few years is Yoshi's Woolly World which I came to late. If SMB Wonder has half the charm and creativity of that game - which seems likely - it'll be worth my money.
@invictus4000 I think it was a strange choice to start the demo at some middle point of the game where the player doesn’t really know what’s going on, and doesn’t get the early game tutorial info to help understand how to play. That’s what bothered me at least, which gives me hope that the actual game won’t have those issues.
Through this interview and the making of video this guy is saying all the right things. I’m so excited, I don’t know if I can wait for the physical copy next year. A 9 or above on NL and I’ll probably just buy it day 1
I'm closing in on the end of Tunic, or rather I think I am - the game is a bit inscrutable and it's easy to miss major parts of it if you're not careful. Sometimes this aspect of the game adds to its mystery, other times it's just frustrating. Also, the bosses are so flipping hard.
Elsewhere, I got a nice new model 3DS XL recently, so I think I'm going to start a game on there, either Dragon Quest VIII or Layton vs Phoenix. I missed the 3DS era the first time around and am loving getting caught up - there are days when I like it more than my switch.
@EaglyBird It'll be interesting to see and will depend a lot on whether the new switch is backwards compatible. If its not, I would guess everyone with a switch 2 will get Mario Kart 9 (or whatever it's called), same as they did with 8. But if it's backwards compatible they will have to sell gamers on why they need the new one.
I'm a Nintendo obsessive but mario kart is really just in my collection for family get togethers or kid play dates - I'm not sure I would need the new one for that purpose
Honestly none of the stuff mentioned in the article bothers me - I'm a nintendo only person who has never played these games so direct ports is fine. What does bother me is that almost all of it will have to be downloaded even if you have a cart. For whatever reason that is the type of laziness that grinds my gears
I started playing Spirit Tracks on vacation but man did I find that game tedious - after playing TotK it’s hard not to find that era of Zelda a bit derivative, and I really struggle with the stylus controls. I’m a bit of a completist though so I’ll probably finish it eventually.
Now that I’m back home with my whole collection, time to complete Tunic - I’m completely gobsmacked by this game.
@chipia I have heard constant complaints about the early tutorial portion but consensus is that the game really improves if you can push through that opening part
The graphics and sound in this game are on another level and the demo was wonderful. I'm usually a physical-only person but will buy this digitally day one. The demo sold it for me, though if I'm being honest these types of games are so up my alley that they often disappoint me when I actually play them.
Never got rid of a game but I told my mom to throw away a bag with 50+ NES boxes. She isn’t a hoarder but doesn’t throw stuff away lightly and was hesitant - I insisted she throw it all away. <face palm>. Now I’m a collector and that bag would’ve doubled the value of my collection.
I also threw away all my GameCube boxes during the CD booklet crazy - thought I was saving space. Now I’m considering paying $100 for just the box for Eternal Darkness…
To me it was always the PC games, usually semi educational ones I played at school.
I can remember every console game I’ve ever played, but I had a whole bunch of PC games I couldn’t remember that I played CONSTANTLY. I ended up finding the name of a few of them: Incredible Machines and The Island of Dr Brain among them
I left my switch at home for vaca so I can’t check %, but I beat the game at the 160 hour mark. I’d guess I’m sub-50% though. I didn’t go crazy with the shrines or caves. Light roots though I crushed - I found it very addictive to chase after the lights in the distance
I'm on vacation this week and wanted to focus on family time so I didn't bring the Switch. BUT! I brought exactly one video game thing: my Gameboy Advance SP and a Mother 3 translation cartridge. Figured I'd play a bit at night and start on this game I've wanted to play forever with no other games to distract me away.

@PokemonDMG I just brought it home- when you put the cartridge in it shows up as 2 tiles on the Home Screen. It also prompts you for a patch download

Literally in line to pick it up as we speak. Excited to have 1-4 lined up on my shelf!

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct Showcase?
I absolutely loved it - to me a 2D Mario game is the prototypical video game so I will always want to see where the franchise is at.

Physical collector here - does this mean there’s a one time code for the other two, or just a required download when you pop in the disk?
