Had to vote 1/10 for me personally since the game's lack of accessibility options makes it a non starter for me. I can't use mouse controls and there is no reason the game can't have a normal control option.
Very scummy of Nintendo. Of course they have the legal right to do, frankly, most of the legal crap they do. But the point is that it's about picking your battles and knowing when, as a company, it's in your best interest to look away. Going after a charity isn't exactly a good look. And they sure do love to pick those battles.
Mega oof. And no confirmation of how it will actually run on Switch 2 is worrying. Games like this require 60fps in my opinion. They really should have canceled the Switch 1 version if it's that bad. Make a Switch 2 native version.
One of Nintendo's best games that's also a bit let down by its performance issues. A few of the boss fights drop below even 30fps at times, which seriously affected gameplay. Would be a 10/10 without those issues because it is otherwise incredible.
@PikminMarioKirby Going from 60 to 30fps is a lot more severe than what Zelda had as far as performance issues go. That's a huge and jarring drop. Especially for a 3D platformer, which Zelda is not. I think it is completely fair to give the game a 9/10 for that alone. Doesn't ruin the game obviously, which is why it is still a 9/10 game. And a reminder that a 9/10 is very very good indeed.
Seeing that an entire boss fight drops to 30fps for most of the battle is really concerning. Thankfully most of the game is 60fps, but that one issue is pretty serious in my opinion.
Calling it piss poor just because fixing it isn't easy is not really accurate. It's piss poor for modding and getting inside it. But the controller itself is astoundingly good in my opinion. And fixes all the issues I had with the Switch 1 pro controller (other than no analog triggers). And it has the best feeling analog sticks I've ever used.
It's considerably faster than Switch 1 was (feels maybe twice as fast). But still nowhere near as fast as my other game consoles. And my Steam Deck blazes past even my PS5 and Series X.
I can't speak for the Switch version, since I haven't played it. But the PS5 version of the game is basically unplayable because it forces you to use the d-pad or analog stick to play the game. And Breakout just does not work that way. It is mind boggling to me that they didn't add gyro controls, especially because this is literally the team that made Bit.Trip.Beat, which had gyro controls ages ago, which works brilliantly with these types of games.
As of now, the only playable version of Breakout Beyond is the PC version since it supports mouse controls and spinner controls. I have a spinner controller, and it is incredible with Breakout Beyond.
@Burning_Spear Higher resolution as in the Switch 2 can output 4K docked or 1080p handheld. It just makes for a cleaner output and more even pixel scaling.
And if it's anything like their recent Ridge Racer port, it will also feature VRR support so that it matches the original arcade version's refresh rate.
@BJQ1972 Same. The 1TB Lexar card has been working great so far on my end. That said, I do wish that larger cards were in the...cards. I used a 1TB card in my original Switch, and it wasn't enough for someone like me who is all digital.
@Rudolf Not true. Nintendo has control over Smash. Period. Also, HAL hasn't been involved in Smash in ages. Not since Melee I believe.
Sakurai is the director, but he is not the owner. That would be like saying Arc System Works is in charge of Dragon Ball FighterZ, when it is clearly Bandai Namco who has complete control of that game, not Arc System Works.
But anyway, this is the kind of thing that Smash players have been dealing with since Ultimate launched, and Nintendo never fixed it there, so don't expect them to fix it for Mario Kart either. I set my Smash preferences to 4 player free-for-alls with items turned on, but I end up in 1v1 matches without items half the time in that game. Which basically ruined the online for me. Its match making system is completely broken.
Huge nostalgia for me for the original Gex since I was there day one for it on the 3DO back in the day. It's not a great game, but it brings back the feels for me!
This is such a massive improvement over the previous game in the series. I genuinely did not like RMX, because the handling never felt good to play. But Fusion feels so much better. They definitely listened to the criticisms.
That said, the game is surprisingly blurry. It is not 4K even in the quality mode. There's also a ton of artifacting in the distance. Still a great looking game, but it feels very unlike a Shin'en game to me on the technical front.
@Danrenfroe2016 Nah, it's a 4K upload and the text, UI, and logos are all 4K. It's the in-game rendering that's low res in the trailer. Thankfully they've said that the game will have a day one update to add a 4K 60fps quality mode (hopefully sable 60fps). It's just really odd that they'd choose to present the game in this way for its first big trailer.
I'm surprised by how low res it looks in the trailer. It doesn't even look like it's hitting 1080p. Which is really surprising coming from Shin'en. I know there are different graphics modes, but I expected even the performance mode to render at a higher resolution than that.
He seriously needs to learn when to close his mouth and let the bad press dissipate. He's a classic self-destructive narcissist who loves to keep himself in the news cycle to his own detriment.
@MamaSymphonia It will very likely at least run at a locked 30fps on Switch 2 with the extra horsepower. But yeah, it'll need a patch to unlock that to 60fps.
Very strange to list these modes without explaining why you would choose the performance mode over the higher quality modes when they are all listed as 60fps. Sure, the quality mode might drops frames, but they don't mention that, which is weird. Make that clear for the user.
@larryisaman Honestly, a big part of the problem is that Steam allows you to review early access games. It's a feature that exists, and for better or worse, people are going to use it. I also genuinely believe that there are people out there who don't know or understand exactly what early access means. Never underestimate how uninformed some people are. Even when the explanation is right there in the description of the game.
More of this please! 120fps makes a huge difference in 2D games with a lot of lateral scrolling especially since it dramatically reduces the motion blur from modern TVs' sample-and-hold technology. I've hated it ever since I got my first OLED TV (had CRTs and plasma TVs before that).
I'll give the game a shot if only as a visual showpiece for the hardware at launch. I honestly never really liked Fast RMX much, because it absolutely pales in comparison to F-Zero. But at least Shin'en knows how to really show what gaming hardware can do from a technical standpoint. Just wish they were better game designers.
Thankfully we at least have a fan translated version on the SNES. And soon a Saturn version as well! But yeah, I'm shocked that Konami is still too afraid of the western market for this game. You'd think by now they'd realize that people outside of Japan would be interested in it.
These games are A+ RPGs. If you've never played them, you're in for a treat. Personally, I'm still good with my PS1 copies of the games, but these sound pretty solid overall if you don't have access to the PS1 versions.
It's not for me at all either. But in my case, it's more for health reasons due to a disability. Using a mouse absolutely Fs up my rheumatoid arthritis.

They need to just add an option for standard 3 lap races. Random actually being random isn't the problem.

Re: Former Nintendo Execs Fear We Might Be Waiting A While For A 3D Mario On Switch 2, Thanks To Donkey Kong
I'm fine with that. What's important is that we're getting a big new 3D platformer from the Odyssey team. Doesn't matter that it doesn't star Mario.

@gcunit Nope, not a settings issue since the text and logos in the trailer are clearly 4K. It's the in-game 3D rendering that is low res.
