I love that they are being completist and bringing back even less successful parts of their history, but I can’t fathom $100 for a hunk of plastic without electronics
There was a point during switch 1 where I was a 100% collector of everything Nintendo put out, but based on some of these prices I am really pulling back. I imagine I’m not alone, and based on peoples’ economic sentiment I think they’ll have an uphill battle matching the sales numbers they had from 2017-2024
I don’t want difficulty settings because I would probably get frustrated and use them. I love well designed games that don’t offer you an olive branch.
I’m really split on which version to buy. I am not usually a guy who cares too much about performance, but the DQ3 upgrade does look great on switch 2. And I am a physical collector. Oy…
I downloaded the upgrade for 3 and it’s glorious. Free but I would’ve paid for it. And this one you can’t have, free or paid. The inconsistency is strange
This is great news. I’m going to dive in, hesitantly.
I tend to like most Nintendo stuff a lot and not agree with the average complaints I see on here, but boy was I disappointed with the jamboree expansion pack. The base game is one of my favorites, but some of the choices in how they bolted on the extra content was just bizarre to me. Sounds like this was better integrated
I played this on ps4 and it was rough in spots - at times enemies in the background moved like stop motion - but it didn’t matter because the game was so overwhelmingly great. So if they can get it close to that performance, it’ll still be better than 99% of games
Man, now that Silksong has a release date, this is shaping up to be one of the best stretches for games in a long time. Forgotten land expansion, Silksong, air riders, Metroid prime (hopefully!!). So much stuff that’s right up my alley
I really am getting burned out on every article being about framerate, with reviewers giving ranges, dips and guesstimates. I understand it’s important but wish it wasn’t the first thing mentioned. Often because many times I personally don’t notice or I do a little but it doesn’t matter because I love the game. It creates a cry wolf thing where a game that really truly suffers due to framerate is hidden among games that are honestly fine to play
I did the global jam and was super impressed with the game, but I don’t know if I have the skill and wherewithal to get good at the game (I was really bad).
The control scheme was awesome and it’s clear to me that the new joy cons are 10x better at motion. That was always a complaint of mine with switch 1 - any motion stuff felt almost random
There is a very good chance my friends and I will buy this and try it out for a laugh. $15 seems a little steep for the experience, but also I’ve spent more on a coffee and scone
I can’t believe they couldn’t even make a cheap switch 2 cartridge for games under 10GB. In a way I feel for companies that would have to buy a 64GB card for their 4gb game and lose 15% of their profit on physical sales.
I’m not happy with the key cards but I understand the decision making of these companies. It sounds like Nintendo didn’t give them very good choices
I’m old enough that I used to play through games with a paper strategy guide on the coffee table. I am really hesitant to have my phone out during a game, even though the concept is really cool
I missed this game the first time around and tried playing the switch port - the backgrounds were super blurry and the high-res-but-old textures were super sharp and stood out like a sore thumb. I had to drop it, which is too bad because I’ve heard so much great stuff about the game
I looked at my purchase list for 2025 and realized that it’s been a really light year so far and most games I played were not 2025 releases. If I had to vote, I’d say switch 2 welcome tour - I really really like it; no irony, no anger over the price. Little mini game collections like that make me happy.
I enjoyed seeing the move where DK can launch himself off of a rock he’s holding and get a second jump, more of that will make me excited about the movement possibilities in this game, as that’s what really excites me about 3D platformers
These upgrades are great - I am all for them - but I hope they pick a cut-off point and transition to switch 2 only within a year or so.
In the playstation world, so many games have come out with PS4 versions even recently, that I as a casual playstation fan have held off on getting a PS5. I'd prefer Nintendo not go down this road and really focus on releasing a lot of swich 2 games and make the argument for folks to upgrade.
I’m going to be honest you guys, I love this game. It’s the main thing I’m playing on switch 2 and I’ve already put more time into it than many games that cost more than $10.
I know this is unpopular, but I’m okay with their stance that software shouldn’t be free. I wish the mini games were expanded to be two player but otherwise I’m very happy with it. It’ll keep me occupied until bananza
Elden Ring has a lot of story as far as lore, mood, etc, but doesn’t really have a narrative like the last of us for example. So they will have to make it up based on what they got. And decide how much CGI generated stuff to fill the world with, and at what quality level
I’m not a huge Mario kart person - it’s a game I break out when kids or family members visit. But some of the single player open world challenges could get me into it.
