I really like this game on the casual level, but it's my least favorite Cave shmup regarding trying to master it for high scores. Its scoring system feels insanely convoluted.
Is this not going to have english voice acting? Seems odd considering the remaster of Nocturn had all new voice acting added to it with an english dub. And if they really want the mainline series to take off the way Persona has, they need to treat it with the same kind of budget.
Mega Man 2's box art is nearly just as bad, but it rarely ever gets talked about. Yes, the artwork is noticeably better drawn, but the concept is still the same. Old guy wearing tights and holding a gun.
@Specter_of-the_OLED That's the first I've heard of them actually changing the game speed (which is different from changing the frame rate). Can you point to a review or source that confirms that they didn't adjust the frame rate correctly?
The Switch version is a hard pass for me considering 30fps was specifically the reason why I hated the Wii version. I'll definitely get it on my PS5 though.
@Ralizah The PS5 version ran smoothly. It was just riddled with bugs. The performance itself was fine. There's no chance the Switch version will run as smoothly as the PS5 version did at launch. Unless the Switch version runs at native 4K 60fps. So yeah, no chance.
Regardless, the PS5 version was insanely busted. Literally unplayable at launch without pulling your hair out due to its bugs and UI problems.
Hopefully they iron out the game before launch this time. The PS5 version was stupid broken when it launched. Literally the most technically broken game I think I've ever played. Even hitting a soft lock within 30 minutes of starting it, and having to start over from scratch.
Nobody is surprised by this. If you're going to do something like this, you need to do it in complete secrecy until it's finished. The moment you show your work before it's done, it's basically a death sentence for the project.
No amount of changes to the lighting is going to fix the terrible looking character models outside of battle. They basically tried way too hard to mimic the look of the pixel art in 3D, which just doesn't work at all. What looks great as pixel art, doesn't always translate directly into 3D.
A shame that this review dropped after the introductory sale has already ended. I specifically didn't give this game a try because I couldn't find a single review for it anywhere on the net. Guess I just have to wait for the next sale.
Sonic and 30fps is always an instant nope for me. It was on the Wii, and it still is here. Same with Generations on PS360. It's embarrassing how Sega treats their own mascot.
Definitely passing on this if it has frame rate issues. I've been burned too many times lately with indie games that should run fine on Switch, but don't (Minoria, Ender Lilies, Star Renegades).
Pay to win games like this are always a hard pass for me. Just sell the game for a fixed price, and make the DLC cosmetic only. Pay to win is super toxic.
Did they fix the issue with the text speed for the auto advancing text when exploring? It was so fast in the demo, that I just stopped playing it. It was impossible for me to read.
Skyward Sword HD is by far the most improved. It being the only one to receive the bump to 60fps alone makes it take the top spot. That's not even mentioned the numerous other improvements.
Can they please please PLEASE fix the audio options bug? I have to set my audio option to home theater literally every time I boot up the game, because it never saves it. It's incredibly irritating.
Easily the best 3D Zelda game after Breath of the Wild in my opinion. The best combat, the best story, and some of the best dungeons in the series. People who missed the original are in for a real treat.
Prime Trilogy shouldn't have been included on this list. It's not its own game. It's a collection of three games that are already included in the same list. It's just silly to include it.
@Moroboshi876 Performance isn't great on PS4, but it's perfect on PS5 (4K 60fps). Their game engine is super poorly optimized, because it should run perfectly on PS4, but it doesn't. Only the PS5 (and PC obviously) is able to power through the poor optimization and run it perfectly.
My LG C8 OLED had severe screen burn from playing too much Smash Ultimate. Like really bad stuff. And that was with all of the TV's burn in prevention features in use. It also had some of the Switch home menu UI burned into it (like the eShop icon), and the Youtube logo from the Apple TV app.
It is most definitely a real problem with OLEDs. And it can happen easier than you think.
I've since replaced the TV with an LG CX OLED a couple months ago. No issues with that TV yet. But I expect it to happen eventually.
Yeah, the frame rate in the demo was complete dog ****. Thankfully with it being a turned based RPG, I can deal with it. But it still sucks that they can't even provide an option to cap the frame rate at 30fps.
@60frames-please There are definitely areas that run mostly smooth. But some areas (like the forest with a lot of water and the wizard enemies) that are pretty rough. Sometimes I'm not even sure what's causing it, because I'll notice a stretch where the game was dropping a lot of frames, and then I'll run back and retrace my steps only for it to run fine. It might have something to do with it loading in assets as you scroll through an area. And since those assets are loaded, running back through it doesn't cause the same issue (until you leave the zone and re-enter it).
The game is excellent so far. That said, the Switch version definitely has performance issues. It's dropping frames pretty often. It's not super bad (like Minoria was), but it's often enough that it bothers me.

Re: A New Kirby Game Just Leaked On Nintendo Japan's Website
If it's another 30fps Kirby game like Star Allies, then I'm going to pass this time.
Re: Review: Eastward - A Creative Zelda-Like Adventure With Absolutely Killer Art
Mutton chop girl looks so much better in the game than she does in that promo art. What were they thinking?
Re: Charming RPG Eastward Is Out Today On Switch, Here's The Launch Trailer
Love the in-game art style of this game. A shame the promotional art looks so odd. Like why does the girl have mutton chops?
Re: Review: Cruis'n Blast - An Arcade Racing Icon Returns In Spectacular Fashion
I'm having a Blast with the Raw Thrills this game provides!
In all seriousness, the game is really good so far. Probably the most fun I've had with an arcade racer since Burnout Revenge on the Xbox 360.

Re: Review: Sonic Colors Ultimate - The Best 3D Sonic Game Gets A Respectable Remaster
@anoyonmus Digital Foundry just showed that playing it on PS5 doesn't have any performance issues. Only on PS4 and PS4 Pro.
It does have some minor glitches, but no frame rate issues.
Re: Review: WarioWare: Get It Together! - More Magnificent Microgame Mayhem
Really looking forward to this one!

@anoyonmus Even when running on PS5?

Re: Soapbox: Spin-Offs Can Be A Way In Rather Than A Sell-Out
I've never heard of anyone saying that spinoffs are sellouts. That...doesn't even make sense.

It was silly to include Prime Trilogy as its own option. It just messed up the entire balance of the ranking.
Re: Soapbox: Playdate Sold Out In 20 Minutes - Is It Time For A New Nintendo Handheld?
I got my order in for the late 2021 batch. I love quirky handhelds like this.
As for Nintendo? The Switch is a handheld, so I think they should keep focusing on it.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Metroid Game?
Super Metroid is the best game in the series. Always has been since its release. After that, it's Metroid Prime 1 and Zero Mission.

Luna Nights should also be included. One of the best metroidvanias on Switch, and it was never reviewed here.
Re: We Could Have Had A New "Ultra-Realistic" F-Zero On Switch, But Nintendo Turned It Down
Yuck at the idea of an ultra realistic F-Zero. The crazy goofball comic book style characters are a big part of what makes F-Zero great.
Re: Review: Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights - A Metroidvania With A Stunning World To Discover
I'd argue that the frame rate dips are more than minor. But otherwise, I've been loving this game.
Re: Dark Fantasy Metroidvania Ender Lilies Launches On Switch Today
