I personally did not like this one. I loved Demon's Tilt (and Alien Crush and Devil's Crush on the TG-16). But this one was not it for me. I really dislike the gun mechanics, and it really just feels like there is too much going on. Like they didn't know when to pull back on the chaos going on.
Exclusively on my MiSTer these days. That's been my go–to for over 3 years now. Blows away the NSO experience. I use my MiSTer for all retro games now from Atari 2600 through the N64, PS1, and Saturn generations.
@Jeronan No they don't. Most games don't support every single language with voice acting. Hell, a ton of games don't even support english with voice acting. Something, anything, would be better than the complete silence the series is still known for. Even Banjo-Kazooie babbling would be better.
I don't think it's controversial to wish that this had voice acting. It should be a requirement for a franchise that sells this much. If Falcom can afford some voice acting in their games, Gamefreak should be voicing every single line of dialog in the entire game including every NPC.
Not counting the price, I'd give it an 8/10. Great games that don't play quite as good as the Wii versions due to gyro not working as well as pointer controls. Some nice updated textures, some not so nice.
Add the price into the mix though, and I'd give it a 5/10. Very low effort HD remasters for a super premium price. I expect remake levels of effort for that price.
Hard disagree. Sonic Racing's core handling model doesn't feel nearly as good as Mario Kart's for me. It just never feels good to play in comparison. You can really tell that Nintendo has been perfecting kart racing for over 30 years. Now that doesn't mean that I think Mario Kart World is perfect either mind you. It's not as good as Mario Kart 8. But it's still considerably better than Sonic Racing Crossworlds.
They should have just updated the original version then for 60fps and skipped this version on Switch 2. 30fps is an instant deal breaker for a platformer game in 2025.
I'll stick with the original system. Bought it day one and still have it. I have 8 games for it, and they're all great games. Anyone who tries to claim that there are no good games on the Virtual Boy is someone who never played one.
The problem is that in a metroidvania game, there is no way to know what is and isn't off the path when the game doesn't communicate it well to the player. This isn't something like Super Metroid where the game very clearly lets the player know "You shouldn't be here." via various means like Samus receiving major heat damage just by entering a room. Silksong is more like "Well this area seems really difficult, but is this the right way to go or not? I can't tell."
And I am still enjoying the game for the most part, but I don't love it (about 18 hours in right now). It just isn't as well designed as the major players in the genre in my opinion.
Haha, I actually got a soft lock in the game last night where an enemy attacked me, forcing me out of bounds. Needed to reset the game to get out of it.
Surprised by how poorly the game seems to be running in the trailer. I get that it's early, but I genuinely thought it was a Switch 1 version at first given the resolution and frame rate.
The first one was dreadful at launch, but was at least patched enough to be pretty solid in the end. Never should have launched in the state that it did though.
That said, their House of the Dead remakes have been abysmal...
Did they ever offer a control option for Night Striker that doesn't auto center you in the middle of the screen? The Saturn version has that option (and every home port of Space Harrier has it too), and it is way better for playing the game with a game controller. I specifically wanted this collection for Night Striker since it is a GOAT'd game. But without that option, it's not worth it when I can play the Saturn version instead.
Already beat it with the true ending before. No way am I doing that again with how long the game is. I also didn't love the game. I liked it, but it has some issues that prevented me from putting it anywhere near the top of my metroidvania tier list.
I'll stick with my Mayflash F700 Elite. Works great on Switch 2, and far superior buttons. I also need my stick! Leverless would destroy my hands, and just feels wrong.
@Bunkerneath As someone who doesn't even love FF7 Remake, I can assure you that it is absolutely nothing like Crisis Core. They are as different from each other as the original FF7 is from Crisis Core.
@NorrinRadd On my LG C3 OLED it only supports 120Hz if I force the console into 1080p resolution in the system settings, or I disable HDR. If you keep the resolution settings to "auto" or "4K" (as you should), it forces the console into 1440p resolution when a game uses 120hz, but then the TV only outputs at 60Hz (even though the game thinks it's 120Hz).