If it’s anything like switch 1, these things don’t hold their value, meaning you’ll be able to buy a used key card game in a few years for peanuts at a used game shop. I probably won’t buy many of these new, but used - definitely.
I expected to see some mouse controls for captain toad but otherwise looks like about what I would expect. Itll be fun to boot up all these games and give them a try in switch 2
Im curious to see if they’ll roll out more free updates over time or if this is a one time push
There was one year there where they released what seemed like 10 different switch games to a similar audience - triangle strategy, live a live, diofield, tactics ogre, octopath, and on and on and on. I am a pretty heavy collector but even I couldn't keep up. They'd do better to release less or spread things out.
I will definitely use it. I play switch most nights and will notice my friends playing Fortnite or some other massive online game and I’d love to talk with them but don’t want to play that game.
It’s easy to say you won’t use the feature, but i think once people are using their switches and see a friend pop on, and know they can hit a button and be talking with them while not interrupting the game they’re playing, I think they’ll understand the value of it
Man, I just put a bunch of hdmi cables in my wall, got them all neat and tidy and hung a big tv on my wall. Now I have to take it down and put in a new 2.1 hdmi cable
@joeyflannel my guess would be parents getting them for kids who are more casual and either don’t know about switch 2 or won’t care about it for a few years when it’s built up a bunch of exclusive games
Couldn’t find someone old enough to have played super Mario kart when it came out? Next time hit me up!
Honestly it’s easy to forget, but that was the first game to really extend the full Nintendo character set into a different genre and really open up the possibility of what Nintendo do could do, which they only further expanded in n64 with smash, golf, party, etc. mode-7 spinning can be a wonky but I think the game holds up well otherwise
Not my type of game, but I hope it’s good and people enjoy it. It’s definitely closer to the reason I fell in love with the LotR books as a kid than all those war battle games
I think these are dumb, but I did notice that the large download games for switch 1 sold for pretty cheap on the secondary market, so that is a silver lining for me.
I have a compulsion to collect these ps1 era rpgs on switch: suikoden, Grandia, FF7-9, legend of mana. I only had a N64 in that era, which I loved, but these games seemed endlessly cool and mature to me - I drooled at them from afar
Weirdly, when I play them now, the jankiness, and things that haven’t aged well only contribute to my nostalgia for that era of game
I'm actually pretty happy about this. I was on a bus the other day with my non-primary switch and I kept running into issues running my digital games. Now I can just load up those games ahead of time and run them without needing internet to check
Like a lot of people I have my tv mounted on my wall with some long hdmi cables hidden in the wall coming out to a cabinet. I’m hoping these will just work with the switch 2, it’ll be such a pain to run a new cable (the one that comes with the system won’t be long enough)
One of the best games I’ve ever played, I got completely lost in it. Like a sadistic, 1000x harder breath of the wild. The combat and customization is deeper but you can’t climb and exploration isnt quite as seamless
@SirLink I actually got it recently on Facebook marketplace for $200. No box but it’s in great shape. For people who like to keep and collect this stuff I think there’s a good opportunity coming as casual people dump their old stuff once they have a switch 2 in hand
I have amassed a few switches so I’ll probably sell 1 but keep my TotK OLED. The fact that switch 2 doesn’t have switch 1 hardware inside for perfect backwards compatibility makes me want to be sure to have the original, tho I’m sure for most folks the backwards compatibility will be good enough
Oleds sell for 200-250 used around me, so 175$ is actually not bad considering stores usually give much lower %s of value for trade in. The catch is how many people will actually get the 175 and how many will get lowballed
Shoot - I thought the whole game key card thing meant they were getting rid of code in a box releases. They key card thing doesn’t bother me too much as you can sell or lend the game, but code in a box seems made specifically to dupe people
I got one from Target! Walmart and Best Buy were both a bust. Fortunately I was watching a streamer who gave the tip to keep hitting the target place order button when there are errors and eventually my purchase went through.
I would’ve preferred showing up to Best Buy at midnight rather than get it delivered, but happy I’m getting one!
@joeyflannel that’s the main reason I’ll be watching - Fingers crossed. It’s been hard to stay excited about the release with so much uncertainty about when we can actually buy the thing

The sequel to my favorite switch game that doesn’t have the word Zelda in it, and I’m off for part of the day.
LETS GO!!!!!!

@larryisaman I only knew about the 3 upgrade because of a chance encounter with a YouTube video. It’s like 8 gb!

Definitely my favorite game I played on the switch that didn't have the word Zelda in the title.
My full excitement will not be reached until Silksong is on the eShop with a price and an order button - I'm surprised that I can't find it yet
