Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Price Has Been Confirmed

Manguy888A

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a company-wide mandate to not give away software. I remember in Reggie’s book a scene where he and Miyamoto disagreed about Wii sports being a free pack in, with Miyamoto firmly believing that good software was hard and shouldn’t be given away under any circumstance

Re: Rumour: Zelda Live-Action Movie Will Reportedly Be Part Of A "Trilogy"

Manguy888A

I’m about as big a zelda fan as you’ll find but I do not care about this movie at all. I’d be happy to keep movies and games completely separate, but I understand this is how you have to operate as a giant company with powerful IP.

If these movies make them a bunch of money and allow them to keep funding great games and hardware then I am all for it, as long as it’s a one-way relationship - I don’t want the movies to start affecting the games

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Digital File Size Seemingly Reduced

Manguy888A

Last year I did a large trade with someone that included the Wii U version of XCX game back when it was worth around ~$100, and now it's gone way down. Lately it seems like Nintendo is more willing than ever to remake or port forward even modest successes, and I think going forward I'm going to assume any expensive old game can drop in price at any moment due to a remake and not even consider then when I am buying and selling, and just focus on what I want to play.

Re: Nintendo Taking "All Possible Measures" To Combat Switch 2 Scalpers

Manguy888A

I am not smart on these things but I noticed that for the switch 2 hands on event they did registration via Nintendo accounts. Could they do something similar where everyone with a Nintendo account is able to log on and order 1 switch 2. Wouldn't this allow Nintendo fans to get a system without fighting on commercial sites for limited supplies?

Re: Opinion: With Forecasts Slashed (Again), Absolutely Everyone's Antsy For Switch 2 ASAP

Manguy888A

I don’t need it to launch soon, but I really wish that the announcements had already started.

It’s been the coldest, darkest January in years in my part of New England, and the new president is making my job stressful and uncertain. I really could’ve used some switch 2 news to get excited about (beyond the hardware stuff that we already knew). April 2 feels like it’s years away

Re: Super Mario Party Jamboree Is The Fastest-Selling Entry In Franchise History

Manguy888A

I'm impressed that this is selling so well late in the switch's life. It really is head and shoulders above the other recent entries.

I agree with criticisms of the board game mode itself and how long everything takes - that could be improved - but my family mostly uses the other modes - toad's item factory, rhythm kitchen, mini game mode, etc. Endless fun

Re: Japanese Charts: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Continues Its Winning Streak

Manguy888A

I'm seeing locally on places like FB marketplace that as soon as the switch reveal happened, prices dropped hard on used switches. I'm seeing switch lites in newish condition for $80, oleds for $200, with regular switches hovering in between. Some even come with the boxes.
Anyone still wanting a switch who's willing to do some leg work could do a lot better than the store retail price.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition On Switch

Manguy888A

I’m trying to fight collectors’ mindset here as I already have it on Wii U, but I’ve got all the other switch xenoblades and wouldn’t X look nice on the shelf right next to them???

Five games total including Torna, probably 400 hours of gameplay, and the cartridges placed on a table are probably the size of a cracker. Still blows my mind

Re: Japanese Charts: Super Mario Party Jamboree Is On A Roll

Manguy888A

Jamboree really is a great game. It has so many different modes that you can find something for everyone. I brought this to a work holiday lunch where we had some games set up, and I had people who do not play video games AT ALL having a blast with Toad's item factory, working together with folks they don't normally interact with - it was a huge sccess

Re: Super Mario Party Jamboree Version 1.1.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Manguy888A

@Gryffin yeah it absolutely is. The boards are packed with so much stuff that each turn takes longer. It's all fun stuff, but the result is that you can spend 90 minutes on a ten turn game, and sometimes players have gotten very few stars. I can't imagine how long a 20 turn game takes - my kids could never keep attention that long.
Because of this we've been doing the other modes which are mostly great. even with my complaints, it's a great game

Re: Super Mario Party Jamboree Version 1.1.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Manguy888A

This game is truly great - my family has engaged with it unlike any other switch game. One daughter loves rhythm kitchen, the other always wants to play toads item factory. Separately I brought it along to a friends weekend away and we had some great Mario parties. I think it’s head and shoulders above the other switch MP games. My only complaint is that a 10 turn game takes way too long, I wish they could get it closer to an hour rather than 90 minutes

Re: Talking Point: Is It Time For Another Side-Scrolling Zelda Game?

Manguy888A

Zelda II was the first video game I ever got, and probably the Zelda I've played the most, so I have no way to judge the game outside of my nostalgia.

I voted heck yes only because I'm confident that the team who makes zelda would only release a side scroller if they found a unique high quality approach. For all we know they started making another 2D one and scrapped it because it wasn't up to their standards.

Re: Video: Mario & Luigi: Brothership New Trailer Highlights Battle Mechanics

Manguy888A

@Pillowpants I just played through the super star saga 3DS remake and can’t recommend it enough. The combat is so satisfying with absolutely wacky and colorful animations. Based on what I’m seeing of brothership, the look is a bit different but the animations and overall vibes are similar between the two. It’s worth checking out for sure

Re: Soapbox: Why I Love A Good Map, And That Time I Mapped Yoshi's Melons For Nintendo Power

Manguy888A

This was a great read! I love game maps too and it’s one of the reasons I collect strategy guides (including the yoshi one you worked on!).

I respect your complaint about Metroid, but I kind of love when a game forces you to draw your own map on paper - these are some of my best gaming memories from childhood.

Another thing worth exploring is when a game shows you the next story point on an overlay map - a lot of RPGs now do this but I remember first seeing it in a grand theft auto game. In these cases I end up looking at the overlay map and not the actual game and I think it really diminishes the experience

Re: Talking Point: HD-2D Or 3D - How Should Square Enix Remake Chrono Trigger?

Manguy888A

@EarthboundBenjy to me having the maps visible and the text clutter on the lower screen makes it better than the SNES version, but I agree with you about the extra content.

I'll buy whatever they make, because I'm human, but honestly I don't want them to touch it. If you put a gun to my head, HD-2D. I'll by that. I'd be bummed by a low-budget 3D remake, and I'd especially be unhappy with a FF7 Remake situation (though I bet that would make a lot of people happy which is cool). The game is so special as-is

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (8th June)

Manguy888A

I’m sick this weekend and may finish Skyward Sword for the first time. I’ve enjoyed revisiting the more classic Zelda experience, but boy does this game pad itself out in the final hours, I keep getting sent back to the same 3 main areas to do slightly different things. The world here is surprisingly small by Zelda standards

Despite my complaints I like the game, especially the temples.

Re: Japanese Charts: Paper Mario: TTYD Stays On Top Despite Drop In Sales

Manguy888A

I noticed a lot of my more casual friends got Mario RPG out of a vague memory of the snes game and to see if their kids would like a RPG (we’re in our 40s). Among that crowd no one had TTYD on their radar and had trouble differentiating it from Mario RPG.

Maybe younger gamers will keep sales going, but it’s possible that this will have big early numbers because of its cult status and then fall off a cliff. I kind of wish they released TTYD first

Re: Video: 10 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In May 2024

Manguy888A

Super excited about paper Mario, otherwise nothing for me here. I miss the excitement we had last year with Zelda coming out, Metroid prime remastered dropping out of nowhere, a new 2D Mario game being announced. Tho this has been a good time to work on my backlog and let my wallet recover in anticipation of switch 2