Basically it's broken. Other people have confirmed this as well. It is definitely not an issue with the TVs either. My PS5, Series X, and Steam Deck all work completely fine in 1440p 120Hz HDR on the TV. So it's a bug in the Switch 2 firmware that they need to fix.
First thing I did was change it to B for jump. I did that before even playing the game, because I already knew how the default controls were set up from previews.
Had to vote 1/10 for me personally since the game's lack of accessibility options makes it a non starter for me. I can't use mouse controls and there is no reason the game can't have a normal control option.
Very scummy of Nintendo. Of course they have the legal right to do, frankly, most of the legal crap they do. But the point is that it's about picking your battles and knowing when, as a company, it's in your best interest to look away. Going after a charity isn't exactly a good look. And they sure do love to pick those battles.
Mega oof. And no confirmation of how it will actually run on Switch 2 is worrying. Games like this require 60fps in my opinion. They really should have canceled the Switch 1 version if it's that bad. Make a Switch 2 native version.
One of Nintendo's best games that's also a bit let down by its performance issues. A few of the boss fights drop below even 30fps at times, which seriously affected gameplay. Would be a 10/10 without those issues because it is otherwise incredible.
@PikminMarioKirby Going from 60 to 30fps is a lot more severe than what Zelda had as far as performance issues go. That's a huge and jarring drop. Especially for a 3D platformer, which Zelda is not. I think it is completely fair to give the game a 9/10 for that alone. Doesn't ruin the game obviously, which is why it is still a 9/10 game. And a reminder that a 9/10 is very very good indeed.
Seeing that an entire boss fight drops to 30fps for most of the battle is really concerning. Thankfully most of the game is 60fps, but that one issue is pretty serious in my opinion.
Calling it piss poor just because fixing it isn't easy is not really accurate. It's piss poor for modding and getting inside it. But the controller itself is astoundingly good in my opinion. And fixes all the issues I had with the Switch 1 pro controller (other than no analog triggers). And it has the best feeling analog sticks I've ever used.
It's considerably faster than Switch 1 was (feels maybe twice as fast). But still nowhere near as fast as my other game consoles. And my Steam Deck blazes past even my PS5 and Series X.
I can't speak for the Switch version, since I haven't played it. But the PS5 version of the game is basically unplayable because it forces you to use the d-pad or analog stick to play the game. And Breakout just does not work that way. It is mind boggling to me that they didn't add gyro controls, especially because this is literally the team that made Bit.Trip.Beat, which had gyro controls ages ago, which works brilliantly with these types of games.
As of now, the only playable version of Breakout Beyond is the PC version since it supports mouse controls and spinner controls. I have a spinner controller, and it is incredible with Breakout Beyond.
@Burning_Spear Higher resolution as in the Switch 2 can output 4K docked or 1080p handheld. It just makes for a cleaner output and more even pixel scaling.
And if it's anything like their recent Ridge Racer port, it will also feature VRR support so that it matches the original arcade version's refresh rate.
@BJQ1972 Same. The 1TB Lexar card has been working great so far on my end. That said, I do wish that larger cards were in the...cards. I used a 1TB card in my original Switch, and it wasn't enough for someone like me who is all digital.
@Rudolf Not true. Nintendo has control over Smash. Period. Also, HAL hasn't been involved in Smash in ages. Not since Melee I believe.
Sakurai is the director, but he is not the owner. That would be like saying Arc System Works is in charge of Dragon Ball FighterZ, when it is clearly Bandai Namco who has complete control of that game, not Arc System Works.
But anyway, this is the kind of thing that Smash players have been dealing with since Ultimate launched, and Nintendo never fixed it there, so don't expect them to fix it for Mario Kart either. I set my Smash preferences to 4 player free-for-alls with items turned on, but I end up in 1v1 matches without items half the time in that game. Which basically ruined the online for me. Its match making system is completely broken.
